JACK C. HUGHES
LTC Jack C. Hughes, 72, U.S. Army (Ret.) of 119 Jamerson Place, Baldwin, Ga., died Thursday, July 15, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus, Ga., with the Rev. James Moody and the Rev. Tom Hodges officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Hughes was born Nov. 29, 1931, in Barnesville, Ga., the son of the late Rona Knight Hughes and Paul Robert Hughes.
Survivors include his wife, Sibyl Brantley Hughes of Baldwin; two daughters, Susan Prestridge of Waldorf, Md., and Carol Jeter of Bonaire, Ga.; three sons, David M. Hughes of Buford, Ga., Mark S. Hughes of LaGrange, Ga., and Ben Brantley of Demorest, Ga.; a sister, Jean Cole of Richland, Ga.; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Level Grove Baptist Church in Conelia, Ga., or to Broadway Baptist Church in Maryville.
BESSIE MAE MASHBURN
Bessie Mae Mashburn, 95, died Thursday, July 15, 2004, at the Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala. She was formerly of Etowah. preceded in death by husband, Oscar Mashburn; son, Kenneth Mashburn; granddaughter, Anne Goddard; sisters Elsie Vineyard and Carrie Cathey; and brother, Cliff Jamerson.
Survivors: daughter, Martha Goddard of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sister, Edith Neely, of Cleveland; daughter-in-law, Pat Mashburn, of Etowah; grandchildren, Susan Goddard and Mark Goddard, both of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Dana Mashburn, of Etowah, and Donna Tallent, of Madisonville; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and special niece and caregiver, Nancy Vineyard.
Family and friends will assemble at Green Hill cemetery at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004, for graveside services. Minister Pat Wilson will officiate. There will be no formal visitation, but friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home. Bordwine Funeral Home of Etowah is in charge of arrangements. Clifford 'Cliff' Summitt, age 93, of Vonore, passed away 1:38 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2004, at Sweetwater Hospital. Member and Deacon of Lakeside Baptist Church.
Survivors: grandson and spouse, Danny and Rita Summitt; great-grandchildren, Miranda and Marissa Summitt, all of Greenback; brother, Cloyd Summitt, of Indiana; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Summitt, of Vonore; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by wife, Pauline Summitt; son, Paul Summitt; and granddaughter, Robin Summitt.

Christine Allen Headrick, age 71 of Maryville died Saturday, July 31 at U.T. Hospital. She was a member of Clover Hill Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nikki and David Long of Maryville; and son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Gean Ann Sing of Morristown; granddaughters, Whitney Coppinger of Maryville, and Saber Coppinger of Maryville; great-grandson, Caleb Coppinger; and honorary grandson, Dexter Prichet; step son and step daughter- in-law, Jon and Wanda Headrick; step daughters and step sons-in-law, Jana and Neal Barnes, Marta and Kenny Wingler, Rena and Larry Reeve; and several step-grand and great-grandchildren; sisters, Rachel Price, Helen Merritt, Charlene Menard, Aurelia Gaddis, Vivan and Marion Wise; and brother, Morris and Grace Allen. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Clover Hill Presbyterian Church cemetery with Rev. Tom Gilliland officiating. George was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by parents, Issac and Virgie Miller Lane; brothers, Roy and Ralph Lane; daughters, Betty and Patricia; grandchildren, Travis Nevin and Timothy Neil Lane. Mrs. Byerley was the wife of the late Paul Vernon Byerley, a longtime printer at the Knoxville News Sentinel and Knoxville Journal. preceded in death by son: William Howard Byerley.
