Christine Scarbrough, age 52 of Alcoa died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a member of Dotson Memorial Baptist Church. preceded in death by: father, Ralph Keller; grandmothers, Myrtle Amburn and Edith Myers; and uncle, R.F. Russell. REX WHITEHEAD
Rex Whitehead age 49 of Maryville passed away Thursday, June 24, 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vern and Dorothy Whitehead, Brother, Gene Whitehead. Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Debbie Whitehead, Son, Josh Whitehead, Daughter and Fiancé, Christy Whitehead and Michael Kidd, Grandson, Tristin Whitehead, Brothers and Sisters-in-laws: Bobby and Anita Whitehead, George and Gail Whitehead, Sister and Brother-in-law, Mildred and Fred Gibson, and Sister, Shirley Lutterell, Mother-in-law, Mary Burris, Brothers-in-law, Howard and James Murr, Sisters-in-law, Marie Murr and Jamie Parker, several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 P.M. Monday, June 28, 2004 at Memorial Funeral Home in Maryville with Rev. Rhyne Hearon officiating. The family will receive friends between 6-7 P.M. MICHAEL DAVID LANKFORD
Michael David Lankford, age 41 of Adrian, MI, passed away Saturday, July 10, 2004, in Michigan. He was born in Alcoa, graduated from Alcoa High School, a former active member of First Baptist Church of Alcoa and was very active in the community. He was currently a member of a Baptist Church in Adrian.
He was an outstanding Christian man who loved the Lord and his family and witnessed daily to all he came in contact with by the life he lived.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Lankford of Adrian, MI; father and mother, Bobby and Shirley Constantine Lankford of Athens, GA; brothers, Gregory Lankford and wife Lisa of Maryville, Stacy Lankford and wife Diana of Woodstock, GA; uncles, Darrell Lankford and wife Joan of Friendsville, Tom Constantine and wife Nancy of Temple, TX; aunt, Betty Henry of Knoxville; numerous cousins; close friend and mentor, Bob Stark of Marietta, GA.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment service.

ALICE SMITH TRUNDLE
Alice Smith Trundle died Friday, July 9, 2004, at Nashville's Health Center at Richland Place from causes incident to age. She was born January 11, 1914, on the family farm in Monroe/Loudon Counties that is now partly Rarity Bay and Tellico Lake. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs. James Garland (Maude McCollum) Smith. Alice graduated from Loudon High School in 1932 and moved to Maryville with her family during the Great Depression.
She worked at Bell Telephone Company before marrying W. Scott Trundle on April 24, 1937. He worked for 41 years at ALCOA and was a member of the Blount County Quarterly Court before dying in 1965. After her husband's death, she worked at Proffitts in the retail buyer department until retiring at age 70. Alice was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. For over six decades she maintained close friendships with nine other Blount County women including Frances Allen, Margaret Grubbs, Mary Clark and Virginia Broyles through a monthly bridge club. Frances Everett of Maryville, has been a faithful friend since the families were stationed in Chicago by ALCOA during World War II. Alice Trundle loved to cook and sew. In later years she wrote poetry. Most of all, she loved children.
She is survived by her children, Scott Trundle (Liz) of Ogden, Utah and Ginger Manley (John) of Nashville; and siblings, Helen Crownover of Tampa, Fla., Charles Smith (Frances) of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Katherine Maloney (W.A.) of Telford. Her younger brother, James G. Smith, V, died in Kaneoh, Hawaii, on May 23 of this year. She had four grandchildren, Elizabeth Manley DeWerth (Scot), Steve Trundle (Kim), Jon Manley and Allison Trundle Strachan (Scott); and five great-grandchildren, Grant Manley, Alexander and Brendan DeWerth, and Claire and Scottie Trundle.
A private interment will be held at Grandview Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 13, at New Providence Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Musick officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church following the memorial service.

Fannie Lee Alexander Wells "Granny White, " White, age 95, formerly of Tomassee Drive in South Knoxville, died Monday, July 12, 2004. Granny was born in Claiborne County, TN on October 21, 1908. She was a long time member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. For the past three years she has been a resident of Asbury Place and the family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff for their loving care. preceded in death by parents, John Mitchell and Nora Ausmus Alexander; step-mother, Cora Rogers Alexander; husbands, Herman Wells and A.D. White, Sr.; brother, Bill Alexander; sisters, Barbara Turner, Alida Alexander; children, Lorraine Chambers, Mitchell Wells, A. Mary was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and moved suddenly on July 8, 2004. She is now residing in her heavenly home, which has been under construction for 77 years. Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Sallie Prather, and now leaves to celebrate her life, 5 devoted daughters, Shirley (Johnny) Gay, Linda (Daniel) Provost of Houston, T, Gloria Williams of Cleveland, OH, Gaynell (Jimmy) Ferguson of Alcoa and Diane Norman of Atlanta, GA. She leaves 2 sisters, Genell Person of Dayton, OH, and Peggy (John) Walden of Alcoa, TN; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie Lemmons, Joel Scott, Shannon Zachery, Tana Williams, and Nicole Taylor; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 aunts, Mary Lee Jackson of Maryville, TN, and Gladys Scandrick of Dayton, OH. She also had an extensive family which included 4 foster children, Mary Scott, Jackie and Angie Moffett, and Howard Norman; and 3 foster grandchildren, Randall Cobb, Michael Cobb, and Kevin Jackson; several cousins, especially Henry Jackson, and Willene Thompson; 1 niece; and 5 nephews. Her special friends included Lewis Buchanan, Anna Garner, Sonja and Carl Armstrong, Bryan Garner, Martha Hudson, Jerry and Rosemary Hall, Madge Earls, Jackie Hill, Dorothy Brown, Watt Street neighbors, The Bethel Baptist Church family and the Hall community.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 15, 2004, at 3:00 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, Alcoa with Rev. Ralph Miller, Jr. officiating and Rev. Richard Brown, Jr. delivering the eulogy. FINGER, CHARLES RALPH 'CHUCK, ' JR., 45, Athens, died June 26, 2004. Gardner Boyd Lynn, age 81, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He attended Meadow Branch Missionary Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II. preceded in death by wife, Wanda Beets Lynn and granddaughter, Sinda Whitehead Harmon. Survivors include sons, Ronald Lynn and Christopher Lynn, and wife, Tammy all of Maryville; daughters, Sharon Whitehead and husband, John, Delta Kirkland and husband, Lynn all of Tallassee; grandchildren, Cregg Lynn, Angie Myers, Doyle Stephens, Tanya Extine, Penny Stinnett, Grover Kirkland and Kimberly Teffeteller; great-grandchildren, Ashley Lynn, Cody Myers, Wesley Myers, Joey Stephens, Elizabeth Stephens, Kindra Extine, Sofia Harmon and Charlsey Tucker; sisters, Ethel Waldrop of Georgia and Beatrice Grant of North Carolina; several nieces and nephews. Wilma J. McConnell, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Shannondale Health Care Center, Knoxville. She was a retired Real Estate Agent and member of Alcoa First United Methodist Church. preceded in death by her husband, James E. McConnell, and parents, William Burton and Anna Johnston Jenkins.
Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Rick Young of Tellico Village; grandson, Justin Young of Ontario, California; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Bobbie Jenkins of Alcoa and T.M. and Evelyn Jenkins of Maryville.

Waltsie Ethel Tarbett, age 99, of Maryville, born July 19, 1904, died Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Asbury Place of Maryville. Mrs. Tarbett moved from Union County in 1935, and was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Shirley Franklin 'S.F.' Tarbett; her parents, Cornie and Eli Kivette; nine siblings; a son, Gene Porter Tarbett; a daughter, Mae Ruth Dixon; grandsons, Roger Dale Arwood, Franklin Dale Tarbett and Ronny Joe Tarbett; and sons-in-law, Charles Rowland and Daniel Murphy. She was a loving mother and homemaker, a devout Christian and member of Madison Avenue Baptist Church. Her hobbies were her flower gardens, crafts and painting. She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Betty and Rev. David Arwood Jr.; daughter, Eutella Rowland Murphy; daughter-in-law, Melba Tarbett; grandsons and wives, Marvin and Karen Dixon, Kenny and Kristy Dixon, Jim and Cheryl Blatt, Glen and Anita Tarbett, Doug Tarbett, Ron Tarbett, Gary and Dinah Rowland; granddaughters and husbands, Dreva and Kenneth McKee, Ilene Harlan, Lisa Tarbett, Wanda McMillan, Angelia and Dave Gaines, Barbara and David Nave, and Sheila Schlosshan; 29 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; special friend, Betty Billeter; a host of friends and loved ones; and her church family. MARY `MAGGIE' THOMAS
Mary 'Maggie' Thomas, age 78, of Maryville, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Blount Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Thomas; parents, Paul and Molly Everett; son, Ronald P. Thomas; grandson, Brandon Shane Thomas; brother, James Everett; and sister, Ruth Potter.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, George and Sandra P. Thomas; granddaughter, Stacey Collette Eggers and her husband Troy; sister-in-law, Georgia M. Thomas, all of Maryville; several nieces and nephews; special friends Shirley and Herbert Rogers.
Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Copeland officiating. Family and friends will meet 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment service.

HELEN GIFFEN DICKSON
Helen Giffen Dickson, age 88, died at Shannondale Health Care Center on July 15, 2004. She was born on March 22, 1916, in Moundsville, West Virginia. She moved to Knoxville in 1918 when her father, Dr. James Kelly Giffen, became President of Knoxville College and she moved to Maryville when he became Professor of Old Testament at Maryville College. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1933 and from the University of Tennessee in 1937. She had a long teaching career in the Knoxville, Knox County, and Blount County School Systems, primarily at Eagleton Village School in Blount County. She served in the American Red Cross during World War II. She had a very deep Christian faith. She joined New Providence Presbyterian Church in Maryville in 1936 where she taught in the Church school. One of her pre-school pupils was Lamar Alexander. Her husband, Reps Jones Dickson, preceded her in death in 1957. He was the golf pro at Green Meadows Golf Club. Ann Baker Furrow was among the distinguished golfers whom he coached.
Survivors include her son, Richard M. Dickson of Auburn, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Robert K. Dickson and Melinda Dickson of Farragut; granddaughters, Margaret Dickson and Rachel Dickson; brother, Lowell Giffen of Knoxville.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at New Providence Presbyterian Church with Rev. Steve Musick officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church following the service.
