Victor Andrew Emert, age 79, died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at St. Mary's Holston Health Care. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory. preceded in death by father, Andrew Jackson Emert; mother, Edna Chaney Baird; wife, Nancy Ingram Emert; and brother, Jack Emert. Survived by four children, sons and daughter-in-law, Steven Emert and wife Linda of Chattanooga, TN, Daniel Emert and Simone Emert of New Orleans, LA; daughters and sons-in-law, Rebecca Burls and husband Charles, and Sara Davis and husband Bryan; brother and sister-in-law, William Baird and wife Alice, all of Knoxville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Family and friends will meet 2:45 p.m. Friday at Highland West cemetery for a 3:00 p.m. graveside service with Rev. Bob Burch officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 4708 Papermill Drive, Knoxville, TN 37909. Family will receive friends between 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friday. Arrangements made by Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.

BURLEY W. HOWELL
Burley W. Howell, age 95 of Maryville, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Colonial Hills Healthcare Center. He was a member and deacon of Piney Level Baptist Church; member of New Providence Lodge #128 F.&A.M.; member of ALCOA's 25-Year Club. preceded in death by: wife, Sarah Maude Howell; father, David Howell; mother and step-father, Elizabeth and Lee Parker; granddaughter, Valerie Tunnell; sisters, Margaret Cook and Ruth Nuchols; brothers, Lawrence and Harris Parker. Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, William Robert and Connie Howell of Maryville; daughters and sons-in-law, Mildred and Winfred (Jack) Medlin of Maryville, Barbara and Kyle Conway of Maryville, Arelene and Lou Alonza of Marietta, GA and Juanita and Bill Roberson of Knoxville; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jennie Shields and Lela Mae England both of Maryville and Elizabeth Graves of Maryland; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 4, 2004 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. George Macht officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call at their convenience after 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Smith Mortuary. JOHN E. JOHNSON
John E. Johnson, age 59 of Knoxville, TN died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital. He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force during Vietnam. preceded in death by: father, William Johnson Sr., mother and stepfather, Eula Williamson and Eli; brother, William Johnson Jr. Survivors include: sons, Jeremiah Johnson and friend Leslie Valentine of Knoxville and Steve Johnson of Knoxville; daughter, Tara Johnson of Covington, KY; grandson, Darryl Eli Johnson; stepmother, Mary Johnson of Knoxville; brothers, Joe Johnson, Claude Johnson, Robert Johnson, Jeff Johnson, Daniel Johnson, Russell Williamson all of KY; sisters, Janice Johnson, Louie Bright and Cheryl Beeler all of TN, Paulette Phelps of Alexandria, KY, Vivian Burkhardt of Colorado, and Mary Williamson of Alabama. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 3, 2004 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Claude Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery. CHRISTOPHER KENNETH MCDOWELL
Christopher Kenneth McDowell, church musician and organist, passed June 2, 2004. He leaves wife, Vickie Baker McDowell; son, Paul; and daughter, Meredith; parents are Kenneth and Betty McDowell; brother, Jeff McDowell; and sister, Melisa Gingrich; in-laws are Arthur and Anna Mae Baker. There will be a private burial with a celebration of Chris's life to take place on Sunday, June 6 at 4:00 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Airport Rd., Gatlinburg. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Chris's memory to the organ fund at Our Savior Lutheran Church, PO Box 511, Gatlinburg TN 37738. Memorial Funeral Home of Maryville in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM JOSEPH PAPP
William Joseph Papp, age 76, from Knoxville, passed away Tuesday morning, June 1, 2004 at Ft. Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was a retired veteran and Master Sergeant of the United States Air Force. Mr. Papp was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamara Papp and his parents, Anton and Mary Papp. He is survived by his wife, Betty Simpson Papp; sons, Tony Papp of Oklahoma, Martin Papp of Oklahoma, and Timothy Papp of Oklahoma; stepchildren, Jennifer Ballew of Knoxville, Pamela Matthews of Greeneville, Cynthia Emert of Knoxville, Alan Ballew of Maryland, and Jeffrey Ballew of Florida; several grandchildren; sister Betty Antonakis of Maryville; brother-in-law, Robert E. Simpson of Knoxville; niece, Mary and husband Bobby King of Knoxville, Lori Wilkerson of Lenoir City, and Susan Simpson of Knoxville; nephew, Bobby Simpson of Knoxville; several other nieces and nephews; and several grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Family and friends will meet at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2004 at the Tennessee Veteran's cemetery in Knoxville for the graveside service and interment with military honors, Rev. Gene Gann officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be made to The American Heart Association. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

MARGARET PRICE
Margaret Price, age 73, of Maryville, died Friday, May 28, 2004 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of Victory Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. 'Doc' Price; daughter, Jennifer Hill; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cox; sister, Dorothy Ward.
Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Jeff Clayton and Sandra Price of Bolivia; son, John Clinton Price of Kuwait; son-in-law, Don Hill of Maryville; grandchildren, Taylor Price, Jordan Price, Wyatt Price, Shane Price, Heather Price, Shelly Price, Clayton Pearlstein, and Aaron Pearlstein.
Ms. Price was cremated. A memorial service will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004 at Victory Baptist Church, 1025 Montvale Road, Maryville, with the Rev. Rob Hoffman, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victory Baptist Youth Missions Fund. Arrangements by Dotson Funeral Home, Wildwood. NAOMI ELIZABETH `BETTY' ROMESBURG
Mrs. Naomi Elizabeth 'Betty' Romesburg, 69 of 3277 Leonard Rd. died Tuesday, June 1, 2004 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Butler, TN October 12, 1934 a daughter of the late Simon P. Bradley and Carrie C. Morley Bradley. She retired in 1996 from Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County. She was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. Mrs. Romesburg was married January 10, 1953 to Glenn D. Romesburg. She was preceded in death by one sister, Walsie Willens.
Surviving her husband of 51 years Glenn D. Romesburg, Sr. of the home; two daughters, Karen D. Perdue of Lexington and Bonnie B. Flinchum and husband Tim of East Bend; two sons, Glenn D. Romesburg, Jr. and wife Janette of Winston-Salem and Raymond E. Romesburg and wife Karen of Maryville, TN; eight grandchildren, Michelle and Megan Romesburg, James and Anna Inez Fuchs, Robert Flinchum, Emily, Carrie Gail and Samuel Ray Romesburg; two great-grandchildren, Olevia Ann and Caleb Noah Romesburg; one sister, Delores Romesburg and husband David of Winston-Salem; four brothers, Floyd Bradley of Louisiana, Jack Bradley and Bill Bradley of Tennessee and Colin Bradley of Georgia.
A funeral will be held Friday, June 4, 2004 at 2 p.m. in Cornerstone Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Martin and Chaplain Fred Moretz. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The body will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Wallburg Chapel until placed in the church one hour before the service. The family will be at the funeral home Thursday from 6 until 8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to Cornerstone Baptist Church Building Fund, 4507 Thomasville Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

JONES, SAMUEL HOWARD, 81, Andrews, N.C., died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the Clay County Care Center in Hayesville, N.C. He retired as a heavy equipment operator.
Survivors: wife, Joyce Walker Jones; daughter, Beryl Turner of Johns Island, S.C.; brothers, Joseph Jones of Tulsa, Okla., Shirley Edward 'Buster' Jones of Nashville; sisters, Margaret Mahood, Edna Rubio, Ada Kizer, all of Knoxville, Nellie Al Saigh, of Falls Creek, Va., and Nancy Westbrook of Nashville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Townson Rose Chapel in Andrews, N.C. Military graveside rites and burial was in the Peachtree Memorial Baptist Church cemetery. The family received friends Monday at the Townson Rose Chapel.

UNDERWOOD, EPHRAIM DWIGHT, 79, Knoxville, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Baptist Hospital. He was retired from Robert Shaw Fulton.
Survivors: wife, Betty Underwood; sons, Eric Underwood of Pittsburgh, Brand Underwood of Nashville; daughter, Ann McCarter of Sevierville; stepdaughter, Claudette Rayle of Florida; four grandchildren; brother, Bill Underwood.
Funeral Service will be at 7 p.m. today at Lyons Creek Baptist Church in Strawberry Plains. Family and friends will assemble at 11 a.m. Friday at Trentville cemetery in Strawberry Plains. Family will receive friends 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Lyons Creek Baptist Church. Arrangements by Smith Mortuary.

MURRELL, BEATRICE, 79, Rockford, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at the family home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Smith Mortuary.

TRACY ALLEN CUPP
Tracy Allen Cupp, age 41 of Maryville passed away, Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at the family home. He was preceded in death by mother, Sarah Cupp. Survived by his wife, Starla Horne Cupp; father, James Allen Cupp of Maryville; several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Family and friends will meet at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 12, 2004 at Magnolia cemetery for the graveside service and interment. Family and friends may call at their convenience from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Miller Funeral Home, Maryville.

DENNIE HALEN DAVIS
Dennie Halen Davis, 89 passed away on June 8, 2004, at Asbury Place in Maryville, Tennessee. He was born on November 22, 1914, in Tazewell, TN. He was the son of Charlie H. and Martha Bolton Davis of the Little Sycamore Community of Claiborne County. Halen was retired from the Aluminum Company of American after forty years of employment. During his employment at Alcoa he worked as a crane operator at the South Plant, Alcoa, Tennessee. He was a member of the Alcoa Twenty-five Year Club and had been an active member of The United Steelworkers Local 309 having served the union as an elected official for several years. Immediate family survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Winston H. (Sid) and Jeanette Payne Davis of Maryville, TN. Other family members include: sister-in-law, Marie Davis of Oak Ridge, TN; sister-in-law, Mrs. Brice Philpot of Oak Ridge; nieces and nephews include: James D. (Buzz) Reed of Chattanooga, TN, Elizabeth Davis Lovingood of Oak Ridge, Joy Philpot of Oak Ridge, Halen Philpot of Oak Ridge, Linda Philpot Morrison of Oak Ridge, Julie Seals Williams of Maryville, and Shannon Seals Warren of Alcoa, TN. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2004 at Smith Mortuary followed by the funeral service. Reverend Bob Dalton, Associate Pastor of Monte Vista Baptist Church will deliver the funeral service. Entombment will be held following the funeral service at Grandview Mausoleum. LESTER E. ENDSLEY
Lester E. Endsley, age 84 of Chandler, TX, formerly of Blount County, passed away Wednesday morning, June 9, 2004, in TX.
Survivors include his wife, Romayne of the home; two sons; three daughters; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Clara Rathbone and Gladys McKinsey of Maryville, Barbara Rusterholz of Indianapolis, IN; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services and burial will be Saturday, June 12 in Chandler, TX.

IVA TIPTON PHELPS
Iva Tipton Phelps, age 94 of Maryville, a descendent of the Tipton, Lawson and Myers families of Cades Cove, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Colonial Hills Nursing Home. She was born October 8, 1909 to John Martin and Martha Josephine Lawson Tipton and was a member of Middlesettlements United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Phelps; sisters, Carrie Miller and Clemmie Gibson; brothers, Claude Tipton and Clyde Tipton.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Jo and John Hitch of Louisville; grandson and wife, Mike and Lesa Hitch of Louisville; grandchildren, Jay Hitch of Louisville, April Wheeler of Knoxville and Brandi Costner of Loudon; sister-in-law, Georgie Colvin of Florida; nephews and niece, Lloyd Gibson of Maryville, Ralph Gibson of Knoxville, Jeanne and Jimmy Mason of Knoxville; 11 other special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Friday in McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Black officiating. Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment service.
The family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Friday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home. Family and friends may also call at their convenience at the home of Barbara and John Hitch, 4050 Lowes Ferry Road, Louisville, TN 37777.
