Kate B. Williams, age 72, 129 Harry Buckles Road, Elizabethton, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday afternoon, April 6, 2004, following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Abbagail Nave Buckles. Mrs. Williams was a 1948 graduate of Unaka High School. She and her husband Jones Williams were married
on April 7, 1950 and were married
for a total of fifty-four years. She was a member of the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church, the WMU of Caldwell Springs Baptist and had taught Sunday School in her church for more than 40 years. She was a Floral Designer and was retired as the former co-owner and operator of City Floral Shop. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Ella and Vera Buckles, four brothers: Brown, Thomas, Eston and Harry Buckles. She is survived by her husband; Jones Williams of the VA Nursing Home, Johnson City, one son and daughter-in-law, Michael K and Tonie Berry Williams of Elizabethton, two daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Garry Holly and Julie and Bill Tetrick, all of Elizabethton, a very special niece, Gail Buckles of Elizabethton, one brother, J N Buckles of Johnson City, seven grandchildren; Jessica Storie, Christen Williams both of Elizabethton, Tonya Hardy of Johnson City, Erica Holly of Elizabethton, Ronda Greaves of Denville, NJ, Ashley Tetrick and Jared Tetrick both of Elizabethton, one great grandchild, McKenzie Storie of Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews also survive The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 9, at Caldwell Springs Baptist Church with Mr. Michael Williams, Dr. William Duncan and Rev. Willie Lunceford officiating. Music will be under the direction of Michael Williams, Peggy Oliver, Tina Lunceford and Kenny Storie. Interment will follow the funeral service at Buckles Cemetery. PATRICK LEE BAIRD Patrick Lee Baird, age 54, 194 Old Charity Hill Road, Elizabethton died Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he is the son of Ronda and Ruby Baird, Elizabethton. He was of the baptist faith. He was a retired employee of American Water Heater. He was preceded in death by his only child, Patrick Lee Baird, Jr. Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife, Henrietta Drakeford Baird, of the home, one brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Wanda Baird, Elizabethton, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Patricia Gail and Rick Kyte, Elizabethton, Sue Ann and Roger, Whitson, Elizabethton, two grandchildren, Jessica Baird, Patrick Lee Barnett, III, both of Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews also survive. Mack H. Stewart, age 80, 140 Soap Stone Hollow Rd, Butler died Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at the James H. Quillen Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, TN following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Ina Shaw Stewart. Mr. Stewart was a retired construction worker and was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He had a love for music and played guitar In addition to his parents, Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by one son, Tom Stewart, two sisters and one brother. Survivors are his wife Frances Whaley Stewart of the home, one son, Terry Stewart of the home, one daughter and son-in-law, Karen Maxine and Robert Woody of Newland, NC, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, Sue Combs of Jonesborough, Margaret Way and Pauline Stewart, both of Johnson City, two brothers, James Stewart of Johnson City and Franklin Stewart of Kingsport. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Loyd and Lura Bell Jones Harrison. He attended Highpoint Baptist Church. He was a retired butcher. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dennis Harold Harrison and Ronnie Dean Harrison. Bronce Terry “Rich” Richesin, age 85, 430 East H. Street, Elizabethton passed away Monday, April 5, 2004 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. He was a native of Sweetwater, TN, but had lived in Maryville, TN for 30 years and had lived in Elizabethton for the past 30 years. He was the son of the late Charlie and Dicie Terry Richesin. He was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church, Elizabethton. He was a retired employee of T.V.A. after 26 years of service. Mr. Richesin was a member and 32 degree Mason with Rockford Masonic Lodge No. 469 F & AM, Rockford, TN, a member of Jericho Shrine Temple and a Scottish Rite Mason of Knoxville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II.. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four brothers, Herman Richesin, Elroy Richesin, Emmett Richesin and Fred Richesin. FLORENCE D. CARDWELL Florence D. Cardwell, age 91, 503 C West “F” Street, Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at her home late Thursday afternoon, March 11, 2004. A native of Kentucky, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Cardwell, a daughter, Willa Florence Crowe, January 7, 2004 and a grandson, Michael Crowe. Mrs. Cardwell was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton. She and her late husband were owners of Cardwell’s Market for over forty years. HAZEL I. TESTER Hazel I. Tester, age 87, formerly of 130 Miller Ave., Johnson City, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness. A native of Watauga County, NC, she had lived in Carter County for the last 50 years. She was the daughter of the late William Arthur and Sarah Marilla South Cannon. She was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. She coordinated the Shut-in visitation and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a graduate of East Tennessee State Teachers College and was a former school teacher in Johnson County. She received her A.D. degree at Lees-Mcrae College and was a retired L.P.N. Surgical Nurse from Johnson City Memorial Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband Claude Davis Tester, July 23, 2001, three brothers and four sisters. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Elizabeth “Liz” Tester Davis and Rev.
