HERBERT H. DUGGER Herbert H. Dugger, age 75, 139 Schoolhouse Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, December 11, 2003 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Avery County, NC, he was the son of the late Monroe and Matilda Clawson Dugger. He was of the Baptist faith. He was retired from the U.S. Postal service and from the U.S. Navy. He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II and Korea. Mr. Dugger was a member of Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Dugger, second wife, Lillian Byrd Dugger, two sons, Richard Dugger, Gary Dugger, two sisters, and two brothers. Survivors include one son, Thomas Dugger, Los Angeles, CA, one daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Preciado, San Pedro, CA, three grandchildren, Abrahim Benavides, Jennifer Dugger, Elyse Doerflinger, one great granddaughter, one brother and sister-in-law, Leroy and Phyllis Dugger, Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Monday, December 15, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Dallas Gregg officiating. Music will be under the direction of Brenda Williams. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Military honors to be accorded by Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be Darrin Laws, Danny Williams, Robert Greer, Mike Hicks, Jody Blevins, and John Bryant. Honorary pallbearers will be Craig Baird, Willie Gleeton, Chris Barb, Keith Allen, Phillip Suess, Jessie McMahan, Steve Preciado, Paul Lewis, Abram Benavides, Tyler Price, Tristan Cousby, and Tanner Barb. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, to go in procession to the cemetery. LESTER “LES” BARNETT Lester “Les” Barnett, age 65, 299 Heaton Creek Road, Roan Mountain died Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Charles A. Cannon Memorial Hospital, Linville, NC, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County he was the son of the late Zeb and Blanche Johnson Barnett. He was of the Christian faith. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Capt. Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Mr. Barnett was a U.S. Navy and U.S. Army veteran. Survivors include eight children, Chynna Barnett, Sari Barnett, Mark Barnett, all of the home, Allen Barnett, Johnson City, Shawnarei Chittum, Gray, Manarka Foster, Erwin, Ladonna Carnett, Blountville, Todd Barnett, Johnson City, 4 grandchildren also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain with Pastor Kurt Styron officiating. Music will be under the direction of Charlotte Smith, organist. Interment will follow the funeral service at Johnson Roanview Cemetery, Roan Mountain. Military honors to be accorded by Capt. Lynn H. Junie Winters, age 80, of 183 Willard Perkins Road, Roan Mountain, died Saturday, November 15, 2003 at Cannon Memorial Hospital, Linville, NC, following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Bertha Oaks Palmer. Mrs. Winters was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Winters; Sister, Edell McClain; Brothers, Bruce Palmer and Jim Palmer, and Gus Palmer; Half- Brothers, Ona Lee Johnson, Lawrence Palmer, and Gus Palmer. Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Connie Winters, Roan Mountain, and Allen Winters, Spruce Pine, NC; two sisters, Florence Miller, Roan Mountain, and Della Mae Turbyfield, Cranberry, NC; One grandson, Brandon Winters, Roan Mountain, four granddaughters, Heather Perry, Roan Mountain, Hollie Uthlaut, Sierra Vista, Arizona, Kimberly Winters and Jennifer Winters, both of Roan Mountain; two great grandchildren, Alexis and Logan Winters, Several nieces and nephews also survive. LOIS CANNON Lois Cannon, age 66, 1017 DeJarnette Street, Elizabethton went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 11,2003 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel William and Berta Mae Tapp Edwards. She was a member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church. Mrs. Cannon was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband, Howard Cannon, of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Laura Cannon, Byron, GA, one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mark Street, Johnson City, two grandaughters and spouses, Laurie and Michael Bradshaw, Kellie and Michael Sumner, all of GA, one grandson, Charlie Cannon, GA, one sister, Joann Pierce, Johnson City, three brothers, Leonard Edwards, Johnson City, Glenn Edwards, NC, Leon Edwards, Johnson City, several nieces and nephews also survive. Ruth Greene Blevins, age 96, Hermitage Health Center, formerly of 210 S. Main Street, Elizabethton died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Avery County, NC, she was the daughter of the late William Augustus and Clara Jones Greene. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton. She was a homemaker and skilled seamstress. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Houston Blevins, two infant children, and two sons-in-law, Rev. Thomas B. Welch and Wayne Campbell. Survivors include four daughters and one son-in-law, Audrey Welch, Columbia, SC, Mildred Rash, Winston-Salem, NC, Joyce and N.T. Campbell, Chattanooga, TN, Joan Campbell, Elizabethton, one son, Wayne Houston Blevins, Blountville, TN, fourteen grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Coy and Mamie Hyder Nave. She was of the Christian faith. She was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Coy Nave, Jr., and a sister, Pansy Taylor. Survivors include her husband, Jack R. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Lockett G. and Maggie Mae Campbell Buckles. She was preceded in death by a son, Fred Arnold O’Quinn, Jr. and a sister, Ellean Pendley. Ms. Lyons was a homemaker and a sitter with the elderly. She was a member of Moore’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law: Julie D. and Mark Taylor, Johnson City and Margaret Kearns, Elizabethton; one son, Billy Jack Lyons, Elizabethton; one sister, Emma Christine Mann, Highland, CA; two brothers, F.D. Buckles, Atwater, CA and Ralph Buckles, Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Dawn Mae Hunter, GA; friend, Pauline McKinney, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews also survive. A native of Carter County, she is the daughter Georgia Mae Waycaster Edwards, Ivy Hall Nursing Home, Elizabethton and the late Hubert Edwards. She was a member of Hopson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She was a former employee of Carter County School System. She was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ragsdale. Survivors in addition to her mother, include two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Lassie Holtsclaw, Roan Mountain, Cletis and Joy Holtsclaw, Elizabethton, three sisters and one brother-in-law, Desta Poole, Vivian Hatcher, Wanda and Dennis Barnette, all of Elizabethton, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon and Barbara Edwards, Elizabethton, Robert and Fredia Edwards, Unicoi, three grandchildren, Darrell Holtsclaw, Daniel Holtsclaw, Sarah Holtsclaw, all of Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews, special friend, Frances Estep, Elizabethton, also survive. A native of Roan Mountain, she was the daughter of the late Steven and Lilly Adams Barnett. She was a member of Sims Hill Christian Church and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Earl Henegar and one brother John Barnett. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Norma Henegar, Elizabethton, two granddaughters, Karen Henegar, Elizabethton, Amy and spouse, Donnie West, Elizabethton, two great grandchildren, Cody Roberts, Elizabethton, Maci West, Elizabethton, three sisters, Hazel Dyer, Roan Mountain, Marie Mayfield, Orlando, FL, Katheleen Hurt, Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews also survive.
