FUNERAL NOTICE FOR MRS. FRANCES S. HARVEY Mrs. Frances S. Harvey, age 86, of 14863 Prestige Drive, Woodbridge, VA, formerly of Hillrise Avenue, Elizabethton, died Friday, December 5, 2003 at her residence following a brief illness. Mrs. Harvey was a native of Washington County and had lived most of her life in Carter County. She had lived the last eight years in Woodbridge, VA. Mrs. Harvey was the daughter of the late Warner & Katherine Heaton Shell. She was of the Presbyterian faith. Mrs. Harvey was the Executive Secretary for the local Selective Service Board and retired from the Administrative Board of the Selective Service of Tennessee. She is preceded in death by her husband, G.A. “Red” Harvey, 1975; one sister, Ruth Laurain & one brother, Cecil Shell. Survivors include: one daughter, Debbie Veasey, Woodbridge, VA; two sisters, Helen Martin, Johnson City; Phyllis Reed, Jonesborough; one brother, David Shell, Stanton, VA; two grandchildren, David Veasey, Woodbridge, VA; Beth Veasey, New Jersey; two great grandchildren, Iris Veasey & Tyler Veasey, both of Woodbridge, VA; several nieces & nephews also survive. KATE M. SMITH Kate M. Smith, age 86, formerly of 146 Jim Elliott Road, Elizabethton died Tuesday, September 24, 2003 at Hermitage Health Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest E. and Nannie Peters Smith. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne William Smith, two sisters, three brothers, and one son-in-law, Roger Clark. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Wilson, Sr. and Bessie Myers Wilson. She was a member of West Side Christian Church. She was a retired printer from Fitzsimmons Printing. JAMES “CHICK” REECY FORNEY James “Chick” Reecy Forney, age 79, 711 South Lynn Avenue, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a extended illness. A native of Washington County, he was the son of the late William and Mammie Davis Forney. He was a active member and deacon of Phillipi Baptist Church and was a former treasurer for 35 years, he was also a active member of Phillipi Baptist Church Male Chorus. Mr. Forney was a member of the first semi-professional Blue Gray Baseball Team. He was a retired employee from TVA. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. FRED PERSHING DAVIS Fred Pershing Davis, age 85, of 214 West K Street, Elizabethton, died Thursday evening in the Broadmore Assisted Living Center in Johnson City following a lengthy illness. Mr. Davis was a native of Virginia and the son of the late Grady and Blanche B. Davis. Mr. Davis had lived in Elizabethton since 1929. He was a member of the 1936 class of Elizabethton High School. Mr. Davis had attended Milligan College and East Tennessee State College. Mr. Davis was a member of the 117th Army Reserve Unit of Elizabethton that was called into active duty by President Franklin D Roosevelt at the start of World War II. At the time Mr. Davis was called into active duty he was one quarter short of graduating from East Tennessee State College. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as a member and chairman of the Board of Trustees for many years. He was a member of the Wesley Bible Sunday School Class. Mr. Davis and his wife were the owners and operators of Fred Davis Jewelers of Elizabethton for fifty years. He had retired in 2000. He was a veteran of World War II, a retired U S Army Reserve Colonel, and had participated in combat duty in the Phillipines. He graduated from the Officers Candidate School in Fort Benning, Georgia and the General’s Staff School in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was an active member of the Reserve Officers Association for 30 years during which time he had served as president of the association. Fred had served as a member of the Board of Directors of Carter County Bank from 1974 until 2002. He was a past president of the Elizabethon Jaycees and was voted as Outstanding Young Man of the Year. He was a member and past president of the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club, had served a member and chairman of the Economic Development Commission, and had served as a director of the Tennessee Retail Merchant’s Council. He was a member of VFW Post 2166, the American Legion Post 49, the Elizabethotn Elks Lodge, a member for many years of the Elizabethton Golf Club, a member of Dashiel Masonic Lodge, a York Rite Mason, a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Jericho Shrine Temple. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Clark Davis of the home, two daughters and sons-in-law, Mikki Davis Costner and Scott Costner of Gallatin, TN., Beth Davis Bloomberg and Ronnie Bloomberg of Roswell, GA., four grandchildren, Kelli Parker, Scotty and Davis Costner, and Chesley Blomberg, one sister, Leah (Teed) Baker of Charlottesville, VA. The funeral service for Mr. Davis will be conducted at 3:00 P M Sunday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Carter officiating. CONLEY R. PETERS Conley R. Peters, age 87, 1889 Hwy 91, Elizabethton died Monday, October 20, 2003 at his residence following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late William Bill and Zella Nidiffer Peters. He was a Charter member of Unaka Baptist Church and served a number of years as custodian. He retired from North American Rayon Corporation after 45 years of service. Mr. Peters was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge No. 238 F. & A.M., Elizabethton. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Lola Garland Peters, his 2nd wife, Jeanette Peters and four brothers. PATRICK P. KILDOYLE Patrick P. Kildoyle, age 63, 610 Hattie Ave., Elizabethton, died Tuesday, August 12, 2003 in Quezon City, near Manila, in the Philippines. Mr. Kildoyle was a New York City native and was the son of the late Josey Beth Ellis Gregorie, Charleston, SC and the late Patrick A. Kildoyle, New York City, NY. Mr. Kildoyle spent his high school years in Madisonville, KY and graduated from Madisonville High School after which he served in the United State Army. He earned degrees from City College of New York and New York University. He worked for the Federal Reserve Bank in New York City as an economist for 15 years. Following this he managed several highly successful mutual funds on Wall Street. In more recent years, Mr. Kildoyle had business interests in the Philippines where he was a frequent visitor. He traveled extensively in Asia. Mr. Kildoyle is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Trieste Kildoyle, of the home, two sisters, Bette Baldwin, Johnson City, TN, Kathleen Kildoyle, Miami, FL, two brothers, George Kildoyle, New York City, NY, Edward Kildoyle, Burke, VA, and a number of nieces and nephews and a special friend, Lee Stinnett, Asheville, NC.
