RITA ANN ROBERTS AUSTIN Rita Ann Roberts Austin, age 58, 156 Swimming Pool Road, Hampton died Thursday, September 18, 2003 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Missouri McKinney Roberts. She attended a Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Austin, Jr., and one brother, Wesley Roberts. Survivors include two sons, Robert David Grabinsky, Johnson City, Dino Eugene Austin, Johnson City, three grandchildren, Lea Madrey Austin, Noah Austin, and Jordan Eddy, two sisters, Wanda Ostrander, Arroyo Grand, CA, Loretta Smith, Johnson City, two brothers, Anthony Tony Roberts, Hampton, Elmer Ray Roberts, Unicoi, several nieces and nephews, good friends, Donna Reed, Cody Smith, Travis Brandon, Ray Brandon. The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2003 at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace, with Pastor Phil Reed officiating. Interment will follow in Rittertown Baptist Church Cemetery. OBITUARY AND FUNERAL NOTICE OLLIE MAE McQUEEN Ollie Mae McQueen, age 84, 831 North Roan Street, Elizabethton died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness. A native of West Jefferson, NC, she had lived in Elizabethton most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Nora Black Caudill. Mrs. McQueen attended Roan Street Free Will Baptist Church. She was former employee of Franklin Club and Lakeshore Restaurants, and former caregiver for several people including Dr. H.J. Derthick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry E. McQueen, 1960, several brothers and sisters. Survivors include three daughers and two sons-in-law, Shirley Rambo, Elizabethton, Ruth and Ray Vaughn, Greenville, TN, Mary and Merrill Davis, Greenville, TN, two sons and daughters-in-law, Kyle and Gail McQueen, Hampton, Samuel Lee and Helen McQueen, Green Mountain, NC, one brother, Jack Caudill, Lancing, NC, one sister, Pat Davis, Cleveland, OH, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. SANDRA J. HOLLY Sandra J. Holly, age 61, 1461 Blue Springs Road, Elizabethton died Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Johnsonville, TN, she had lived in Carter County most of her life. She is the daughter of Maggie Elliott Williams, Elizabethton and the late Lawrence V. Williams. She was a retired employee of Carter County Bank. Ms. Holly was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a sister Wyona Shell. In addition to her mother survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Joe Campbell, Elizabethton, two sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley E. Holly, Jr., and Tracy Holly, Elizabethton, Robert L. Holly and Paula Holly, Elizabethton, four grandchildren, Brandon Little, Autumn Little, both of Elizabethton, Ashley Holly and Veronica Holly, both of Elizabethton, two nieces and one nephew also survive. Hartless Woodby, age 78, of 386 Fiddlers Branch Road, Hampton, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at his residence following an extended illness with rheumatoid arthritis. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Lee and Lottie Clark Woodby Mr. Woodby worked as a timber cutter and farmer, before retiring from Harris-Tarkett Inc. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Woodby is preceded in death by four sisters and one brother. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Volena Woodby, of the home; one daughter and special son-in-law, Penny and Greg Davis, Hampton; two special friends, Earl Yelton and Ronnie White, both of Unicoi, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Thursday, April 29, 2004 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, with Rev. Dallas Gregg and Rev. L.D. Berry officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Fork Mountain Trio. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. HAROLD F. STEWART, SR. Harold F. Stewart, Sr., age 71, 169 Echo Drive, Elizabethton, passed away Monday afternoon, March 15, 2004, at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital due to injuries received in a motorcycle accident Saturday. A native of Carter County he was the son of the late Scylar and Nannie Stewart. He was a member of Gold Wing Road Riders Assn, Tenn Chapter C, Moose Lodge #444 of Lexington, KY, the Masonic Lodge of Lexington, Ky, Scottish Rites 32 mason of Lexington, Robert L. Sirkle #954. Mr. Stewart spent twelve years in the US Air Force. He retired from ETSU Museum several years ago. He formerly lived in Lexington, KY where he worked for Brandeis Machinery. He also lived in Topeka, KS where he worked for Kansas Power and Light for Twelve years before moving back to Elizabethton where he was born and raised. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Wynne Summers Stewart of the home; one son, Harold Stewart, Jr., Elizabethton; one granddaughter, Amanda Stewart, Elizabethton; three step-daughters: Mary Eldridge, Hutchinson, KS, Donna Eldridge, Alamagorda, NM and Dianna Salazar, Fort Madison, Iowa; one step-son, John Eldridge, Holt, Missouri; nine step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Helen Workman, Beulah Easton, both of Elizabethton and Edith Mutter, St. Leonard, MD. Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. - Thursday, March 18th, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, with Rev. Dean Myers officiating. Music will be under the direction of Tina Byrd, Patty Hodge and Carol Roberts. Committal and Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Peace, Happy Valley Memorial Park. Bonnie Birchfield, age 84, 110 A Hobart Hyder Lane, Dr. Elizabethton died Thursday, May 6, 2004 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Emma Hill Townsend. She was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was a very loving and caring mother, who loved her children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellick Birchfield, one son, Cecil Birchfield, three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include seven daughters and six sons-in-law, Mrs. L.D. (Ruby) Guinn, Elizabethton, Mrs. Billy Jack (Shirley) Smith, Johnson City, Mrs. Dave (Jean) Lund, Elizabethton, Ms. Jo Whaley, Johnson City, Mrs. Donnie (Judy) Davenport, Elizabethton, Mrs. George (Joyce) Richmond, Elizabethton, Mrs. Wayne (Kathy) Humphrey, Bristol, five sons and four daughters-in-law, Mr. L.J. Roxie Nave Forbes, age 80, 2588 Bob Little Rd., died Thursday, July 8, 2004 at NHC Health Care, Johnson City, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of Elijah and Arra Shell McKinney. She was of the Presbyterian faith and retired from North American Rayon Corporation. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Forbes was preceded in death by her first husband, Norman Stanley Nave, Sr., her second husband, John Forbes, one son, Norman Stanley Nave, Jr., her step-father, Wilson McKinney and one step-brother, Jack McKinney. Survivors are two sisters, Lena Simerly and June McKinney, both of Hampton, one step-brother, Bruce McKinney of Ohio, and one step-sister, Luster Stevens of Hampton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Christine Mary Birchfield Church, age 83, formerly of 144 Gordon Church Road, Elizabethton, died Sunday, May 23, 2004 in Erwin Health Care Center, Erwin, TN following an extended illness. She was born in Carter County, TN and was a daughter of the late Grant and Bertha Irick Birchfield. She was a member of the Valley Forge Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gordie Russel Church and several brothers and sisters. Survivors include two sons, Chrisford Church and Don Church, both of Elizabethton, two daughters, Patye Heaton of Elizabethton, Teresa West of Raleigh, NC, one sister, Lorna Heaton of Erwin, TN, one brother, Roy Birchfield of Elizabethton, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Christine Mary Birchfield Church will be conducted Tuesday, May 25, at 8:00 p.m. in the Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Mr. H. Clay Bailey, Minister, officiating. WAYNE G. WHITEHEAD Wayne G. Whitehead, age 69, 316 University Parkway, Johnson City, died Monday February 9, 2004 at Veterans Administration Nursing Center, Mountain Home, TN, following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Robert Milburn Whitehead and Mayme Miller Whitehead Julian. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Whitehead was a retired employee of Nuclear Fuel Services, Erwin. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. He was preceded in death by a brother, Warren Julian, and infant twins, Harold and Nancy Whitehead. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Tina Whitehead, Watauga, Allen and Paula Whitehead, Johnson City, Grady and Genia Whitehead, Elizabethton, eleven grandchildren, one great grandson, one sister, Margaret Shaw, Roan Mountain, several nieces and nephews , a special friend, Elizabeth Reeves, Johnson City, also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 12, at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. James Arwood and Rev. Craig Shelton officiating. THERESA C. BRUMIT Theresa C. Brumit, age 100, formerly of Elizabethton, died Sunday, November 30, 2003, in the Asbury Center, Johnson City following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dollie McCain Clark. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter B. Brumit. Mrs. Brumit was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elizabethton, and a former member of the choir. She was a member of the Franklin Flower Club and a homemaker. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Kenneth and Bettye Brumit, Elizabethton and Horace and Sarah Mack Brumit, Banner Elk, NC; two sisters: Marguerite Davis, Elizabethton and Bernice Furches, Atlanta, GA; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside service for Mrs. Brumit will be conducted at 1:30 P.M. - Wednesday, in the Chapel of Peace Mausoleum at Happy Valley Memorial Park, with Rev.
