Edward Dale Perry, age 76, 177 Bart Green Drive, Gray, formerly of Roan Mountain, died Sunday September 14, 2003 at his residence following a brief illness. He was a native of Carter County, and a son of the late Arthur Mac and Myrtle Lenna Jestes Perry. Mr. Perry was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a retired Vocational Principal and teacher at Happy Valley High School. He taught in the Carter County School System for 42 years. He was a 30 year member and former Sunday school teacher at Grays Chapel Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army/ Air Force having served in WWII. Mr. Perry was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Ruth Perry; four brothers, Roger Perry, Hyder Perry, Linville Perry, and Lane Perry. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Tom Buchanan, Johnson City, and Judy and Drew Hardin, Knoxville, Tn., one granddaughter, Celesta Buchanan, Ann Arbor, Michigan; one grandson, Garth Fine, Johnson City; one brother, Astor Perry, Raleigh, North Carolina, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Edward Dale Perry will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 16, 2003, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. The Committal and Entombment service will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers are Garth Fine, Wayne Decker, F.D. Singleton, Tom Burleson, Ron Anderson, Bob Burleson, Edwin Decker, Bill Watson, Durward Julian, and Ray Greer. Those who plan to attend the committal service are requested to meet at the cemetery at 9:55 A.M. Wednesday. The family will receive friends in the chapel of the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. William C. “Tommy” Hartsook William C. “Tommy” Hartsook, age 72, 340 Lovers Lane, Elizabethton, died unexpectedly Friday, September 19, 2003, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Sullivan County, he was the son of the late John C. and Rowena Hyatt Hartsook. Mr. Hartsook was of the Holiness faith and a former employee of Elizabethton Herb and Metal. Survivors include his wife, Roberta Gentry Hartsook, of the home; one son, William C. Hartsook, Jr., Elizabethton; one sister, Ollie King, Kingsport; one brother, Frank Hartsook, Bluff City; Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. The Memorial Service for Mr. Hartsook will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 25, 2003 in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, with Rev. Doug Wagner officiating. NORA ANN ASHLEY NORA ANN ASHLEY, age 49, 130 Ben Ashley Lane, Roan Mountain, died Friday, July 4, 2003, in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital, following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Edith Hughes McMahan. She was preceded in death by a brother, terry McMahan. Mrs. Ashley was a dietitian at the Roan Highland Nursing Home and a member of Roan Park Baptist Church. SURVIVORS include her husband, Charles Ashley, of the home; two daughters: Kindel Ashley and Shannon Ashley, both of Roan Mountain; two granddaughters: Madison Ashley and Ashley Trammel, both of Roan Mountain; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Lena and Wally Hitechew, Roan Mountain and Connie McMahan, Elizabethton; two brothers and sisters-in-law: C.W. and Ann McMahan, Roan Mountain and Eddie and Penny McMahan, Elizabethton; special niece: Melissa Nicholes, Elizabethton; several other nieces and nephews also survive. A native of Wise County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Shannon Richmond, Sr., and Helen Phillips Richmond. She was a member of Phillippi Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Snap On Tools. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Gillespie, 1980 and one brother, Harold “Sonny” Richmond. A native of Washington County and had lived in Carter County most of her life. Mrs. Slagle was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John E. Keys. She was a member of First Baptist Church Elizabethton. She was a homemaker and former President of Elizabethton High School Band Booster’s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. H.M. Slagle, Jr., March 10, 1989, one brother, John P. Keys and one sister, Elizabeth Lyon. Survivors include, one daughter and son-in-law, Shirlene and Terry Sams, North Augusta, SC, one son, H.M. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Weaver and Ethel Johnson Holtsclaw. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Hughes, a son, Ralph Hughes, several brothers and sisters. Mrs. Hughes was a homemaker and a member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. A native of Roan Mountain, he is the son of Leonard and Violet (Bobbie) Garrison, Roan Mountain, TN. He was a member of the Steamfitters Local in Jacksonville, FL and also a former member of Steamfitter Local 538 in Johnson City, TN. He was preceded in death by a son, Brandon Garrison. Survivors in addition to his parents, include his wife, Pamela Garrison, of the home, two step daughters, Jody Marchant, Linsy Adams, three step grandchildren, one brother, Samuel Ray Garrison, Roan Mountain, two special nephews, Denny Garrison, and Samuel Lee Garrison, several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive. A graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, October 11, at Lower Garrison Cemetery, Roan Mountain with Mr. Gerald Holly, Minister officiating.
