HAZEL A. WATSON Hazel A. Watson, age, 76, 407 South Taylor Ave., Baltimore, MD died Monday, March 22, 2004 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Baltimore, MD unexpectedly. She was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late George and Kate Hubbard McKinney. She was of the Baptist Faith. She was a dental assistant. Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Watson, two brothers, William McKinney, Otis McKinney and one sister, Negetha Townsend. Survivors include two sisters, Geraldine Smith, Elizabethton, Shirley Cole, Johnson City, one brother, Basil McKinney, Jonesborough, a dear friend, Theodore S. Kolodziejski, Baltimore, MD, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004 at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. C.W. Snograss officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mr. Sonny Gouge. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday, in the funeral home chapel prior to the funeral service or friends may also call at the home of a sister, Shirley Cole, 1661 Powder Branch Road, Johnson City anytime. Dean H. Guffey, age 63, 1106 Lynndale Drive, Elizabethton, died Monday May 24, 2004 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a battle with cancer. A native of Sullivan County, he had lived in Elizabethton since 1964. He was the son of the late Roy Fuller and Maggie Harrington Guffey. Mr. Guffey loved the Lord and was a member, Deacon and Sunday School teacher at Grace Baptist Church and had a influence on young peoples lives by the Christian life he lived. He was currently a math teacher at Happy Valley High School, and had taught at University High School and Washington College Academy. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Guffey, April, 17, 1986 and one sister, Margaret Webster. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Rutledge Guffey, of the home, one son, David Guffey, Johnson City, four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Roy Guffey, Jr., and Gladys Guffey, Bristol, TN, Jerry Guffey, Bristol, TN, Glenn and Joann Guffey, New Orleans, LA, Bobby and Joann Guffey, Brisol, VA, two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Bud Steadman, Bristol, VA, Wilma and Charlie Allen, Radford, VA, mother-in-law, Carrie Ruthledge, Bluff City, TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A celebration of Life service for Dean H. Guffey will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Owens officiating. Music will be under the direction of Rev. Gordon Kyte. The family will receive friends at Grace Baptist Church, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the celebration of life service. Evelyn J. Anderson Evelyn J. Anderson, age 79, of 340 H. Heaton Road, Elizabethton, TN, died Sunday, March 21, 2004 at the Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness. She was a native of Kenosha, WI, but has lived the past three months in Carter County. Mrs. Anderson was a daughter of the late Edward and Ida Warren Bartel. She was a member of the Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses of Newland, NC, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Donald L. Anderson Sr., of the home; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Donald Anderson Jr. and Patricia Anderson, Roan Mountain, Aaron and Joyce Anderson, Green Lake WI; five grandchildren and three sisters also survive. Roy Lee Troutman, Sr., age 85, of 189 Hwy. 143, Roan Mountain, TN, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 20, 2004 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton. Mr. Troutman was a native of Carter County and was a son of the late Hezekiah and Della Heaton Troutman. He attended Victory Baptist Church. He was retired as owner/operator of the Phillips 66 Service Station in Roan Mountain. Mr. Troutman was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Hughes Troutman on January 28, 1999, a daughter, Dorothy T. Hughes and a granddaughter, Toni Young Vess. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and C. L. Young of Minneapolis, NC, Billie and LeRoy Gray of Greeneville, TN, and Ruth Ann and Terry Tipton of Johnson City, TN, one son, Roy Lee Troutman, Jr., Roan Mountain, four brothers, Guy Troutman of Hampton, J. L. Troutman and Jack Troutman, both of Roan Mountain, Ralph Troutman, of Elizabethton, two sisters, Edith Troutman Street and Willie Troutman Barnett, both of Roan Mountain. Six grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Roy Lee Troutman, Sr. will be conducted Saturday, May 22, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the Tetrick Funeral Home Rhododendron Chapel, Roan Mountain with Rev. Jerry Honeycutt and Rev. Jim McMahan officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service in the Chapel, or at other times at the home place in Burbank community. Mossie A. Nave Bowers, age 79, Life Care Center of Elizabethton, formerly of Lynn Avenue, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late. William “Bill” David and Laura Bowers Nave, and she was married to the late Clyde Bowers. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Nave. Survivors include one daughter, Joyce A. Kelley, Johnson City, one son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Frances Bowers, Elizabethton, one granddaughter and spouse, Joy Kelley Snyder and David Snyder, Johnson City, two grandsons and spouse, David Bowers, Jerry and Michelle Bowers, all of Elizabethton, two great granddaughters, Sarah Bowers, Elizabethton, Dreama Barnett, Johnson City, four great grandsons, Michael Miller, Nicholas Mills, both of Johnson City, Samuel Bowers, Daniel Bowers, both of Elizabethton and one nephew, Larry Nave. He was a native of Watauga County, NC and had lived in Avery County, NC most of his life. He is the son of Maretta Sue Parlier Baker, Elk Park, NC, and the late Creed Edward Baker. Mr. Baker attended Fall Creek Baptist Church, Elk Park, NC. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Florence Winters Baker and Mack Baker. She was a native of Avery County, NC, but has lived in Carter County most of her life. Mrs. Trivett was a daughter of the late Nelson and Alice Pruett Davis. She attended Long Hollow Missionary Baptist Church, but was a member of Beech Mountain Baptist Church, Beech Mountain, NC, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Trivett was preceded in death by her husband Arlie Ray Trivett in 1990; two sons, Bernard Trivett and Horton Ray Trivett; one grandson, Timothy Ray Trivett. ELIZABETH “ANN” WATSON Elizabeth “Ann” Watson, age 44, 137 Dan Bowers Road, Elizabethton, died unexpectedly, Saturday, March 13, 2004, at her residence. A native of Johnson County she was the daughter of Kenneth Campbell, Crestview, FL and Betty Arnold Collins, Elizabethton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Campbell and a sister, Della Arnold. She was a homemaker and attended East Side Christian Church. Her special Christmas Tradition was having all of her “kids” around her, watching Rudolph. Ann “Neene” loved nothing more than to be surrounded by her “kids”. JOE W. MORRELL Joe W. Morrell, age 65, 611 Elm Street, Elizabethton died Saturday, March 13, 2004, at his residence folowing a brief illness. A native of Sullivan County, but a lifetime resident of Carter County, he was the son of the late Earl “Little Joe” and Dorothy Bauton Morrell. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Morrell. Mr. Morrell was of the Baptist faith and a part time employee of the Carter County Sherriff’s Department. He was retired from the TN Department of Transportation and a member of the Elizabethton Moose and Elks Lodge and the Captain Lynn H. Folsom, V.F.W. Post No. 2166. He attended University of Tennessee, University of Maryland and was a graduate of Steed College He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Gynith Burnette Morrell, of the home; four daughters and two sons-in-law: Kelli Jo Morrell, CA, Lisa and Charlie Hayes, Lee and Dennis Lyons and Michelle Combs, all of Elizabethton; two sons and one duaghter-in-law: Anthony and Amy Burnette, Elk Park, NC and Joseph Morrell, of the home; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three brothers: Richard Morrell, Harriman, TN, Larry Morrell, Elizabethton and Earnest Morrell, Greeneville, TN; two sisters: Helen Hughes, Spartenburg, SC and Carolyn Crosswhite, Elizabethton; a special angel, Marie Senter; a special cousin, Juanita Grubb; several nieces and nephews also survive. Graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. - Tuesday, March 16, 2004, in the Caldwell Springs Cemetery, with Mr. Doug Buckles and Rev. Mark Grubb officiating. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mina Franklin Stafford. She was a member of Elizabethton Church of Christ. Mrs. Eller was a former L.P.N at Carter County Memorial Hospital and retired from the medical department at North American Rayon Corporation. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Hampton, 1973, her second husband, Dennis Eller, 1999, four brothers, Earl Stafford, Jerry Stafford, Bill Stafford, Larry Stafford, four sisters, Nell Potter, Christine Laws, Shirley Stafford and Betty Stafford. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Bret Hampton, Chad Hampton, Derek Hampton, George Ellis, Paul Stafford, Willie Holtsclaw, Steve Roberts and Dennis Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be all men of the Elizabethton Church of Christ. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home chapel at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Ledora Presnell Ledora Presnell, age 54, 623-A Walnut Street, Elizabethton, died Thursday, March 18, 2004, in the Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Elliott, Jr. and Leona Braswell Elliott. Mrs. Presnell was a member of Zion Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, David Presnell, of the home; a son and daughter- in- law, Ray and Sherry Deloach, Hampton; a daughter and son-in-law, Tenessa and Joey Tipton, Johnson City; a grandson, Brody Deloach, Hampton; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Danny and Tonya Elliott, Hampton, Johnny and Barbara Elliott, Elizabethton, and Jackie Elliott, Johnson City; a sister and brother-in-law, Sherry and Richard Harmon, Elizabethton; several nieces and nephews also survive. The Candlelight Funeral Service will be conducted at 8:00 P.M., Saturday March 20, 2004, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home, with Rev. Dean Presnell and Rev. Allen Simerly officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gene Presnell and Michael Presnell. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Saturday, prior to the service or at the residence at anytime. The committal and entombment service will be at 1:30 P.M. Sunday in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Ray Deloach, Jeremy Elliott, Jason Elliott, Sean Elliott, Jamie Presnell, and Steve Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Elliott, Johnny Elliott, Jackie Elliott, Richard Harmon, Harold Presnell, J.W. Braswell, George Stout, and Harold Mann. Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:00 P.M. Sunday, to go in procession to the cemetery.
