GEORGIA PUTMAN Georgia Putman, age 76, 140 Herm Barnett Road, Roan Mountain died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at Roan Highlands Nursing Center following a lengthy illness. A native of Mitchell County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Eddie Wilson and Dovie McNeil Melton. She was a homemaker and a member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a infant daughter, Patricia Putman, 1 brother, Lonnie Wilson and 1 sister, Ellen Hudson. Survivors include her husband, George (Wash) Putman, of the home, 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Putman, of the home, Wanda and Wayne Stocton, Roan Mountain, Alma and Larry Gouge, Roan Mountain, 1 son and daughter-in-law, Charles (Gene) and Carron Putman, Roan Mountain, 7 grandchildren, Rodney Stocton, Shannon Forbes, Karen Carr, Jeffery Gouge, Christopher Gouge, Judy Hill, Jessica Putman, 10 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Herman Wilson, Connley Springs, NC, several nieces and nephews, a special friend, Gladys Barnette, Roan Mountain also survive. The funeral service for Georgia Putman, age 76, 140 Herm Barnett Road, Roan Mountain who died Tuesday, March 25, 2003 will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27 at Burbank Free Will Baptist Church, Roan Mountain with Rev. Richard Blevins and Rev. Leonard Sheehan officiating. Music will be under the direction of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church Choir. The graveside service and interment will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 28 at Hughes Family Cemetery, Buledean, NC. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Jake and Nancy Jones Potter. Mrs. Leonard was the oldest active member of Hampton Freewill Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert (Bob) Leonard, three brothers and five sisters. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Sherry Leonard, Kenneth and De.De. Leonard, all of Elizabethton; Two sisters, Okie Calhoun of Hampton, and Florence McDonald of Adrian, MI; Two grandsons, Josh Leonard of Abingdon, VA and G. W. John R. Blankenship, Jr., 73, 601 Ridgefield Drive, Elizbethton, died Sunday, April 27, 2003 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Greene County, he was the son of the late John R. & Mabel Sotherland Blankenship, Sr. . Mr. Blankenship was a graduate of Happy Valley High School and attended Steed College. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and retired from East Tennessee State University. Mr. Blakenship was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238 F & AM. He was also a member of the Jericho Shrine Temple and a past patron of the Eastern Star #163. Mr. Blankenship was preceded in death by one brother, George Wallace “Pete” Blankenship. He was a native of Carter County, and he was the son of the late Kenneth D. and Juanita Osborne Crumley. He was a member of Sinking Creek Baptist Church. He was an employee of Asbury Center and also was a part time employee of Johnson City Senior Citizens Center. He was a graduate of Happy Valley High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a uncle, Cecil Obsorne. WILLIE A. LYONS Willie A. Lyons, age 93, Hillview Health Center, formerly of 601 West C Street, Elizabethton, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Hillview Health Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Landon J. and Dell Cenie Clemons Lyons. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a former member of Harmony Baptist Church. Mr. Lyons was a retired electrical contractor. He was a retired state electrical inspector. Mr. Lyons was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lou Baird Lyons on April 19, 1991; four brothers, Roy Lyons, Earl Lyons Clarence Lyons and Howard Lyons; a sister, Armita Myers; and two grandsons, Eddie Lyons and Howard Lyons. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jeannette and Clinton Boswell of Johnson City; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Darrel and Hettie Lyons and Kenneth Lyons, all of Elizabethton; a sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Rev. A native of Unicoi County, she had lived in Elizabethton most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Pearl Castell Riddle. She was a member of First Christian Church, Elizabethton, where she taught Sunday School. She was a retired employee of Elizabethton Federal Savings Bank and was a former member of Business & Professional Women. She also served on various boards of Carter County, and was involved in community activities. She was preceded in death one brother, Dr. Doug Riddle.
