Obituary and Funeral Notice for: George E. Shell George E. Shell, age 88, formerly of 615 West E. Street, Elizabethton, died Thursday, August 14, 2003 at the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late William L. and Anna Bell Shell. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and a former employee of the Mother Parts. Mr. Shell was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Herman Shell in November 10, 1999. Survivors include: One daughter, Carole A. Brookshire, Elizabethton; one son and daughter-in-law, Norris and Sharon Shell, Elizabethton, five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Saturday, August 16, 2003 in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home of Elizabethton with Rev. Clarence Phillips and Mr. Gilbert Hardin officiating. The graveside and interment service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 17 at Happy Valley Memorial Park, Elizabethton. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are requested to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 P.M. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 P.M. ROBERT C. MEREDITH Robert C. Meredith, age 91, 709 West “H” Street, Elizabethton died Tuesday, August 19, 2003 at James H. Quillen Veterans Medical Center Nursing Home following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late William Robert and Minnie C. Garrison Meredith. He was a member of East Side Free Will Baptist Church. He was a retired supervisor from Bemberg. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and served during World War II, during his enlistment he received two bronze stars and one silver star. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veda Treadway Meredith, four brothers and five sisters. Survivors include one sister, Ruby Donnelly, Orlando, FL, several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, at Tetrick Funeral Home Chapel of Peace with Rev. Howard Messer officiating. Music will be under the direction of Jennifer Martin. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 9:00 a.m. Friday, August 22, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. ELSIE CARVER HYDER Elsie Carver Hyder, age 81, 409 Cottage Avenue, Elizabethton, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 in the Pine Ridge Care Center. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of the late Nat & Nola Cochran Carver. Mrs. Hyder was a member of Roan Street Freewill Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of Texas Instruments. Mrs. Hyder was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hyder (1971), an infant son, Glenn Hyder (1991), a daughter, Sherry Grindstaff (2000), two brothers, Byrl & Earl Carver. She was a former medical secretary. A native of Avery County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Martha Ellen Church. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Elizabethton since 1939. Nave, 3 brothers, 1 sister, and one grandson. WARREN G. ESTEP, SR. Warren G. Estep, Sr., age 80, 125 Nannie Smith Road, Hampton, TN died Saturday, March 1, 2003 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Henry & Bertie Scalf Estep. Mr. Estep was a retired painter with Grandfather Mountain Incorporated. He was an avid fisherman and had received the pioneer award for co-founding the Hampton Bass Club. Mr. Estep was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II. He is preceded in death by an infant brother, three sisters: Lenice “Sweetie” Lyons, Edith Estep & Hildred Peeks; two grandsons: Gary Lynn Elliott & Timothy Michael White. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late George W. and Claudia Bowling Oliver. He was a retired employee of Carter Enterprises. He was a member of Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Lyons and two brothers, Ira Oliver and Dallas Oliver. Survivors include two sons, Johnny Oliver of South Carolina and G. W. Oliver of Georgia; three daughters, Barbara Baron of Johnson City and Patricia Greene and Marie Berry both of Elizabethton; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Dorothy Lyons, Margaret Stout and Helen Garland all of Elizabethton. Mrs. Boswell was a native of Morven, NC, the daughter of the late Emma New and Benjamine Franklin Gathings. She lived in Elizabethton, most of her life. Mrs. Boswell attended Bible Church in South Johnson City for 40 years. Mrs. Boswell was preceded in death by an infant son, James Marvin and husband, Charles (Jay) Boswell, four sisters and six brothers. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Carolyn Cornett, Elizabethton, three sons, Charles Clint Boswell, Johnson City, Harold Wayne Boswell, Limestone, Bill Nelson Boswell, Elizabethton, eleven grandsons, two granddaughters, thirteen great grandsons, six great granddaughters, three great great granddaughters, several nieces and nephews also survive.
