DORIS I. COLE DORIS I. COLE, age 51, 191 Cole Hollow Road, Elizabethton died Tuesday, June 3, 2003 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital unexpectedly. A native of Thomasville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Bullins and Besty York Henson. She attended Carter Christian Church and was a housewife. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Cole. Survivors include her husband, Danny Cole, of the home, a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Sandy Bullins, Elizabethton, four sisters, Donna Hunt, Darlene Hunt, Shirley McDowell, Patsy Bullins, all of Thomasville, NC, one brother, Darrell Bullins, Thomasvillle, NC, three grandchildren, ten nieces and nephews, and six great nieces and nephews also survive. DIANE INGRAM McKINNEY Diane Ingram McKinney, age 46, 117 Shenandoah Dr., Johnson City, died Friday, June 6, 2003 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was the daughter of Margie Henson Hartley and the late William Hicks. Mrs. McKinney attended Hampton Freewill Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by two uncles, Conley Hicks & Bernard Hicks. ROY J. BURROW Roy J. Burrow, age 82, 1302 Lowe Street, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Brown and Minnie Fair Burrow. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, Elizabethton. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and a member of the Elizabethton Elks Lodge. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II and Korean Conflict, Mr. Burrow also retired from Tennessee National Guard. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Frances Burrow, 12/28/1997, one brother, Gene Borrow, three sisters, Leona Hodge, Edna Pope, and Mary Kate Johnson. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Pat Burrow, Elizabethton, Lee Burrow, of the home, a granddaughter and spouse, Kim and Ed Howat, West Lafayette, IN, two great grandsons, Tyler and Drew Howat, both of West Lafayette, IN, a brother-in-law and spouse Bud and Marie Deloach, Elizabethton, several nieces and nephews also survive. MABEL LOUISE McCOURY Mabel Louise McCoury, age 85, formerly of 8005 Hwy 19E, Roan Mountain, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 at Pine Ridge Care Center, Elizabethton following a lengthy illness. Mrs. McCoury was a Carter County native and the daughter of the late Stokes and Nora Caldwell Freeman. She was a member of Roan Mountain First Baptist Church, a housewife and former employee or North American Rayon Corporation. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde Freeman, Roy Freeman, James Freeman and and a sister, Ethel Stout. A native of Carter County, he is the son of Beatrice Stout Williams, of the home and the late Ollie B. Williams. He was of the First Church of God faith. He was a former employee of Kennametal Inc. He was a 1973 graduate of Elizabethton High School. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, David Wayne Williams and Billy Jack Williams. Survivors in addition to his mother, include two brothers and one sister-in-law, Jeffrey Williams, of the home, Donald R. and Judy L. He was a native of Avery County, NC. He was the son of the late Robert and Lyda Young Ollis. Mr. Ollis was retired as a guard from North Carolina Prison Department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nadine Yates Ollis, 1976. Survivors include, one daughter and son-in-law, Rev. DALLAS WAYNE “D.W.” WILLIAMS Early on the morning of Friday, June 20, 2003, following a long illness, DALLAS WAYNE “D.W.” WILLIAMS, 340 Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, the same piece of land where he was born, March 10, 1937, passed away in the James H. Quillen, V.A. Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, where he was cared for by several family members and an attentive staff. He was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Pless Thomas and Shirley Hazel Pearce Williams. Prior to his retirement he was employed by North American Rayon Corporation, Beaunit Fibers, 3rd Unit, Daniel’s Construction Company and P.S.G. Corporation of Carter County. He was a veteran of the Vietnam era and a member of the Elizabethton Church of Christ. He enjoyed traveling and had worked throughout the United States, but he loved living in Carter County, TN. Survivors include three children and spouses: Randall Conley “Hank” and Anna Williams, Theodore Millard “Ted” Williams. Jennifer and Mark Sturgill, all of Carter County; Seven adored grandchildren: Joseph Deel of the U.S. Coast Guard, Randi and Cassie Williams, Brandy, Emma, Sierra and Issac Sturgill; his former wife, Linda Beatrice Pike Williams, of Carter County, a native of Anniston, AL; one brother and sister-in-law, Conley and Nancy Williams, of Carter County; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Wanda Lee and Tommy McKeehan. Shirley Jean and Byron “Buddy” Rowan of Searcy, AK and Deanna and Paul Baird of Carter County; many loved nieces and nephews as well as devoted friends and neighbors, too numerous to mention. MYRTLE LITTLE CARVER Myrtle Little Carver, age 94, 2200 State Line Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, June 19, 2003 at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. She was a native of Carter County, and the daughter of the late Arthur Ruble (Buck) and Lena Madge Hatcher Little. Mrs. Carver attended East Tennessee State Teachers College and was employed as a teacher and principal in the Carter County School System. She was a member of the Valley Forge United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Carver, two sisters, Nannie Renfro and Cora Lee Little, and five brothers, Thurman, Paul, Harry, Tillman, and Clarence Little. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Louise Carver, Bristol, Linda and Robert Fanslow, Kingsport, four grandchildren and spouses, Robert and Jan Fanslow, Atlanta, GA, Mary Fanslow, Kingsport, Jane Fanslow Eaton and Larry Eaton, Atlanta, GA, Thomas Fanslow, Washington, D.C., one sister, Rose Little Welch, Elizabethton, one brother and two sisters-in-law, Emory Lewis “Jack” and Dorothy Little, Winona Rader Little, all of Elizabethton, many nieces and nephews also survive. Brice Robinson Mr. Brice Robinson, age 91, of 218 Berry Hill Road Elizabethton died Monday, June 23, 2003 at his farm from injuries received in a tractor accident. Mr. Robinson was a native of Johnson County and was a son of the late Seth and Ethel Allen Robinson. He was the oldest active member of the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church, a farmer, and was a retired school bus driver for the Carter County School System. He was former Chairman of the Board of the ASCS, a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation and was the Wagon Train Head Master. Mr. Robinson was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Berry Robinson, by one brother, Bud Robinson and by two sisters, Grace Galloway and Nell Bowers. Survivors include one son, Dean Robinson, Elizabethton, one daughter, Anna Ruth Pierce, Elizabethton, and one sister, Charlotte Smith of Elizabethton. Two granddaughters, Mikki Robinson Smith and JoAnna Pierce Orr, both of Elizabethton. One grandson, Lynn Robinson, Rutherfordton, North Carolina, three great grandchildren, Amanda Smith, Corey Smith and Sara Jo Elizabeth Orr, all of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Brice Robinson, age 91 of 218 Berry Hill Road Elizabethton who died Monday, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday from the Caldwell Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Haskell Ingram, Dr. Kenneth Jordan and Dr. Bill Duncan, officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Smith Sisters.
