86 year old Jocie Evelyn Parsley of Cookeville Highway, Smithville died Friday morning, January 14 at Baptist DeKalb Hospital of an extended illness. She was a retired seamstress, a member of the Smithville First United Methodist Church, and a member of the United Methodist Women's Club. The funeral will be Sunday, January 16 at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Leland Carden and Terry Little will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Nancy Elizabeth Ferrell Tittsworth. She is survived by her husband, A.V. Parsley of Smithville. Seven children, James Clayton Parsley, Nina Rhody, and Vester Parsley, Jr. all of Smithville, Reba Patton of McMinnville, Jerrie Paone of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Judy Mundt of Denton, Texas, and Penny Bolton of Murfreesboro. One sister, Bonnie Puckett of Smithville. Special caregiver, Christine Bain of Smithville. Fifteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral at 1:00 p.m.

Peterson
56 year old Anders Peter Peterson III, better known as Butch or Pete Peterson, of Smithville died suddenly Thursday, January 13 at his home. He was a heavy duty mechanic, a member of the VFW, AMVETS, a Baptist, and a U.S. Army Veteran. The funeral will be Sunday, January 16 at 3:30 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his wife, Martha Cox Peterson of Smithville. Two sons, Anders Peter Peterson IV and Arron Peterson both of Florida. Two daughters, Amber Valvo and Amy Peterson both of Florida. Two step sons, Bryan and Christopher Edge of Smithville. One step daughter, Elizabeth Edge of Smithville. Three grandchildren, three aunts, and several cousins also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral at 3:30 p.m.

Stapley
80 year old Howard Stapley of Sparta died Monday, May 29 at the Veterans Hospital in Murfreesboro. A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, where he was a member on Friday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest and Edith Stapley. He is survived by his wife, Mary Stapley of Sparta. Four sons, Marvin Stapley of Virginia, Bruce Stapley of Arizona, Shane Stapley of Illinois, and Craig Stapley of Sparta. Nine grandchildren and one sister, Lois Jenkins of Wisconsin. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. No visitation will be held.

32 year old Barry Lynn Melton died in a Warren County traffic accident Sunday, May 28. He was a native of Belvider, Illinois, a member of the Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and an employee of the Carrier Corporation. The funeral will be Wednesday, May 31 at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home in McMinnville. Virgil Hibdon, Jr. and Greg Hibdon will officiate and burial will be in the Banks Cemetery. He is survived by his father and mother, William Leonard Melton and Rose E. Melton Watson of McMinnville; a brother, Brad Melton of McMinnville; his maternal grandparents, J.W. and Loretta Watson of the Green Hill Community; his paternal grandmother, Bertie Hutchins of McMinnville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. 74 year old Sammy Bain of Smithville died Monday, April 26 of an extended illness at Baptist DeKalb Hospital. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, a retired TVA employee, and a Pentecostal. The funeral will be Thursday, April 29 at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Elder Frances Foster and Charles Braswell will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobby and Alpha Cripps Bain and two brothers, Charles Bain and Dewey Bain. He is survived by his wife, Mary Bain of Smithville. Three sons, Lynn Bain of Milton, Mark Bain of Rock Island, and Dewayne Bain of Smithville. Two daughters, Melissa Gerringer and Ann Bain both of Smithville. Two step-daughters, Angie Foutch and Kim Young both of Smithville. One brother, Creston Bain of Smithville. Four sisters, Louise C. Frazier and Martha Preston both of Smithville, Billie Bates of Benton, Kentucky, and Elizabeth Braswell of Ringold, Georgia. Thirteen Grandchildren and three great grandchildren. 75 year old Robert Glen Ellis of Watertown died Tuesday, May 4 at his home. He was a retired carpenter, a Baptist, and a DeKalb County native. Tittsworth
A former WJLE General Manager died Sunday, May 2 at his Dunlap home of an extended illness. 60 year old Tollye Wayne Tittsworth served as the station manager during the early 1960's. He was a Warren County native and a broadcasting executive who was owner and general manager of Dunlap's WSDQ since 1986. Tittsworth was a 1959 graduate of the Nashville Broadcasting Training Institute. He had worked with several broadcasting stations in Tennessee. Tittsworth owned and operated WSMT AM/FM in Sparta from 1975-80. He was operations manager for WBMC/WTRZ in McMinnville from 1980-86. Tittsworth was a member of several civic and professional organizations, including the Dunlap Chamber of Commerce, the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters, the Sequatchie County Hospital Board, the Sequatchie Valley Historical Association and the Exchange Club in McMinnville. The funeral will be Thursday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Love-Cantrell & Cope funeral home in McMinnville. Burial will be in the Greenwood cemetery in Doyle, Tennessee. The family will receive friends at the Ewton Funeral Home in Dunlap from 2 until 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 4 and from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 5 at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home in McMinnville. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Myers Tittsworth. One son, Steven Tittsworth of Florida. A stepdaughter, Teresa Ann Hennessee of Johnson City. His mother, Willie Cantrell Tittsworth of Dunlap. A brother, James Tittsworth of Detroit, Michigan, and a sister, Rita Poncina of Arizona. Redmon
84 year old Lorene Slatton Redmon of McMinnville died Tuesday, May 4 at River Park Hospital in McMinnville of an extended illness. She was a DeKalb County native and a homemaker. The funeral will be Thursday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. at the Newtown The Baptist Church, where she was a member. Darrell Cantrell will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ollie Vaughn Slatton; her husband, Charlie Roston Redmon; a daughter, Betty Christine Prater; and two sons, James Calvin and John Edward Redmon. She is survived by two daughters, Audrey Dell Knowles of Smithville and Charlene Pickett of McMinnville. Two sons, Royce Redmon and Keith Redmon both of McMinnville. One sister, Gladys Prater of McMinnville. One brother, Howard Stephens of Sparta. Ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren survive. McMinnville Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Lester Layne Griffin
94 year old Lester Layne Griffin of Smithville died Wednesday. He was a native of Wilson County but lived most of his life in DeKalb County. He was a self employed businessman, a Shriner for more than 50 years and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Smithville. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the Milton Cemetery. David Turner will officiate. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Hancock Griffin and his parents, Ballard and Mettie Cunningham Griffin. He is survived by his daughter, Lillian Griffin Knight of Murfreesboro. A brother, John Doyle Griffin of Watertown. A sister, Dara Griffin Shaver of Woodbridge, Virginia. Grandchildren, Ronnie and his wife Rosaline Knight, Randy and his wife Debbie Knight, and Ricky and his wife Phyllis Knight. Four great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren survive. Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home in Murfreesboro is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday. The family requests that memorials be made to Stones River Manor in lieu of flowers.
