David Allen Hesson, Sr.

47 year old David Allen Hesson, Sr. of Smithville died Friday of an extended illness at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was a nursery worker. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Robert Page will officiate and burial will be in the Cannady Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:30 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Hesson, Sr.; a daughter, Martha Sue Caldwell; two grandchildren, Jena Coronado and Christian Hesson; and a brother, Tommy Hesson. Survivors include his wife, Jena Hesson of Smithville. Three children, April and her husband Martin Coronado, James and his wife Sherry Hesson, and David, Jr. and his wife Kathey Hesson all of Smithville. His mother, Virginia Hesson of Cleveland. A brother, Bobby Hesson, Jr. of Cleveland. Five sisters, Jo Alred of Old Hickory, Edna Hesson of Atlanta, Georgia, Ruthy Marmon of Cleveland, and Briana Hesson and Miranda Hesson both of Kentucky. Six grandchildren and six step grandchildren also survive. The family asks that donations be made in lieu of flowers to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.

William Ed "Skillet" Rutland

77 year old William Ed "Skillet" Rutland of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was retired from Estes Furniture Company. The funeral will be Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. James Hayes and Wade Smith will officiate and burial will be in the Baker Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Annie Rutland; his wife, Joleen Rutland; and a brother, Robert Rutland. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, David, Sr. and Denise Rutland of Smithville. Four grandchildren, Lanetta League of Clarksville, D.J. Rutland, Trista Armour, and E.J. League all of Smithville. One sister, Janette League of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

Paul Bradley Blankenship

78 year old Paul Bradley Blankenship of Smithville (Belk Community) died Thursday at his residence. He was founder and former owner of Bradley Printing, and a longtime employee of the Smithville Review. He was also a member of the Gideon's and was a deacon of the New Union The Baptist Church since 1962 and a member for 66 years. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 pm. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Darrell Cantrell, Kenneth Brown, and Anthony Pelham will officiate and burial will be in the New Union Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.; Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reed and Mary Rankhorn Blankenship; a brother, Elzie Blankenship; and three sisters, Delma Wright, Nannie Wright, and Lola Griffin. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Ray Blankenship of Smithville. Two daughters, Paula and her husband Danny Roller of Rock Island and Teresa and her husband Keith Turner of Maryville. Four grandchildren, Sarah and Mary Elizabeth Roller of Rock Island, and Allison and Daniel Turner of Maryville. One sister, Birdell Lentz of Smithville. His father-in-law, Burnice Ray of Smithville. And a brother-in-law, Grady and his wife Charlotte Ray of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Josie Ann Jones

79 year old Josie Ann Jones of Smithville died Sunday at her residence. She was a Baptist and a fourth generation white oak basket maker. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. James Wright, Buford Bain, and Maurice Moore will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Washington and Angie Manus Davis; her husband, Joseph Jones, Sr.; brothers, Dewey, Fred, Thomas, William, and Lonnie Davis; and sisters, Myrtle and Ora Lee Thomas, Hattie Prater, and Stella McBroom. Survivors include three sons, Larry and his wife Peggy Jones of Lebanon, Classie "Bob" Jones of Smithville, and Arlin Jones of Smithville. Three daughters, Glenda Stanley, Clara Murphy, and Sharon Barnett all of Smithville. A sister, Mary Mooneyham of Woodbury. A brother, Jake and his wife Ruth Davis of Woodbury. Twelve grandchildren. Eight great grandchildren. Five sisters-in-law, Lois, Mary, Ida Pearl, Christine and Ruth Davis all of Woodbury. A brother-in-law, Homer McBroom of Woodbury. Several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Thelma Owen

94 year old Thelma Owen of Auburntown died Monday at NHC Health Care Center of Smithville. She was a member of the Auburntown Baptist Church and a homemaker. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Jerry Osborne and Marvin Davenport will officiate and burial will be in the Prosperity Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Ray Owen; her parents, Hatten and Sally Milligan Bryan; two sons, Wendall and Wade Owen; three brothers, Erskin Bryan, Neal Bryan, and Charlie Bryan; and a sister, Amy Hayes. Survivors include two grandchildren, Mike and his wife Louise Owen of Smithville and Donna and her husband Jim Sherrell of Auburntown. Four great grandchildren, Holly and Ashley Owen of Smithville and Michelle and Bryan James of Auburntown. A daughter-in-law, Robbie Owen of Auburntown. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that donations be made to the Auburntown Baptist Church, in lieu of flowers.

Joyce Elaine Kaczmarek

66 year old Joyce Elaine Kaczmarek, a retired factory worker of Smithville, died Monday at her residence. The body has been cremated and no public service will be held. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Onolee Hatch Skidmore; a daughter, Tammy Kaczmarek; and brothers, Jim and Steve Skidmore. Survivors include children, Mary and her husband Mike Streamer of Smithville; Rick and his wife Jenny Kaczmarek of McMinnville; Todd Kaczmarek of Bliss, New York; and Misti Kaczmarek and companion Lamar of Smithville. Grandchildren, Amber Johnson and companion Nathan, Karena Streamer, Shannan Schillaci and companion Jeff of Smithville, Jayson and his wife Amanda Schillaci of Silver Springs, New York; Kayla Spencer of New York and Javontae Martin of Smithville. Three great grandchildren. Two sisters, Annette Kaczmarek of Dale, New York and Anita Burns of Warsaw, New York. A brother, Ron Skidmore of Warsaw, New York. Special friends, Ron and Sandy Carney or Orangeville, New York. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Anita Petway

90 year old Anita Petway of Smithville died Sunday at NHC Health Care Center of Smithville. She was a homemaker and a member of the Smithville Church of Christ. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dan Gulley and Tim Woodward will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burns Petway; parents, Nat and Alta Powell Groom; Five sisters, Mildred Groom, Hazel Sandlin, Avanell Fuson, Claudine Malone, and Edwina Saddler; and a brother, Truitt Groom. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Buins Baughman of Indiana. A sister and brother-in-law, Valeria and John Odum Evins of Liberty. A sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Groom of Liberty, and several nieces and nephews. The family has requested that donations be made to the Smithville Church of Christ and the Smithville Church of Christ Day School, in lieu of flowers. The family has also requested that no food be brought to the funeral home.

Farris Hodges, Jr.

56 year old Farris Hodges, Jr. of Dowelltown died Sunday morning at his residence. He was in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in combat during the Vietnam War. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was also a lifetime member of the D.V.A. and P.V.A. Hodges was a prosthetic product line manager for the Department of Veterans Administration for 27 years. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Dry Creek Baptist Church where he was a member. Donald Owens will officiate and a private burial will follow. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. He is survived by his wife, Elaine Hodges of Dowelltown. Two sons, Farris Preston and his wife Melissa Hodges of Arlington, Tennessee and Christopher Ross Hodges of Germantown, Maryland. A daughter, Jayme Nicole and her husband Daniel Nevels of Memphis. Grandchildren, Mason Christian Hodges and Davis Bryant Nevels. Two brothers, Rodney Barry and his wife Isabel Huffman of Bartlett and David Allen Hodges of Millington. A sister, Debbie D. and her husband Ron Metcalf of Bartlett, Tennessee. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to Lazarus House Hospice in memory of Mr. Hodges.

Aaron Bain Young

92 year old Aaron Bain Young of Elizabethton, Tennessee died Sunday at the Hill View Nursing Home in Elizabethton. He was retired from the State of Tennessee as a gasoline tax examiner and was a member and deacon for many years at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Whorton Springs Cemetery. Mark Bass will officiate. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Bertie Turner Young; his wife, Eva Dean Bain Young; two brothers, Bernice and Austin Young; and a sister, Magdalene Allen. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Songa and Gene Sams of Elizabethton. A son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Kathy Young of Bristol. Four grandchildren and two sisters, Marie Colvert of Smithville and Virginia Gill of Silver Point. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Raymond J. Ross, Jr.

71 year old Raymond J. Ross, Jr. of Kendallville, Indiana died Tuesday at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville, Indiana. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired employee of the CMW Transportation Company with over 20 years of service. He also drove a truck for Eshelman Excavating for 4 years. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Ross residence in Kendallville, Indiana. Brian Koegler will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Ross was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond James, Sr. and Fannie Kathryn Fry Ross and a sister, Marge Schmenk. Survivors include his wife, Twyla Ross of Kendallville. Four sons and daughters-in-law, Karl and Angie Koegler and Scott and Christine Koegler all of Kendallvile, Don and Tricia Koegler of LaPorte, Indiana, and Brian and Leticia Koegler of Smithville. Eleven grandchildren. A sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Richard Ludlow of Schenider, Indiana and several nieces and nephews. The Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville, Indiana is in charge of the arrangements.
