Vickers

39 year old Teresa Ann Gunter Vickers of Woodbury died Tuesday at Middle Tennessee Medical Center of a short illness. She was a housewife and a Cannon County native. The funeral will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Clear Fork Methodist Church where she was a member. Gary Taylor will officiate and burial will be in the Blues Hill Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Ora Lee Gunter. She is survived by her husband, Hank Vickers of Woodbury. One son, Jonathan Matthew Vickers of Woodbury. Three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and JoAnn Gunter of Woodbury, Charlie and Linda Gunter and Larry and Sunter Gunter all of Bradyville. Woodbury Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Hale

85 year old Henry Howard Hale of Chattanooga died Monday at his residence. He was a DeKalb County native, owner and operator of Hales Lawn Service & Landscaping Company until his retirement with over 30 years of service. He was an active member of the Maranatha Baptist Church where he served as Deacon for 20 years. He was a member of the Worley Lodge #601, F&AM, an honorary member of the Mountain City Lodge and the Brainerd Lodge. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Chattanooga Scottish Rite Society and a Shriner with the Alhambra Temple. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. in the Maranatha Baptist Church. Luther Eslinger, Billy Dean, and John Collins will officiate and entombment will be in the Lakewood Memory Gardens, South. His parents were the late Nola Ann Sauls and Tommy Hale. He was also preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Helen Murphy Hale. A daughter, Jeannette Hale Richey; sons and daughters-in-law, Dwayne and Donna Hale and Max and Lila Hale. Grandchildren, Lisa and Christian Bennett, Keith and Tracey Richey, Emily Hale, Amanda and Gabe Smith, Jennifer, Callie, Joy, Howard Hale, all of Chattanooga. Five great grandchildren also survive. Heritage Funeral Home in Chattanooga is in charge of the arrangements. The family requests that contributions be made to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers in honor of Mr. Hale.

Phillips

79 year old Carl Raymond Phillips of Brush Creek died Saturday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Epiphany at 1500 Hickory Ridge Road, Lebanon, Anne McKinne Wolf and Bill Dalglish will officiate and burial will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Brush Creek Cemetery. The body is at Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria where the family will receive friends Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. He is survived by his wife Mary Lois West Phillips. Three children and their spouses, Elizabeth Phillips and Michael Kokkoris of Knoxvillle, Ellen Phillips and Tim Lancaster of Kiowa, Colorado, and Nathan W. and Ann Cameron Phillips of Nashville. Six grandchildren, Eleanor and Margaret Phillips, Mary Ann and David Lancaster, Constantine and Alexandra Kokkoris. A brother and sister-in-law, Robert Doyle and Betty Phillips of Brush Creek. The family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Gordonsville Public Library in lieu of flowers at P.O. Box 217 Gordonsville, 38563. Avant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Miller

80 year old Lois Ruth Miller of Smithville died early Saturday morning at Centennial Medical Center. She was a resident of Maple Court Village in Fairview, a retired secretary with Titanium Metals Corporation, she worked for Justin Potter Library in years past, she was an artist and a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her first and second husbands, Jack Walters and James (Red) Miller and her parents, Samuel and Ethel Higgenbottom Allen. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline and Brent Burkett of Fairview. One step-daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Roger Poe of Ohio. One step-son, Ted Miller of Pennsylvania. Four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and several nieces survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

McGuffie

84 year old Jamie Bing McGuffie, a resident of Murfreesboro and a native of DeKalb County, died Sunday morning of a short illness at NHC Healthcare Center in Smithville. She was a retired school teacher, a member of the Smithville Church of Christ, and a member of the Murfreesboro and Smithville Senior Citizens. The funeral will be Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Town Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam James and Clara Hicks Bing; her husband, William Howard McGuffie; a brother, Jack Bing; and a sister, Wilma Hunt. She is survived by a daughter, Carol McGuffie of Murfreesboro. Two grandchildren, Kristy Roberts of Christiana and Todd Kinsey of Honolulu, Hawaii. Four great grandchildren, Jessica and Taisha Roberts of Christiana and Louisa Marie and Robbie Kinsey both of Honolulu, Hawaii. A sister, Madeline Haley of Smithville. A brother, Spencer Bing of Plantation, Florida. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m.

Hill

78 year old Earl Richard Hill of McMinnville died Friday at the emergency room of River Park Hospital in McMinnville of a sudden illness. He was a native of Hillsdale, Illinois, a self-employed dental lab worker, and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Claude Arlington Hill and Willie McAllister. Survivors include his wife, Billie Hill of McMinnville. Two sons, Tom Hill of Smithville, and Randy Hill of Grafeweir, Germany. Two grandchildren, Rebecca Hill and David Hill, both of Smithville. Two brothers, Harry Hill of Columbus, Georgia, and Richard Hill of Chattanooga. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family only. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Warren County Humane Society. High Funeral Home of McMinnville in charge of the arrangements.

Parker

65 year old Buddy Parker of Smithville died Monday night at Baptist Hospital in Nashville of a short illness. He was the owner of Smithville Builder's Supply since 1962, director of the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency, U.S. Army Veteran, member of the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, Smithville Alderman from 1974 to 1978, member of Liberty Lodge #77, member of the Smithville Jaycees, Past Chairman of the 911 Board, member of the Scottish Rite, and a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Don Davidson and Donald Owens will officiate and entombment will be at DeKalb Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A Masonic Service will be held Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Samuel and Annie Bell Curtis Parker. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Parker of Smithville. A son and daughter-in-law, Charlie and Joy Parker of Smithville. Three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sara Jane Parker, Sandy and Brent Russell, and Shelby and Joey Reeder all of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Chris and Erik Russell, Paige Reeder, Claire Garrett, and Katie Bell Parker. A sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Donald Owens of Lebanon. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Tuesday until 9:00 p.m., Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. The Parker family has requested that donations be made to the Smithville First Baptist Church New Building Fund in memory of Buddy, in lieu of flowers.

McCulloch

71 year old Ed Carson McCulloch of West Main Street, Alexandria died at his home Sunday. McCulloch formerly operated Thorne-McCulloch Auto Sales. He was born in Wilson County and he was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown. Donald Owens will officiate and burial will be in the Flatwood Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Sullivan McCulloch and Lena Bond McCulloch; a brother, Benny McCulloch; and a son, Jackie Grandstaff. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Garrison McCulloch. Two sons and daughters-in-law, John Edward and Darlene McCulloch of Lebanon and Phillip and Alice McCulloch of Florida. Two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Nathan Cox and Debbie and Gary Jones all of Lebanon. Nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. One brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Connie McCulloch of Lebanon. A sister, Joan Parr of Lebanon. A brother-in-law and his wife, Hoyte and Lucille Garrison of Alexandria. Hunter Funeral Home in Watertown is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral.

Puckett

67 year old Mary Donavee Harris Puckett of Peeled Chestnut Lane, Sparta died Monday morning at White County Hospital. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta and burial will be in the Plainview cemetery at Cassville. She is survived by her husband, Morris Lee Puckett of Sparta. Two daughters, Nena Daily and her husband, Dan of Kansas City, Kansas and Tina Puckett of Sparta. Three grandchildren, Aaron Puckett, Kaitlin Daily, and Samuel Daily. Three sisters, Alvaree Holland, Hazel Felts, and Louise Henderson all of Sparta. Hunter Funeral Home in Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.

Chalk

49 year old Penny Denise Chalk of Dowelltown died Tuesday at her residence of an extended illness. She was a Hypnotherapist. She is survived by her husband, Tony Chalk of Dowelltown. Two brothers, Tony Herbst of Cleveland, Ohio and Lee Stoops of Bakersfield, California. One sister, Karen Hair of New Jersey. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The body has been cremated therefore no service will be held for Mrs. Chalk.
