T.J. Young

86 year old T.J. Young of Smithville died Tuesday at his residence. He was a member of the Pomeroy Chapel Brethren in Christ, a retired truck driver, and a member of Teamsters Union Local 327. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. James Allen and Larry Steffee will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.; Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Athelene Hullett Young and parents, Nathaniel and Ida Jane Bates Young. Survivors include two children, Jackie and wife Patsy Young and Larry and wife Janie Evans all of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Neal Young of Smithville, Amanda and husband Brad Townsend of Hillsboro, Brad and wife Rhonica Evans of Smithville, Garry Evans of Texas, and Kerry and husband Stephen Gunter of California. Five great grandchildren, Jordan, Jacob, and Breanna Townsend and Brady and Neely Evans. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert Bratten Bailiff

88 year old Robert Bratten Bailiff of Dowelltown died Tuesday at NHC Healthcare Center. He was a member and deacon of the Dowelltown Baptist Church. Bailiff was also a factory worker, farmer, and former owner of the Dowelltown Cash Market. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale and Wayne Malone will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Bailiff was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Nesmith and Fannie Gertrude Huggins Bailiff; his wife, Louise Gibbs Bailiff; grandchildren, Jeff and Tara Frazier; daughter-in-law, Joyce Bailiff; son-in-law, Henry Frazier; and a brother, Fuson Bailiff. Survivors include four children, Bobbie and husband Harold Lanier of Mount Juliet, Robert Bratten Bailiff, Jr. of Alexandria, Ann and husband Garlon Frazier of Liberty, and Doris and husband Edward James of Liberty. Ten grandchildren, Kaye Lytle, Bob Lanier, June Keith, Gerald Bailiff, Ricky Bailiff, Tiwanda Hall, Garnette Taylor, Denise Griffith, Kerri Wiser, and Steven Frazier. Sixteen great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, and a nephew, Gid Bailiff of Woodbury. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Billy Wayne Malone

78 year old Billy Wayne Malone of Dowelltown died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was affiliated with the Baptist Church. Malone was a Mason, member of DeKalb Lodge #358, construction/concrete worker, and an employee at the Liberty convenience site. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mike Clayborn, Eric Woods, Johnathon Willoughby, and Andy Malone will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. A Masonic service will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. Malone was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Evie Ray Parkerson Malone; a grandson, Cody Ray; granddaughter, Dana Malone; two infant grandchildren; brothers, Robert Don and Roy Malone; and a sister, Frances Moss. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty Jean Malone of Dowelltown. Children, Wayne and wife Doris Malone and Donna Willoughby all of Dowelltown and Lisa and husband Kenneth Ray of Smithville. Six grandchildren, Cindy and husband John Armour, Andy and wife Sarah Malone, Johnathon and wife Rena Willoughby, Jessie Willoughby, and Joe and Johnny Ray. Great grandchildren, Brittney and husband Nathan Gard, Nathan Armour, Kelly Armour, Jathan and Lydia Willoughby, and Preston Ray. Great great grandchildren, McKinley and Logan Gard. Sisters, Jimmie and husband David Carter of Liberty and Debbie and husband Danny Bishop of Liberty .DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Velma McGuire

87 year old Velma McGuire of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church for almost 60 years. McGuire was also a retired bank teller and a shirt factory worker. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mark Bass and Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Elizabeth Estep; her husband, Dan McGuire; a sister, Inez Young; and a brother, Howard Estep. Survivors include two children, Peggy and husband Brownie Barnes and Danny McGuire and companion Mary Hale of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Jeff, Darrin, and Eric Barnes, Angie Magnuson, and April Hillis. Twelve great grandchildren, Brittney, Cole, Brandon, and Blake Barnes, Colby, Hunter, and Tyler Magnuson, Mark and Michelle McGuire, Tony Johnson, Sky Tucker, and Anakin Hillis. Great great granddaughter, Brooklyn Ponder. Sisters, Ada Witt of Corbin, Kentucky; Jeanette Sharp of Elkton, Kentucky, Bena Mae Seivers of Clinton, Pat O'Neal of Lexington, Kentucky; and Wanda Steele of Corbin, Kentucky. A brother, Don Estep of Corbin, Kentucky. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arangements. The family asks that donations be made to the Lighthouse Christian Camp or to the charity of your choice, in addition to flowers.

Elmer Bates

87 year old Elmer Bates of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was retired from General Motors and a member of the Covenant Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Thomason will officiate and burial will be in the Bates Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Bates was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Bates of Nashville and Darryl and Betty Clark of Kentucky. One granddaughter, Brenda and husband Ross Cunningham of Kentucky. Two great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Garrett Cunningham and special friend, Jean Love of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Grady Thurman

86 year old Grady Thurman of Smithville died Tuesday at his residence. He was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ, a retired construction worker, a farmer, and an employee of Carrier. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 a.m. DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Tim Woodward and Dan Gulley will officiate and burial will be in the Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Thurman was preceded in death by his parents, William Alonzo and Birchie Ann Vaughn Thurman; his wife, Edith Jo Thurman; a daughter, Sandra Sue Thurman; three sisters, Lorrine Foutch, Myrtle Gilam, Nadine Lawrence; and a nephew, Thomas Vaughn. Survivors include a son, William Moss Thurman of Cookeville. A nephew, David "Boxie" Foutch of Smithville. Special niece and nephew, Deborah Goodwin and Carl Lee Webb of Smithville. Special family, Melvin, Teresa, Karley, Carl, Robin, Justin, Mary, and Brayden Knowles; and special friend, Jean Love. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Frank Cantrell

78 year old Frank Cantrell of Dowelltown died Monday at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville. He was a member of the People's Pentecostal Church, a Mason, member of the Liberty Lodge #77, and he worked in the shoe factory. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel.. Robert Presley and Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Beulah Ponder Cantrell; a son, Danny Cantrell; granddaughter, Stephanie Cantrell; brothers, Lawrence and Bill Cantrell; and a sister, Nell Conley. Cantrell is survived by his wife, Neodia Cantrell of Dowelltown. A son, Dwight and wife Carol Cantrell of Pikeville. Step-son, Donald and wife Tammy Cantrell of Dowelltown. Six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and one step great granddaughter. Two sisters, Ruth Prinzivalli and Ruby Ballard both of Smithville; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews also survive. Felicia Ann Murphy

32 year old Felicia Ann Murphy of Liberty died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital E. R. A memorial service will be held Friday at 6:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. A homemaker, Murphy was preceded in death by her parents, Jeff Murphy and Kimberly McCowan, and grandparents, Clyde and Ruby McCowan and "Doc" and Kathleen Murphy. She is survived by three children, Katelyn Walz, Carrie and Haley Carroll, all of Smithville; sister, Kayla Adams of Smithville; brother, Heath and wife Lindsay Murphy of Smithville; friend, Jamie Carroll of Smithville. Lemuel L. Beene

73 year old Lemuel L. Beene of Liberty died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was born in Dickson County and was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Charlotte, TN. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church in Charlotte with burial in Liberty cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at Liberty U.M.C. in Charlotte, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Lemuel Beene and Ailene Southerland Beene, and a sister, Sue Vaughn. He is survived by a daughter, Tina and husband Gary Johnson of Napierville, Illinois; grandchildren, Ashley Johnson and Dillon and wife Amber Johnson of Illinois; brother, Edward Beene of Liberty, and sister, Pat Underwood of Lebanon. A nephew, Joseph and wife Mary Underwood of Nashville; niece, Courtney Vaughn of Vanleer. Great-nephew George Underwood of Nashville.

Freddie Wayne Maxwell

Funeral services for 60 year old Freddy Wayne Maxwell of Cookeville will be held on Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with burial in the Maynard Cemetery. Myron Greer will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 A.M. till time of the services.
Maxwell died Saturday at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Putnam Co., TN to the late Harold (Pood) and Katie Gambrell Maxwell. Freddy was a Farmer and Logger.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law: Greg & Rachael Maxwell of Cookeville. Two daughters and a son-in-law, Marti Maxwell of Cookeville and Natasha and Shayne Judkins of Smithville. Mother of his children: Patricia Maxwell of Cookeville. Two Brothers and a sisters-in-law, Jimmy and Wanda Maxwell of Silver Point and Mike and Kim Maxwell of Baxter. A sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Ronnie Anderson of Cookeville. Grandchildren: Allyson Judkins, Will Judkins, Katelyn Maxwell, and Brookelyn Maxwell. Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by:
