Velma McGuire

87 year old Velma McGuire of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church for almost 60 years. McGuire was also a retired bank teller and a shirt factory worker. The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mark Bass and Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hobert and Elizabeth Estep; her husband, Dan McGuire; a sister, Inez Young; and a brother, Howard Estep. Survivors include two children, Peggy and husband Brownie Barnes and Danny McGuire and companion Mary Hale of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Jeff, Darrin, and Eric Barnes, Angie Magnuson, and April Hillis. Twelve great grandchildren, Brittney, Cole, Brandon, and Blake Barnes, Colby, Hunter, and Tyler Magnuson, Mark and Michelle McGuire, Tony Johnson, Sky Tucker, and Anakin Hillis. Great great granddaughter, Brooklyn Ponder. Sisters, Ada Witt of Corbin, Kentucky; Jeanette Sharp of Elkton, Kentucky, Bena Mae Seivers of Clinton, Pat O'Neal of Lexington, Kentucky; and Wanda Steele of Corbin, Kentucky. A brother, Don Estep of Corbin, Kentucky. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arangements. The family asks that donations be made to the Lighthouse Christian Camp or to the charity of your choice, in addition to flowers.

Elmer Bates

87 year old Elmer Bates of Smithville died Monday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was retired from General Motors and a member of the Covenant Baptist Church. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bobby Thomason will officiate and burial will be in the Bates Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Bates was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Bates of Nashville and Darryl and Betty Clark of Kentucky. One granddaughter, Brenda and husband Ross Cunningham of Kentucky. Two great grandchildren, Brooklyn and Garrett Cunningham and special friend, Jean Love of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Leslie Nicole Greene Lytle

33 year old Leslie Nicole Greene Lytle of McMinnville died Monday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. She was born in Murfreesboro, formerly worked as a E-911 dispatcher for Warren and DeKalb Counties, and attended Cornerstone Baptist Church. Lytle was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather Oscar Manning and paternal grandparents Earl Greene and Ethel Greene Cantrell.
Survivors include her husband Russell Lytle, son Hayden Manning Lytle, daughter Kennedy Eden Jade Lytle, parents Perry and Rita Greene all of McMinnville; sister, Lindsey Lynese Greene, Manchester; maternal grandmother Linda Manning of Smithville; mother-in-law Annie Moffitt and husband David, McMinnville; father-in-law David Lytle of McMinnville; and special uncle and aunt Earline and Jenean Bain of Smithville. Other cousins, aunts, uncles, family members and friends also survive.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel.. Phillip Rowland will officiate. Burial will follow at the Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M. and again Wednesday from 9 A.M. until 1 P.M. at McMinnville Funeral Home.

Sally Rose McClain

68 year old Sally Rose McClain of Cookeville died Saturday at NHC of Smithville. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Paran Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from noon until the service. She is survived by her husband, Willard McClain; two sons, Gardner and Daniel McClain; a brother, Porter Webb; and three sisters, Mildred Turner, Jo Evans, and Milus Barrett. The Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtis Puckett Winton

91 year old Myrtis Puckett Winton of Smithville died Sunday at NHC Healthcare Center. She was a nurse and a member of the Buckner's Chapel United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Robin Phillips will officiate and burial will be in the Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ollie Pack Moore; two husbands, Houston Puckett and Jack Winton; a son, Marvin Puckett; a brother, Jim Moore, Jr.; and a sister, Mable Hill Duke. Survivors include two children, Darwin and wife Delores Puckett of Lebanon and Brenda and husband Wayne Vanderpool of Smithville. Daughter-in-law, Beth Puckett of Smithville. A step-daughter, Beth Bagwell of California. Six grandchildren, Reed Vanderpool, Melissa Wallace, Naith Puckett, Shea Puckett, Amy Cushing, and Amanda Puckett. Four great grandchildren, Emily, Harper, Liam Wallace, and Carolina Cushing. A brother, Kenneth and wife Dorla Moore of Dowelltown. Sister-in-law, Sara Moore of Woodbury. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Bessie Lee Taylor Driver

85 year old Bessie Lee Taylor Driver of Liberty died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a homemaker, member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church and she attended the Brush Creek United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Jerry Driver will officiate and burial will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Madison and Mary Alice Martin Taylor; husband, Avin Driver; son, Charles Driver; a great grandson, Jimmy Lee Gibbs; two sons-in-law, Jimmy Hullett and Bobby Jackson; two brothers, Johnny Taylor and James Taylor; and a sister, Inez Holland. Survivors include eight children, Alice Hullett of Dowelltown, Wayne and wife Donna Driver of Alexandria, James and wife Donna Driver of Dagsboro Delaware; Marie and husband Bo Tyree of Watertown; Terri Dodd of Dowelltown, Cindy and husband David Avera of Alexandria, Helen and husband David Bennett of Antioch, Tennessee and Linda Jackson of Smyrna. Seventeen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Chester Ray Donn

81 year old Chester Ray Donn of Smithville died Wednesday at the emergency room of DeKalb Community Hospital. He was in the U.S. Army having served during the Korean conflict. He also did nursery work. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Steve Officer will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. Donn was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Amelia Birkholz Donn; a son, Bruce Chester Donn; and brothers, Ervin, Bernard, and Rowland Donn. He is survived by his companion of 34 years, Faye Jennings of Smithville. A son, Michael and wife Susan Donn of California. A daughter, Kathleen Donn of Michigan.. Grandchildren, Gretchen Breen, Ian and wife Emily Donn, Matthew and wife Kyla Donn, Shanna Donn, Zachary Donn, and Mary Frances and Danielle Knowles. Great granddaughter, Lily Breen. Sisters, Vera and husband Floyd Koontz and Dorothy Foster all of Michigan. Brothers, Walter and wife Delores Donn of Florida, John and wife Ethel Donn of Michigan. Many nieces and nephews survive along with special friends, Danny and Kathy Knowles, Robert and Helen Moore, and Jim and Donna Stapp. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Jeanette Cripps Dodson

71 year old Jeanette Cripps Dodson of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a factory worker having formerly worked at Westinghouse and a member of Bright Hill United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. John Carpenter and Tim Woodward will officiate with burial in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 3:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Tabitha Danielle Dodson; parents, Johnie Roscoe, Sr. and Potter Loren Taylor Cripps; grandparents, Ada Pack and Robert Taylor and Martha and Sam Cripps; two brothers, Jerry and James "Curly" Cripps, and two sisters-in-law, Brenda and Chloa Cripps. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Glenn Dodson of Smithville, Two sisters, Judy and husband M.B. Silcox of Smithville and Brenda and husband John Arledge of Centertown. Two brothers, Johnnie, Jr.

Glen Earl Bell

70 year old Glen Earl Bell of McMinnville, TN, (Highland Community) died Monday at his residence. He was born in Warren County, was retired from the maintenance department with Warren County School System, and job foreman with B & R Heating & Air, and a member of Friendship The Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Bell was preceded in death by parents Leighman and Elsie Robinson Bell.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years Sue Martin Bell, their children Martin (Lisa) Bell, Deanna (Jeffery C.) Smith, and Mendie (Brent) Craven, grandchildren David Craven, Brynn Craven, and Marlee Smith, brothers Billy (Mary) Bell, Danny (Brenda) Bell, sister-in-law and husband Nadean (Kenneth) Brown, brothers-in-law & wives Doug (Carol) Martin, Ollis (Mary Frances) Martin, Otis (Sylvia) Martin, Jr. and Haskell Martin. Many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends also survive.
The funeral service will be at 2 P.M. Thursday at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel. Darrell Cantrell, Steve Breedlove, Martin Bell, Brent Craven, Kenneth Brown, Tim Pack, Jason Brown, and David Kilgore will officiate. Interment will follow at Webb Cemetery. The Bell Family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 P.M. until 9 P.M. and again Thursday from 10 A.M. until 2 P.M. at the parlors of McMinnville Funeral Home.

Kenneth Eugene Arnold

70 year old Kenneth Eugene Arnold of Smithville died Saturday at his residence. The funeral will be at DeKalb Funeral Chapel and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Time of the funeral and visitation will be announced later. Brad Driver, Pam Baines, and Michael Hale will officiate. Arnold was a member of the Indian Creek Missionary Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was also a retired factory worker. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Eunie Pearl Williams Arnold; a brother, Vestrell Arnold; and a sister, Dora Lawson. Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Barbara Dean Arnold of Smithville. A brother, Jimmy A. and wife Mildred Arnold of Smithville. A sister, Wilma Joan and husband George Hamilton of Smithville. Nieces, Opal Faye Glover, Peggy and husband Marty Merriman, and Pam and husband Michael Baines. Nephews, Ronnie and wife Pat Arnold, Charles Wayne Arnold, Ricky Lynn Arnold, and Greg Driver of Smithville. Great nephew, Brad Driver and Michael Paul White. Great niece, Emily Linder. Many other great nieces and nephews, Sister-in-law, Oceia Marie Arnold of Smithville. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Jerry Spurlock of Smithville, Anna Ruth and Jack Chidester of Nashville, and Evie Hill of Smithville and many other family and friends.
