Gail Negoshian Estes

60 year old Gail Negoshian Estes of Murfreesboro died Monday after a fierce battle with cancer. She was a native of Needham, MA. and the daughter of the late Malcolm and Anne Simonian Negoshian. She was also preceded in death by her son, Zachary Estes. She is survived by her husband, David Estes, son, Zane Estes, daughter, Zandra McKenzie and her husband, Zack; Granddaughters, Aerianna and Scarlett; brothers, Malcolm and Jack Negoshian, and sister, Nancy Negoshian. Woodfin Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Terry Lee Brown

61 year old Terry Lee Brown of Dowelltown died Thursday at his residence. He was a truck driver and a welder. Brown was a U.S. Army Veteran. Mr. Brown's request was to be cremated. There will be no visitation or services held. Brown was preceded in death by his father, Martin J. Brown. He is survived by his mother, Sarah J. Etty of Apopka, Florida. A sister, Betty L. Brown Sumner of Apopka, Florida. Companion Judy Gentry of Smithville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Louelle Taylor

92 year old Louelle Taylor of Smithville died Sunday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired Smithville shirt factory employee and a member of the Snow Hill Baptist Church. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home at which time the body will be taken to DeKalb Memorial Gardens for the graveside service. She was preceded in death by her father, Leslie Dee Bailiff; mother, Amanda Helen Tramel Bailiff; husband, Alvie Taylor; two sisters, Mairene Keith and Talpha Moore; a brother, Charlie Bailiff; and a niece Sarah Tramel. Survivors include three daughters, Joyce and husband Charlie Stanley of Kentucky, Janis and husband Steve Anderson of Nashville, and Shirley Taylor of Murfreesboro. Three grandchildren, Holly Moberly of Kentucky, Sara Donahoe of Nashville, and Sam Stanley of Indiana. Seven great grandchildren, Jacob, Carter, and Rachel Moberly, Taylor and Andy Donahoe, Eli Stanley, and new baby Stanley. Special nephew, Kenneth Tramel of Smithville. Great nieces, Jennifer Tramel of Smithville, Jill Tramel of California, and Beth Strode of Murfreesboro. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Butler Speakman

75 year old Evelyn Butler Speakman of Smithville died Friday at St. Thomas Hospital West in Nashville. She was a member of the Covenant Baptist Church and a retired Food Service Supervisor at Tennessee Tech University. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bobby Thomason will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Jenny Lou Butler; her husband, Ronnie Speakman; a daughter, Mary Duke; and a granddaughter, Amanda Duke. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy and her husband Dwayne Ward of Smithville. A son, David and wife Julie Speakman of Smithville. Grandson, Chris and his wife Trista Ward of Lebanon. Granddaughter, Savannah Speakman of Beech Grove. Three great grandchildren, Lilly, Aiden, and Addison of Lebanon. Dear friends, Florence Redmon and Wanda Knox and special neighbor Haskel Martin. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Samantha Jones Hale

92 year old Samantha Jones Hale of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a Baptist and a retired factory worker. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale and Don Kelly will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Venus A. and Ollie Hendrix Jones; husband, Howard Hale; a son, Carl Hale; three sisters, Christine Chapman, Sarah Lynch, and Ovie Hale; and two brothers, Brown Jones and J.B. Jones. Survivors include three children, Harold and wife Barbara Hale of Smithville, Jimmy and wife Jacque Hale of the Keltonburg Community, and Helen and husband Joe Taylor of Smithville. Grandchildren, Craig and wife Patricia Hale, Crystal Chalfant, Tyson Scott Hale, Audrey Leighton Hale and fiancé Cory Adams, and Becky and husband Mike Crocker. Great grandchildren, Christian and husband Charles Cox, Nicholas Hale, Elizabaeth Chalfant, Andrew Blake Hale, Micha Nicole Hale, and Byron Wilson. Three great great grandchildren, several loving nieces and nephews, and special caregivers Angela Davis, Cathy Clayton, and Paulette Duggin. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Sue Gora

80 year old Betty Sue Gora of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired factory worker. A memorial service will be Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at the Dowelltown United Methodist Church where she was a member. Matt Long will officiate. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Luck and Jessie Hattie Ervin Hill; husband, Rodney Hugo Gora; brothers, Clarence Ervin, Fred, Jack, and I.B. Hill; and sisters, Julia Lyle and Nellie Hill. Survivors include three children, Gaylon Gentry and wife Tammy Gora, Georgette Gora and Jeff Shelton, Rodney Hugo, II and wife Tiffany Gora all of Smithville. Grandchildren, Sasha Covington, Natasha Cervenka, Michael Cervenka, Marissa Tramel, Derek Austin Gora, Jacob Andrew Gora and Malcolm Alexander Gora. Great granddaughter, Olivia Grace Tramel. A sister, Bobbie Pack of Smithville. A brother, Billy Joe Hill of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews. Brothers-in-law, Lewis Gora of Florida and George Gora of Crossville. Sisters-in-law, Helen Taylor of Smithville, Barbara Carter of Smithville, and Berta Merroli of Pennsylvania. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Katherine Watson

85 year old Katherine Watson of Smithville died Thursday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired factory worker and a member of the Walker Memorial Baptist Church in Franklin. Ms. Watson's request was to be cremated. Burial will be in Frazeysburg, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Joseph Watson; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Watson; a son, Charles Allen Watson; and a daughter, Laura K. Valentine. Survivors include two children, Robert E. Watson of New Lexington, Ohio and Joseph E. Watson and Ruth Nokes of Baxter. Grandchildren, Raymond Lynch, Sr., Tina "Lynch" Chunn, Wayne Watson, Josh Watson, and Stacy Watson. Great grandchildren, James D. Jr. and Amanda Wiley, Kerry D. Wiley, Kayla N. Lynch, Anthony P. Lynch, Gabrielle Hinojosa, Cayden Hinojosa, Austin Hinojosa, Raymond J. Lynch, Jr, and Braden Watson. Great great grandchildren, McKinley Wiley, Marcel Hayes, James D. Wiley, III, and Baby Lillian. Stella Mae Clemons

Funeral services for 83 year old Stella Mae Clemons of Cookeville will be held at 2pm Friday from the chapel of Presley Funeral Home with Bro. Mike Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows cemetery in Baxter.
The family will receive friends from 5-9pm on Thursday and again on Friday from 10am until the hour of the services at the funeral home.
Mrs. Clemons passed away on Tuesday morning, September 17, 2013 in NHC Health Care in Sparta.
She was born on June 17, 1930 in Putnam Co. to the late Haskell and Flossie Pippin Dyer.
Mrs. Clemons was of the Church of Christ faith and was affiliated with Double Springs Church of Christ.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Wanda Jane Kelly of Clarkrange, TN and Mary Sue Hillis and husband Steve of Rock Island, TN; 3 daughters-in-law, Linda Clemons of Alexandria, Tn, Lynda Clemons of Nashville, TN and Sue Konko Clemons of Florida; 5 sisters, Gladys Chaffin and Ella Chaffin of Cookeville, TN, Altie Knowles, Linda Brown and Reba Turner of Smithville, TN; brother, Raymond Dyer of Smithville; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and her best friends, Lois and Claude Maxwell.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Clemons; 4 sons, Carroll, James, Darrell and Ronnie Clemons; and 5 brothers, William, Hubert, Gordon, Franklin and Earl Dyer.

James M. “Jimmy” Ervin

85 year old James M. “Jimmy” Ervin of Smithville died Thursday after a brief illness of cancer. He was born in Smithville to the late Wilson and Maggie Ervin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Ervin and Glenn Ervin. He graduated from DeKalb County High School in 1946. Ervin served in the U. S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He was a Shriner in the Masonic Lodge. He was owner of Ervin Service Station for thirty years. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Spencer Ervin of Smithville; daughters, Jane Parsley (Vester) of Smithville and Alice Moseley (Aubrey) of Murfreesboro. He is also survived by five grandchildren; John Parsley of Smithville, Rebecca Skipworth (Shane) of Huntsville, AL, Sarah Parsley, Julie Wolfe (Tony) and Rachel Peters (Kyle) of Murfreesboro; one great grandson, Mason Peters; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Ervin and Jeannette Ervin. Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. The service will follow beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Mark Bass and Dr. Bill Palmiter officiating. Burial will be at DeKalb Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church or American Cancer Society. A special thank you to Dr. J. C. Wall and the staff at NHC for the excellent care Jimmy received. The family was truly blessed to have such wonderful people working with him and we will always be grateful for the phenomenal health care that was provided with warmth and loving care.
