James Milton Suffridge
81 year old James Milton Suffridge of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a member of the Mount Herman Baptist Church and was retired from Better Built Aluminum. He had also been a Mason since 1960 and was a Veteran of the Air Force. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. David Carden and Johnathon Willoughby will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. A Masonic Service will be Sunday at 7:00 p.m.. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. Suffridge was preceded in death by his parents, Millard Harrison and Isabella Suffridge; two sisters, Lucille Baker and Frances Pervical; four brothers, Bill, Carl, Tracy, and Rosco Suffridge. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mildred Hendrix Suffridge of Smithville. Three daughters, Jimmie and husband Mike Webb of McMinnville, Teresa Powell of Florida and Tyroma and husband David Rigsby of Lebanon. Eight grandchildren, Dara and Kenny Webb Johnson of McMinnville, Jashon and Alissa Mills of Texas, Felicia and Brian Epps of Florida and Hayden, Bella, Eden, Karsen, and Farrah Rigsby of Lebanon. Four great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. One sister, Freda and husband Dr. Miles Donaldson of Indiana. Joyce Atnip Ratliff
82 year old Joyce Atnip Ratliff of Rushville, Indiana died Saturday at Heritage House Healthcare in Connersville, Indiana. For a number of years she was a telephone operator in Tennessee. The funeral will be Saturday, July 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Marty Hensley will officiate and burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Ratliff; parents, Russell and Cora Ferrell Atnip. A son, Grady A. Ratliff, Jr. A brother, Gene Atnip. A sister, Bessie Wagnor and two great grandchildren, Keilin and Carson Hensley. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Hensley and her husband, Tommy of Sparta. Her daughter-in-law, Linda Ratliff of Connersville. 78 year old Virginia Norabelle Tuttle Hesson of Smithville, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at the NHC HealthCare Center in Smithville. She was born September 7, 1935 to her parents, the late John Wesley and Lorene Slayton Tuttle, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 3 children, Jenny Marmon, David Allen Hesson, Sr., and Thomas Richard Hesson; 1 brother, John Wesley Tuttle, Jr.; 2 sisters, Peggy Lorene Silcox and Maggie Pearl Gray; 2 grandsons, Jimmy and Bobby Alred. Ms. Virginia attended the House of Prayer and worked in the restaurant business for many years. She is survived by 1 daughter, Jo Alred of Old Hickory; granddaughter and caregiver, April (Martin) Coronado of Smithville; grandchildren, Gina Goodwin, Tanya Fox, Jerry Lynn Lowe, Thomas, Daniel, and Greg Hesson all of Cleveland, David (Kathy) Hesson of Murfreesboro, James Hesson of Smithville, Phillip Alred of Old Hickory; 2 sisters, Louise (Larry) Wilkes of Madison and Earlene Flatt of Murfreesboro; great-granddaughter and caregiver, Alissya Coronado; Several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Alfred Warren Pistole, Sr.
93 year old Alfred Warren Pistole, Sr. of Franklin and formerly of Liberty died at his residence Thursday. He was a retired minister, teacher and foreign missionary. Pistole was a retired Southern minister who attended the Nest Church in Franklin. He was a World War II Navy veteran. The funeral will be Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. Brett Stewart and Jim Frazier will officiate and burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Lee Pistole and Intha Sissom and siblings, Jimmy, Vesper, and Mary Charles. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Virginia Pistole. 71 year old Marie Wilson of Smithville died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a retired nurse at DeKalb Community Hospital. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Lucille Miller Certain; two brothers, Lynn and Danny Certain; and a sister, Lois Ann Puckett. Wilson is survived by two sons, Mark and Susan Wilson and Kevin and Mary Wilson all of Smithville. Five grandchildren, Heather Dowell of Dowelltown, Amanda Woodruff of Murfreesboro, Jeanna Wilson of Dowelltown, Daniel Wilson of Smithville, and Byron Wilson. Eight great grandchildren. One brother, James Certain of Dibrell. Two sisters, Nettie Lou Judkins and Charlene Poss of Smithville. One sister-in-law, Betty Certain of Smithville and several nieces and nephews. David Carl "Big Dave" Redmon
David Carl "Big Dave" Redmon age 73 of Smithville, passed away Monday morning at his residence. He was born September 26, 1941 to his parents, the late Joseph Redmon and Stella Moore Redmon Clark. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Ray Redmon; step-father, George Clark; sisters, Judy Minnear, Virginia Herron, Ida Mai Benoitt; brother, Dwight Redmon. He attended the Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Cookeville. David was retired from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and was a retired nurseryman. Survivors include his daughter, Wetonia "Sissy" Redmon of Smithville; 3 grandchildren, Bradley (Misty) Redmon, Ashley Redmon (Gary) Murray, Hailey Danielle Redmon; 6great-grandchildren, Michael White, Chrissy White, Emmalee Redmon, Elijah Redmon, Ezraya Gingerich, Logan David Murray; 2 brothers, J.R. Redmon and Dwayne Redmon both of Smithville; special friends, Mary Huffines and William Morris. Funeral services will be conducted 2PM Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at DeKalb Funeral Chapel with Bro. Michael Hale officiating and burial to follow in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday 4PM until 8PM and Wednesday 10AM until the time of the service at 2. 79 year old Dorothy Ward Turner of Smithville died Monday. She was a member of the Temple Baptist Church and was a retired owner and operator of Sportsman Restaurant. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Eugene Adkins will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos and Ruth Murphy Ward. Survivors include her husband, Arvid Turner of Smithville. Two daughters, Sue and Ronnie Cook of Smithville and Brenda and Jeff Safranik of Wisconsin. Three sons, Tim Mullins of Smithville, J.R. and Loretta Mullins of McMinnville, and Dylan Roller of Smithville. Lieutenant Colonel Glen L. Nichols, Sr.
92 year old Lieutenant Colonel Glen L. Nichols, Sr., U.S. Army Retired of Smithville died early Sunday morning at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro. He was an Elder for over 30 years at the Smithville Church of Christ and a retired General Contractor.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at the Smithville Church of Christ. Dan Gulley and Ralph Vaughn will officiate. Burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 1:00 p.m. at the Smithville Church of Christ.
Colonel Nichols, a 25 year veteran of the United States Army, was born and reared in Algood, a part of neighboring Putnam County. In February 1941, he was part of the Tennessee Army National Guard based in Cookeville and said unit was soon called into WWII. He attended Officer Candidate School and became Second Lieutenant and later becoming First Lieutenant. Following the War, he returned to the Volunteer State to further his education at Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville. While there, he met a young lady whom he described as "the prettiest girl on campus". Marie Patterson from Smithville would later become Mrs. Glen Nichols and the mother to Glen, Jr. and Sharon. He then attended American University in Washington where he received a Masters Degree. During this time, Officer Nichols remained in the Army Reserve. Major Nichols' unit was activated in 1947 and shipped to Japan. Later our country was drawn into the Korean War, where he commanded an artillery unit. Following a quarter-century of military service, Colonel Glen Nichols, Sr. taught business and economics at his alma mater, Tennessee Tech University. He also enjoyed the building trade, had his own construction company and left his mark on several significant properties in the Middle Tennessee area. He also had a distinguished career with the Model Cities program.
Mr. Nichols was one of the seven original founders of the Smithville-DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce over 50 years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Cora Etta Lee Nichols and mother of his children, Marie Patterson Nichols; a sister, Reba Stamps; and a brother, Robert Nichols.
Nichols is survived by his wife, LaMurle Jarrett Parker Nichols of Smithville. One son, Glen, Jr. and Margaret Nichols and a daughter, Sharon and Dale Beaty all of Smithville. Two stepdaughters, Mimi Bowling of Mt. Juliet and Lynn Fann of Texas. Ten grandchildren, Jennifer and Brian Light of Knoxville, Amanda Mathis and Abby Evans of Smithville, Kerri and Adam Hudson of Nashville, Patterson and Brad Wilson of Knoxville, Lori and David Purnell of Lebanon, Josh and Wendy Bowling of Nashville, Kelly and Marco Marcini of Italy, Amy and Mark Strauss and Ben and Marissa Fann all of Texas, and Michael and Monica Beaty of McMinnville. Fifteen great grandchildren. Two brothers, John Thomas and Dorothy Nichols and Earl Young Nichols all of Algood. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Louis Fuson
85 year old Louis Fuson of Liberty died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a DeKalb County native, a farmer, and a founding deacon of the Faith Congregational Methodist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Faith Congregational Methodist Church. Freddie Savage and Dennis Campbell will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Anderson Funeral Home and from noon until the service at the church. Fuson was preceded in death by his parents, Solon Fuson and Verda Midgett Fuson; a son, Jerry Fuson; a daughter, Joyce Fuson; and a brother, Freddie Brown Fuson. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Reba Driver Fuson of Liberty. Children, Rebecca and husband James Taylor of Liberty; Layne and wife Darlene Fuson of Liberty; and Tracy and wife Stephanie Fuson of Liberty. Grandchildren, Brian Bandy, Katrina and Andy Collier, Brandon and Brenda Fuson, Christopher Fuson, Shane and Raven Fuson, Quentin Fuson, and Riley Fuson. Great grandchildren, Brent and Allison Collier, Matthew and Brooke Collier, Tiffany Collier, Sarah Fuson, Lillie Fuson, and Carson Fuson. Great great grandchild, Danica Collier.
