Marion Katharyn Cantrell Green

Marion Katharyn Cantrell Green, 86, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015, of natural causes. She was a long-term survivor of a stroke suffered 17 years earlier.
She was born April 21, 1928, to the late Dewey Lee and Hazel Parsley Cantrell. She married Joe Houston Green on May 21, 1947, and they lived a long life together in the Green Hill community.
Marion was preceded in death by her husband Joe, son Joe Allan, sister Dorothy (Paul) Bratcher, and great-grandsons Hunter and Harrison Bryan.
She was an incredibly devoted, hardworking woman throughout her life, both as a seamstress and homemaker. But her life’s work and proudest accomplishments were caring for and loving those who knew her as Ma, Mother and Granny.
Marion was a quintessential wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother—exceedingly kind, gentle and always forgiving. Her family will forever remember her as a living embodiment of unconditional love.
Her memory and best attributes live on through her son Larry (Amy) Green, daughter Barbara (Darrell) Russell, and daughter-in-law Teresa Green of McMinnville, Tenn.; brothers Dewey Lee (JoAnn) Cantrell and Landon (Sylvia) Cantrell of McMinnville, Tenn.; grandchildren Kelly (Mike) Hicks of Chattanooga, Tenn., George (Tara) Green of McMinnville, Tenn., Anissa (Tim) Russell Webster of McMinnville, Tenn., Staci Green of Chattanooga, Tenn., Laura (Rob) Sparkman of Tullahoma, Tenn., Julie (Rex) Rutledge of Chattanooga, Tenn., Carrie Green of McMinnville, Tenn., Adam Green of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Katherine (Brian) Reed of McMinnville, Tenn; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Marion’s family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to her caregivers and friends the past several years, both at her home and NHC HealthCare in Smithville, Tenn.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System Voluntary Service, Alvin C. York Campus or the American Stroke Association.
The funeral service is 1 p.m. Friday at McMinnville Funeral Home, with Teddy Jones officiating. The burial will follow at Webb cemetery at Bluff Springs. Visitation is Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and again Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., also at McMinnville Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at mcminnvillefuneralhome.com. McMinnville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Marcelle “Doris” Collins

Marcelle “Doris” Collins 86 years old of Fort Lauderdale FL had passed away on January 6th, 2015 at the Holy Cross Catholic Hospice Care. She was born November 15th, 1928 in Lawrence, MA. She had fought a long battle with a life threatening illness. She had moved to South Florida in 1968 and would retire after a career with Motorola in Plantation, FL. She lived a short time in Smithville with her mother and attended St.Gregory’s Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, George Lavigne and ArmosaDubois Lavigne of Lawrence, MA, a sister Marie Gloria Henderson and a daughter, Dorothy Marie Collins. Survivors include her children: daughters Patricia Wilt and Margaret Collins and sons, David John and Joseph Paul, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and nieces and a nephew. A memorial service will held at a later date. Doris was an avid reader so any donations may be made to your local public library in her memory.

Wanda Ann Miller Jones

Wanda Ann Miller Jones, age 67, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at Stones River Hospital E/R. She was a native of Cannon Co.
Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Valton Jones of Woodbury; 3 Children, Charles Roger Jones of Woodbury, Larry Douglas (Ima) Jones of McMinnville, Vickie Lynn (Dewayne) Patterson of Woodbury; Grandchildren, Joshua Brandon Jones of McMinnville, Jonathan Bradley Jones of McMinnville, David Lee Caswell of McMinnville, Kayla Rae Patterson of Murfreesboro, Everett Chase III, Brittany Chase, Travis Devin Patterson, Zachary Robinson, Savannah Lee Jones, & Shevi Dawn Patterson. Also surviving are 5 Great Grandchildren.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents, Odis Parker Miller & Laura Underhill Miller; & Siblings, John A. Miller, Bobby Brown Miller, & Pauline Burkett
She was a retired custodian.
Funeral services will be 3 PM Thursday, January 29, 2015 at the Chapel of Woodbury Funeral Home with Bro. Daniel Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 3 to 9 PM Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Woodbury Funeral Home.

Bruce Caldwell

82 year old Bruce Caldwell of Smithville died Friday morning at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a retired repairman for General Motors. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Smithville First Assembly of God where he was a member. Donnie Kelly will officiate and burial will be in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 2-8 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Love-Cantrell Funeral Home and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Caldwell was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lena Ferrell Caldwell; five brothers, J.W., Wade, Norman, Lonnie, and Raymond Caldwell; and two sisters, Nannie Mae Hale and Lois Moon. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Roxie Reeder Caldwell of Smithville. One daughter, Lesa Hale of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Zackary Hale and Destin of Mississippi, Devin Hale and Christi of Murfreesboro and Quentin Hale of Smithville. One brother, Zeb Caldwell of Smithville. Two sisters, Flonnie Vanatta and Dorothy Miller both of Smithville. Sisters-in-law, Marilyn Caldwell of Smithville and Henri Louise Reeder. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. In addition to flowers, the family asks that donations please be made to the Smithville First Assembly of God in memory of Mr. Caldwell.

Betty Williams Rose

Betty Williams Rose, age 85 of Cookeville, TN passed away Sunday evening January 18, 2015 at the Hillview Nursing Home in Columbia. Mrs. Rose was born February 25, 1929 in Somerset, KY, the daughter of the late Guy Williams and Gladys Littrell Williams. She graduated from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in May 1951 with a degree in Home Economics and immediately began working as the Home Demonstration Agent in Smith County. On August 22, 1954 she married Jerry Lancaster Rose of Smith County and he preceded her in death on May 10, 2005. From 1955 to 1960 she taught Home Economics at Gordonsville High School. Mrs. Rose devoted her life to raising her four children, providing them with the best education possible and supporting her husband in his work as President of the Cookeville Production Credit Association.
Mrs. Rose is survived by four children: Cindy Rose Dowell (Steve) of Carthage, Dr. Jerry Lancaster Rose, Jr. (Kari) of Columbia, TN, Rhedona Rose of Columbia, TN, and John Williams Rose (Chelsea) who owns the family Century Farm located near Temperance Hall, TN in DeKalb Co.
Mrs. Rose has four grandchildren: Lori Rose Dowell (Omar), New Orleans, LA, Stanley Greg Dowell, Washington, DC, Joseph Lancaster Rose, Starkville, MS and Ella Kate Rose, Columbia, TN.
She is survived by three sisters: Mary Williams Bowden (Shelley), Jamestown, TN, Margaret Williams Tipton (Winston), Muncie, IN and Jonelda Williams Blalock (Sid), Knoxville, TN. Sister-in-laws Frances Rose Driver, New Middleton, TN and Carlene Williams, Jamestown, TN also survive.
Four siblings predeceased Mrs. Rose. They were: Joyce Williams Johnson (Melvin), Livingston, Mildred Williams Pyle (Del), Sam Williams (Lou Nell) and Jerry Williams (Carlene) all of Jamestown, TN.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Rose are scheduled to be conducted on Saturday, January 24, 2014 at 1PM at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Homes. Interment will follow in the Gordonsville Cemetery.
Visitation with the Rose family will be held at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home on Friday from 3PM to 8PM and again on Saturday from 10AM until the service time at 1PM.

Elizabeth Ann Bennett

Elizabeth Ann Bennett age 54 of Carthage and a DeKalb County native, passed away Saturday February 7, 2015 in Carthage from injuries received in an automobile accident. She was born December 10, 1960 to her parents, the late Virgil Paul and Pauline George Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 1 son, Billy Randall Bennett, Jr.; sister, Rita Faye Gorman; brothers, Jimmy Lee Johnson, Billy Wayne Jonson, and Virgil Sherman Johnson. Elizabeth worked at Famous Footwear and was a faithful Christian and member of Christ Pentecostal Church in Brush Creek. She is survived by her husband, Randall Bennett of Carthage; 2 daughters, Briana Nicole Bennett and Rhonda Gail Bennett both of Carthage; 3 sisters, Paulette (Charles) Crawford of Carthage, Linda Sue Vaughn of Smithville; Paula (Greg) White of Bowling Green, Kentucky; 4 brothers, Jerry (Lucinda) Johnson of Brush Creek, TN, Edward (Joann) Johnson of Smithville, Michael Johnson of Lebanon, and Lester (Jane) Johnson of Portland, TN; special nephew, Jacky Edward (Sherry) Brady and special friend, Tommy Gibbs. Funeral services will be conducted 1:PM Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Christ Pentecostal Church (402 Alexandria Highway, Brush Creek, TN) with Bro. Billy Hale officiating and burial to follow in Hale cemetery at Pea Ridge. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday 2PM until 8PM and Wednesday 10AM until the time of the service at 1PM. All visitation and services will be held at Christ Pentecostal Church. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Louise Smithson

91 year old Louise Smithson of Romulus, Michigan died Friday. The funeral will be Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the Voran Funeral Home in Taylor, Michigan. A graveside service will be Saturday, February 14 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mount Ararat cemetery in Smithville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Smithson, Sr. Survivors include her children, Walter Smithson, Jr. and wife Ann, Brenda Love and husband Joe, Sue Gullett, Sharon Nagy, Edward Smithson and wife Gail, Randall Smithson, Sherri Massey and husband Craig, sister, Sara Moore, seventeen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 10 from 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Taylor Chapel of Voran Funeral Home in Taylor Michigan. The public may attend the graveside service at the Mt. Ararat cemetery in Smithville on Saturday, February 14 at 1:00 p.m. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Alzheimer's Association. Voran Funeral Home in Taylor, Michigan and Love-Cantrell Funeral Home in Smithville are in charge of the arrangements.

Ashley Michelle Bain

Ashley Michelle Bain age 28 of Smithville, passed away Thursday February 5, 2015. She was born August 29, 1986 to her parents, Cleveland Clay and Phyllis Gay Bain. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Homer and Jackie Cantrell Gay and paternal grandparents Clay and Ruth Redmon Bain. Ashley was a member of Gath Baptist Church and attended the Smithville First Assembly of God, and she was a factory worker. She is survived by her 3 children, Jacqueline Renee Bain, Makhia Hope Bain, and Elijah Cayden Coleman all of Smithville; Mother, Phyllis Gay Bain and James Weddington of Smithville; Father, Cleveland Clay (Diane) Bain of Smithville; 2 Brothers, Cleveland Derrick Bain of Nashville and Clay Andrew (Jamie) Bain of Smithville; Several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins also survive. There will be a public visitation on Monday, February 9, 2015 from 2:PM until 8:PM. Funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
