Don Chalfant, Sr.

65 year old Don Chalfant, Sr. of Smithville died Wednesday at his son's residence. He was a member of the Buckner's Chapel United Methodist Church, a retired TVA welder, and a Volunteer Pistole Club and I.D.P.A. member. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Phil Tollett will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis P. Chalfant and his wife, Marylin Kay Chalfant. Survivors include his children, Dawn and her husband Donnie Christian of Rock Island, and Donny Paul and his wife Carmella Chalfant of Smithville. Grandchildren, Lou Christian of Rock Island and Axyl Kane Chalfant of Smithville. His mother, Elizabeth M. Chalfant of Smithville. A brother, Jim and his wife Karen Chalfant of Florida. Nephews, David and his wife Suzy Chalfant of Florida, Jimmy Chalfant of Georgia, and Chris and his wife Lore Chalfant of Texas. An aunt, Ann Edelmann of New York. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family has asked that donations be made to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital, in lieu of flowers.

Rose Lee Hale Simmons

85 year old Rosie Lee Hale Simmons of McMinnville died Wednesday at Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville. She was a member of the Campaign Church of God of Prophecy. The funeral will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of High Funeral Home in McMinnville. Vernon Caruthers and Danny Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from noon until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. She was preceded in death by brothers, Author, Ed and Cooper Hale and a sister, Karon Scarlett. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Oma Norrod of McMinnville and Larry and Phyllis Norrod of Smithville. Two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Buddy Jones and Paula and David Rogers, Jr. all of McMinnville. Fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A sister, Agatha Lawrence of McMinnville. A brother and sister-in-law, A.T. Hale, Jr. and Helen of Campaign. Sister-in-law, Ruth Hale of McMinnville. Three step-sons and four step-daughters and several nieces and nephews also survive. High Funeral Home in McMinnville is in charge of the arrangements.

Johnny Ray Ball

50 year old Johnny Ray Ball of the Pea Ridge Community died Tuesday at his residence. He was an automotive welder. A graveside service will be held Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Banks Cemetery. Michael Hale will officiate. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Robert Marshall Ball and Letha Saddler Phelps. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Ball of Michigan. Four children, Johnny Wayne Ball of Liberty, and Jennifer Marie Ball, Sue Ellen Ball, and Jessie Lynn Ball all of Michigan. Grandchildren, Kaiden Frances Ball, Austin Gabriel Cloven, and Olivia Amber Marie Murphy, and an aunt, Pauline Fish of Smithville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. No public visitation will be held.

Wilma Clemons

68 year old Wilma Clemons of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was retired from the Liberty Shirt Factory and a Baptist. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Kevin Campbell will officiate and burial will be in the Mount Holly Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and Sunday until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Catherine Denny; her husband, Blanchard Clemons; and a brother, Ronald Dale Denny. Survivors include her mother, Catherine Denny of Woodbury. One daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Bobby Lynn Luna of Sparta. One son, Jeffrey Dale Denny of Woodbury. One sister and brother-in-law, Marion and John Campbell of Woodbury. One brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Reba Denny of Woodbury. Two grandchildren, Miranda and Treba Luna of Sparta. Several nieces, nephews, and friends also survive. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Carol Dunn Looney

58 year old Carol Dunn Looney of Cartersville, Georgia died Wednesday at the Cartersville Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her mother, Guynell Mabe. Survivors include two sons, Jimmy Crips and Don Crips of Austelle, Georgia. Four grandchildren, Brittany Lynn, Stormie Nicole, Chloe Marie, and Travis Glen. One sister, Glenda Staley of Smithville and a brother, Eddie Mabe of Smithville. Ms. Looney's remains have been cremated, A memorial service will be held at a later date. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Adam Reynolds

28 year old Adam Reynolds of Liberty died Thursday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was a member of the Salem Baptist Church and a material handler at Nissan. The funeral will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Howard and Margie Reynolds. Survivors include his wife, Amy Reynolds of Liberty. A daughter, Hayley Marie Reynolds of Liberty. His parents, Howard, Jr. and Freida Reynolds of Liberty. Two brothers, Chris Reynolds and Allen and his wife May Reynolds of Liberty. His maternal grandparents, Alfred and Marie Nixon of Watertown. A niece, Taylor Reynolds-Bower of Liberty. His father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lanny and Vicki Sandlin of Liberty. A brother-in-law, Hunter Sandlin, several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive. 81 year old Charline Bain Scott of McMinnville died Saturday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the Elizabeth Chapel Baptist Church. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in Tittsworth Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milburn Scott; her parents, Charlie Edgar and Ethie Lee Tittsworth Bain; brothers, Jack Smith Bain, Dorris Lee Bain, and Tommy Bain; and a sister, Lois Alexander. Survivors include her children, James and his wife Drucilla Scott of Rock Island, Donnie and his wife Peggy Scott of McMinnville, Linda Jeanette Scott of McMinnville, Ricky and his wife Teresa Scott of Auburntown, and Judy and her husband Mike Fairchild of Smithville. Eight grandchildren, Eric, Matt, Dayla, Brian, Haleigh, Reagan, Maleah, and Ryan; and a sister, Edwenia Scott of McMinnville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Jo Ann Parton Hancock

71 year old Jo Ann Parton Hancock of Gassaway Road, Woodbury and a native of Cannon County, died Wednesday of a short illness at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. She was owner of Woodbury Insurance Agency, a member of the Gassaway Church of Christ, and the Woodbury Lions Club. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Gassaway Church of Christ. Weldon Parkinson and John Barker will officiate and burial will be in Sycamore Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday until 9:00 p.m. and Friday until noon at Woodbury Funeral Home. The body will be at the church from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. She is survived by her husband of 53 years James Hancock of Gassaway. Two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Deborah Hancock of Smithville and Gary and Jama Hancock of Smithville. Two brothers, Oscar Parton and J.L. and Lucille Parton all of Woodbury. Two sisters, Ellen Blanton of Nashville and Faye Burger of Woodbury. Four grandchildren, Travis and his wife Beth Hancock, Chris and his wife Lydia Hancock, Emily and her husband Erik Hughes, and Matthew and his wife Alex Hancock. Three great grandchildren, Katie, James, and Carter Hancock. Woodbury Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made to the Gassaway Community Center, the Gassaway Church of Christ, or to the American Cancer Society.

74 year old Robert Carl Moffitt of McMinnville died Tuesday of an extended illness at the Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was a U.S. Air Force Korean War Veteran and a self employed contractor and former owner of the Mount View Cemetery. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Mount View Cemetery. Military grave rites will be held. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. His parents were Frank B. Moffitt and Edna Hillis. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Christine Moffitt of McMinnville and two grandchildren, Micah and Kristan Moffitt of McMinnville. High Funeral Home in McMinnville is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:30 p.m.. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Vanatta; her parents, Andrew E. and Pearl Lee Stokes Maynard; children, George "Buddy" Vanatta and Nolen Barnett; step-children, Grady Alton Vanatta and Lois Bonner; grandchildren, Sandra Barnett and Nolan Barnett, Jr.; sisters, Melissa Hendrix and Lillie May Bain; and brothers, Cecil and Robert Maynard. She is survived by a step-son, Aubry Vanatta of Smithville. Special daughter-in-law, Flonnie Vanatta of Smithville. Grandchildren, Melinda Vanatta-Davis of Smithville, Helen Caldwell of Smithville, Jimmy Barnett of Nashville, Debbie Barnett of Mount Juliet, Teresa Barnett of Smithville, and Chris Barnett of Centerville. Several step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
