Ray Neal, Jr

84 year old Ray Neal, Jr. of Smithville died Wednesday at Westmoreland Care and Rehab. He was a Methodist, a U.S. Navy veteran, a carpenter and bait salesman. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Ocana Coon Hunters Club. The funeral will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Royce Martin will officiate and burial will be in the Spring Hill cemetery in Nashville. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray, Sr. and Mary Winnie Raymond Neal; his wife, Frances C. Neal; a son, Carlus Ray Neal; brothers, Billy Charles and John Robert Neal; and a sister, Ailene Spivack. Survivors include four children, Richard A. Neal, Sr. and wife Pat of Lebanon, Karen Joyce and husband Earl Smith of Westmoreland, Thomas A. Neal of Carthage, David Lee and wife Tammy Neal of Woodbury. Nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. Two brothers, Clayton and wife Gail Neal and Morris and wife Shirley Neal all of McMinnville. One sister, Mary and husband John Young of Smithville. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

80 year old Paul Davis of Dowelltown died Friday night at the V.A. Hospital in Murfreesboro. The body is at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are incomplete.

Paul McKinley Davis

80 year old Paul McKinley Davis of Dowelltown died Friday at the Alvin C. York V.A. Medical Center in Murfreesboro. He was a retired U.S. Air Force Veteran, member of the American Legion, member of the Dowelltown United Methodist Church, and a painter. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. David Lunsford, Charles Martin, and Jim Bretl will officiate and burial will be in Salem cemetery in Liberty with military honors. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Bessie Oakley Davis; a son, Bob Davis; a brother, Tom Davis; and a sister, Pauline Martin. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Brenda Davis of Dowelltown. Two daughters, Paula and her husband Erik Wineland of San Antonio, Texas and Doretta Grant of Iowa. Two grandchildren. One sister, Minnie Bratten of Dowelltown. One sister-in-law, Ms. Chase Davis of Dowelltown. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family asks that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to either the Dowelltown United Methodist Church Building Fund, the Saint Gregory's Catholic Church Building Fund, Military Organizations, or to the Charity of your choice, in memory of Mr. Davis.

Lennell Haggard

77 year old Lennell Haggard of Smithville died Saturday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was the retired owner of Haggard Body Shop and a Baptist. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Bill Robertson will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 noon until 9:00 p.m.; Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maggie Bates Haggard; five brothers, Jess, Toy, Virbil, Bud, and Ed Haggard; four sisters, Ola and Ruby Haggard, Jewel Anderson, and Lorene Anderson Harris. Survivors include his wife, Frances Montgomery Haggard of Smithville. One son, David and his wife Vicki Haggard of Smithville. Two daughters, Tina and her husband Melvin Crips, Jr. and Virginia Haggard all of Smithville. Four grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Haggard and Caelin and Landon Crips all of Smithville. Bobbie Jean Houk

70 year old Bobbie Jean Houk of Smithville died Wednesday at her residence. She was a Pentecostal and a retired factory worker. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Toy Lawson will officiate and burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence Lee Neal; two sons, Jimmy and James Griffith; a daughter, Marie McBride; and a grandson, Stephen Patrick. Survivors include five children, Charles and his wife Phyllis Griffith of Alexandria, Maurice Griffith of Smithville, Deborah Page of Smithville, Teresa Griffith of Nashville, and Melissa Culwell of Nashville. Her mother, Nancy Lillian Neal of Smithville. Fifteen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Two brothers, Doug and his wife Kathy Neal and L.W. Neal all of Smithville. Four sisters, Loretta and her husband Junior Bain of Smithville, Linda Fay Knowles of Smithville, Patricia and her husband Chester Sanders of Smithville, and Elaine McGuire of Spencer. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. The family asks that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to DeKalb Funeral Chapel to help with funeral expenses.

Kirke Eddy Vernon

66 year old Kirke Eddy Vernon of Cumming, Georgia died at Northside Hospital in Atlanta on Monday. He was a long time resident of Connecticut. Vernon was the son of the late Hollis Vernon and Jean Wilkes. He regularly attended the Black Rock Congregational Church of Fairfield, Connecticut and hosted a weekly Bible study. He also represented Connecticut in multiple Senior Olympic Games for both tennis and swimming events. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Cumming First United Methodist Church. Rimes McElveen will officiate. A reception will be held immediately following the service. The family requests that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, in Mr. Vernon's memory to Big Brothers Big Sisters at 1-888-412-BIGS or at www.bbs.org, or the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345 or www.cancer.org. Vernon is survived by his wife, Martha Vernon of Cumming, Georgia. Two sons, Chris and his wife Cynthia Page Vernon of Franklin, Tennessee and Patrick and his wife Andrea Vernon of Orlando, Florida. James Alton Hildreth

74 year old James Alton Hildreth of the Green Hill Community died Wednesday at DeKalb Community Hospital of an extended illness. He was a farmer, native of Warren County, and a member of the Green Hill Church of Christ. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of High Funeral Home in McMinnville. Homer Galyan will officiate and burial will be in the Webb cemetery at Bluff Springs in Warren County. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Survivors include his wife, Nan Flanders Hildreth of the Green Hill Community. Sons and daughters-in-law, Rikey and Gwen Hildreth, Garry Hildreth, and Danny and Ann Hildreth all of the Green Hill Community. Grandchidren, Lesley and Jon Neale, Abby Hildreth, Eric Hildreth, Hayden, and Corbin Hildreth. A sister, Eva Inglis of the Lucky Community and nieces, Betty Merriman and Patsy Inglis. Ruby Dee Vann

97 year old Ruby Dee Vann of Gallatin died Wednesday at Sumner Regional Medical Center. She was a retired secretary at Cedars of Lebanon State Park, a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church, and a member of the Smithville Study Club. The funeral will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Neal cemetery in Watertown. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Vann; parents, John and Fannie Bates Foutch; and two sisters, Ora Reed and Ethel Barrett. Survivors include a nephew, Ralph and his wife Lucille Reed of Lebanon and two nieces, Juanita Barber of Hermitage and Dorothea Marschall of Gallatin. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family asks that all donations please be made to the Smithville First Baptist Church or to the Gallatin First Baptist Church, in lieu of flowers.

67 year old Lottie Bea Whalen of Alexandria died Tuesday at her residence. She was a Baptist and a homemaker. A memorial service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Everette and Anna Taylor Comley; sisters, Myrtle Whitaker and Mary Pauline Comley; and brothers, Louis, Andrew Park, and Ralph Douglas Comley. Survivors include a daughter, Tina and her husband Michael Page of Alexandria. Special friend, Kathy Monroe of Dowelltown. Sisters, Nora Anderson of Alexandria and Louise Lail of Georgetown, Kentucky. Brothers, Jimmy and Paul Comley; nephews, Tony, Billy, and James Timothy Lail, and William, Billy, and Larry Comley; and a niece, Valorie Comley. Roy Glenn Whitfield

89 year old Roy Glenn Whitfield of Rome, Tennessee died Monday at his residence. He was born in the Cario Bend Community of Wilson County, the son of the late Era Wilkerson and Willis Whitfield. Three brothers preceded him in death, Howard, Lester, and Frank Whitfield. Mr. Whitfield was a veteran of World War II. He worked in Tool and Die factories in Michigan, Texas, and Tennessee. A graveside service and burial will be in Smith County Memorial Gardens at Carthage on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. James Thomas Gibbs will officiate. Family and friends will assemble at the Carthage Chapel of Bass Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. and proceed in procession to the Memorial Gardens for the 11:00 a.m. service. He is survived by a brother, Cecil Whitfield of Hartsville, a sister, Carrie Mae Gray of Lebanon, and several nieces and nephews. Bass Funeral Home, Carthage Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Charlie Gaston Malone

77 year old Charlie Gaston Malone of Dry Fork Road, Brush Creek died Tuesday at his residence. The body is at the Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home where the funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. Bill Gay will officiate and burial will be in the Union Hill cemetery in Sykes. The Malone family will receive friends at the Gordonsville Chapel on Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Scotty Barrett of Brush Creek. A son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Nancy Malone of Brush Creek. Two grandchildren, Kacie Malone and Abby Malone. A step grandson, Chris Barrett. A sister, Shirley and her husband Robert Katzenmiller of Alexandria. Brothers, John M. and his wife Barbara Malone of Alexandria and Marlin Malone of Alexandria. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The Gordonsville Chapel of Bass Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
