Winfred T. Turner

81 year old Winfred T. Turner of Smithville died Friday at DeKalb Community Hospital. He was a retired maintenance worker from Vanderbilt Hospital and a member of the Mount Hope The Baptist Church. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Dwight Knowles will officiate and burial will be in the Indian Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Naomi West Turner; three brothers, Orville Lee, Gent, and Rob Turner; a son. Winfred Dwayne Turner; and a grandchild, Angela O'Neal. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Waldron Turner of Smithville. A daughter, Shirley Norris and husband David Eldridge of Cookeville. Two step-daughters, Diane and husband Rayford Seales of Kentucky and Debbie Smith Embree of Nashville. One step-son, Mark and his wife Connie Smith of Murfreesboro. One grandchild, Diana O'Neal of Florida. Seven step grandchildren and four step- great grandchildren. A brother, Hubert and his wife Carolyn Turner of Smithville. A sister, Sue Roberts of McMinnville. And a sister-in-law, Audean and her husband Ernest Pack of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Courtney Kristin Pirtle

22 year old Courtney Kristin Pirtle of Smithville died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a secretary at Pirtle's Nursery and a member of the Church of the Nazarene. The funeral will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Trent Colwell and Rannie Phillips will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, John B. and Nell Hobbs Judkins. She is survived by her parents, Danny and Melissa Judkins Pirtle; a sister, Trista Pirtle; a brother, Danny Pirtle, Jr.; and her paternal grandparents, James and Ruth Houk Pirtle all of Smithville. Four aunts, Judy and husband Ronnie Hale, Faye Cook, and Janie and husband Paul Armstrong all of Smithville, and Debbie and husband Rannie Phillips of Woodbury. One uncle, John and his wife Barbara Anderson of Georgia. One special friend, Jamie Tuttenburg of Smithville. Several cousins and extended family also survive. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family has asked that donations be made to the Church of the Nazarene Youth Group, in lieu of flowers.

Alvin "Buck" Burton

77 year old Alvin "Buck" Burton of Smithville died Wednesday at his residence. He was a member of the Whorton Springs Baptist Church and a self-employed cabinet worker. Burton served in the U.S. Navy, a veteran of the Korean War. The funeral will be Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Steve Warren will officiate and burial will be in DeKalb Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Zettie and Henry Viola Davis Burton and nine brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Burton of Smithville. Seven children, Adam and his wife Wanda Mathis, Diane and husband Chris Crook, and Karen and husband Aaron Lester all of Smithville, Joe Burton of Livingston, Dennis Burton and Rocky Burton both of Nashville, and Frank and wife Jeannie Burton of Kentucky. Ninteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Two sisters, Margaret Dabbs of Nashville and Barbara Wooten of LaVergne. Several nieces and nephews also survive. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Henry "Buddy" Alonzo Cox

72 year old Henry "Buddy" Alonzo Cox of Smithville died Sunday at his residence. He was retired from the Tennessee Mechanical Corporation and a member of the Whorton Springs Baptist Church. The family has chosen direct cremation. A memorial service will be Saturday, May 22nd at 4:00 p.m. at Whorton Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Rose Harris Cox and a brother, James Lee Cox, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Louise Reid Cox. Two daughters, Darlene and husband Mark Brown of Georgia and Lisa and husband Ronald Lessard of North Carolina. A son, Jimmy and wife Vivian of Smyrna. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Donations may be made to Whorton Springs Baptist Church or the Lighthouse Christian Camp.

Martha Sue Squires

86 year old Martha Sue Squires of Smithville died Monday at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She was a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church and a retired factory worker and homemaker. The funeral will be Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Mike Carpenter and Terry Fesler will officiate and burial will be in the Brush Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 1:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her parents, Garland and Lillian Reeves Evans; her husband, J.W. Squires; a daughter, Ann Lefton; a sister, Jane Grandstaff; and a brother, Robert Evans. Survivors include a daughter, Peggy and husband Wayne Fuson of Smithville. Three grandchildren, Jerry Fuson and Jenny and husband Todd Cantrell all of Smithville, and Julie and husband Collin McCoy of Winterpark, Florida. Great grandchildren, Madi and Megan Cantrell and Max and Sam McCoy. A sister, Frances Thomas of Nashville. Brother-in-law, Fred and wife Becky Squires of Lebanon. DeKalb Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

57 year old Sally Carolyn Judkins of Smithville died Friday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. The funeral will be Monday at 2:00 p.m. at DeKalb Funeral Chapel. Michael Hale will officiate and burial will be in the Bonham Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at 2:00 p.m. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Judkins and her father, Eddie Floyd Robinson. Survivors include her mother, Annie Lee Taylor of Smithville. Two sisters and a brother, Freeda and husband Bill Phillips, Ray and wife Teresa Robinson, and Sue and husband Bobby Summers all of Smithville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Robert "Bobby" Lee Plahetka

34 year old Robert "Bobby" Lee Plahetka, formerly of Indiana, died Thursday at his residence in White County. He was a farm hand. The funeral will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Peeled Chestnut Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Paul Plahetka. Survivors include his mother, Gail Young Osborne and her husband Frosty; one sister, Tara Plahetka and one brother, Brian Nulf all of Indiana. Two step brothers, Tim and David Osborne of Missouri and his step-father, Mike Nichols of Illinois. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James "Bear" Eric Randolph

50 year old James "Bear" Eric Randolph has died. The funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville. Burial will be in the West Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Survivors include his mother, Modelle Randolph. His wife, Belinda Randolph. A son, Jason Randolph. Two step-daughters, Lisa Arnold and Abby Vogel. Brothers, Jason, Mark, and Kyle Randolph. Five grandchildren also survive. Lou Harrison Puckett

93 year old Lou Harrison Puckett of Smithville died Tuesday at DeKalb Community Hospital. She was a gardener, a retired farmer, and a member of the Buckner's Chapel United Methodist Church. The funeral will be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Michael Carpenter will officiate and burial will be in the Burton-Ponder Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and Friday from 9:00 a.m.until the time of the funeral. Puckett was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Harrison Puckett; her parents, Noah Samuel Parsley and Nancy Elizabeth Vanhooser Parsley; brothers, Edward and Elmer Parsley; and a sister, Odell Shriver. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard Hearon Puckett and Ann Nixon Puckett; granddaughters, Tecia Lou Puckett Pryor and Mary Ann Puckett; grandsons-in-law, John Pryor and Jack Barton; and great grandchildren, Harrison Puckett Pryor and Tess Annabel Barton all of Smithville. Sisters-in-law, Jewell Love of Woodbury, Rhea Nell Parsley of Chesterfield, Michigan and Sue Parsley of Logansport, Indiana. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Kenith Wayne Byford

69 year old Kenith Wayne Byford of Dowelltown died Wednesday at his residence. He was a Baptist and a retired truck driver for Model City Auto Sales. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Visitation will be Saturday from 3:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral at 2:00 p.m. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orvil Lee and Helen Gertrude Murphy Byford and a granddaughter, Shanna Pinegar. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Corey Funk of Smithville. One granddaughter, Shelly and her husband Tim Hearn of Alexandria. Four great grandchildren, Victoria Tatrow and Katlyn Pinegar both of Smithville and Jaycee Johnson and Jayden Hearn both of Alexandria. One brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Jeanette Byford of Smithville. Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. The family has asked that donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to the funeral home to meet funeral expenses.
