Died: 10/08/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Patricia "Patsy" Ann Benton, age 58, Rogersville, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at her residence following a brief illness.

She was a life-long resident of Hawkins County and a member of the Van Hill Freewill Baptist Church. She was employed by K-Mart of Rogersville and a former employee of the Kingsport Press.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Debbie Benton Dykes; and father, Clarence Fields.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Benton of the home; a daughter, Sheila Peters and husband Mark, Church Hill; three grandchildren, Christy Dykes, Rogersville, Stephanie Peters and Andrew Peters, both of Church Hill; mother, Helen Gardner Fields, Rogersville; two brothers, Wayne C. Fields and wife Judy, and Dewey Kyle Fields and wife Sue, all of Rogersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Carl Callahan officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Junior R. Stanton
Died: 10/08/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Junior Rhoton Stanton, age 72, Rogersville, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, following an extended illness.

He was a faithful husband and devoted father.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Jessie Stanton; three sisters; and four brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Madge Stanton of the home; six sons, Carlos, David, Donald, Ronald, Leroy and Richard Stanton, all of Rogersville; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Stanton, Rogersville; special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Raymond and Rita Howell, Hagger, MD; several nieces and nephews; and a sister, Odell Williams, Rogersville.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Gene Moore officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Providence Cemetery.

Jesse L. Smith
Died: 10/07/2001
MOORESBURG -- Jesse L. Smith, age 42, Mooresburg, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He was a member of Spruce Pine Grove Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Govan Smith Jr.; and his grandparents.

He is survived by his mother, Betty Smith, Mooresburg; sister, Mrs. Randy (Mary Alice) Brady, Mooresburg, two nephews, Joshua and Zachary Brady, Mooresburg; and several aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Spruce Pine Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Randy Epps and Don Brewer officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Choptack Cemetery.

Helen M. Kimbrough
Died: 10/07/2001
TALBOTT -- Helen Mae Kimbrough, age 67, Talbott, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Ft. Sanders Parkwest Hospital, Knoxville.

She was a member of Maple Hill Baptist Church in Hawkins County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Kimbrough; parents, Rev. Charlie and Thelma Blanton Johnson; brothers, Rev. James Johnson and Eldridge Johnson; and sisters, Kathryn Argelene Odom and Donna Gail Vaughn.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Mike Cobb, Bulls Gap; sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene and Linda Brewer, Talbott, Don and Kathy Brewer, Morristown; grandchildren, Dustin and Danah Helton, Jenna Brewer, Kelley Brewer, Cassie Baker, Justin Cobb, Shannon Collins; great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Taylor Helton, Christopher Maddox, Andrew Helton, Austin Claxton, Molly and Craig Collins; sister, Dorotha Coffey, Morristown; special light in her life, Hubert Collins, Polly Island, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001. Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001, at Mayes Mortuary with Rev. Chris Dotson officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Dover Cemetery.

Hazel C. Cinnamon
Died: 10/05/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Hazel Christine Cinnamon, age 69, Rogersville, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001. She was a member of McCloud’s Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale Cinnamon; two sons, Clifford Eugene Cinnamon, and Gary Wayne Cinnamon; and a daughter, Linda Braford.

She is survived by seven daughters, Glenda Barker, Rogersville, Reba Trent, Bulls Gap, Sandra Mullins, Nancy Williams, Lillie Bailey, Tammy Murrell and Shannon Davis, all of Rogersville; four sons, Charles Cinnamon of the home, Milton of West Virginia, Eddie, Bulls Gap, and Danny, Rogersville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of friends.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Bobby Bentley officiating. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at Dodson Creek Cemetery.

John L. Cinnamon
Died: 07/18/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- John Lee Cinnamon, age 76, Rogersville, died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at his residence after an extended illness.

He was a Christian, a lifelong resident of Hawkins County, and a veteran of World War II, having proudly served in the U.S. Army in the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division in Italy as a staff sergeant. He was a retired employee of J.A. McDonald Milling Co. and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton H. and Lillie Elkins Cinnamon; a daughter, Shelby Jean Cinnamon; a son, Richard Lynn Cinnamon; four sisters, Jessie Wilder, Maggie Lou Spears, Bessie Spears and Iva Cinnamon; five brothers, Monroe Cinnamon, Eugene Cinnamon, Gale Cinnamon, Eldridge Cinnamon and Rod Cinnamon.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline Winkle Cinnamon of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Morgan Thurman, Dottie and Bill Mayes, Beverly and Ricky Greene, and Gena and David Reynolds, all of Rogersville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Mary Lou Cinnamon; Jeff and Chamaine Cinnamon, both of Bulls Gap, Bryan and Amy Cinnamon, Rogersville; 19 grandchildren; a great granddaughter; a sister, Minnie Sutton, Greeneville; a brother, Carl Cinnamon, Rogersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2000, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Richard Cassidy and Dr. Bobby Tucker officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2000, at Dodson Creek Cemetery with military honors provided by Hawkins County Color Guard.

Margaret C. Miller
Died: 10/05/2001
KNOXVILLE -- Margaret C. Miller, Knoxville, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at her home. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for several years, taught in the Sunday School junior department, and sang with the Knoxville Choral Society, and was active in the Mission Societies. She volunteered with the Red Cross during World War II. She attended Flora McDonald College and finished undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Tennessee. She taught music in Rogersville and Knoxville City Schools and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. For many years she volunteered at Fort Sanders Hospital, and delivered meals to the homebound and elderly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Miller, Rogersville; grandparents, Charles C. and Margaret Jett Pillaux, early settlers of Knox County, and George and Custis Miller, early settlers of Anderson County; brothers, Lyons and Schubert Miller; sisters, Sara Grace Miller and Louise Lea.

She is survived by nieces, Hannah VanHorn, Nancy Woods, Martha Thinkel, Alene Wright, Patricia Osborne; nephews, Schubert Miller Jr., Tracy Lea, Luke Lea Jr.; great-nieces, Kim Cawood, Vicki VanHorn; great-nephews, Stuart Woods and Lyons Osborne.

Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Sunset Cemetery, Clinton, with Rev. Dave Ward officiating.

Memorials may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.

Nancy C. Gonce
Died: 10/04/2001
ROGERSVILLE -- Nancy Cornelia Gonce, age 95, Rogersville, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, following an extended illness.

She was a member of Compromise Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Gonce.

She is survived by three nephews, Alford, Edward and Roger Wilson, all of Rogersville; three nieces, Hope Seal, Wilma Waye and Janice Livesay, all of Sneedville; and several great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Revs. J.C. Lawson and R.L. McGhee officiating. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at the Gonce Cemetery.

Lois R. Armstrong
Died: 10/04/2001
NASHVILLE -- Lois Rochelle Armstrong, age 91, Nashville, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at St. Thomas Hospital.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Nashville, and formerly a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church, Stony Point.

She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Hawkins County School System and retired from the Rogersville City School where she taught first grade for over 30 years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Travelers Rest Chapter of Brentwood, Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Armstrong; parents, William L. and Lula Hester Rochelle; two sisters, Marguerite Rochelle Shannon and Eudora Rochelle Mason; and a brother, William Rayburn Rochelle.

She is survived by a sister, Roberta Rochelle Torrence, Nashville, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 7 - 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at New Providence Presbyterian Church, Stony Point, with Dr. David Hale officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Rochelle Center, 1020 Southside Ct., Nashville, TN 37203.
