SONORA, CA -- Patricia C. Hensley-Benge, age 46, died unexpectedly Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at the Tuolome General Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, Sonora, CA.
She was born in Rogersville, TN, June 10, 1953 and had been living in California. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Logan and Anna Mae Hensley; and a sister, V. June Hensley-Lancaster of North Carolina.
She is survived by her husband, Andrew M. Benge of California; a son, G. Stephen Hyder, New Knoxville, OH; a daughter, Rachel A. Hyder-Cruz, Marysville, OH; a granddaughter, Sundra A. Cruz; brothers, Gaither, Sam and Joe Hensley, all of Rogersville, Don and Billy Hensley of Ohio; sisters, Evelyn and Goldie Hensley-Rollins of Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. at Shelton’s Mission Church, Greeneville, TN, May 27, 2000.

Christina M. Hurd

ROGERSVILLE -- Christina Mae Hurd, age 70, Rogersville, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmer Hurd; parents, Proctor J. and Odie Foster Conley; two sisters, Francis Turner and Helen Hutchins; and four brothers, Harry, Junior, Robert and Thomas Conley.
She is survived by three sons, David Hurd and wife Shirley, Rogersville, Clint G. Hurd, Rogersville, Clint E. Hurd, Crown Point, IN; five grandchildren, Christina Hurd and Andrew Hurd, both of Rogersville, Eddie Hurd, Michael Hurd and Christy Ann Hurd, all of Crown Point; a brother, John Edward Conley, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 6 - 7 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2000, at Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA, with Rev. Lacy Griffith officiating.
Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for graveside services.
Edith Johnson

ROGERSVILLE -- Edith Johnson, age 85, Rogersville, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at the residence of her daughter, Frankie Johnson, Morristown, following an extended illness.
She was a member of Houses Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bob Johnson; a son, James Johnson; daughter, Virginia Martin; and parents, James and Ollie Hickman.
She is survived by five daughters, Bobbie Parrott, Fairfax, VA, Ann West, Bitsy Heck, both of Rogersville, Norma Johnson of Virginia, and Frankie Johnson, Morristown; four sons, Jack Johnson, Terry Johnson, Jerry Johnson, all of Rogersville and Ricky Johnson, Greeneville; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Georgie Hickman, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Revs. Henry Wheeler and John Parrott Sr. officiating. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call any time at the residence of Terry Johnson, 343 Hecktown Road, Rogersville, and from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday prior to the services at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Billy W. Leake
Died: 05/18/2000
MARS HILL, NC -- Billy W. Leake, age 68, Mars Hill, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at a local solace center.
A native of Madison County, he had lived in Ohio for 33 years where he worked for Ford Motor Company, returning to Madison County following his retirement. He was a member of Davis Chapel Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 - 1953. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and loved gardening and gospel music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph "Derb" and Elizabeth "Fannie" Adams Leake; and brothers, Charlie and John Leake.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mae Gosnell Leake; daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Betty) Stallard, Lorain, OH, Deborah Leake and Connie Leake, both of Mars Hill; a son, William Leake Jr., Roanoke, VA; sisters, Helen Adams, Lula Adams, Cassie Chandler, and Myrtle Ray; brothers, Jimmy Leake, Bruce Leake, and Warner Leake; eight grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held 11 an. Monday, May 22, 2000, in the chapel of Madison Funeral Home, with Revs. J.A. Griffin and Manson Warren officiating. Interment will follow in the Tilman Gosnell Cemetery.
Grandsons and nephews will be pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 2 - 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Ross H. Mayes
Died: 05/18/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Ross Henry "Dink" Mayes, age 76, Rogersville, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at the Mt. Home Veteran’s Hospital, Johnson City, following a brief illness.
He was a member of the Rogersville Presbyterian Church and attended Persia Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the U.S. Army in Co. B331st Medical Battalion, 106th Infantry Division, and he was a prisoner of war. He was retired from Joseph Rogers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9543. He was a life member of DAV and was a life member of East Tennessee Ex-POW Chapter American Ex-Prisoners of War Inc. He was a member of the Rogersville Senior Citizen and a life member of Joseph Rogers Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #9543.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mable Virginia Mayes; parents, Joseph and Bertha Mae Christian Mayes; a step-son, Eddie Baker; and a brother, Joe Mayes Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Maggie Jane Mayes of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Billy Joe Thomas and Brenda and Larry Gladson, Rogersville; a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Dottie Mayes, Rogersville; three step-children, Darlene and Bascom Price, Rogersville, Connie and Jesse Johnson, Mooresburg, and Mike Baker, Morristown; six grandchildren, Forrest Gladson, Ashley Gladson, B.J. Mayes, Travis Mayes, Seth Thomas and Krista Thomas; two step-grandchildren, Thomas Johnson and Eugene price; two sisters, Ann Samsel and Mrs. Ron (Judy) Eidson, Bean Station; brother, Lewis Mayes, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Drs. David Hale and Bobby Tucker officiating. Hawkins County Color Guard will conduct military honors 2 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Highland Cemetery.

Raymond G. Seals

MOORESBURG -- Raymond "George" Seals, age 76, Mooresburg, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
He was a member of Bentley’s Chapel Baptist Church. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ada R. Carpenter; father, Wilson Seals; and uncle and aunt, Sam and Maggie Carpenter.
He is survived by his sister, Blanche Widish of Wisconsin; three nieces, Mrs. Mark (Mary) Olson of Wisconsin, Mrs. Robert (Elizabeth) Fuhr of Illinois, and Mrs. John (Joyce) Laboanch of Wisconsin; three great-nephews; two great-nieces; eight half-sisters; and two half-brothers.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Basil Jones officiating. Hawkins County Color Guard will conduct military honors following the services at Highland Cemetery.

Helen E. Templeton

ROGERSVILLE -- Helen E. Templeton, age 77, Rogersville, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home.
She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dillsboro, IN, where she played the organ. She also worked with the elderly most of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. O.O. and Mary Bogges; and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin Templeton of the home; a sister, Rachel Boyd of Angwin, CA; a niece, Harrit White, Mason, WI; and a nephew, Richard Lone, Anderson, IN.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. Dee Hicks officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2000, at Highland Cemetery.

Jean C. Boyd

ROGERSVILLE -- Jean Combs Boyd, age 70, Rogersville, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center following an extended illness.
She graduated from Rogersville High School and served as clerk of General Sessions Court, secretary to the late Criminal Judge J. Mayes and Criminal Judge James E. Beckner and was foreman of Hawkins County Grand Jury.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Curtis M. Combs Sr. and Hazel Carter Combs; sisters, Jessie Mae Combs Collier and Daisy Combs Hall; and a brother, Charles Combs.
She is survived by a daughter, Joann Boyd Buice of Georgia; two granddaughters, Kelly Buice and Kristy Buice of Georgia; a brother, C.M. Combs, Rogersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Rev. John Parrott Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2000, at Highland Cemetery.
