ROGERSVILLE -- Jeremy David Roark, age 20, Rogersville, died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was a member of Shepards Chapel Church. He was employed by the Hawkins County Highway Department and was in the process of enlisting in the Air Force. He graduated in 1999 from Cherokee High School where he excelled in track, holding several conference records.
He was preceded in death by a grandmother, Doris Larkins.
He is survived by his mother and step-father, Susan and Scott Begley, Rogersville; father and step-mother, Sandy and Linda Roark, Rogersville; sisters, Jennifer Begley, Sara Begley, both of Rogersville, Tracie Wright, Knoxville, and Emily Wood, Kingsport; brothers, Luke Wood, Kingsport, and Travis Wright, Washington, DC; grandparents, Roy and Bobbie Carpenter, Sam and Margaret Roark, and Larry and Shirley Begley; a great-grandmother, Nellie Phillips; uncles, Lester Carpenter, Stan Roark, and Wesley Begley; aunts, Shirley Waller and Sherry Bundy; cousins Adam and Leslie Carpenter, and Jessie and Jette Bundy; several great-aunts, uncles, and many special friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 3, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Revs. Johnny Carr, Dayton Lovin and Keith Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in the Carpenter Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund for students attending Cherokee High School in Jeremy’s name has been set up at the First Community Bank.

Emerson Grisham
Died: 06/07/2000
MORRISTOWN -- Emerson Grisham, age 79, Morristown died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at Life Care Center of Morristown. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Navy in the South Pacific Theater.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae McDaniel Grisham; and two sons, Johnny and Danny Grisham.
He is survived by three daughters, Betty, Danielle and Connie, all of Florida; two sons, Steve and David Grisham of Florida; two sisters, Dorothy Ferguson, Jonesborough and Lois Armstrong, Morristown; five brothers, Frank Grisham, Knoxville, Clarence Grisham and Bill Grisham, both of Morristown, Elmer Grisham, Jefferson City, and Paul Grisham, Bean Station; several nieces and nephews.
Hawkins County Color Guard will conduct military graveside services 2:30 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, at the Mt. Home National Cemetery, Johnson City.
Arrangements are under direction of Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Clinton O. Short
Died: 06/08/2000
ANNAPOLIS, MD -- Clinton Otis Short, age 82, Annapolis, MD, died Thursday, June 8, 2000, at Washington(DC) Hospital Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Sneedville. He was a retired mechanic from A.A. Co. Board of Education. Prior to that he was service manager with Erickson Motors. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and had worked in the CCC camps for Conservation. He was of the Batpist faith and enjoyed traveling, walking, and sports, especially the Orioles.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Jones Short, whom he married on Aug. 30, 1940; two brothers, David Short, Rogerville, and Lawrence Short, Edgewater, MD; two sisters, Myrtle Edds, Crownsville, MD, and Bonnie Crider, Wythville, VA.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 12, 2000, in the Hardesty Funeral Home P.A., Annapolis. Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Annapolis.
Blaine Jones
Died: 06/09/2000
MORRISTOWN -- Blaine Jones, age 28, Morristown, died Friday, June 9, 2000, due to injuries from a motorcycle accident.
He was employed by Wiggins Construction, New Market.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Blaine Jones I; a half-brother, Melvin Blaine Jones II; grandfather, Robert Jones; grandmother, Martha Jones; grandfather, Red Hall; a nephew, David Jones; and a sister-in-law, Gale Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Angie Jones, and a son, Aaron Jones, both of the home; his mother, Barbara Jones; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Gary Mayes, Rogersville, and Katy and Mark Jarrett, Wheeling, WV; four brothers ad sisters-in-law, Mike and Dedra Hall, Whitesburg, Bill and Tammy Jones, Rogersville, Steve and Eunice Jones, Morristown, and Jessie Jones, Morristown; a grandmother, Jessie Hall; and several nieces, nephews, a uncle, aunts, family members and lots of friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Stubblefield Funeral Home, Morristown, with Rev. Jack Greene officiating. Interment will follow in Bethesda Cemetery.
Friends will be received 6 - 9 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2000, at Stubblefield Funeral Home, Morristown.
Ralph H. Carter
Died: 06/13/2000
ROGERSVILLE -- Ralph H. Carter, age 78, Rogersville, died Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
He was a member of Spires Chapel Baptist Church. He was retired from the Caterpillar Company, Peoria, IL, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie L. Carter; parents, Steve and Nannie Carter; sister, Lillie Mae Taylor; and brother, Ezra Carter.
He is survived by a sister, Rosa Barker, Clinchport, VA; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2000, at Spires Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. John North officiating. Hawkins County Color Guard will conduct military honors following the funeral service at Highland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Spires Chapel Baptist Church.

Betty A. Livesay

EIDSON -- Betty Anderson Livesay, age 80, Eidson, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at her residence following a brief illness.
She was a member of Kyles Ford Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School teacher for many years. She was a charter member of Sneedville Chapter #443 Order of the Eastern Star. She was the owner and operator of Livesay’s General Store.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris D. Livesay; parents, Thurman and Sophia Anderson; two brothers, Sterling and Howard Anderson; and three sisters, Ova Wallen, Stella Castle and Mary Anderson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Lance Weston, Kyles Ford; a grandson, Vernon Weston and wife Sheila, Rogersville; a granddaughter, Melissa Weston, Kyles Ford; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Savannah Weston, Rogersville; two sisters, Martha Hilton, Rogersville, and Hazel Davidson, Morristown; two sisters-in-law, Viola Livesay, Rogersville, and Pearl Vaughan, Kingsport; a brother-in-law, Kermit Castle; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Revs. Dennis Hilton and Greg Ellison officiating. There will be no formal Eastern Star service, however members of Sneedville Chapter #443 Order of the Eastern Star are requested to sit together in a section that will be reserved for them. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.

James Biggs

ROGERSVILLE -- James Biggs, age 76, Rogersville, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Hawkins County Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
He was president of the board of directors of Holston Electric Cooperative, where he served for 23 years. He was past president of First National Bank of Rogersville. He was a local bondsman, realtor and barber. He was former owner and operator of Community Market and A&W Pawn Shop. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served as deacon, past Sunday School superintendent and past director of youth department.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Birdie Jenkins Biggs; and a sister, Alma Kirkland.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elkins Biggs of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Bob Poling, Pulaski; a son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Susan Biggs, Rogersville; five grandchildren, Dr. Todd Biggs and wife, Kristi, Rogersville, John B. Biggs, Rogersville, Amy White and husband Jason, Hermitage, Paula Poling, Knoxville, and Alison Poling, Pulaski; one great-grandson, Brady Biggs, Rogersville; a brother and sister-in-law, Howard Biggs and wife Elizabeth, Mooresburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 5 - 8 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2000, at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2000, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charles C. Hobbs officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at McKinney Cemetery.

Ida M. Herron

EIDSON -- Ida McKinley Herron, Eidson, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Sunbridge Nursing Home. She was a member of Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack Herron; and a son, James Russell Herron Sr.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Annie Herron, Eidson; grandsons, Ronnie Herron, Rogersville, James (Jim) Herron Jr., Mohawk, Gary Herron, Eidson; great-grandchildren, Scott, Shane, Shawn, Stacy, Matthew, Holly, April, Jennifer and Jessica; two step-great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Joshua; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 8 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2000, at Colboch-Price Chapel with Revs. R.L. McGee and Johnny Carr officiating. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the Herron Family Cemetery.
