VIRGIE (TURNER) MCDONALD
Funeral services for Mrs. Virgie (Turner) McDonald, 92, of Alpine, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Burial was in Bolestown cemetery in Pickett County with Bro. David Beaty officiating.

Mrs. McDonald died Tuesday, April 6 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Church Presbyterian in Alpine.

Born January 14, 1912, in Pickett County, she was the daughter of the late Will and Melvina (Lawson) Turner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Dow McDonald and Johnny B. McDonald; two sons, John McDonald and an infant son; and a step-son, Hugh McDonald.

Survivors include three daughters, Kay Smith and her husband, Gene, of Livingston; Carolyn Upchurch of Alpine; and Tonie Anderson and her husband, Greg, of Long Beach, CA; a step-daughter, Genevie Hall and her husband, Curtis; a step-son, Don McDonald and his wife, Aline; a step-daughter-in-law, Lois McDonald; 5 grandchildren, Denise Arkon and her husband, Don, Deloris Swindell and her husband, Gary, Rhonda Upchurch, Chris Collins and his wife, Paige, and Scott Collins; 3 great grandchildren, Jaclyn Overstreet, Taylor Collins, and Carson Collins; 9 step-grandchildren, Ann Anderson, Kevan Anderson, Chad Anderson, Lynn Conrad, Carol Hall, Eddie Hall, Leslie Christensen, Duane McDonald, and Marcia Mattson; 12 step-great grandchildren, Tol Swindell, Hallie Swindell, Chris Arkon, Lincoln Hall, Ashley Hall, Samantha Hall, Lauren Conrad, Luke Conrad, Cody Christensen, Elizabeth Chris-tensen, Ryan Mattson, and Madeline Mattson; and 3 step-great-great grandchildren, Tristen Arkon, Max Anderson, and Jack Anderson.

Pallbearers were Gary Swindell, Tol Swindell, Don Arkon, Bill Bilbrey, Bob Bilbrey, and Keith Ledford.

THOMAS EDWARD PARRIS Jr.
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Edward Parris Jr., 43, of Jacksonville, FL, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Albany, GA.

Private graveside services followed in Cedar Hill cemetery in Dawson, GA.

Mr. Parris died Friday, April 2 in a car accident. He was reared in Dawson, and graduated from Terrell Academy in 1979. He received a bachelor of science degree in Political Science from University of Georgia in 1984. He had a distinguished career with the Department of Treasury, United States Customs Service as a special agent.

He was on temporary assignment for the World Trade Center Recovery Effort in 2002 in New York City. In 2003, he was assigned to the Carrier Security Initiative in Sweden, which looked for weapons of mass destruction that terrorists hide in shipping containers en route to the United States.

He was a member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation North Florida Joint Terrorism Task Force, which investigated terrorist groups that could be working secretly in the United States. He was the lead United States Customs investigator in the Jacksonville office for "Operation Predator", an undercover operation to identify pedophiles attempting to meet underage children in internet chat rooms. He was the Number one agent in North Florida for "Operation Predator". This operation resulted in the arrest and prosection of pedophiles. He was also instrumental in the arrest and prosection of several large narcotics violators.

At age 12, he became a member of the Church of Christ. As an adult, he became a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. He was also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Florida. He was a charter member of the University of Georgia Alumni Association and the Jacksonville Bulldog Club.

He loved to travel, having visited such places as France, Austria, Germany, Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Russia in his younger days. He wanted to instill his love for travel in his family by taking vacations in Alaska, New York, and Sweden.

He especially loved to go camping every summer with his family and his parents at Sunset Marina on Dale Hollow Lake near Byrdstown. He was very involved in his children's lives and had been a coach of both sons' soccer teams for several years.

Born January 5, 1961, in Monroe, he was the son of the late Thomas E. and Nell R. Parris.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra (Bridges) Parris; two sons, Thomas Edward III and Grant Hunter; a daughter, Ansley Katherine; three sisters, Pam Hooks, Linda Parris, and Jennifer Norman; and the children's godparents, Tommy Mitchell and his wife, Barbara. He also considered his United States Customs co-workers as part of his family.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund has been established for the children at the Bank of Terrell, 250 E. Lee Street, Dawson, GA, 39842.

BERTHA N. WINNINGHAM ROAME
Funeral services for Mrs. Bertha N. Winningham Roame, 84, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Burial was in White cemetery with Bro. Tom Greenwood, Bro. Ralph McDonald, Bro. Marlon Winningham, and Bro. Cecil Shaw officiating.

Mrs. Roame died Saturday, April 10 at her home. She was a seamstress for more than 30 years at Livingston Shirt Factory and a member of Free Communion Church of Christ, Monroe Home Demonstration Club, and Bolestown Women's Club.

Born May 7, 1919, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Wolford R. and Henrietta (Holt) White. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Clester Winningham and Amos Roame; a granddaughter, Candice Winningham; a sister, Nora; four brothers, Shirley, Alford Lee, William Wolford, and Alphas; three half-sisters, Zona, Nola, and Mayson; and five half-brothers, Albert Hershel, Farley, George, Edgar Bill, and Ermine.

Survivors include three sons, Marlon M. Winningham, J.D. Winningham, and Tony Winningham, all of Livingston; two daughters, Nancy Nolen of Livingston and Linda Lamson of Ocala, FL; 8 grandchildren, Tim Nolen, Jackie Copeland, Mechelle Nivens, Jason Winningham, Chris Winningham, Shantell Coleman, Stacye Choate, and Andy Winningham; and 13 great grandchildren, Tate Nolen, Tanner Nolen, David Copeland, Will Copeland, Taylor Mac Nivens, Trent Nivens, Lauren Winningham, Kylor Winningham, Dylan Winningham, Gage Coleman, Emma Choate, Eli Choate, and Madalyn Winningham.

Pallbearers were Tim Nolen, Jason Winningham, Chris Winningham, Andy Winningham, Ray Douglas Winningham, and Delon Reeder. Serving as honorary pallbearers were James Norrod, Michael Choate, and Brian Smith.

TERI DENISE STADER
Funeral services for Mrs. Teri Denise Stader, 53, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home with Rev. Geoff Johnson officiating. The family chose cremation.

Mrs. Stader died Friday, April 9 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a nurse and attended Living Faith Tabernacle.

Born November 14, 1950, in Detriot, MI, she was the daughter of the late Florence Wyman.

Survivors include her husband, Randy Stader of Livingston; and seven children, Jeremy Kaiser, Michele Kaiser, Jason Kaiser, Dana Kaiser, Dany Kaiser, Justin Kaiser, and Kristin Kaiser.

BILLY RAY SWANN
Funeral services for Mr. Billy Ray Swann, 61, of Livingston, were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, 2004, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home.

Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery with Bro. Nolan Cantrell officiating.

Mr. Swann died Sunday, April 11 at his home. He was a carpenter and of the Baptist faith.

Born June 14, 1942, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Carlos and Nola Mae (Johnson) Swann. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Swann; and a granddaughter, Daianarah Taylor.

Survivors include his caregiver, Carole B. Nivens of Livingston; three daughters, Tina M. Dishman and Jeanette S. Winningham, both of Livingston, and Royce L. Taylor of Hilham; five sisters, Ann Norrod of Monroe, Linda Hodge of Twinton, Barbara Rico of Chattanooga, and Donnie Ingram and Martha Jean Rogers, both of Livingston; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Pallbearers were Brian Winningham, Johnny Winningham, Wesley Taylor, James Rogers, Bill Norrod, and Randall Wall.

RUTH NETA TERRY
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Neta Terry, 94, of Barberton, OH, and formerly of Overton County, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004, at Maxwell Chapel Church of God.

Burial will be in Hilham cemetery with Rev. Virgil Brainam officiating.

Mrs. Terry died Saturday, April 10 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. She was a seamstress for Livingston Shirt Factory and a member of Maxwell Chapel Church of God.

Born March 12, 1910, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Lou Upton. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Terry; a son, Jesse Terry; a daughter, Velma Brown; two granddaughters, Linda Fleming and Vanetta Way; and a brother, Delmus Upton.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Terry and Glen Terry and his wife, Linda; five daughters, Gladys Fleming and her husband, Melvin, Lois Nash and her husband, Marvin, Pearl Delong and her husband, Frank, Reba Romig and her husband, Jim, and Ruby Dillon and her husband, Lester; a brother, Douglas Upton; 25 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; and 19 great-great grandchildren.

DEWEY RICHARD CARR
Funeral services for Mr. Dewey Richard Carr, 82, of Livingston, were conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating.

Mr. Carr died Tuesday, September 16 at his home. He worked as a clerk at Speck Bros. Hardware and was a farmer. He was of the Baptist faith, a World War II Army veteran, and a member of the VFW.

Born November 2, 1920, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Sim and Ada (Walker) Carr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Illa C. Carr; four brothers, Willis Carr, Willard Carr, Dillon Carr, and Wilborn "Buddy" Carr; two sisters, Auda Eldridge and Eunice Dale; and a great granddaughter, July Dillon.

Survivors include a son, Cledis Dewel Carr and his wife, Tammy, of Livingston; three daughters, Judy Dillon and her husband, Aron, and Helen Garrett and her husband, Kenneth, all of Livingston, and Mable Copeland and her husband, Steve, of Alpine; two brothers, Clyde Carr and Jimmy Carr, both of Livingston; a sister, Colleen Eldridge of Dayton, OH; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a special friend, Betty (Ogletree) Hunter.

Pallbearers were Wayne Dishman, Bryan Dishman, Travis Dishman, Scott Dishman, Eric Dillon, and Craig Copeland.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ginger Neely, Kimberly Hawkins, Sara Greenwood, and Emily Carr.

NORMAN G. "GREENVILLE" COPELAND
Graveside services for Mr. Norman G. "Greenville" Copeland, 63, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 20, 2003, from Copeland cemetery with Bro. Allen Steele officiating.

Mr. Copeland died Thursday, September 18 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a sign maker and served in the United States Navy.

Born January 28, 1940, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Hughie and Maggie (Parrish) Copeland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Francis Ruth Fields.

Survivors include two sons, Earl Glen Copeland and his wife, Gail Laree, of Grand Junction, CO, and Kevin Dale Copeland and his wife, Gretchen, of Livingston; a sister, Patsy Ann Shepard of Hermitage; a brother, Earl Douglas Copeland of Hermitage; two step-grandchildren; and his dearest friend, Ken Clark of Rickman.

Pallbearers were Steve Lancaster, Ronnie Bull, Frank Pig, Coy Nation, Donnie Clark, Kenneth Clark, and Kirby Clark.

THOMAS CORDELL "TOM" LOOPER
Funeral services for Mr. Thomas Cordell "Tom" Looper, 81, of Hanging Limb, were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2003, from the chapel of Horner Funeral Home in Cookeville.

Burial was in Fellowship cemetery with Rev. Kevin Phillips officiating.

Mr. Looper died Friday, September 19 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a retired farmer and attended Mineral Springs Baptist Church.

Born June 18, 1922, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Samuel and Alta (Coltar) Looper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Auda (Ferrell) Looper; five sisters, Lutha Hargis, Cora Wilson, Artie Brewer, Dolly Deck, and Linnie Ann Hammock; and eight brothers, Dan Looper, Coy Looper, Odell Looper, Bennie Looper, Quinton Looper, William Looper, Foister Looper, and Dock Looper.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa Bilbrey Smith Looper; two daughters, Betty Buckner and Bennie McCowan and her husband, Jimmy, all of Mt. Juliet; three grandchildren, Robbie Buckner of Mt. Juliet, Kevin McCowan of Lebanon, and Terry McCowan of Kingston Springs; and five great grandchildren, Caitlin McCowan, Kelsey McCowan, John McCowan, Patrick McCowan, and Jordan Buckner.

Pallbearers were Gerald Cumby, Laddie Key, Ronald Coleman, Robbie Buckner, Kevin McCowan, and Terry McCowan.

ARVIN LANCE PIGG
Funeral services for Mr. Arvin Lance Pigg, 78, of Hilham, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 18, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Bro. Dewey Glenn Masters and Bro. Tom Greenwood officiating.

Mr. Pigg died Monday, September 15 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a farmer, a school bus driver, and a janitor. He was of the Church of Christ faith and a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.

Born February 21, 1925, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Hubert and Ella (Ayers) Pigg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Barlow; and two grandchildren, Dustin Pigg and Crystal Huddleston.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma Jean Pigg of Hilham; six sons, Kenny Pigg, Frank Pigg, David Pigg, Donald Pigg, and Jerry Pigg, all of Hilham, and Clifton Pigg of Livingston; two daughters, Elaine Daniels of Monroe and Pam Huddleston of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother, Lear Pigg of Cookeville; two sisters, Joliet Scrimager of Memphis and Lois McDonald of Jacksonville, FL; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Edd Long, Jason Daniels, Allen Shelton, Terry Melton, Ray Austin, and Brad Edens.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Terry Pigg, Johnnie Pigg, Jacob Daniels, Jake Pigg, Charlie Huddleston, Dustin Pigg, Billy Joe Maxwell, and Robert Boles.
