BURKS, Glenn, age 63 of Fayetteville died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the VA Hospital. He was born on March 28, 1942 in Franklin County, the son of Adie K. and Ethel (Watson) Burks. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran and a member of the DAV. Mr. Burks was preceded in death by his parents, Adie and Ethel Watson Burks and a brother, Wayne Burks. He is survived by his wife, Martha Judy Burks of Fayetteville and two brothers, Stanley (Naomi) Burks of Manchester and Arthur Burks of Arkansas. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 1 p.m. in the Lynchburg Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William McNatt officiating. Interment was in the Flintville Cemetery in Flintville. Lynchburg Funeral Home, LLC in charge of arrangements, 759-4444.

BUTLER, Donald Jeffrey "Jeff," age 58 of Paris, TN died Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis. Mr. Butler was married on August 17, 1968 to Sue Glasner, who survives. He retired in Oct. 2004 after 31 years as a Civil Engineer with TVA. Mr. Butler was a member of the First Baptist Church in Estill Springs. He served his country in the U.S. Army. Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Gray Butler, mother, Emma Jean Cowan Butler, two sons, Bryan Michael Butler and Jeremy Cayce Butler (died 2-18-06) and in-laws Jodie and Margaret S. Glasner. He is survived by his wife, Sue Glasner Butler of Paris; two sons, Jeffrey Alex (Stephanie) Butler and Jarrod Kyle (Karen) Butler, all of Dallas, TX; sister, Jackie (Tom) Madden of Morristown, NJ; two brothers, Michael (Michele) Butler of Tullahoma and Gregory (Sylvia) Butler of Brentwood; four grandchildren, Haley and Morgan Butler and Maddie and Kailee Birdsong; nieces, Kristin (Jason) Black, Heather and Nicole Tucker and Lindsey and Stephanie Madden; six nephews, Jase (Melanie) Brandon, Jody Tucker, Clay and Lee Johnson and Ryan and Joshua Butler; sister and brothers-in-law, James Kenny (Kathy) Brandon and Raymond (Mitzi) Tucker, all of Winchester. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at 4 p.m. at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris. Graveside services were conducted on Monday, March 6, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester with clergy Leon Williams officiating. CARTER, Elmer, age 75 of Winchester, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Lincoln County and was an equipment mechanic. Mr. Carter served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Dot) Carter of Winchester; three daughters, Cathy Lynn Jones of Nashville, Marcia Ann Carter of Chicago, IL and Melanie Anglin of Lynchburg; a brother, Velton C. Carter of Winchester; three sisters, Rose Thompson of Nashville, Flora Weaver of Bushnell, IL and Jean Agerton of Winchester; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Brown officiating. Interment was in Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester. Serving as pallbearers were: Steve Young, Joe Ed Williams, Jerry Little, Eddie Clark, Bill Cronan, Larry Timbs and Mackie Cullins. The Men’s Sunday School Class at the Cowan First Baptist Church served as honorary pallbearers. The family has requested memorials be made to the Cowan First Baptist Church. STEPHENS, Charles Howard, age 74 of Hixson died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Erlanger Medical Center. He was born in Sherwood and was an iron worker last employed by TVA. Mr. Stephens served his country in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Louise Stephens, two sisters, Pauline Stephens and Florence Perryman and a brother, Hugh Stephens. Mr. Stephens is survived by his wife, Ethel Stephens of Hixson; three daughters, Debbie Stephens of Hixson and Donna Williams and Charlene Cribbs, both of Soddy-Daisy; two sons, Phillip Stephens and Jeffrey Stephens, both of Hixson; three sisters, Irene Douglas of Fort Wayne, IN and Faye Isbell and Sue Alexander, both of Gallatin; a brother, Paul Stephens of Cowan; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carter Paden and Sister Lucy Shetters officiating. CLARK, Harvey Edward "Ted," age 73 of Winchester, died Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Sunbridge Nursing Home. He was born in Winchester and was disabled. He is survived by three brothers, Paul Delbert Clark, Jimmy J. Clark and Dozier Clark, all of Winchester and a sister, Sara Wolff of Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Forsyth and Rev. Terry Huffer officiating. TAYLOR, Robert J., age 39 of Huntland, passed away Friday, March 3, 2006. Robert was a 1985 graduate of Huntland High School and had been employed by Shaw Industries for 15 years. He was an avid fisherman. His father, Robert Horton and maternal grandparents, James and Jeannette Taylor, preceded him in death. Robert is survived by his wife, Debbie Taylor, his mother, Alice Taylor of Huntland, paternal grandparents Lester and Irene Horton of Belvidere and several aunts, uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 7 p.m. from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of the Watson-North Funeral Home. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. MADDRON, Dorothy "Dottie" Suanne, age 21 of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, March 04, 2006. She is survived by her mother, Sandra Maddron of Cowan; brothers, Christopher Allen Branon and Billy James Choate of Georgia; a sister, April Hunter of Georgia; aunts and uncles, Gloria Jean Maddron, Mike L. Maddron, David L. Maddron and Johnny Maddron; and guardians and caregivers, Sondra and Gerald Hutchins of Shelbyville. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, March 08, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of the Watson-North Funeral Home with Elder Ron Adams, officiating. ASHLEY, George Elmer, age 47 of Hanceville, Ala. died Wednesday, March 8, 2006. He was born in Huntland and was a self-employed carpenter. He is survived by his wife, Terresa Ashley of Hanceville, Ala.; two sons, George Hardy Ashley of Jasper, Ala. and Joshua Allen Ashley of Cullman, Ala.; a daughter, Melissa Marie Short of Jasper, Ala.; father and mother, Emmitt Ashley and Betty Steele, both of Cullman, Ala.; four sisters, Kathy Ashley of New Market, Ala., Anita L. Campbell of Cardova, Ala., Pamela Ashley of Hickory Flatt, MS and Emiley Ashley of Cullman, Ala.; a brother, Mark Dean Ashley of Hanceville, Ala.; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, March 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Keith Springs Cemetery in Franklin County. GILLIAM, James Preston, Sr., age 90, of Muncie, Ind., formerly of Parker City, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at his son’s residence in Monticello, Ky. The son of Sam and Anna Gilliam, Mr. Gilliam was born on August 12, 1915 in Alto, Tenn. After attending school in Franklin County, Tenn., he played minor league baseball in the Southern League, prior to becoming a ship welder during WW II. Moving to the Muncie area, Mr. Gilliam was employed with Chevrolet for 25 years as a welder, retiring in 1978. Mr. Gilliam was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and in his leisure enjoyed fishing and playing several musical instruments. Mr. Gilliam is survived by his two daughters, Carol Saunders (Merrill), of Selma and Billie Messersmith (Chuck) of Winchester; three sons, Frank, (Connie), of Monticello, KY, Jim P. Jr., (Pam) of Bronston, KY and David (Karen) of Muncie; a sister, Lois Sherrill of Ala.; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Mr. Gilliam was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Hazel; a granddaughter; two grandsons; a brother; five sisters; and his parents. Services will be Friday, March 17, 2006 at 10 a.m. in The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory Chapel with Rev. Dennis Rush officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie. Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday, March 16 from 4-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the services Friday. HILL, Lindsey Grace, age 91 of Memphis, died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at her home. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Family Funeral Care. Interment took place Thursday, March 15 at Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd. She was preceded in death by a son, John Gary and a daughter, Jane Dale. She is survived by a daughter, Nova Gayle Pannell of Memphis; a son, Paul E. Lindsey of Memphis; two sisters, Velma Coffelt of Decherd and Ann Bonds of Memphis; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. DAVIS, Barbara, age 64 of Winchester, went to her maker on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2006 at her home in Winchester. Barbara chose to be cremated. A memorial service celebrating her life is planned at the Winchester First United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 1, 2006 at 11 a.m. Rev. John Halliburton, pastor of the Winchester First United Methodist Church, will conduct the service. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. John Jefferson and Wanda P. Davis, also of Winchester, She is survived by her brother, Dr. Bill Davis and his wife, Sally of Estill Springs and her brother Joe Davis of Annandale, Va. and their families. Barbara served as a nurse for many years at Beverly Healthcare of Winchester and was active at the Winchester First United Methodist Church. Her interests were her family, animals, the outdoors, especially birds and mountains, and reading. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: the Winchester First United Methodist Church Building Fund, the Winchester Rotary Scholarship Fund, or to the Good Samaritan Center of Decherd, TN.

KELLEY, Dora Marie, age 77 of Huntsville, Ala. died Sunday, March 12, 2006 at her residence. She was born on April 5, 1928 in Lincoln County, Tenn., the daughter of the late Robert Elijah Swing and Susie (Askins) Swing. She was employed in security and janitorial work. Mrs. Kelley was a member of the Ross Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kirkland Kelley, two brothers, Paul and Robert Swing and a sister, Mildred Daniels. Survivors include: two daughters, Lavada Sue (Steve) Pitts and Mary Ruth Wilhoite, both of Huntsville, Ala.; four sons, Patrick Wayne (Lynn) Kelley of Estill Springs, John Kirkland (Barbara) Kelley and Robert W. (Doanna) Kelley, both of Moore Co and James Edward (Sherry Lynn) Kelley of Scottsboro, Ala..; two brothers, Joe L. and James T. Swing, both of Fayetteville; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 2 p.m. at the Lynchburg Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ricky D. Smith officiating. Interment was in the Smith Chapel Cemetery in Lynchburg. Lynchburg Funeral Home, Lynchburg, in charge of arrangements.

JACKS, Jesse Pauline, age 86 of Huntland died Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Huntsville Hospital. She was born in Jackson County, Ala. and was a Beautician. Mrs. Jacks is survived by her husband, Marion Jacks, Jr. of Huntland; a son, Annis Leverl (Billie) Green of Estillfork, Ala.; a step-daughter, Rene Eloise Syler of Huntland; a grandson, Timothy Leverl Green of Scottsboro, Ala.; a great-granddaughter, Brittney Arlene Morris of Winchester; and great-grandsons, Timothy Ryan Green and Tysce Leverl Green, both of Princeton, Ala. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Huntsville. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. PATTON, Darnell, age 40 of Winchester, died Friday March 10, 2006 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center. A native of Franklin County, he was a member of The Original Church of God. Mr. Patton is preceded in death by his mother, Vonetta Perkins Simpson, father, Edward Patton, Jr. and his maternal grandmother, Clara Perkins. He is survived by his wife of seventeen and a half years, Tina Patton; his daughter, Tia Patton; his son, Darnell D. "D J" Patton, all of Winchester; his brother, Darryl L. (Corina) Patton of Houston, TX; step-father, Ronnie Simpson of Peariland, TX; maternal grandfather, Oscar T. Perkins of Winchester; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. The funeral service was conducted from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Thursday March 16, 2006 with Timothy Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Winchester City Cemetery with friends and family members serving as pallbearers. Visitation was Wednesday 5-9 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service at Watson-North Funeral Home.
