VELMA B. HOOD
Funeral services for Mrs. Velma B. Hood, 80, of Livingston, were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.
Burial was in Carter Bilbrey cemetery with Bro. Mark Phillips officiating.
Mrs. Hood died Sunday, August 29 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a retired garment factory worker and a member of Three Forks Baptist Church.
Born August 6, 1924, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Lafayette and Sarah Amelia "Sally" (Masters) Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hood; four sisters, Verdia Barlow, Inez Smith, Thelma Bartlett (her twin), and Eva Rodger; and three brothers, Lester Brown, Albert Brown, and Clyde Brown.
Survivors include three daughters, Claudette Borden of Hudson, FL, and Paulette Sidwell and Sharlotte Lewis, both of Livingston; a sister, Ella Mae Bilbrey of Livingston; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Don Turley, Jimmy Hood, Billy Hood, Jerry Brown, Junior Little, and Danny Brown.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Josh Sidwell, Ryan Lewis, Jeff Maynord, Ritchie Little, Michael Sells, and Steve Beed.

EULLA LOOPER
Funeral services for Miss Eulla Looper, 87, of Monterey, were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2004, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey.
Burial was in Looper cemetery in the Pleasant Shade Community with Rev. Bud Hargis and Rev. Eugene McCowan officiating.
Miss Looper died Wednesday, August 25 at Standing Stone Health Care and Rehabilitation Center in Monterey. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Fairview Freewill Baptist Church in Livingston.
Born December 19, 1916, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Vicie (Phipps) Looper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Oral Looper, Bill Looper, and Clyde Looper; and three sisters, Bertia Emily Looper, Ella D. Looper, and Lula Mae Looper.
Survivors include a sister, Anna Jewel Short of Monterey; a brother, Rev. Coleman Looper and his wife, Marie, of Rickman; and three sisters-in-law, Hallie B. Looper of Rickman, Gladys Looper of Monterey; and Minnie Looper of Anderson, IN.

ODIOUS "BUCK" MCCORMICK
Funeral services for Mr. Odious "Buck" McCormick, 78, of Crawford, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Rickman.
Burial was in Harris Chapel cemetery with Bro. David Wilson and Bro. Claudell Honeycutt officiating.
Mr. McCormick died Monday, August 23 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He did yard work, farm work, and was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
Born March 14, 1926, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Tom and Ethel (Swallows) McCormick. In additionto his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest McCormick and Haskel McCormick.
Survivors include two sisters, Geneva Cooper and Juanita McCormick, both of Rickman. Pallbearers were Macky Reed, Darrell McCormick, Bob Ellingwood, David Cooper, Donald Cooper, and William Carew.

CPL. BRAD PRESTON MCCORMICK
Funeral services for Corporal Brad Preston McCormick, 23, of Rickman, were conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday, August 26, 2004, at the Livingston Academy gymnasium.
A military service was conducted, with full honors performed by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Burial was in Netherland cemetery with Bro. Mark Loftis, Bro. Marlon Winningham, and Bro. A.J. Cox officiating.
Mr. McCormick died Wednesday, August 18 in Najaf, Iraq. A Marine Corps Reserve, serving in the I Company, 3rd Batallion, 24th Marine Regiment in the 1st Marine Division, he was employed with the Claims Department of Tennessee Farmers Insurance Company and was a member of Netherland Church of Christ.
Born October 1, 1980, in Putnam County, he was the son of Keith and Gail (Seber) McCormick of Allons. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Loyd Seber and Arvis McCormick.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include his wife, Courtney (Curtis) McCormick of Rickman; a brother, Blake McCormick of Allons; and his grandmothers, Marie McCormick of Livingston and Willa Dean Seber of Allons.
Members of the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard served as pallbearers.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were Cpl. Jamie Greenwood, Cpl. Andy Ledbetter, Lance Cpl. Brandon Geesling, Derek Parsons, Beau Johnson, and K.L. Winningham.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Brad McCormick Memorial Fund at First National Bank of Tennessee to Benefit the United States Marines Toys for Tots program and to Netherland Church of Christ.

ROBERT BILLY "BILL" NEWBERRY
Funeral services for Mr. Robert Billy "Bill" Newberry, 65, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 24, 2004, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home.
Burial was in Monroe cemetery with Bro. Marlon Winningham officiating.
Mr. Newberry died Sunday, August 22 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was an electrician, a plumber, and a member of Holly Springs Church of Christ. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force.
Born December 11, 1938, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Fate and Margie (Boatman) Newberry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dean Newberry; and a daughter, Sandra Margie Newberry.
Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Crawford and Gail Coffman, both of Livingston, and Charlotte Ford of Rickman; a sister, Pamela Dinkins of Byrdstown; a brother, Jimmy Newberry of Hilham; eight grandchildren; a great grandchild; nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends; and a very special friend, Betty G. Long, of Livingston.
Pallbearers were Ray Taylor, Jerry Windle, Charlie Ray, Wade Ford, Shane Newberry, and Brian Johnson.

JOYCE LAVERNE PLUMLEE
Funeral services for Mrs. Joyce Laverne Plumlee, 67, of Moss, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2004, from the chapel of Hall Funeral Home in Celina.
Burial was in Moss cemetery with Bill Ramsey officiating. Mrs. Plumlee died Saturday, August 28 at NHC Healthcare in Cookeville.
Born March 11, 1937, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Margie (Sledge) Cornwell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hunter Plumlee; two brothers, William Henry Cornwell and Rondel Dean Cornwell; and a sister, Barbara Norman.
Survivors include two sons, Henry Plumlee of Rickman and Michael Cornwell of Westmoreland; a daughter, Regina Holloway of Baxter; three brothers, S.B. Cornwell and Ray "Buck" Cornwell, both of Scottsville, KY, and Timmy Cornwell of Westmoreland; four sisters, Wilma West and Pansy Powell, both of Scottsville, Martine Lucas and Ida McGuffey, both of Bowling Green, KY; five grandchildren, Leslie Cornwell, Steven Cornwell, Joel Plumlee, Savannah Holloway, and Hunter Holloway; and three great grandchildren.

VEIKLE W. QUALLS
Funeral services for Mrs. Veikle W. Qualls, 82, of Rickman, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home in Rickman.

Mrs. Qualls died Saturday, August 28 at her home. She was the owner and operator of Qualls Service & Supply, a lifelong member of Harris Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, a lifelong member of the Ruertan Club, and a member of the Home Demonstration Club.
Born September 24, 1921, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Shirley C. and Magnolia (Livingston) Walker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claudene Qualls; a sister, Otha B. Honeycutt; a brother, Ershel Walker; and an infant brother.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda J. Bilbrey and her husband, J. Phillip, of Rickman; a brother, Douglas Walker, and his wife, Patsy, of Rickman; a sister, Essie Jane Vollenhals and her husband, Jack, of Alexandria, IN; a granddaughter, Amy Renee Bilbrey of Rickman; and three very special friends, Robin Mackie, Sue Neal, and Earlene Dixon.

NORMA RUTH (LEE) QUALLS
Funeral services for Mrs. Norma Ruth (Lee) Qualls, 70, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 26, 2004, from the chapel of Livingston Funeral Home.
Burial was in Okolona cemetery with Bro. James Shaver and Bro. Arthur Hall officiating.
Mrs. Qualls died Tuesday, August 24 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a factory worker and a member of Livingston First Assembly of God.
Born January 4, 1934, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Myrtle (Kyle) Lee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Lee and Carson Lee; and a sister, Beatrice Coffee.
Survivors include two daughters, Janie Brown of Livingston and Elaine Isabell of Monterey; two sons, Ricky Qualls and Joe Qualls, both of Livingston; a sister, Geneva Garrett of Rickman; two brothers, Paul Lee of Byrdstown and Willie Lee of Monroe; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and nieces, and other family members and friends.
Pallbearers were Johnny Qualls, Jason Isabell, Justin Isabell, David Brown, Calep Wilson, and Baxter Hughes.

BRENDA JOYCE SPEARS
Funeral services for Mrs. Brenda Joyce Spears, 59, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, August 30, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.
Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Bro. A.J. Cox and Bro. Kent Terry officiating.
Mrs. Spears died Saturday, August 28 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She owned The Little Diner and was of the Church of Christ faith.
Born May 20, 1945, in Overton County, she was the daughter of Thurman and Ruth (Smith) Kennedy of Monroe. She was preceded in death by a baby sister, Judy Carol Kennedy.
Survivors, in addition to her parents, include her husband, Gary Spears of Livingston; two sons, Grant Spears and his wife, Twila, of Rickman, and Rocky Spears and his wife, Julie, of Livingston; a daughter, Tonya Vaughn and her husband, Tim, of Livingston; three sisters, Lois Jackson, Rita Goodpasture, and Tammy Norris, all of Livingston; and seven grandchildren, Blake Vaughn, Savannah Vaughn, Chance Spears, Summer Spears, Conner Spears, Clay Spears, and Cole Spears.
Pallbearers were Tim Vaughn, Blake Vaughn, Daryl Norris, Tom Goodpasture, Jamie Goodpasture, Bryan Spears, and Larry Buck.

Funeral services for Mr. Arnel Preston Watkins, 79, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.

Mr. Watkins died Saturday, August 28 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a farmer and a logger.
Born September 9, 1924, in Clay County, he was the son of the late William W. and Nova Lee (Murray) Watkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nova Lean Savage.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Watkins of Livingston; a son, Johnnie Watkins of Livingston; two brothers, Clifton Watkins of Illinois and Archie Watkins of Tennessee; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Roger Shelton, Tyler Watkins, Tyler Savage, Stephen Wells, Mike Savage, and Wayne Savage.

Mrs. Key died Thursday, July 31 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was a hostess at Shoney's and a member of Apostlistic Pentecostal Church.
Born October 29, 1934, in Clinton County, KY, she was the daughter of the late Jerry I. and Lillie Ooten Sell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lynn Akers.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Key of the Pleasant Ridge Community; a son, Kenneth Akers of New Castle, IN; a daughter, Anita Akers of Rickman; a step-daughter, Julia Key of Anderson, IN; four step-sons, John David Key and Joseph Michael Key, both of Anderson, Jason M. Key of Elwood, IN, and Lt. Col. James Daniel Key of Germany; two sisters, Mary Halsell of New Castle and Nova McDowell of Spencer; 14 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
