HASTINGS, Marguerite Wiseman, age 87, passed away Monday March 13, 2006 at Trinity Hospital in Erin, Tenn. Mrs. Hastings was a 1937 graduate of the Winchester High School and a member of the Decherd United Methodist Church for more than 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, E. D. Hastings; a daughter Linda Hastings Garner; a sister, Sue Williams; a brother, M.L. Wiseman; and a grandson, Sean Eric Hastings. She is survived by her daughter, Gail (Harold) Fraley of Winchester; son Ron (Betty) Hastings of Erin; grandchildren, Lindsey, Ernie, and Dean Garner, Ronnie and Rodney Hastings and Deana Murray; and 11 great–grandchildren. The funeral service was conducted from the chapel of Watson-North Funeral Home on Thursday March 16, 2006 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Matthew Trussell officiating. Interment followed in the Mount Garner Cemetery with friends and family serving as pallbearers. HILL, Edgar Lee, age 83 of Winchester died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Sunbridge Nursing Home. He was born in Winchester and was an Auto Mechanic. Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his parents, Ed Hill and Rose Kelley Hill, his wife, Johnnie Mae Hill and a son, Edgar Wayne Hill. He is survived by his companion, Nancy Dears of Winchester; two daughters, Patricia Davis of Decherd and Brenda Black of Estill Springs; two sons, James Floyd Hill and Andrew Lee Hill, both of Winchester; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Gardner and Rev. Teddy McCallie officiating. Interment will be in the Mt. SYLER, Kathleen, age 83 of Providence, Ky. died Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Harbor Side Health System in Owensboro, Ky. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Providence. Mrs. Syler was also a member of the Eastern Star # 304 and Daughters of the NILE, where she had served as a past Grand Esther of the OES. She is survived by her spouse, Bill Syler of Providence, Ky.; two sons, Dr. Stephen Syler of Tell City, Ind. and Danny Syler of Providence, Ky.; four granddaughters, Stephanie Metrick, Amy Hollinden, Lista McCully and Landy Syler; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Cullison of Lexington, Ky. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 11 a.m. at Melton Funeral Home in Providence, Ky. with Rev. Kenneth McKinney officiating. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Providence, Ky. Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Friday, March 17. GIFFORD, Thelma, age 78 of Keith Springs, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006 at her residence. Mrs. Gifford was a member of the Keith Springs Baptist Church and was the first member to be baptized there. She worked as a nursing assistant at Harton Hospital in Tullahoma, volunteered for FCSD Ladies Auxiliary and was an avid member of the Keith Springs Community Club. Her husband of 29 years, Floyd Gifford and a son, Freddie Gifford, preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Thomas Farrel (Jackie) Gifford of Broadview; two daughters, Joyce (Monte) Perkins of Keith Springs and Vickie (Terry) Grammer of Broadview; grandchildren, Beth Lentz, Katie Smith, Julie Larson, Missy Gifford, Tommy Gifford, Clayton Perkins, Billy Perkins, Jason Stephens, Floyd Stephens, Selena Grammer, Tara Brewer and Terry Grammer, Jr.; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Judge of Broadview; sisters, Jewel (Edwin) Keller of Keith Springs and Janette (Douglas) Fairbanks of Skyline, Ala. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 1 p.m. from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of the Watson-North Funeral Home with Rev. Chuck Wilkerson, officiating. DEVINE, Sharon Denise, age 47 of Decherd, Tenn. died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. She was born in Winchester and was a Paralegal. Mrs. Devine was preceded in death by her husband, James Devine and mother, Hilda M. Barnes. She is survived by a son, Justin Richard Scharber of Huntsville, Ala.; father, Curtis Loyd Barnes of Decherd; a sister, Donna Hunter of Winchester; and a nephew, Jeremy Little of Winchester. JACKSON, Lawrence, age 93 of Cowan, Tenn. died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester, Tenn. He was born in Sherwood and was a Contractor. After retirement, Mr. Jackson was an avid woodworker and gardener. Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Marjorie M. Jackson of Cowan; a daughter, Marian J. McDonald of Cowan; a granddaughter, Melissa Ann Garner of Cowan; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Faith Garner of Cowan; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Gardner officiating. Interment will be in the Cowan Montgomery Cemetery. GARNER, William Edward "Ed," age 90 of Decherd, Tenn. died Sunday, March 19, 2006 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. He was born in Sherwood and was retired from L&N Railroad. He was a long-time employee of Morris Ferry Boat Dock. Mr. Garner served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Edna Garner and baby daughter, Bertha. Mr. Garner is survived by a sister, Hazel Rogers of Sherwood; a son, Arthur (Rheba) Garner of Cowan; a daughter, Sue (Garry) Puckett of Springfield; and grandchildren, Jimbo, Heather (Bryan), Luke (Heather), Caleb, Clay, Jake, Stacia April, Robert (Lori), Andy (Melinda) and Marcus; 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous loving friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at 3 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Bryan Barrett officiating. BROOKS, Harry L. (Bud), of Winchester, Tenn., formerly of Tucson, Ariz., and a native of Flint, Mich., passed through the gate to be with our Lord in heaven on Friday, March 24, 2006. Waiting there for him was his mother, Rosemary, his father, Harry Sr., children, John, Vicki and Dennis, and grandson, Michael. Harry is survived by his wife, Ruby Chris Brooks of Winchester; daughters, Angela and Samantha Nicole; son, Scott; grandchildren, Tosha, Emma, Christopher, Brooke, Blake, Mattie, Gaven, Kyle and Kelsey; sisters, Roslyn, Sharon, Cindy and Marybeth; and father-in-law, James D. Norwood. Harry made his home in Winchester for the past nine years where he enjoyed spending time with children and the elderly. Harry cherished the opportunity to volunteer his help to the local schools playing as Santa and the Easter Bunny for the children in the community. He spent many hours visiting with his friends at the Franklin County Seniors Center and singing and witnessing to the glory of his Lord and Savior at local nursing homes. Harry spent 25 years in Tucson, Ariz. where he retired from Pima County Wastewater Management. He was a member of the Gold Wing Retread Motorcycle Club, where he enjoyed cross country rides visiting with his grandchildren in Michigan and Tennessee. As a heart transplant recipient of 13 years and two-time cancer survivor, he highly supported organ donation and participating with the Multi-County Cancer Support Network. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Brooks will be held on Friday, March 31 at 3 p.m. at the Watson-North Funeral Home in Winchester with Rev. Brian Nave officiating. UPCHURCH, Katherine Mason, age 76, passed away Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Life Care Center in Tullahoma. Ms. Upchurch was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Georgia Mason, sisters, Annie B. Morrow and Louise Brannon and brothers, Roy Mason, Jr., Davis Mason, Willie D. Mason and James Mason. Mrs. Upchurch is survived by her sisters, Georgia Mae Tate of Sewanee, Betty Carden and Sarah Vaughn of Winchester; brother, Herman (Bertha) Mason of Winchester; sister-in-law, Leatha Mason of Winchester; and a host of nieces and nephews. The funeral service was conducted Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 2:30 p.m. from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of the Watson-North Funeral Home with Elder Clarence McGee officiating. SAMPLE, John Ibra, age 56 of Winchester, Tenn. died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Manchester, Tenn. and did engineer and construction work. Mr. Sample served his country in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Decherd Church of Christ. Mr. Sample is survived by his wife, Princess Sample of Winchester; four brothers, Charles R. Sample of Cleveland, Thomas Sample of Lynchburg, Frank Kevin Sample of Estill Springs and Tracy Lee Sample of Manchester; three sisters, Cathy Rackley of Tullahoma, Sara Ann Stephens of Clinton and Becky Carr of Oxford, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dale Andrews officiating. DAVIDSON, Harris Lee "H. L.," age 69 of Winchester, passed away Friday, March 24, 2006 at his residence. Mr. Davidson was a member of the Decherd 567 Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Pat Davidson; two daughters, Sherri (Greg) McCallie of Bossier City, LA and Shawn (Dave) Morgan of Greensboro, NC; Joel Gipson of Winchester; brothers, Billy Joe (Dot) Davidson of Cowan and John M. (Louise) Davidson of Winchester; and grandchildren, Whitney McCallie and Cooper Morgan. His love and generosity graced us all, we will miss him. SMITH, Carl Thomas, age 67 of Belvidere, Tenn. died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma. He was born in Winchester and was a machinist last employed by Dana Corp in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Mr. Smith served his country in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Smith; parents, General Smith and Rhoda Jones Smith, three brothers, four sisters and two grandsons, William Benton Smith and Neal Howard Smith. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Faye Crawford Smith of Belvidere; a daughter, Rachel Charlotte Encke of Lebanon; two sons, Carl T. Smith of New Market and Kenny C. Smith of Meadows of Dan, Va.; two step-daughters, Jayda Adams of Belvidere and Banda Crawford of Jacksonville, Fla.; six sisters, Beulah Dickerson of Decherd, Rosa Hill of Estill Springs, Pernie Wright of Fort Wayne, Ind., Agnes Dickerson of Markle, Ind., Margie Lepper of Fort Wayne, Ind. and Patsy Marks of Pine Bush, N.Y.; a brother, Homer A. HOPKINS, Harold James, age 87 of Belvidere, Tenn. died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. He was born in Winchester and was a farmer and a member of the Bethel Methodist Church. Mr. Hopkins loved his family and he loved farming. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Warner Hopkins and Flora Bates Hopkins; his wife of 63 years, Goldie Hopkins; a son, Kenneth Hopkins; four brothers, Lawrence, Carl, Terrill and C.W. Hopkins; and three sisters, Ethel Wagner, Era Cole and Nellie Sawyers. He is survived by three daughters, Jewel (Clayton) Taylor of Estill Springs, Myra (Fred) Benson of Belvidere and Linda (Bill) Brewer of Winchester; a son, Wayne (Glenda) Hopkins of Estill Springs; daughter-in-law, Linda Hopkins of Belvidere; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
