DAYTON JUNIOR CRAVENS
Funeral services for Mr. Dayton Junior Cravens, better known as ÒViceroyÓ to his CB friends, 71, of Alpine, were conducted at noon Saturday, July 12, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial was in Falling Springs cemetery with Rev. Nolan Cantrell officiating.
Mr. Cravens died Thursday, July 10, at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a furniture factory worker and of the Baptist faith. Born July 28, 1931, in Overton County, he was the son of the late James B. and Auda (Hill) Cravens.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Cravens of Alpine; a son, Jeff Cravens of Cookeville; three daughters, Judy Winningham and Reda Cravens, both of Alpine, and Rhonda Long of Livingston; four brothers, Allen Cravens of Twinton, Clovis Cravens of Indiana, Ralph Cravens of Cravenstown, and Billy Cravens of Jamestown; four sisters, Effie Stover and Ethel Hill, both of Monroe, Ruby Frogge of Clarkrange, and Betty Abston of Mayland; five grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Phillip Moon, Roger Hargis, Gary Cravens, Terry Cravens, Russell Cravens, Josh Long, Andy Paul, and Jeff Walker.

WILLIAM ÒBILLÓ ARVLE FRANKLIN
Graveside services for Mr. William ÒBillÓ Arvle Franklin, 61, of Sparta, will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at Highland cemetery with John Murphy officiating.
Mr. Franklin died Sunday, July 13 at Summit Medical Center in Hermitage. He retired from the United States Navy as Senior Chief Petty Officer after 20 years. He was an employee of Emerson Mallory Controls and a member of Doyle Methodist Church.
Born July 7, 1942, in Cleveland, he was the son of Albert Arvle Franklin of Destin, FL, and the late Evela (Nolen) Hammontree.
Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Jeanne (Mitchell) Franklin; three daughters, Kristy Abell and Mandy Franklin, both of Sparta, and Dr. Wendy May of Knoxville; a sister, Barbara Franklin of Anderson, SC; and two granddaughters, Mollie Abell and Kristen Abell, both of Sparta.

KERMIT DUETT HILL
Funeral services for Mr. Kermit Duett Hill, 68, of Monroe, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial was in Booher cemetery with Rev. Randy Tompkins officiating. Mr. Hill died Friday, July 4 at his home. He was a truck driver and a member of Bethsaida Christian Church.
Born January 1, 1935, in Clay County, he was the son of the late Ezra and Alvia Rosetta (Smith) Hill. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Millie (Hill) Smith; and two brothers, Loye Hill and Cleo Hill. Survivors include his wife, Ethel (Cravens) Hill of Monroe; a son, Gregory ÒCrackerÓ Hill and wife, Letha; a daughter, Kim Craig and husband, Michael, of Albany, KY; a sister, Ora Dean Smith of Cincinnati, OH; six brothers-in-law, Billy M. Smith of Muncie, IN, Clovis Cravens and wife, Anna, Alan Cravens and wife, Lela, Dayton Cravens and wife, Nora, Ralph Cravens, who passed away Thursday, July 10, 2003, and wife, Lena, and Billy Cravens; four sisters-in-law, Faye Hill of Alpine, Effie Stover, Ruby Frogge and husband, W.S., and Betty Abston and husband, George; three grandchildren, Mikaela Craig, Madison Craig, and Taylor Hill; an aunt, Beatrice Wessendorf of Cincinnati; and a host of nieces and nephews.

GERTRUDE HONEYCUTT
Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Honeycutt, 79, of Brush Creek, were conducted Saturday, July 12, 2003, from the chapel of Avant Funeral Home in Alexandria. Burial was in Harris Chapel cemetery with Bro. Robert Amason officiating.
Mrs. Honeycutt died Wednesday, July 9 at University Medical Center in Lebanon.
Born April 14, 1924, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Bob Templeton and Verlie Harris. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Quint Honeycutt.
Survivors include a son, Gene Payton and wife, Glenda, of Brush Creek; a granddaughter, Gena Marie Payton and husband, Riggo, of Brush Creek; a grandson, John Payton and wife, Rachel, of Grant; four great grandchildren, Phillip Edgar Parker Jr., Pablo Christian Parker, Rigoberto Diaz Hernandez Jr., and Edgar Jonathon Payton Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

SARAH ELIZABETH HOOVER
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Hoover, 86, of Ft. Wayne, IN, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2003, from the chapel of Covington Memorial Funeral Home of Ft. Wayne. Burial was in Covington Memorial Gardens in Ft. Wayne.
Mrs. Hoover died Friday, July 11 at Renaissance Village Nursing Home. She was a registered nurse for more than 25 years and worked as a visiting nurse, a private nurse, and a volunteer nurse. She was a member of the Eastern Star Trinity Chapter 576, Shriners Widows, the Ft. Wayne WomenÕs Club, and the Methodist WomenÕs Club. She was born October 19, 1917, in Livingston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hoover;a sister, Magdalene Green; and a brother, Leon Harward.
Survivors include a daughter, Gail Cannon and husband, Keith, of Georgia; two sons, Forrest Hoover and wife, Darlene, and Clarence ÒButchÓ Hoover and wife, Virginia, all of Ft. Wayne; a brother, Sidney Harward of Livingston; a sister, Lois Jordan of Lansing, MI; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.

WILLIE EARNEST LOOPER
Funeral services for Mr. Willie Earnest Looper, 82, of the Harris Chapel Community of Overton County, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003, from the chapel of Horner Funeral Home in Monterey. Burial, with full military honors conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard, was in Pleasant Ridge cemetery with Rev. A.J. Looper and Harvey Farris officiating.
Mr. Looper died Tuesday, June 24 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart medal. He was a retired farmer and school bus driver for Overton County School System with 33 years of accident-free service. He was also a member of Christ Chapel United Methodist Church and served a number of years as Justice of the Peace in Overton County.
Born March 13, 1921, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Willie Joe and Martha Emma (England) Looper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Lou (Phillips) Looper; four sisters, Bessie Key, Myrtle Phillips, Ester Dixon, and Dorothy Henson; and two brothers, A.P. Looper and Herman Looper.
Survivors include three daughters, Kathleen Bilbrey and husband, Gary, and Dr. Donna Matthews and husband, Donnie, all of Rickman, and Pat Bowen and husband, Gary, of Franklin; two sons, David Looper and wife, Oye, of Almagourdo, NM, and Lowell Looper of Cookeville; four sisters, Velma Livingston and Artie Jane Sheets, both of Dayton, OH, Margree Anderson of Nashville, and Christine Phillips of Sparta; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Thomas Looper, Joseph Looper, Mike Julian, Brad Matthews, Kyle Matthews, and Chris Bowen.

JAMES THOMAS "JIMMIE" BROWN
Funeral services for Mr. James Thomas "Jimmie" Brown, 69, of Livingston, were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, April 26, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.
Burial was in Ruth Chapel cemetery with Jim McGie officiating.
Mr. Brown died Saturday, April 24 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was an electrician, a plumber, and a member of Ruth Chapel Cumberland Church. He attended Allons Baptist Church and was a special friend to the Amish.
Born July 25, 1934, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Willie C. and Zella Mae (Carmack) Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Brown of Allons; a son, Ricky Brown of Allons; a daughter, Sue Ann Goble of Allons; two sisters, Betty Lewis of Livingston and Ruth Cooper of Hilham; 14 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Mike McGie, Seth McGie, Wade Jewett, Nathan Hochstetler, Mark Hochstetler, and Jacob Weiler.

CHARLENE JOHNSON
Graveside services for Mrs. Charlene Johnson, 73, of Salt Lake City, UT, were conducted Friday, April 23, 2004, at Thompson cemetery in Gaston, IN.
Mrs. Johnson met her Heavenly Father on Saturday, April 17 after a brave battle with cancer. She moved to Gaston from Tennessee in 1948 with her husband, Elmer Johnson. They made Gaston their home for 55 years until 2003. Mrs. Johnson enjoyed gardening, homemaking, and spending time with family. Her laughter will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The Johnsons were members of Prairie Grove Church in Gaston.
Born June 3, 1930, in Monroe, she was the daughter of the late Charlie C. Davis and Rebecca Mae Davis Worley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Davis; and her step-father, J. Nesby Worley.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer, of Salt Lake City; a son, Kenneth, of Salt Lake City; and two grandchildren, Braden and Adele, both of Salt Lake City.

KENNETH EARL OAKLEY
Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth Earl Oakley, 66, of Livingston, were conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2004, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.
Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery with Bro. Earl Johnson officiating.
Mr. Oakley died Monday, April 19 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. He was a carpenter and a member of Jesus Precious Word Church.
Born December 8, 1937, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Shirley and Sarah Elizabeth (Hammons) Oakley.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Oakley of Livingston; a son, Tim Oakley of Livingston; a daughter, Debra Oakley of Livingston; and a grandson, Christopher Oakley of Livingston.

Mr. Reagan died Thursday, April 15 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a truck driver and of the Methodist faith.
Born April 13, 1972, in Overton County, he was the son of Norma Faye (Johnson) Reagan Abston of Allons and the late Johnny Reagan. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Glenn Reagan; and his grandparents, Roy and Belle Reagan, and Merman Clay and Freely Johnson.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his step-father, Elmer Abston of Allons; two daughters, Morgan Reagan and Kayla Cope, both of Livingston; two sons, Cody Reagan of Allons and Tyler Reagan of Livingston; two sisters, Melissa Diane Bilbrey of Allons and Meshaile Roberts of Livingston; a brother, Johnny Dwayne Reagan of Allons; a step-brother, Kevin Abston of Hilham; a special niece, Shemina Mansell of Allons; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members.

Mrs. Matheney died Tuesday, July 8 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was employed at Robinson Manufacturing in Clarkrange. Born June 12, 1959, in Warren, OH, she was the daughter of John A. Von Schwarz of Mineral Ridge, OH, and Barbara (Beaty) Saunders of Crawford. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Ray F. Beaty Sr.; and a brother, Ricky Lynn Rupert.

Mrs. Peek died Friday, July 11 at Southpark Health Care Center in Oklahoma City, OK. She was a retail store clerk and a member of First Baptist Church in Livingston.
Born October 25, 1917, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Overton and Lillie (Dickerson) Ray. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Thomas Peek.
Survivors include several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

DR. ROY HUGH ÒDOCÓ (SONNY) UPTON JR.
Funeral services for Dr. Roy Hugh ÒDocÓ Upton Jr., 59, of Goodlettsville, were conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2003, from the chapel of Cole & Garret Funeral Home in Goodlettsville.
Dr. Upton died Saturday, July 12.
Born February 25, 1944, in Monterey, CA, he grew up in Livingston. He was the son of the late Roy Hugh and Sarah Ruth Upton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Aneva Ward. He graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1965, and Auburn University in 1969. He moved to Goodlettsville in 1972 and opened Upton Animal Clinic, which later changed to Goodlettsville Animal Hospital. He practiced veterinary medicine in Stuart, FL, for two years before moving to Goodlettsville.
Survivors include his wife, Rita Upton; a son, David Upton and wife, Stephanie, of White House; a daughter, Nichole Bellenfant and husband, Keith, of Cookeville; five grandchildren, Haley Upton, Sarah Upton, David Upton Jr., Grahm Bellenfant, and Campbell Bellenfant; a brother, Joe T. Upton and wife, Susan, of Livingston; and several nieces and nephews, Mary Ellen and Richard Upton, Stacy Bishop, Jason Stephens, April Stephens, Raymond White, and Cynthia Kirkwood and husband, Nathan.
