EDDE, Thelma Jewell, age 64 of Cowan, Tenn. died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at St. Thomas Hospital. She was born in Monterey, Tenn. and was a machine operator last employed by Taylor’s Leather Ware. She is survived by two sons, Denny (Misty) Edde of Estill Springs and Mike (Rene) Farley of Winchester; mother, Della Vanderpool of Murfreesboro; two sisters, Naomi Murphy of Monterey and Sheila Morris of Woodbury; two brothers, Doyle Vanderpool and Kenneth Vanderpool, both of Murfreesboro; and two grandchildren, Madalyn and Jessica Edde. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Carr officiating. Interment was in the Cowan Montgomery Cemetery in Cowan. GORE, James Davis (J.D.), age 86 of LaVergne, Tenn. died Friday, March 24, 2006 at Peachtree Center Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born on Feb. 11, 1920 in Moore County, the son of the late J.E. Gore and Barshea (Fears) Gore. He was a factory worker and attended Liberty Hill Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gore was preceded in death by two wives, Clara Gore and Clara Burt Gore. He is survived by his son, Gene (Enola) Gore of LaVergne; Bernice Whittimore of Thompkinsville, Ky.; a grandson, Gene (Kerri) Gore, Jr. of LaVergne; a granddaughter Melissa (Gary) Wilson of LaVergne; and five great-grandchildren, Derek, Brittney, Levi, Blake and Ryan. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, March 27, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Lynchburg Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Randy Davis officiating. Interment was in the Lynchburg Cemetery in Lynchburg. Lynchburg Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

DODSON, Joseph Bradley, "J.B.," age 73 of Lynchburg, Tenn. died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at St. Thomas Hospital. He was born on Sept. 7, 1932 in Moore County, the son of Cillis Dodson and Louella Crowell Dodson. He worked as a laborer with Worth Bat Corp. Mr. Dodson is survived by his wife, Reba (Angel) Dodson of Lynchburg; a son, Terry (Coleen) Dodson of Lynchburg; two daughters, Sarah (Jimmy) Ambrose of Tullahoma and Peggy Ferrell of Shelbyville; a sister, Edna Branch of Lynchburg; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 11 a.m. at the Lynchburg Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jack Lambert officiating. Lynchburg Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

SNELL, Letha Iona, age 81 of Winchester died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 at her residence. She was born in Jackson, NE and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.A. Snell and two sons, Lawrence Leach and Fred Snell. Mrs. Snell is survived by four daughters, Lee Townsley, Mary Ann McNeilly and Kay Snell, all of Winchester and Francine Marie Moore of Conyers, GA; four sons, Richard Jones of Saulk Village, IL, Walter Lee Snell of Lake Village, IN, George Athel Snell of Alsip, IL and Robert Snell of Winchester; a brother, Kenneth Jones of Nebraska; 28 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006 at 4:30 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel in Winchester. DOUGLAS, James Ronald "Booty," age 63 of Decherd died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006 at his residence. He was born in Winchester, the son of the late John Robert Douglas, Sr. and Jennie Berryhill Douglas. He was a Surveyor last employed by TVA. Mr. Douglas is survived by his wife, Polly Anna Douglas of Decherd; two daughters, Rhonda (Keith) Newton of Winchester and Tina Tobitt of Decherd; a brother, Robert "Bobby" Douglas, Jr. of Mount Juliet; a sister, Debbie Crowder of Winchester; and three grandchildren, Zachary James Newton, Chelsie Lashea Tobitt and Courtney Brianna Tobitt. Visitation was held Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 at 5 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel. GRAY, Vernita J., age 64 of Winchester passed away Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. Her mother and father, Jessie and Alonzo Gray, four sisters, four brothers and a granddaughter, Darian Gray, preceded her in death. Mrs. Gray is survived by her daughters, Diane Leslie of Fayetteville and Sherry Denise (Gregory) Eady of Winchester; sons, Jesse Gray of Winchester, Dwayne Lorenzo Gray of Tullahoma and Eric Germaude (Lori) Gray of Knoxville; grandchildren, Nickole (Gary) Bush, Darius Leslie, Nakia Gray, Rontye Gray, Chantele Gray and Mekiah Gray; a step-granddaughter, Felisha Eady; three great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kierra and Malyna; sister, Isabelle Staten of Nashville; a brother, Jessie (Faye) Alonzo of Clarksville; 14 nieces; 16 nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service was conducted Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006 at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church with Elder McGee officiating. Interment followed in the Winchester City Cemetery with nephews and friends serving as pallbearers. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service. GAULT, Bob, age 75 of Monteagle died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006 at Emerald-Hodgson Hospital. He was born in Fayetteville and was a Production Worker last employed by Monterey Mills. Mr. Gault is survived by his wife, Shirley Gault of Monteagle; three daughters, Kathy (Harold) Means and Jan (Timothy) Griswald, both of Fayetteville and Tammy (Joe) Hill of McMinnville; three sons, Pat (Kathy) Gault of Thornton, IL, Ricky Gault of Fayetteville and Chris (Beronica) Gault of Monteagle; a sister, Betty Casteel of Murfreesboro; a brother, Howard Gault of Missouri; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006 at 5 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel. TIPPS, Shirley L., age 70 of Clearwater, FL died Saturday, July 29, 2006 at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL. Born in Red Bay, AL. Mrs. Tate moved to Clearwater, FL from Nashville in 1981. She retired as the Linen Coordinator at Bay Pines Veterans Affairs Medical Center, FL, after 15 years of service. She also was a legal secretary for the U.S. Attorney’s office in Nashville and an Intelligence Analyzer for the U.S. Army in Heidelberg, Germany. She was Protestant and was a worldwide traveler. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards and her dogs. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jimmy Tipps; four daughters, Darla "Jeanne" O’Donnell of Clearwater, FL, Betty Shipman of St. Petersburg, FL, Shirley Hytner of Palm Harbor, FL, and Teresa Presley of Franklin; a son, James B. Tipps, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Margie Parham of Nashville and Anne Jones of Tullahoma; and eight grandchildren. DORAN, Richard D., age 70 of Estill Springs died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2006 at Harton Regional Medical Center in Tullahoma. He was a teacher. Mr. Doran is survived by his wife, Janet Doran of Estill Springs; a son, Mark (Cnç) Doran of Mokena, IL; two daughters, Christine (Brian) Dayett of Winchester and Sheri (Steve) Layne of Hillsboro; and grandchildren, Vanessa and Whitney Etheridge, Chase Dayett, Garrett Daniel Dayett, MacKay Doran and Turner Doran. DUCKETT, Minnie Irene, age 95 of Winchester died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006 at Mountain View Nursing and Rehab. She was born in Sandwich, IL and was a bookkeeper, last employed by Loyal Order of Moose in Mooseheart, IL. She is survived by a son, George L. Duckett of Winchester, and two grandchildren, Kimberly Proctor and Greg Scott Duckett. Visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006 at 6 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel in Winchester. Zimmerman, William "Adrian," age 80, a prized dairy farmer, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006. He was a lifetime resident of Hillendale Farm in the Farris Chapel Community. By his side was his wife of 57 years, Ruth. Adrian had been battling the cancer that took his life for seven years. Adrian served his country in the United States Navy before returning home, where he became an active member of the community, especially when lending a hand to a neighbor or giving blood. He shared his life volunteering for the Boy Scouts of America, Future Farmers of America, 4-H, and supported the development of extra-curricular activities at Franklin County High School. He was also an active member of the Tennessee Farm Bureau, Friesian Holstein Association, and the United Church of Christ. His family and friends will remember Adrian with devotion and love. Adrian's compassion, wit, humor, love, and wisdom will be with us forever. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sisters, Ethelyn Osborne, Anna Hall and Mildred Hatchett; children Kathy Collins, Richard Zimmerman, Emily Wilson and Joe Zimmerman; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A remembrance and celebration of Adrian's life will be held Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester. Speakman, Ollie Shanon, age 37 of Tullahoma passed away Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006. Shanon was preceded in death by his brother, Cavin Brett Speakman in 1994, paternal grandparents, Ollie E. and Mary Taylor Speakman, and maternal grandparents, Mavis and Allen Ezell, Ann Johnson and Thomas Branch. He is survived by his daughter, Shasta Javelin Speakman of Tullahoma; parents, Ollie and Mary J. Branch Speakman of Tullahoma; sister, Misty D. Speakman of Savannah, GA; several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and cousins; and the mother of his child, Melodi S. Speakman of Decherd. Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 11, 2006 from 4-9 p.m. at Watson-North Funeral Home. The funeral service will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006 at noon from the Roy B. Watson Chapel of the Watson-North Funeral Home with Frankie Speakman and Rev. Matthew Trussell officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. PENDER, Edward Craigue, age 28 of Huntsville, Alabama died at his home Sunday, July 2, 2006. Edward was born September 16, 1977 in Winchester, Tennessee. Edward earned a BS degree in Political Science from Athens State University in Alabama this spring, and was looking forward to a career in city planning. He was preceded in death by both grandfathers, Benjamin F. Shelton of Manchester and Charles W. Pender, Sr. of Cowan. He is survived by a son, Dylan Matthew Madry of Huntsville, Alabama; by his parents, Dr. Charles W. Pender, Jr. and Anne-Marie Shelton Pender of Decherd; two brothers, Benjamin Shelton Pender (wife Jennifer) of Decherd and Daniel Sheridan Pender of Florida; a nephew, James Marshall Pender and a niece Olivia Beale Pender of Decherd; two grandmother, Edna Sheridan Pender of Cowan; and Inez Craigue Shelton of Manchester, also survive him. Pallbearers are Mark Perry, Thomas Priestley, Josh Konrad, Jeremy Acklen, Nick Passarella, Samuel Zielke, Jake Shelton, Zachary Shelton and Joseph Shelton. MCDONALD, Mary Lee Gifford, age 71 of Cowan, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer. Mrs. McDonald was a hairdresser, the organist and active member of the First Baptist Church of Cowan. She was a charter member of the Cowan Merchant’s Association. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and P.A. Gifford; brothers, Allen, Aaron and Joe Gifford and a sister, Margie Gifford Douglas. She is survived by her husband, Harold "Skinnie" McDonald of Cowan; two daughters, Brenda McDonald of Cowan and Jackye and husband Bruce Stines of Decherd; two grandchildren, Leslee and wife Amanda McDonald of Winchester and Tina and husband Johnny Payne of Cowan; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 9, 2006 at 4 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Cowan with Rev. Tim Brown officiating. Interment followed in the Franklin Memorial Gardens.
