DOUGLAS M. WELLS
Funeral services for Mr. Douglas M. Wells, 73, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, August 16, 2004, at Oak Hill Methodist Church.

Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery with Bro. James Williams officiating.

Mr. Wells died Saturday, August 14 at his home. He was a local truck driver at ABF Freight, a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church, and a southern gospel singer who sang in many churches in Putnam, Overton, White, and surrounding counties.

Born June 7, 1931, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Herman and Mildred (Maynard) Wells.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Sue (Carmack) Wells of Cookeville; a daughter, Levita (Wells) Holt of Algood; a son, Richard E. Wells and his wife, Valerie, of Cookeville; a brother, Howard Wells and his wife, Betty L., of Rickman; two sisters, Geraldine Greenwood and her husband, Sam, of Cookeville, and Frances Means and her husband, J.C., of Battle Creek, MI; and four grandchildren, Chelsea Holt, Katie Wells, Charis Wells, and Douglas Wells.

Pallbearers were Bob Matthews, Brian Wells, Craig Norris, James Thrasher, Dale Scott, and Roger Clouse.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Standley, John West, Glenn Cooper, and a host of friends and co-workers. Memorial contributions may be made to Lazarus House Hospice in Cookeville.

RUBY E. (Ingalls) ZEAFLA
Memorial services for Mrs. Ruby E. (Ingalls) Zeafla, 83, of Hilham, were conducted at 9 a.m. Monday, August 9, 2004, at the future site of Hilham Baptist Mission. Bill Land and Morris McMaster officiated, with music provided by Points of Light and Nick Denby.

Burial was in Salem-St. Paul cemetery in Liberty, PA.

Mrs. Zeafla died Saturday, August 7 at Overton County Nursing Home. She was a homemaker and enjoyed freelance writing for radio stations and Christian publications. She was especially noted for her poetry.

Born July 18, 1921, in Covington Township, PA, in Tioga County, she was the daughter of the late Clayton Elmer and Sylvia Lenora (Beebe) Ingalls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard F. Zeafla; and a sister, Wilma Froebel.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeanne Henry of Hilham; a son, George Zeafla and his wife, Geri, of Springville, NY; two foster children, Bonnie Marsh and her husband, Glenn, and Ann Smith; three brothers, Raymond Ingalls, Fred Ingalls and his wife, Jean, and Victor Ingalls; two sisters, Rosaleen Dushoff and Stella Sayles; 9 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren, Marilyn Collinsworth, John Henry, Howard Henry and his wife, Kristine, Richard Henry and his wife, Jewel, Victor Zeafla and his wife, Jessica, Doreen Sharpe and her husband, Richard, David Zeafla and his wife, Allison, Scott Zeafla and his wife, Shelly, Tim Zeafla, Angela Shaffer and her husband, Al, and Eric Maybee and his wife, Rachel; 6 foster grandchildren, Michael Marsh, Michelle Marsh, Matthew Marsh, Nathan Smith, Amber Smith, and Kristy Smith; 15 great grandchildren, Derek Collinsworth, Eric Henry, Sean Henry, Emily Zeafla, Riley Zeafla, Makayla Sharpe, Kristina Sharpe, Kasandra Sharpe, Ashlee Zeafla, James Zeafla, Kaylee Zeafla, Timothy Zeafla, Amber Zeafla, Andrea Zeafla, Andrew Zeafla, Adam Zeafla, Cody Zeafla, and Bianca Zeafla; and 5 step-grandchildren, Amber Shaffer, Autumn Shaffer, Alexis Shaffer, Cheyenne Maybee, and Sierra Maybee.

E.J. CONNER
Graveside services for Mr. E.J. Conner, 69, of Lakeland, FL, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2003, at Florida National cemetery in Bushnell, FL.

Mr. Conner died Saturday, June 14 at his home due to throat cancer. He was a cabinet maker and a United States Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

Born December 28, 1933, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Walter and Velma Conner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Clois Conner and Odell Conner.

Survivors include a companion, Lou Ella Little; three daughters, Erica Conner and Barbara Conner Brown, both of Lakeland, and Bonnie Kauffman of Fort Wayne, IN; a son, Eddy Conner of LaGrange, KY; a brother, Kenny Ray Conner of Anderson, IN; two sisters, Veatrice Odom of Winchester, IN, and Leetta Woody of Akron, OH; and a grandson.

Special care provided by Veterans Cremation and Burial Society in Clearwater, FL.

CLETA MAE COPELAND
Graveside services for Mrs. Cleta Mae Copeland, 59, of Livingston, were conducted at 4 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2003, at Carr cemetery with Bro. Nolan Cantrell officiating.

Mrs. Copeland died Thursday, June 12 at The Health Center At Sandifer in Chattanooga. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.

Born November 1, 1943, in Logan, WV, she was the daughter of the late James and Nola (Perkins) Baisden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Silina Runyon.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Runyon of Houston, AK; two daughters, Kimberly Dailey of Livingston and Tina Williams of Alaska; four brothers, Robert Stonoff of Arizona, Jim Stonoff of Indiana, and Melvin Sheppard and Paul Brisden, both of Alaska; two sisters, Jonnie Hall of Indiana and Velma Smith of Texas; two grandsons; three granddaughters; and a great grandchild.

CHARLES DEFOE
Memorial services for Mr. Charles Defoe, 56, of Livingston, will be conducted at 5 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 25, 2003, from the Algood Church of Christ with Bro. Scott Conner officiating Mr.

Mr. Defoe died Sunday, June 22 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was an electrician.

Born September 13, 1946, in Athens, AL, he was the son of Edward Defoe and the late Ruby (Grant) Defoe.

Survivors, in addition to his father, include his wife, Sandra Defoe; a son, Dwayne Thompson; four brothers, Bobby Defoe, Paul Wayne Defoe, Tommy Defoe, and Ray Defoe; and three sisters, Joyce Holley, Wilma Harbin, and Jewel Dean Sinard.

JIM JOHNSON
Funeral services for Mr. Jim Johnson, 39, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial was in Fellowship cemetery with Rev. Ovle Tinch officiating.

Mr. Johnson died Wednesday, June 11 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was a roofer and affiliated with the Church of Christ.

Born August 22, 1963, in Overton County, he was the son of Grace (Davis) Johnson and the late Jim Floyd Johnson.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include three brothers, Bobby Joe Johnson, Terry Wayne Johnson, and David Franklin Moore, all of Livingston; several half-sisters; and several nieces and nephews.

VEACHEL WINNINGHAM JOHNSON
Funeral services for Mrs. Veachel (Winningham) Johnson, 90, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial was in Hoover cemetery with Bro. Ronnie Parsons and Bro. Lester Flatt officiating.

Mrs. Johnson died Friday, June 13 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a housewife and a member of Allons Baptist Church.

Born October 28, 1912, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Jasper and Lilly Belle (Holt) Sevier. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Haskell Winningham, Marion Johnson, and Lebret Johnson; four sons, Darrell Winningham, Norman Winningham, Verdie Winningham, and Vergil Winningham; a daughter, Mary Evalene Ray; a sister, Lena Eldridge Sevier; a great grandson, Jonny Ray; and a great granddaughter, Lori Ray.

Survivors include four sons, Haspon Winningham of Tremont, UT, Carvel Winningham of Livingston, Dallas Winningham of Greenwood, IN, and David Winningham of Viola; three daughters, Kathleen Smith and Florene Smith, both of Livingston, and Adorene Hodge of Billings, MT; a brother, Marion Sevier of Norwalk, CA; 25 grandchildren; and 40 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Smith, Dallas Winningham, Charles Booher, Johnathon Smith, Carvel Winningham, and Harold Gore.

JOE GLENN KNIGHT
Funeral services for Mr. Joe Glenn Knight, 46, of Livingston, were conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 17, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial was in Cash cemetery with Rev. Craig Green officiating.

Mr. Knight died Friday, June 13 at Livingston Regional Hospital. He was affiliated with the Church of Christ.

Born May 28, 1957, in Cumberland County, he was the son of the late James Bedford and Anna Sue (Smallwood) Knight.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Jeanette (Bateman) Knight of Livingston; six sons, Joe Knight Jr. of Livingston, Charles Allen Vance of Gainesboro, Eric Brown and Larry Brown, both of Lafayette, David Knight of Sparta, and Timmy Langford of Cookeville; four daughters, Sarah Knight of Livingston, Linda Knight and Ruby Knight, both of Sparta, and Charlene Knight of Gainesboro; two step-sons, Charles Blackwell and Chris Blackwell, both of Livingston; three brothers, Albert Knight of Clarksville, James P. Knight of Baxter, and Zolly Knight of Shelbyville; two sisters, Francis Watts of Baxter and Charlotte Johnson of Clarksville; and 10 grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charles Blackwell, Chris Blackwell, William Rittenberry, Jamie Presley, Joe Knight Jr., David Knight, Rick Burgers, Chad Howard, Wayne Smallwood, Danny McCloud, Zolly Scott, and Bradley Knight.

FRANCIS CHRISTINE LANCASTER
Funeral services for Mrs. Francis Christine Lancaster, 86, of Livingston, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Bro. Ovle Tinch officiating.

Mrs. Lancaster died Saturday, June 21 at Livingston Regional Hospital. She was a factory worker and a member of First Baptist Church in Livingston.

Born April 2, 1917, in Smith County, she was the daughter of the late James and Virginia (Huewitt) Plumlee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Young; a sister; a brother; and a great grandson, Tyler Lancaster.

Survivors include her husband, Dan Lancaster of Livingston; two sons, Robert Lancaster and Charles Lancaster, both of Livingston; a brother, James Lancaster of Texas; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

BERNICE HOLBERT OWENS
Funeral services for Mrs. Bernice (Holbert) Owens, 92, of Monroe, were conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial was in Bethsaida cemetery with Rev. Billy Blakenship officiating.

Mrs. Owens died Thursday, June 19 at Life Care Center of Sparta. She was a homemaker, a farmer, and a member of Bethsaida Christian Church. She attended Byrdstown High School and then graduated from Alpine Institute. She taught Adult Education in Twinton and was a United States Census Enumerator.

Born December 4, 1910, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late William "BillÓ" and Ella (McDonald) Holbert. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Delmer Owens; a daughter, Peggy Owens; and a brother, Holmer Holbert.

Survivors include a son, John Owens of Cookeville; three daughters, Ella Givens of Kennesaw, GA, Ann Barkalow of Mt. Juliet, and Jerri Barnhill of Huntsville, AL; and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers were Tony Barenhill, Todd Barkalow, Anthony Rella, Bruce Barkalow, Ray Holbert, and Gary Givens.

MARY ELIZABETH "LIZZIE" SULLIVAN
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Sullivan, 78, of Hilham, were conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2003, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville. Burial was in Campground cemetery with Bro. Dewey Glenn Masters officiating.

Mrs. Sullivan died Friday, June 20 at Masters Health Care Center. She attended Shiloh Methodist Church.

Born October 6, 1924, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Willie and Lula (Nelson) Dickerson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John David "Bunk" Sullivan; a brother, Oscar Dickerson; a half-sister, Virgie Hooks; and a half-brother, Johnny Dickerson.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Moody and husband, Sam, of Cookeville and Brenda Phillips and husband, Haywood, of Hilham; two sons, Billy Sullivan and wife, Brenda, of Livingston and Donnie Sullivan and wife, Alexandra, of Hilham; two brothers, Archie Dickerson of Dayton, OH, and Oakley Dickerson of Livingston; a sister, Lucille Dillon of Dayton; 10 grandchildren; a step-grandchild; and 3 great grandchildren.

ALEX RAY CASSETTY
Funeral services for Mr. Alex Ray Cassetty, 17, of the Whitleyville Community of Jackson County, were conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 21, 2003, at Jackson County High School Kermit Forkum Gymnasium. Burial was in John L. Clark Memorial cemetery in the Stone Community of Jackson County with Bro. Tom Bilbrey and Bro. Dewayne Chaffin officiating.

Mr. Cassetty died Friday, April 18 at Cookeville Regional Medical Center due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He attended Whitleyville Church of Christ and was a senior at Jackson County High School, where he was a member of the Beta Club, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the basketball and baseball teams, the Science Club, and the J-Club. He was also a Boys State delegate and a Youth Leadership delegate.

Born May 16 1985, in Cookeville, he was the son of Steven A. and Sue Cassetty of Whitleyville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willard Ray and Katherine (Meadows) Cassetty and Archie Ledbetter.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include two sisters, Ammie Sue Cassetty of Crossville and Amanda Carol Cassetty of Knoxville; a grandmother, Vella Ledbetter of Livingston; and several uncles, aunts, relatives, and friends.

Pallbearers were Josh Brown, Andy Elkins, Travis Agee, Brandon Ward, Danny Allen, and Brandon Chaffin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson County High School baseball team by contacting Anderson Funeral Home.

GEORGE L. CHETTLE
Funeral services for Mr. George L. Chettle, 86, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 19, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home. Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Craig Green officiating.

Mr. Chettle died Tuesday, April 15 at Overton County Nursing Home. He was a retired sign and billboard maker and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was also a United States Army veteran of World War II.

Born May 10 1916, in Wentworth County, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of the late George R. and Agnes (Marsh) Chettle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith (Masters) Chettle; a brother; and five sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel (Speck) Chettle of Livingston; a son, Michael Lyndon Chettle of Balticlen, GA; a stepdaughter, Louise (Speck) Ruppel of Livingston; and two nieces, Diana Chettle of Salt Lake City, UT, and Freddie Butterfield of Mariposa, CA.
