HOMER JERRY NORROD JR.
Memorial services for Master Chief Homer Jerry Norrod Jr., 56, of Summitville, and formerly of Overton County, were conducted on Thursday, December 4, 2003, at Summitville Methodist Church with Rev. Barry Phelps officiating.
Burial was in Grant Norrod Family cemetery in Monroe.
Mr. Norrod died Tuesday, December 2 at his home. He was retired from the United States Navy, having served 20 years on active duty, 4 years at NATO Headquarters in Viborg, Denmark, and 8 years on active reserve. He was also an avid sports fan and collected many trophies in bowling and darts from all over the world during his many tours of duty.
Born May 14, 1947, in Cookeville, he was the son of Christine (Beaty) Norrod of Livingston and the late Homer J. Norrod Sr.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a daughter, Spring Torres of Frederickburg, VA; two sons, Brent Norrod of Las Vegas, NV, and Phillip Norrod of Stafford, VA; two sisters, Judy Pate and her husband, Forrest, of Farragut, and Jill Turner and her husband, Stan, of Jupiter, FL; two grandchildren, Olivia Torres and Brandon Torres, both of Fredricksburg; three nephews, Blaine Pate of Los Angeles, CA, 1st Lt. Nathan Pate, United States Air Force, and Erik Clark of Jupiter; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

ANNA SUE REEDER
Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Sue Reeder, 53, of Nashville, were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 13, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.
Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Bro. Aron Dillon and Bro. James Shaver officiating.
Mrs. Reeder died Wednesday, December 10 at St. Thomas Hospital. She was a housewife and of the Baptist faith.
Born November 11, 1950, in Overton County, she was the daughter of Zella (Ledbetter) Carr and the late Willis A. Carr.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Arvil Reeder of Nashville; a son, Douglas Reeder of Nashville; a daughter, Sherry Thompson of Monroe; two brothers, Glen Carr of Livingston and Keith Carr of Allons; two grandchildren, Kandace Reeder and Jake Reeder; and nieces and nephews, Tammy Johnson, Betsy Carr, Julie Raines, William Carr, Chris Carr, Michael Carr, and Ethan Carr.
Pallbearers were Jake Reeder, Doug Reeder, Darrell Thompson, William Carr, Michael Carr, Chris Carr, and Junior Reeder.

KENNETH SISCO
Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth Sisco, 60, of Monterey, were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2003, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey.
Burial was in Wilson cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Wilson and Rev. David Harris officiating.
Mr. Sisco died Saturday, December 13 at Cumberland Medical Center in Crossville. He worked as a construction worker and a security officer at Pinkerton. He was an Army veteran and a member of Faith Chapel Independant Baptist Church.
Born January 7, 1943, in Overton County, he was the son of Pearl (Melton) Sisco of the Crossroads Community near Monterey and the late Denton Sisco.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include a brother, Donnie Sisco and his wife, Glenna, of Monterey; a step-daughter, Angel Conley of Cookeville; a step-son, Eddie Conley of Cookeville; and four nieces.

JAMES BURR "J.B." SMITH
Funeral services for Mr. James Burr "J.B." Smith, 86, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.
Burial was in Overton County Memorial Gardens with Rev. Newsome Harvey officiating.
Mr. Smith died Wednesday, December 10 at Overton County Nursing Home. He was a heavy equipment operator, a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II, and a member of VFW.
Born February 23, 1917, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Burr and Rosie (Bilbrey) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Addie Leah "Peggy" (Knight) Smith.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Smith of Livingston; a son, Doug Smith of Wyoming; a step-daughter, Glenda Lewis of Livingston; and three granddaughters.
VFW Post 5062 of Livingston served as Mr. Smith's pallbearers.

WALTER J. SMITH
Funeral services for Mr. Walter J. Smith, 92, of Hilham, were conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.
Burial was in Old Union cemetery with Bro. Robert Boles and Bro. Barry Mayes officiating.
Mr. Smith died Monday, December 8 at Overton County Nursing Home. He was a forester for the state of Tennessee, a farmer, and a member of Hilham Church of Christ.
Born May 2, 1911, in Overton County, he was the son of the late William and Mary (Ayers) Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Elmo Smith; and a grandchild, Carolyn Smolen.
Survivors include his wife, Rosie Smith of Hilham; three sons, Billy Smith and his wife, Lynette, of Livingston, Paul Smith and Carl Smith and his wife, Linda, all of Hilham; three sisters, Betty Parrott and her husband, James, and Wynell Franklin, all of Livingston, and Peggy Bartley and her husband, Lee, of Somerset, KY; 12 grandchildren, Shirley Flurey, Cindy Morrow, Kathy Howell, David Smith, Billy Parrott, Joe Parrott, Jamie Kay Rogers, Johnny Thomas, Benny Thomas, Kenny Thomas, Vicki Swartz, and Gary Smith; 15 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

THURZA ELISE STOCKTON
Graveside services for Mrs. Thurza Elise Stockton, 88, of Livingston, were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2003, in Martin cemetery with Bro. Tim Wilson officiating.
Mrs. Stockton died Tuesday, December 9 at Livingston Regional Hospial. She was a housewife and a member of Bible Baptist Church in Rickman.
Born March 31, 1915, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Jessie and Dee (Hogan) Martin.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Stockton of Livingston; a daughter, Paula Freeman and her husband, Jim, of Rickman; a brother, Eulos Martin of McMinnville; three sisters, Ola Winters of London, OH, Eura Vaughn of Cincinnati, OH, and Madge Reynolds of Collinsville, VA; a grandson, James Scott Freeman of Rickman; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services for Mr. James Bruce Vaughn, 74, of Savannah, GA, and formerly of Overton County, were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2003, from the chapel of Speck Funeral Home.
Burial was in Green Hill cemetery with Bro. David Vaughn officiating.
Mr. Vaughn died Monday, December 8 at Chandler Hospital in Savannah. He was an assistant superintendent of schools for Savannah and Chatham County School System and a member of First Baptist Church in Savannah.
Born June 15, 1929, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Benton and Orangie (Allred) Vaughn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James Bruce Vaughn Jr.; a sister, Minnie V. Robertson; and six brothers, Burns Vaughn, Roland Vaughn, Hillard Vaughn, Doyle Vaughn, Danny Vaughn, and Denny Vaughn.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce E. (Ringley) Vaughn of Savannah; two daughters, Pamela Mood and Kimberly Roundtree and her husband, Charles Alden II; three brothers, Robert Vaughn of Algood, Joel Vaughn and his wife, Frances, of Nashville, and David Vaughn and his wife, Caroline, of Gastonia, NC; two sisters, Bobbie Bush and her husband, Robert, and Hildagarde Vaughn, all of Cookeville; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Joyce Mood, Charles Alden Roundtree III, Ryan Vaughn Roundtree, and Marley Elizabeth Roundtree.

Mrs. Vaughn died Tuesday, December 9 at her home. She was a homemaker.
Born December 16, 1925, in Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Howard and Ida Belle (Crabtree) Dishman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Vaughn; a son, Paul Vaughn; and an infant daughter, Wanda Faye Vaughn.
Survivors include six daughters, Jewel Cathcart and Josie Smith, both of North Vernon, IN, Christeen Mahaney of Indianapolis, IN, Norma Randolph of Nashville, Mildred Maxwell of Monterey, and Connie Ribardis of Cookeville; six sons, Arnold Vaughn of Pomona Park, FL, Harson Vaughn, Hershel Vaughn, James Vaughn, and Russell Vaughn, all of Monterey, Fred Vaughn of Indianapolis, and Arnold Vaughn of the Rocky Point Community; a sister, Frances Fletcher of Crossville; three brothers, Walter Dishman, Odell Dishman, and Alfred Dishman, all of Crossville; 23 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

NORMA ELIZABETH RAY
Funeral services for Mrs. Norma Elizabeth Ray, 72, of Cookeville, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2002, from the chapel of Whitson Funeral Home in Cookeville. Burial was in Smith Chapel cemetery with Bro. Mike Adams and Bro. Paul Stringer officiating.
Mrs. Ray died Thursday, Jan. 9 at her home. She was a self-employed dairy farmer and a member of Allens Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
Born December 12, 1930, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Osa D. and Effie Mae (Poston) Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Paul Ray; and a brother, Hilmon Allen.
Survivors include two brothers and a sister-in-law, Harley James and Lois Allen of Michigan and Claude Allen of Cookeville; and four sisters and three brothers-in-law, Mary and Tom Pryor of Sparta, Charlene and Donnie Ledbetter of Livingston, Nadine and Charles Bowman of Crawford, and Imogene Snedecor of Cookeville.

Masonic services for Mr. Milas Spurlin, 75, of the Vines Ridge Community, were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, from the chapel of Goff Funeral Home in Monterey, with funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10. Burial, with full military honors, was in Honey Springs cemetery with Rev. Robbie Miller and Bro. Arnold Burris officiating.
Mr. Spurlin died Tuesday, Jan. 7 at Standing Stone Care and Rehabilitation Center in Monterey. He was retired from Indiana Glass, a United States Army veteran having served in Korea, a member of Shiloh Masonic Lodge 637, and a member of Twinton Freewill Baptist Church.
Born September 15, 1927, in Overton County, he was the son of the late Charlie and Mintie (Stevens) Spurlin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Spurlin, and two sisters, Virgie Guffey and Alice Robbins.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Smith) Spurlin of the Vines Ridge Community; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Tom Olson of the Vines Ridge Community; four sisters, Opal Matthews and Margie Garrett, both of the Vines Ridge Community, and Ruby Roberts and Iva Spurlin, both of Monterey; and five grandchildren, Elasha Lennartz, Richard Phillips, Kristi Whitthoft, Kelly Olson, and Mark Olson.

Mrs. Ward died Friday, December 26 at her home. She was a housewife.
Born December 11, 1923, in Overton County, she was the daughter of the late Benton and Della Ledbetter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Ward; a daughter, Karen; a son, Bruce; and a granddaughter, Debbie.
Survivors include a son, Bobby Ward; and four daughters, Ruby McCormick, Brenda Smith and her husband, Jim, Edith Smith and her husband, Bill, and Kim Parker and her husband, Mike.
