GASPERSON, Jean, age 84 of Decherd, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 27, 2006. She was born on Nov. 25, 1921, and was a lifelong resident of Decherd until 2000, when she went to live with family in North Little Rock, Ark. Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Floyd. She is survived by two nephews, Erol Knott of The Woodlands, Texas and Charles Knott of North Little Rock, Ark. Erol and his wife Carol have two sons, Marty and Rusty. Marty and his wife Kasey have two sons, Isaac and Jacob. Charles and his wife JoAn have a son, Jeffrey and a daughter, Carla. Jeffrey and his wife Christy have a son, Alex. Carla and her husband German have a daughter, Elisa. Aunt Jean did not have children of her own. However, she was a loving "mother" to us, her nephews, for 50 years after her sister, and our mother, Charlene Knott, passed away at a young age. She and Uncle Floyd took us in and provided a wonderful home for us. They also became Aunt Jean and Uncle Floyd to all of our friends who loved to visit, not only because of the warm home environment, but also because of Aunt Jean’s great cooking. Uncle Floyd’s job required that he work away from home, and Aunt Jean often found her hands full as we grew older and bigger. However, she was up to the task and managed it all quite well. She always took us to church with her. She and Uncle Floyd established values in us, which prepared us for the challenges we would face later in life. After we moved out of state with our jobs, we always looked forward to returning home and taking our families. Having Aunt Jean and Uncle Floyd as our "mother and father" made a great difference in all our lives, and they will truly be missed. We also have fond memories of our neighborhood and the families around us when we were growing up. Aunt Jean and Uncle Floyd cherished their friends and neighbors, and we are thankful to them. She was actively involved in her church and ministries to help others. She was also a long time participant in the Decherd Homemakers Club. The family received friends at the Watson-North Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2006. The funeral service will be conducted at the First Baptist Church in Decherd Tuesday, Oct. 31 at 10 a.m. at Watson-North Funeral Home. Watson-North Funeral Home in charge of arrangements, 405 Sharp Springs Rd., Winchester, TN 931-967-2345.
