Mervin Casey, 64, Lebanon, Va.
LEBANON, Va. - Mervin Benton Casey, 64, of the Hansonville community, died Tuesday (March 30, 2004) in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn.

Born July 15, 1939 in Russell County, the son of the late Garnett B. Casey and the late Gertie Lee Helton Casey, he was a lifelong resident of Russell County. He was a U.S. Army veteran with nine years and six months of service. He spent 19 months in Vietnam during the war. He worked several years for the Vencill Corp. in Lebanon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Mark Shannon Mims; Gerald Wayne Casey; and a very close friend, Kathleen Taylor.

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Marlene Casey Linkous and Adam J. Linkous, Cleveland; three grandchildren, Raymond, Ryan and Rachel Linkous; his sister, Vivian Ann Casey Mims and husband Luther E. Mims, Lebanon; a nephew, Larry E. Mims, Swords Creek.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Scott Suttle of the Spring City Baptist Church officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today prior to the service at the funeral home.

The committal service and burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon, where military honors will be conducted by the Lebanon VFW Post 9864.

Those attending should meet at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery by 1:15 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Larry E. Mims, Kevin Alexander, Johnny Taylor, Maynard Helton, Delmer Vencill, Ernest W. Vencill, Mike Taylor, Raymond Linkous and Ryan Linkous.

David Helton will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Margaret Cleek, 76, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Margaret Cox Cleek, 76, of Kingsport, passed away Wednesday (March 31, 2004) at the Wexford House.

Arrangements will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

Myrtle Compton, 89, Claxton, Tenn.
CLAXTON, Tenn. - Services for Myrtle Franklin Compton, 89, formerly of Kingsport, who passed away at the home of her daughter, Sharon "Shay" Compton in Claxton on Monday (March 29, 2004), will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in the Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown chapel, with Dr. Fred Garmon and the Rev. Archie Fendley officiating.

Interment will follow at Holston View cemetery in Weber City, Va.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers will be John Compton, Chris McConnell, Scott McConnell, Lennis Woods, Bill McConnell, and Norman Compton.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Myrtle Compton Memorial Fund, Heritage Fellowship, 121 N. Illinois Avenue, Oak Ridge, Tenn. 37830. Funds will be used to purchase a mission bus in Bolivia.

Carl E. Crabtree Jr., 37, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Carl E. Crabtree, Jr., 37, passed away Saturday (March 27, 2004) as a result of a tragic accident in Blountville.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during Operation Desert Storm and was honorably discharged with six years of service. He was a 1984 graduate of South Point High School in South Point, Ohio.

Carl was an avid NASCAR fan and loved fishing.

He was a devoted husband and a dedicated father.

Mr. Crabtree was a living kidney donor and was a hero for his gift of life to his father two years ago.

He was employed with Inove Graphics, Inc.

His mother, Yaeko Crabtree; daughter, Beth Ann Crabtree; and brother-in-law, David Daugherty preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Donna Crabtree, Kingsport; his two children of the home, his adored daughter, Emily (Loubob) Crabtree, and his son, Carl (C.J.) Crabtree, of whom he was very proud; his parents, Carl Sr. and Betty Crabtree, Portsmouth, Ohio; sisters, Kathleen Ellis, Brenda Kelley, and Carolyn Barnett; stepsister, Susie Baker; stepbrother, Ray Shonkwiler; and was an adored uncle to five nieces and six nephews.

He was dearly loved by his wife, children, family and friends, and will forever be missed and always in our hearts.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Hamlett-Dobson Chapel downtown.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dan Clark officiating and eulogy by his sister, Brenda Kelley.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites conducted by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Thomas Richard(Ricky) Evans, 57, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Thomas Richard (Ricky) Evans, 57, of 1038 East Sevier Ave., Apt. #3, was believed to expire on March 25, 2004 at his residence.

Mr. Evans was born in Dante, Va., and had made his home in Kingsport for the past 19 years.

Mr. Evans was a member of Central Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and was presently a security guard at Dobyns-Bennett High School.

Survivors include one daughter, Ms. Anna Lisa Evans, Webster, N.Y.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. William (Julia) Evans of Kingsport; four brothers, William E. Evans (Stacy), Kansas City, Mo., Carl E. Evans (Kathy), Tampa, Fla., Phillip D. Evans (Marie), Norfolk, Va., John W. Evans (Shaun), Kingsport; two sisters, Mrs. Kathy Bradford (John), Ms. Gail Evans, Kingsport; ex-wife, Ms. Violeta D. Evans, Webster, N.Y.; special friends, Ms. Barbara Green and Henry Williams; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the VA National Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW Charles DeWitt Byrd Post No. 3382 of Kingsport.

The cortege will depart from the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Evans, 1041 Dale St., at 10 a.m.

Mr. Evans' service is under the care of Robinson Funeral Services, Kingsport.

Ben F. Grills Jr., 73, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Ben F. Grills Jr., 73, formerly of the Fordtown community, passed away Tuesday night (March 30, 2004) at Indian Path Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

Born in Sullivan County, he had resided here all his life and was a graduate of Holston High School. Mr. Grills was a lifelong farmer.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ben F. Grills Sr. and Mary Grills; and a sister, Helen Riggs.

Surviving are one sister, Margaret B. Grills; one niece, Jill Rich and husband, Darrell; one nephew, Joe Riggs and wife, Becky; four grand-nephews, Garrett Rich, Alex Rich, Darren Riggs, and Ben Riggs; one brother-in-law, Jack T. Riggs; and special friend, Ruby Whaley, all of Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

Services will follow at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John F. Toney and the Rev. Helen Monroe Grills officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Iris Grimes, 90, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Iris Cradic Grimes, 90, of Kingsport, passed away Sunday (March 28, 2004) at the Wexford House.

She was born in Hawkins County and lived in Daytona Beach, Fla., for over 20 years. She was a homemaker and was of the Protestant faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Grimes; and her parents, R.N. and Annie Bailey Cradic; one sister, Daisy Cradic; and two brothers, Homer Cradic and Lee Cradic.

Surviving are her brother, Noah R. Cradic, Kingsport; and also several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Graveside services will follow in the Goshen Valley Cemetery.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is in charge of arrangements.

Ella Ruth Hensley, 84, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Ella Ruth Hartgrove Hensley, 84, of Kingsport and formerly of the Kermit community of Scott County, Va., went to be with the Lord Tuesday afternoon (March 30, 2004) at her daughter's home.

She was a member of Catron's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church for over 40 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher and treasurer for 35 years. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy R. Hensley in 1974; her parents, Alfred Hartgrove and Ida Blessing Hartgrove; one sister, Mrs. Hester Wininger; three brothers, Loranza Hartgrove, Glenn Hartgrove, Vernon Hartgrove; and two infant grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughter, Juanita Thacker of Kingsport; two sons, R.B. Hensley and wife Monik of Kingsport, Kenneth Hensley and wife Kathy of Weber City, Va.; grandchildren, Teresa Pugh and husband John of Charlotte, N.C., Scott Hensley and wife Denise of Yuma, Va., Bart Hensley and wife Becky of Hiltons, Va., Tony Rhoton of Charlotte, N.C., Anita Douthat and husband Nathan of Kingsport, Keith Gillenwater and wife Michelle of Yuma, Va., Dean Hensley of Birmingham, Ala., Cara Hensley of Kingsport; great-grandchildren, Michael, Daniel and Ethan Pugh, Caleb and Levi Hensley, Madison Hensley, Hannah Douthat, Amy and Lindsey Gillenwater; one sister, Maggie McGhee and husband J.C. of Yuma, Va.; two brothers, Ray Hartgrove and wife Rochelle of Yuma, Va., Hagan Hartgrove and wife Jean of Yuma, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Opal Hensley of Kermit, Va., Reba Hartgrove of Yuma, Va.; one brother-in-law, N.W. Wininger of Yuma, Va.; a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Catron's Chapel Primitive Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Tolley and the Rev. Paul Blessing officiating.

Music will be provided by the Harmony Three and the Hensley Family.

Mrs. Hensley will lie in state for one hour before the funeral service.

Burial will follow at the Holston View cemetery in Weber City, Va.

Pallbearers will be Scott Hensley, Keith Gillenwater, Dean Hensley, Bart Hensley, Tim Hartgrove and David Hartgrove.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., is serving the Hensley family.

Pauline Jennings, 85, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Graveside services and interment for Pauline Maples Jennings, 85, who passed away Monday (March 29, 2004), will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Oak Hill Memorial Park with David R. Cordrey officiating.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is serving the Jennings family.

Pauline Kiser, 67, Lebanon, Va.
LEBANON, Va. - Pauline Kiser, 67, died Wednesday (March 31, 2004) in the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn.

Born Nov. 30, 1936 in Dickenson County, a daughter of the late Bill Mann and the late Cora Lambert Mann, she had lived in Lebanon for the past 30 years. She was the wife of the late Hobert T. Kiser and a former employee of Lebanon Apparel Corp.

Pauline was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles T. Kiser; three brothers, Evans Mann, Sampson Mann, and Walter Mann; and two sisters, Leathie Winebarger and Nell Neese.

Survivors include a daughter, Tammy K. McCoy, Lebanon; six sons, Kestner and wife Judy Kiser, Lebanon, David and wife Joetta Kiser, Vansant, Darrell and wife June Kiser, Lebanon, Tim and Cookie Kiser, Lebanon, Greg and wife Sherrie Kiser, Lebanon, and Frankie and daughter Ashley Kiser, Lebanon; 17 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews.

The family expresses a special thank you to the staff of the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol for the care and kindness to Pauline and her family.

The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Friday at Combs Funeral Service, Lebanon, Va.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Darrell Sutherland and the Rev. Lester Sexton officiating.

Burial will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.

Pallbearers will be Butch Kiser, Travis Kiser, David Miller, Justin Kiser, Jason McFaddin, and Daniel Honaker.

Combs Funeral Service is serving the family of Mrs. Kiser.

Cecil Miles Sr., 56, Jonesville, Va.
JONESVILLE, Va. - Cecil Warren Miles Sr., 56, passed away Monday (March 29, 2004).

He was born Feb. 4, 1948 in Jonesville and was the son of Maude Miles and the late Rader Miles.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Joe Miles.

Surviving are his mother, Maude Miles of Jonesville; one sister, Wanda Montgomery of Cincinnati, Ohio; four children, Cecil Miles Jr. of Jonesville, Tonya Miles, Lisa Miles and Greg Miles, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren, Hunter and C.J. Miles of Jonesville, Alyssa, Gregory and Clayton Miles of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Jayme Miles of Texas.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Jonesville, Va.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Va.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday to go to the cemetery in procession.

Lillian Miller, 82, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Lillian Miller, 82, of Oak Street, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (March 31, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Survivors and arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
