Garfield Morelock, 75, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Garfield Morelock, 75, of 6029 Lone Star Road, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday morning (March 31, 2004) at Church Hill Healthcare & Rehab.
He was born in Hawkins County but had spent the majority of his life in Sullivan County. Garfield retired from the Tennessee State Forestry Division in 1992 with over 25 years of service.
Prior to his retirement, he served as a forester and fire fighter, both locally and as far west as the Rocky Mountains. He is fondly remembered by his family as a kind, gentle man who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as gardening, whittling, and visiting with neighbors. His greatest pleasure, however, was spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Morelock was a member of Mount Carmel Freewill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Conkin Morelock; his parents, James Flora and Mae Light Morelock; three sisters, Leeora Morelock, Delorse Morelock Dykes and Frances Morelock Overbay; also a brother, James Tramel Morelock.
Surviving are his children, Jenella Oliver and her husband Jimmy, Chris Morelock and his wife Debbie, both of Kingsport, Mike Morelock and his wife Sheila, Mount Carmel; five grandchildren, Ryan Bernard, Erin Morelock, Brooks Morelock, Jordan Morelock and Dylan Morelock; four sisters, Trula Mullenix, Wanda Morelock, Lucille Martin, all of Rogersville, and Lynn Smith, Kingsport; special sister-in-law, Anna Mae Morelock, Kingsport; special caregiver, Bernice Compton, Kingsport; special roommate and friend, Hobart Morelock; along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Orville Dolen and the Rev. Keith Williams at Mount Carmel Freewill Baptist Church.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

KINGSPORT - Committal services and burial for Grace Jessee Osborne, 84, who passed away Monday evening (March 29, 2004), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va. Those attending should meet at the cemetery.

John Patterson, 75, Kingsport
KINGSPORT - John Patterson, 75, died Monday (March 29, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center Emergency Room of an apparent heart attack.
Born in Hawkins County, he had spent most of his life in Sullivan County. He was employed at Kingsport Milling Company and later was self-employed. He loved his garden and fishing. He also loved and enjoyed his children and grandchildren.
He was a member of Emory United Methodist Church.
John and Edith would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 26 of this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James A. and Julia Patterson; a brother, Mack Patterson; and a daughter-in-law, Sharon D. Patterson.
Surviving are his wife, Edith Patterson, of the home; two sons, A.J. Patterson and wife Darlene, Taylorsville, N.C., and Wayne (Doug) Patterson and fiancée Jeannie Goodman, Kingsport; daughter, Sharon Thomas and husband Nick, Piney Flats; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, C.D. Patterson, Blountville, Frank Patterson and wife Blanche, Kingsport, and Charles Patterson and wife Lois, Kingsport; sister-in-law, Nola Mae Patterson, Kingsport; special sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ruth and Gene Roller.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, with the Rev. Bob Ferguson and the Rev. Jeff Strong officiating.
Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

Royce Wayne Powers, 60, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Royce Wayne Powers, 60, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning (March 31, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Pound, Va., and had been a resident of the Kingsport area most of his life. Royce was a charter member of Taylor Baptist Church and retired from the AY division of Eastman Chemical Co. with over 35 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Beecher Nathan and Lucille McClellan Powers; three sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his daughter, Tracie Powers Maness and husband Tim of Kingsport; two grandsons, Timothy Ethan and Tyler Elijah Maness; one granddaughter, Madison Elexis Maness; one sister, Patricia Horton and husband Jack of Hickory, N.C.; three brothers, Bill Powers and wife Colleen of Hiltons, Va., B.C. (Carlyle) Powers and wife Norberta of Greeneville, Shannon Powers and wife Judy of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Taylor Baptist Church, 385 Bancroft Chapel Road, or anytime at his residence.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday in the church with Pastor Shannon Powers officiating.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday from East Lawn Memorial Park with American Legion Hammond Post No. 3/Gate City Post No. 265.

NORTON, Va. - Brownie (Bud) Leon Scott, 68, passed away Tuesday (March 30, 2004) at his home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Bonnie Scott; and a sister, Wilma Wells.
He was a former employee of the Dixiana Coal Co. and the Pepsi Plant in Norton, Va.
Surviving are his wife, Reva Plummer Scott; two sons and their families, John and Kim Scott and their sons, Brian, Johnathan and Damian, all of Norton, and Benjamin and Michele Scott and their daughters, Cassandra and Rebecca Sumerduck; two daughters, Tiffany Nicole Scott of Norton and Dorothy and Shannon Mullins and their children, Joshua and Tabitha, all of Pound; three sisters, Louise Sturgill of Powell Valley, Faye Jesse of Abingdon, Va., and Blanche Culbertson of Norton, Va.; one brother, Teddy Scott of Norton, Va.

She was born March 22, 1920, at Gullett, Ky., daughter of the late Sherman and Minnie Gullett Perry.
She was the widow of Ernest H. Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherman and Minnie Perry; her husband, Ernest H. Brown; and 10 brothers and sisters, Richard Perry, Shirley Perry, Clifford Perry, Laurelia Deaton, Eva Caldwell, Trixie Trusty, Julia Begley, Otis Perry, Frank Perry and Carl Perry.
She is survived by 13 nieces, Jean Hensley of Kingsport, Eileen Schneider of Wichita, Kans., Libby Robinson of Middletown, Ohio, Pat Torline of Maddison, Ind., Wanda Atwood of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Jan Bullen, Dorothy Perry, Betty Perry, Barbara Perry and Shirley Perry, all of Dayton, Ohio, Judy Klawetter and Joletta Cobb, both of Lexington, Ky., and Marcella Perry of Salyersville, Ky.; two nephews, Alvis Trusty and Jerry Trusty, both of West Liberty, Ky.
