KINGSPORT - Verna Ingle Coward Moody, 98, passed away Thursday (Dec. 2, 2004) at 5:45 p.m. at Wexford House.
She was born to the late Rev. A.H. and Ellen Gobble Ingle of the Smith Creek section of Washington County, Va. on July 7, 1906.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest A. Moody, and eighteen brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Moody was a member of Emory United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a special niece and caregiver, Mrs. Jack (Ernestine) Sproles and her children, Janice Poe, Roseburg, Or., Danny and David, Kingsport; several other nieces and nephews, and special neighbors, Paul and Betty Huff, Kingsport; her stepchildren, Lizzie Crutchfield, Memphis, Tenn., Helen Evangelist, North Carolina, Erma Kate Kern, Kingsport and Jessie Lee Grills, Kingsport.

Walter Musick, 90, Cleveland, Va.
CLEVELAND, Va. - Walter Clayton (W.C.) Musick 90, passed away on Thursday (Dec. 2, 2004) at Maple Grove Rehabilitation Center.
Born Sept. 21, 1914 in Russell County, he was the son of the late Tollie R. Musick and Allie Musick. He was the loving husband of 64 years to the late Beulah H. Musick. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
As a child he came with his parents to the farm of his grandfather Abel Musick, a homesteader, on Buffalo Mountain in the Weavers Creek section of the county. He lived there until recently when he moved to Spring City two years ago because of declining health. He attended Weavers Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Norma M. Kiser and husband Harry T. of Powhatan, Va.; four sons, Ellis Carlton Musick and wife Della of Blountville, Roger Daniel Musick and wife Shirley, Abingdon, Cecil Bradley Musick and wife Linda of Cleveland and Walter Virgil Musick and wife Lois, Castlewood. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family: Darren Kiser, Angie and Ricky and Mark and Donna Davis, all of Powhatan, Va., Tim and April Musick, Adam, Sarah and Jack Musick all of Blountville, Sabina Musick, Kingsport and her fiance Rodney Hudson, North Carolina, Josh and Erica Musick, Plain City, Ohio, Daniel and Serena Musick, Molly and Zack all of Abingdon, Michael and Marjorie Musick, Dulles, Va., Melody Musick, Knoxville, Becky Leonard and Seth, and Greg Dye, Jacob and Jennifer Musick and Christian, all of Lebanon, Robin and Todd Brendel, and Joey and Erin Kay, all of Monterey, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

GREENE COUNTY - James Samuel "Sammy" Riggs, 83, died Thursday (Dec. 2, 2004) at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of the late Rev. A.A. and Maude Thompson Riggs and was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Cox Riggs in November 2003.
He was a farmer and also retired from W.C. Ross Wholesale.
He was a member of Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
He was a member VFW Post #1990, Baileyton Masonic Lodge #520 F&AM and a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are a sister Lois Rutledge, of Greene County; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, J.C. and Marguerite Carter, of Chattanooga; nieces, Terry English, of Greene County, Glenda Crawford, Fall Branch, Kay Rutledge, Kingsport, and Joyce Burroughs, Chattanooga; great nieces, Jennifer Sutherland and Jan Quinn; great nephews, Greg English and David Crawford; great-great nieces, Michaela Sutherland, Abigail English, Emily, Margaret and Sarah Quinn; and great-great nephew, Hunter Crawford.

KINGSPORT - Ruby Johnson Ryans, of Kingsport, passed away Thursday (Dec. 2, 2004) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Wytheville, Va., and had resided in Kingsport all her life.
Mrs. Ryans had worked at The Little Store and Oakwood Bakery for several years.
She attended Gospel Mission Church.
Her parents, Robert McKinley Brown and Willie Lee Brown; and a sister, Helen Pauline Brown preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Brad C. (Bill) Ryans, Kingsport; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn (Kay) Browder and John C., Kingsport; son and daughter-in-law, Bobby L. Johnson and Sandra, Kingsport; one grandson, Robert Alan Browder and wife Kim, who are very special to Bam-Bam and Grandpa; and several nieces and nephews.

Born in Russell County, Va., she had resided in Kingsport most of her life.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of West View Primitive Baptist Church.
Her husband, Rev. James Fred Smith; parents, Tom and Rosa Presley; brothers, Graham, Taulbee, Harless, Sam, and Jack Presley preceded her in death.
Surviving are a daughter, Louise Smith, of the home; three sisters, Edna Morris and Gladys Breeding, both of South Bend, In., and Sylvia Breeding and husband Clyde, Cleveland, Va.; sister-in-law, Carrie Crawford, Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.

EWING, Va. - Jack Brock Swinson, 64, Route 2, died Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) at Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Mount Olive, N.C., and was the son of the late Emmett Lee and Lucy Brock Swinson. He was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jackie Lynn Rose; two sisters, Peggy Brock and Barbara S. Henderson; and a niece, Janey Rakestraw.
Surviving are his wife, Lyn Bailey Swinson, of the home; a daughter, Jerri Swinson Wilson of Henderson, N.C.; two grandchildren, Amber Wilson and Kevin Rose; two brothers, Robert Swinson of Mount Olive, N.C., and Eldridge L. Swinson of Florida; four sisters, Jane Swinson Ziers of Florida, Nell Swinson Burch of Mount Olive, N.C., Glenda Swinson Honrine of Dudley, N.C., and Patricia Swinson Ezzell of Dudley, N.C.

KINGSPORT - Eula Mae Bloomer, 93, of 1022 Borden St., formerly of Rogersville, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) following a brief illness.
She was retired from J.P. Stevens Co.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence H. and Fannie Elizabeth Wolfe Bloomer; four brothers, Gene, Clarence Jr., Horace, Sam Bloomer; three sisters, Alice Hilton, Nola Stapleton, Elsie Spradlin.
She is survived by three sisters, Gladys Spivey of Kingsport, Joyce Fain of Rogersville, Louise Williams of Kingsport; three sisters-in-law, Jewel Bloomer of Johnson City, Opal Bloomer and Flogene Bloomer, both of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.

Marie M. Coates, 74, Bristol, Tenn.
BRISTOL - Marie M. Coates, 74, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) at Select Specialty Hospital in Bristol after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her husband, other family members, and her pastor.
"She fought a good fight, she has finished her course, she has kept the faith, there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness which the Lord shall give her."

Marie was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church. She was a godly, faithful, and loving wife, mother, and friend. She read her Bible nightly and always expressed her love for the Lord.
She enjoyed working in her flowers, her ceramics, and decorating. Marie loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and morning and evening times on the deck with her loving husband and the companionship of their dog, Jax.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Issac W. and Tishie Gilliam; and brother, Charles H. Gilliam.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Billy D. Coates; her brother, Issac W. Gilliam Jr. and wife Jannie, Cincinnati, Ohio; niece, Kristina Gilliam, Chicago, Ill.; her son, Steven Coates and fiancée, Pam; his children, Shannon and husband, David Hale, Nicole and husband, Jason Price; her daughter, Teresa and husband, Delmar Patterson, and their children, Lora and husband, Brandon Teare, Natasha Patterson and fiancé, Travis Olinger; daughter, Sonja Dingus and fiancé, Joe; and her children, Travis Dingus and wife, Allison, Alicia and husband, Joy Bentley. Mrs. Coates had 12 great-grandchildren.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
