Frank DeBoard, 67, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Frank DeBoard, 67, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) at his home.

He was a life-long resident of Big Stone Gap, Va. He was a painter with the former Brummitt Decorating and also worked for the former Sports Center, both in Big Stone Gap. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

He was of Holiness faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Ollie (Coomer) DeBoard; three brothers, Robert DeBoard, Richard DeBoard, and Paul DeBoard; three sisters, Dorothy Beason, Rena Maxfield and Agnes DeBoard.

Surviving are one brother, James DeBoard, Salem, Ind.; two sisters, Charlene Caldwell, Salem, Ind., and Bessie Maxfield, Ponca City, Okla.; special niece, Patricia K. Hall of Big Stone Gap; two special nephews, Bobby "Duke" DeBoard and Rickie DeBoard Sr., both of Big Stone Gap; and several other nieces and nephews.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, Va.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Duke Barker officiating.

Military rites, by the Norton VFW Post #4301, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in American Legion Cemetery, Big Stone Gap. Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home to go in procession.

Diane Jessee Edens, 40, Duffield, Va.
DUFFIELD, Va. - Diane Jessee Edens, 40, passed away on Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) at her home.

She was born in Sullivan County on Aug. 9, 1964 and was a homemaker. Mrs. Edens was of the Holiness faith.

She was greatly loved by her family and friends and will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Jessee; sister, Carlyn Mae Jessee.

Surviving are her husband, Michael Edens; mother, Bernice Babb Jessee, Duffield, Va.; sisters, Loretta Horton and husband Kenny, Clinchport, Va., Jackie Jessee, Weber City, Va.; brother, Larry Jessee and wife Patricia, Clinchport, Va.; niece, Nichole Jessee; nephews, Brandon Horton, Jeremy Horton, Jordan Horton, Zachary Jessee, Shaune Jessee and Larry Wayne Jessee; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ella Mae and Richard Edens, Mabe, Va.; several aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., and other times at the residence.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joe Roberts and Evangelist Garry Hood officiating.

Music will be provided by Working Toward the Promise.

Burial will follow at the Cox Chapel Church Cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Virgie Edens, 83, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Virgie Mae Edens, 83, Kingsport, who went to be with the Lord Tuesday evening (Nov. 30, 2004), will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bible Way Baptist Church, 570 Packinghouse Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660 or to the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 459 Old Beason Well Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.

Howard Ervin, 71, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Howard Ervin, 71, of the Manville community, passed away Thursday (Dec. 2, 2004) at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Paul Edwin Fugate, 74, Nickelsville, Va.
NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Paul Edwin Fugate, 74, passed away Thursday (Dec. 2, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Gertrude Gillenwater, 89, Gate City, Va.
Graveside services for Gertrude "Trudy" Gillenwater, 89, Gate City, Va., who passed away Monday (Nov. 29, 2004), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Holston View Cemetery. The family will meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Hensley, Walter Cassell, Richard Gillenwater, Sam Gillenwater, Terry Gillenwater, Terry Porter, Jerry Palmer, Chris Bayer.

In memory of Gertrude Gillenwater, memorial contributions may be made to Gate City United Methodist Church, 103 E. Walnut St., Gate City, Va. 24251 or charity of one's choice.

Don Gilliam, 65, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Don Gilliam, 65, of the Daniel Boone community of Gate City, died Wednesday morning (Dec. 1, 2004) at his residence.

Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late Emory and Laurie Frazier Gilliam, and was a retired coal miner.

Surviving are a special friend, Edith Page; brothers, Millard Gilliam of Jasper, Va., E.M. Gilliam and wife Pearl of Appalachia, Va., Luther Gilliam and wife Faye of Duffield, Va., Loren Gilliam and wife Jean of Duffield, Va., and Elbert Gilliam and wife Mabel of Church Hill; sisters, Ruby Rogers of Duffield, Va., Marie Bishop and husband Kent of Jasper, Va., and Bonnie Bishop of Jasper, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jackie Frazier and the Rev. Lonnie Townsend officiating.

Music will be provided by Friends of the Family.

Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Merdie Bishop cemetery in Jasper, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for procession to the cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Echol O. Hammonds, 78, Allen Park, Mich.
ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Echol O. Hammonds, 78, formerly of Gate City, Va., died peacefully Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) at his home after a brief illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph D. and Lovely J. Hammonds; and a sister, Thelma H. Shelton.

Surviving are his wife, Rosie Hammonds; daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Mike Carlson, Lansing, Mich.; son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Joanna Hammonds, Wyandotte, Mich.; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Teresia Hammonds, Gate City, Va.; aunt, Dorothy Spivey, Gate City, Va.; uncle, Joseph Christian, Gate City, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Zoran Funeral Home, 23750 Goddard Road, Taylor, Mich.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be immediately following the service.

Lonnie Johnson, 64, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Lonnie Johnson, 64, passed away Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital.

He was saved at an early age and attended Rogersville Church and Worship.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vicky Johnson Roberts; father, Zed Johnson; brother, Earl Johnson; two sisters, Peggy Johnson, Vola Parvin.

He is survived by his wife, Ressie Johnson, of the home; children, Lonnie Earl Johnson and wife Lisa, Linda Hopkins and husband Claude, Patricia Allen and husband David, Dwayne Johnson and wife Ginger, Pam Trott and husband Eddie, Patty Richards and husband Ronnie; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Johnny Johnson and wife Lucille; sister, Muzzetta Gladson all of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Billy W. Johnson officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Highland Cemetery.

Ralph L. "Bud" Light, 79, Chuckey.
CHUCKEY - Ralph L. "Bud" Light, 79, of Chuckey, died Wednesday evening (Dec. 1, 2004) at Laughlin Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Washington County, he resided in Greene County most of his life. He attended Chimney Top Freewill Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ilene Light; brother, Clifford Light; and sister, Jessie Faye Light.

Surviving are his wife, Effie Light, of the home; two daughters, Kathy Earley and husband Bill, Pine Grove community, and Connie Brown, Pine Grove community; stepdaughter, Ruby Jackson and husband Archie, Chuckey; stepson, Kenneth Wallen and wife Ruth, Kingsport; granddaughter, Tina Michelle Earley; five stepgrandchildren; sister, Neola Cooter, Baileyton; five brothers, Bob Light, Lost Mountain community, Claude Light, Baileyton, Raymond Light, Baileyton, Joe Light, Lost Mountain community, and John Cam Light Jr., Alexandria, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the Fall Branch Chapel with the Rev. Teddy Webb and the Rev. Keith Williams officiating.

Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Littleton, Randy Jackson, Jeffrey Wallen, Eddie Charlton, Billy McAmis, and Larry McAmis.

Gene Lipe, 74, Morristown.
MORRISTOWN - Gene Henry Lipe, 74, passed away on Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) at his residence.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and currently attended the All Saints Episcopal Church. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army for nine years, during which time he served in the Korean Conflict. He received the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, UN Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. In the 1980's, he served as Sergeant of the Honor Guard, Jr. Vice and Sr. Vice for the VFW Post 5266, from 1998-1999 served as post commander of the VFW Post 5266, and was the all state commander in 1998-1999. He was captain of the Rifle Squad and a lifelong member of the VFW. He worked as a mine engineer for Cowin and Company for 33 years and also worked several years at United Southern Bank in Morristown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Nettie Lipe; brother, Coy Lope; half-brother, Jack Lipe; sister-in-law, Ann Coyler; and brothers-in-law, James Waddell and Earl Johnson.

Surviving are his wife, Juanita Lipe; stepsons, Dan Leonard and wife Linda, and Larry Leonard and wife Darla; special niece, Pam and husband Dennis Sturm; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers, Ed (Louann) Lipe, Pete (Mary) Lipe and Roy (Margaret) Lipe; sisters, Bobbie Johnson and Betty (Fred) Manis; half-brother, Meryle Lipe and wife; sisters-in-law, Doresa Lipe, Paullete (David) Nelson; brother-in-law, Charles (Shirley) Waddell; also several other nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Scherry Fouke and the Rev. J.B. Gulley officiating.

Military graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hamblen Memory Gardens with VFW Post 5266 officiating.

Frankie McCloud, 59, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Frankie McCloud "Ramblin Rose, " 59, went to be with the Lord on Thursday (Dec. 2, 2004) at 8 a.m. at his home surrounded by his family.

He attended Yuma Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ. Mr. McCloud enjoyed fishing, camping, and talking on the C.B. radio. He loved his children and grandchildren.

His parents, Stanley and Lula McCloud; and a brother, Richard McCloud, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his wife, Carolyn McCloud, Kingsport; one daughter, Rebecca Jane Estep, Yuma, Va.; two sons, Frank McCloud, Nickelsville, Va., William Bartley and wife, Vickie, Church Hill; seven grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Hall and husband, Edd, Church Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

The body of Mr. McCloud will be taken to Yuma Full Gospel Church of Jesus Christ at 4:30 p.m. today where the family will receive friends beginning at 6 p.m.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with Rev. Margaret Price and Rev. Donald Derrick officiating.

Burial will follow at Hermon United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wellmont Hospice House, P. O. Box 238, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses of Wellmont Hospice who did a good job caring for Frankie.

Verna Moody, 98, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Verna Ellen Moody, 98, passed away Thursday (Dec. 2, 2004) at The Wexford House.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Frank Murphy, 85, Gray.
GRAY - Frank Murphy, 85, 158 Bentley Parc, died Dec. 1, 2004 Appalachian Christian Village after an extended illness.

He was a native of Yancey County, N.C. and had lived in the Tri-Cities area since 1949.

He was a son of the late Merritt and Missouri Howell Murphy.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church.

Mr. Murphy was a veteran of the Army Air Corps. He had been retired from Tennessee Eastman Company since 1983 after 341/2 years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Etta Adkins and an infant sister, Myrtle Murphy; three brothers, Henry Murphy, Troy Murphy, and Ed Murphy; and two nephews, Reece Murphy and Ernest Adkins.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Duncan Murphy, of the home; his son and daughter-in-law, Frank Daymon and Anna Murphy, San Antonio, Tex.; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna Murphy and Richard Nodler, Philadelphia, Pa.; his mother-in-law, Esther Duncan, Johnson City; sister-in-law, Dorothy Murphy, Erwin; an especially close niece, Trula Bryant, Jonesborough; an especially close nephew and his wife, Ellis and Doris Murphy; and four other nieces, Evelyn Lewis and Maude Snyder, both of Denton, N.C., Shirley Wright, Charlotte, N.C., and Karen Murphy, Erwin.

Calling hours are from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City.

Entombment services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Dr. Ron Murray and Rev. R. Willard Warfield will officiate.
