APPLEYARD, Nelda Jane, age 80 of North Freedom, Wisc., died at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wisc. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, due to complications from heart surgery. She was born on Aug. 17, 1926 in Winchester, the daughter of the late Jesse Fanning and Vannie Mae (Collins) Fanning. She is survived by her children, John (Nancy) Appleyard and Martha (Tom) Glowacki, both of Roxbury, Wisc.; a grandson, David Appleyard of Boston; two brothers, Harry and Don Fanning of Tenn.; and a sister, Mary of Mich.
PATTY, Jennie R., age 63 of Sewanee died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006 at Emerald-Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee. She was born in Decherd and was a clerk at Wal-Mart. She was a member of the Jumpoff Baptist Church. Mrs. Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Nathan Gass and Verdie Katherine Smith Gass and her husband, Ralph Patty. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (William) Lane of Sewanee; a brother, Ralph (Joyce) Gass of White Bluff; a grandson, Austin Rogers of Sewanee; two granddaughters, Leslie Rogers of Cowan and Chasity Rogers of Arab, Ala.; two great-grandchildren, Skyla Scott of Cowan and Reece Gipson of Arab, Ala.; two step-grandchildren, Cody and Whitney Lane of Soddy Daisy; and six nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Thursday, Oct. 19, 2006 at 5 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Chapel in Winchester. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. Gene Haga officiating. Interment will be in the Eastern Star Cemetery in Sewanee. NUNLEY, Georgia Lee, age 81 of Tracy City, succumbed to an extended illness Friday, Jan. 13, 2006 at a Sewanee hospital where she was surrounded by her family. She was born on July 19, 1924 to the late Frank C and Alice V. Lockhart, and was reared in the Orange Hill Community of Tracy City. She moved to Palmer and, later in the early 1950’s moved to Cleveland, OH where she worked at Industrial Plants. After moving back to Tracy City in the mid-1960’s, she worked at several restaurants in Monteagle before retiring. She was preceded in death by siblings: Florence Bouldin, Minnie Geary, Wilson Lockhart, Clarence Alton (Dink) Lockhart, and John Lockhart. In addition, her former husbands preceded her in death: Isaac H. Nunley and Eugene Gifford, along with her precious children, Gary E. Gifford and Kathy Nunley VanHooser. She is survived by a daughter, Donna Basham and husband Glenn of Tracy City; sons, Mike Gifford of Pelham, Keith Nunley and wife Charlene of Gruetli-Laager and Rick Nunley and wife, Terry of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Jimmy Blair, Ryan VanHooser, Jason Nunley, Jared Nunley, Richard Nunley, Derrick Nunley, Gary Gifford, Jr., Melissa Gifford Sanders, Laura Gifford, Michelle Nunley Whiteaker, Dusty Geary Adkins and Alice VanHooser; 16 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Faye (Trixie) Pickett and Ella Cheatum Hanson of Birmingham, AL. Mrs. Nunley was a member of the Orange Hill Primitive Baptist Church and the Orange Hill Cemetery Memorial Association. The family received friends on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 beginning at 1 p.m. at Foster and Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City. VANZANT, Alton Houston, age 94 of Belvidere, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2006. He was born in Franklin County and was a farmer. He is survived by his daughter, Ruth Stewart of Belvidere; a son, Thomas[ Clay Vanzant of Belvidere; two brothers, A.C. (Buddy) Vanzant of Tullahoma and Horace Clay Vanzant of Belvidere; nine grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. KISH, Glenn Frank, age 69 of Winchester, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester. He was born in Detroit, MI and was employed by General Motors as a Tool and Die Welder. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Kish of Winchester; a daughter, Deborah Kish of Wyandotte, MI; four sons, Robert Swartzentrover of Shelbyville, William Swartzentrover of Winchester, Dennis Swartzentrover of Watertown and Mike Kish of Wyandotte, MI; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. GARNER, Reba Finney, age 92, of Winchester, passed away Thursday, Jan. 12, 2006 at Sunbridge Nursing Home. Mrs. Garner was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Winchester. She was a school teacher, retiring after 35 years of teaching and a member of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Garner is preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, Olis L. Garner; a sister, Leta Simpson and a brother, Raymond Finney. She is survived by her daughters, Reba Dixie (James) Cunningham and Bobbie Sue (Jim) Pack of Winchester; grandchildren, Teresa Lucas of Knoxville, Janet Briggs of Seattle, WA, Bond H. Little III and Scotty Little of Winchester; step-grandchildren, Lisa Prince and Susie Larson of Winchester; five great grandchildren and two nephews. A graveside service was conducted on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006 at 3 p.m. at Mt. Garner Cemetery with Rev. J.D. Spencer, officiating. She was born in Franklin County and was a homemaker and a member of the Broadview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Della Mae and Mack Wilcox; two brothers, James and Fred Wilcox; and a sister, Maggie Hill. RILEY, Onis, age 80 of Huntland, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006 at St. Thomas Hospital. She was born in Tennessee. She is survived by: her twin sister, Owene Parker of Huntland; a brother, Thomas H. Riley of Lincoln County; five nieces, Randi Stewart, Timber Stewart and Stephanie Lee, all of Huntland, Jolinda Shepherd and Patricia Gifford, both of Winchester; and two nephews, James Lee of Huntland and Cody Shepherd of Winchester.
