Virgie Edens, 83, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Virgie Mae Edens, 83, went to be with the Lord Tuesday evening (Nov. 30, 2004) at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Hawkins County and had been a resident of Kingsport most of her life. Ms. Edens retired from Tennessee Eastman after 42 years of service in the acetate yarn division as an inspector.
She was a member of Bible Way Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Houston David Edens and Mary Effie Palmer Edens; a sister, Bertha Edens Carpenter; and a brother, L.C. "Carson" Edens.
Surviving are a sister-in-law, Lena Edens of Kingsport; a nephew, Jack C. Edens and wife Lisa Kayser Edens of Roebuck, S.C.; seven nieces, Sharon McMahill and husband Chris, Jan Carpenter, Patsy Nichols and husband David, Phyllis Patterson, Lois Jenkins and Jerry Riddle, all of Kingsport and Margaret Edens Mullins of New Jersey; a special first cousin, Anabelle Begley; and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Robert Fletcher officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

KINGSPORT - Mrs. Myrdith G. Emmert, 88, died Wednesday (Dec. 1, 2004) in the Wexford House, Kingsport.
Mrs. Emmert lived most of her life in Unicoi County and was a daughter of the late John M. and Etta Garland Bailey. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Emmert was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Emmert; a son, George W. "Bud" Emmert, Jr.; a daughter, Patricia Bowen; two brothers, Lester Bailey and J. C. Bailey; three sisters, Geneva Ghormley, Chloe Powers and Mae Hill; and a grandson, Paul Elrod.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Thomas M. and Georgia Emmert, Erwin, and Gregory P. Emmert, Johnson City; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbara and Wayne Renfro and Jennifer and Johnny Calloway, all of Kingsport, Kathy Franklin, Johnson City, and Betty Jo Emmert, Jonesborough; 15 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and her caregivers at Wexford House.

KINGSPORT - Jack (J.D.) Persinger, 73, a devoted husband, father and papaw, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (Nov. 30, 2004) at Bristol Hospice House.
J.D. was a member of Orebank Freewill Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Bristol Hospice House.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Loise Persinger; grandson, Timothy Nathaniel True; his parents, James and Dona Persinger; several brothers and a sister.

Eric Stevens Rozier, Kingsport.
CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Eric Stevens Rozier, formerly of Raleigh, N.C., passed away Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2004) in Cullowhee, N.C., after a long period of declining health.
He was born May 21, 1951 in Kingsport. Eric attended St. Dominic's Parochial School for eight years before going on to graduate from Dobyns-Bennett High School. After graduation from high school he attended NC State, where he graduated cum laude with a degree in history and was a member of Sigma Chi.
Eric received his MBA from Bristol College and attended the University of Tennessee as a graduate student in history.
He had a long career with various manufacturing firms in Purchasing and Materials Management. He retired several years ago due to declining health.
He was currently on a teaching fellowship at Western Carolina University where he was pursuing a masters degree in Public History.
Eric loved coaching soccer and playing virtually any musical instrument he could get his hands on, including the guitar, harmonica, and piano.
He was a devoted and loving father.
Mr. Rozier was preceded in death by his father, Bill Rozier; and step-father, Bob Adams.
He is survived by his children, Jessica Frost Rozier of Wilkesboro, N.C., Sarah Clinton Rozier of Apex, N.C., and William Stevens Rozier of Charleston, S.C.; his mother, Peet Rozier Adams of Kingsport; his brother, Butch Rozier and wife Lou of Pittsboro, N.C.; his sisters, Suzy Rozier of Kingsport and Maryanne Rozier Chiriboga and family of Brea, Ca.; his step-brothers, Robert Adams and family of Richmond, Ky., and Mike Adams and family of Kingsport; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at St. Dominic's Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Burton and Rev. Les Schmidt officiating.
The family will welcome friends from 10 until 11 a.m. at the church.

KINGSPORT - Lynn Marshall Shetterly, passed away at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center on Monday, Nov. 29, 2004 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
The son of Lawrence Marshall Shetterly and Pearl Keeler Shetterly, Lynn was born Oct. 27, 1927 in Knoxville, Tenn. He moved with his family to Kingsport in 1931. He attended Kingsport City Schools, graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1947, after serving a year in the United States Navy during that time. He was a proud promoter of D-B activities, and watched enthusiastically the Alumni Field House construction. He held in great esteem his memory of families, people, places, events, dates and buildings in the area.
A brickmason by trade, he was a lifetime member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union, serving as bookkeeper many years. He prided himself on having masonry contributions to Kingsport's Fort Henry Mall, Washington School, Holston Valley Hospital, Indian Path Hospital, as well as out of town buildings, King College, John Sevier Steam Plant, Carter County High School, to name a few. During his retirement, he donated masonry skills on the Buffalo Mountain Camp and Retreat & Learning Center, for which he was honored with Gold Brick recognition June 6, 1993.
A faithful member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Lynn served as Trustee, Usher and on the Maintenance Committee. He served the Fidelis Sunday School Class as long time Secretary-Treasurer and loved the members who will serve as honorary pallbearers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Marshall Shetterly; sister, Vennie S. Parker; nephew, Gregory Lee Crawford.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Jean Crawford Shetterly, mother, Pearl Keeler Shetterly, sister and brother in law, Betty S. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hibert Tackett Sr., and daughter, Mary Elizabeth Tackett.

KINGSPORT - Mrs. Emily B. Ball, 80, died on Monday (Nov. 29, 2004) at NHC in Johnson City.
She was born on Oct. 8, 1924, in Williamsport, Pa., to Rolland and Theresa Drum Bostley.
Mrs. Ball grew up in Oakmont, Pa. She married
Frederick M. Ball in 1944, and moved to Kingsport in 1951. Mrs. Ball was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Arlene Riddle and her husband, Greg, Jonesborough, and Bonnie Wallace and her husband, Dean, Louisville, Ky.; a son, David Ball and his wife, Teri, Knoxville; and three grandchildren, Daniel Wallace, Florida, Lisa Wallace, Lexington, Ky., and Stephen Ball, Knoxville.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Ball was preceded in death by a son, John Ball; and a sister, Arlene Winkleman.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, 136 Bob Jobe Road, Gray, with Rev. Joe Adams officiating.
