Roy Napier, 81, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Roy Napier of Big Stone Gap, Va., was born in St. Charles, Va., on Friday, Dec. 8, 1922, and departed this life on Tuesday (Nov. 30, 2004) at the Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap at the age of 81.
He lived in Big Stone Gap for about 38 years, where he formerly operated the Trail Motel. He was married
on Aug. 10, 1946 in Bonny Blue, Va., to Gertrude Pinyon, who preceded him in death on May 5, 2003.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Harmon and Phoebe Napier; three brothers, Feline, George and Loreed Napier; and three sisters, Flossie Mae Quinley, Josie West and Naomi Napier.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include one brother, Hobert Napier of Duffield; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at Province Funeral Home in Pennington Gap, Va.
Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the sanctuary of the funeral home with the Rev. Polk Johnson officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Powell Valley cemetery in Dryden, Va. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go to the cemetery.

KINGSPORT - Jack Persinger, 73, of Kingsport, passed away Tuesday evening (Nov. 30, 2004) at Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn.

KINGSPORT - Lynn Marshall Shetterly passed away at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center on Monday (Nov. 29, 2004) after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
The son of Lawrence Marshall Shetterly and Pearl Keeler Shetterly, Lynn was born Oct. 27, 1927 in Knoxville, Tenn. He moved with his family to Kingsport in 1931. He attended Kingsport City Schools, graduating from Dobyns-Bennett High School in 1947, after serving a year in the United States Navy during that time. He was a proud promoter of D-B activities, and watched enthusiastically the Alumni Field House construction. He held in great esteem his memory of families, people, places, events, dates and buildings in the area.
A brickmason by trade, he was a lifetime member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Union, serving as bookkeeper many years. He prided himself on having masonry contributions to Kingsport's Fort Henry Mall, Washington School, Holston Valley Hospital, Indian Path Hospital, as well as out of town buildings, King College, John Sevier Steam Plant, Carter County High School, to name a few. During his retirement, he donated masonry skills on the Buffalo Mountain Camp and Retreat & Learning Center, for which he was honored with Gold Brick recognition June 6, 1993.
A faithful member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church, Lynn served as Trustee, Usher and on the Maintenance Committee. He served the Fidelis Sunday School Class as long time Secretary-Treasurer and loved the members who will serve as honorary pallbearers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Marshall Shetterly; sister, Vennie S. Parker; nephew, Gregory Lee Crawford.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Jean Crawford Shetterly, mother, Pearl Keller Shetterly, sister and brother-in-law, Betty S. Frye and Richard Frye, Gainesville, Fla., brother-in-law, Merle Parker and wife Bertie, Blountville, brother-in-law, Lee Crawford and wife Gay, Kingsport, aunts, Edith Sharp, Kingsport, and Christine Keller, New Market, uncle, Dick Janeway, New Market, nephews, Richard Parker, Oak Ridge, Steve Parker, Fredericksburg, Va., Erick Frye, San Ramon, Calif., Blake Frye, Jacksonville, Fla., nieces, Sindy P. Ramsey, Blountville, Kathy Ferguson, Cantonment, Fla., Tracie C. Hall, Kingsport; godchild, Mary Carter Whitaker, several cousins, great- nephews, great-nieces, supportive neighbors, many friends.
A memorial celebration will be held at First Broad Street United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, with the Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Committal service will be held at Oak Hill, 10:30 a.m.

NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Mattie Lee Stapleton, 85, of Route 2, passed away Tuesday (Nov. 30, 2004) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Scott County. Va., on Feb. 7, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Clifton and Hattie Dean.
She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Stapleton; brothers, Vernon Dean and Millard Dean.
Surviving are her sisters, Mammie Sue Dean and Emmie Meade, both of Nickelsville, Va.; brothers, Charlie Dean, Gate City, Va., and Scott Dean, Nickelsville, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Frank E. Waldo Sr., 85, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Frank Ernest Waldo, Sr., 85, passed away Monday (Nov. 29, 2004) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a period of declining health.
Frank was born Feb. 13, 1919 in Huntington, Ore., he was the son of the late Bion and Mamie Annabell (Williams) Waldo.
Frank was retired military officer serving 32 years with the U.S. Army. He was a charter member of the VFW.
He was a member of the Cedar View Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder.
Frank is survived by his wife, Clara Elizabeth (Grills) Waldo, of the home; his children, Frank Ernest Waldo and wife Rebecca, Daniel Bion Waldo and wife Sharon, and David William Waldo and wife Kent; his grandchildren, Brian Douglas Waldo and wife Tina, Jeremiah David Waldo, Kelley Germaine, Kristin Danielle Marshall and husband Kevin, Caralee Dawn Waldo; his great-grandchildren, Sydney Allyson Waldo and Hayden Matthew Marshall; and a very special nephew who was more of a son, Wallace Grills. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and cousins.

Irma Bailey Boys, 71, Newport, Tenn.
NEWPORT, Tenn. - Irma Garland Bailey Boys, 71, of Newport, passed away Monday (Nov. 29, 2004) in Newport at the Baptist Convalescent Center. She is now at peace after succumbing to the effects of Alzheimer's Disease.
Born July 17, 1933 in Bakersville, N.C., to Jeter and Beulah (Bowman) Garland, she was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She graduated from Harris High School in Spruce Pine, N.C., in 1951. She graduated from Mars Hill College in 1953, and, in 1971, earned her B.S. degree in elementary education from East Tennessee State University.
In 1953 she was married
to Ted K. Bailey, a native of Green Mountain, N.C., who preceded her in death in 1970.
She became a teacher in the Sullivan County School System, having taught most recently at Miller-Perry Elementary School in the Colonial Heights community of Kingsport from 1974 until 1998.
In 1981, she married
Roger Boys, a native of Hays, Kans. Mr. Boys preceded her in death in 1989.
Irma enjoyed a large group of friends, attending theater plays, extensive travels, and especially time spent with her precious three children and six grandchildren.
Surviving are her children: daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dr. Ken Johnson of Newport, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Ted (Kyle) Jr. and Tammie Bailey of Greer, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and James Kerce of Flowery Branch, Ga.; and six grandchildren, Will, Sarah and Elizabeth Johnson, of Newport, Ted Kyle Bailey III and Keaton Bailey, of South Carolina, and Rachel Kerce of Georgia. Her surviving sister and nephew, Mrs. Kenneth (June) Lentz and Dr. Ken Lentz Jr., reside in Spruce Pine, N.C. Other surviving family members include sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Jim Brown, Kent, Wash., and Marilyn and Pat Schiedt, Kansas; brothers and sister-in-law, Ron and Evvie Boys, Logan, Kans., and Richard Boys, Logan, Kans.; and three stepdaughters, Barbara Boys Hale, Kathy Boys, and Leesa Boys Head.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Manes Funeral Home in Newport.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Newport.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Christian; her parents, James and Isabelle Dykes Christian; sisters, Frankie Kincheloe, Ruth Christian and Willie Smith; stepson, Demas Christian; and son-in-law, Dwayne Arnold.

Ralph L. Cutshall, 83, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Ralph L. Cutshall, 83, died Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at Rogersville Care and Rehab after an extended illness.
He was born in 1921 in South Central, Pa., and was the son of Dorsey and Dorcas Cutshall. He was raised in the Methodist church.
He joined the U.S. Navy 1939 after graduating as valedictorian of his high school class. After six years, he left the Navy as a chief aerographer's mate (weather) to join the U.S Weather Bureau. In the 1960s, he forecast for many of NASA's shots. He retired after 37 years of government service.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; daughters, Kathleen, California, Trudy, Northern Virginia, Lorne and Jane, Oregon, and Gretchen, Seattle; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred, Albuquerque, N.M., Gail, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Margery, Ulburn, Ga.; and a brother, Robert, Mt. Union, Pa.
A family memorial will be held in Oregon with interment at Williamette National Cemetery, Portland, Ore.
