Lesley (Les) Hartgrove, 56, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Lesley (Les) Hartgrove, 56, of Kingsport, departed this life to be reunited with his mother and father on Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at the UT Medical Center in Knoxville following a brief illness. He will be truly missed by his wife and best friend, Charlotte.

Les was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and had worked at Eastman for over 25 years. He was a sergeant in the Army serving in the motor pool in Texas and Korea. Les loved to work on his antique cars.

Mr. Hartgrove was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Marie Hartgrove.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 36 years, Charlotte Osborne Hartgrove; a brother, Arthur Lee "Art" Hartgrove; two nephews, Brandon Hartgrove and wife, Tammy, and Jason Hartgrove and wife, Miranda; a great-nephew, who was the love of Les' life, Jacob Hartgrove; his loving pet, "Peanut"; and special friends, Ronnie Minga and Candy Naff, Dallas and Bobbie Shoun, Mitch Jessee, Ivan Phipps and Tom Kiser.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Freddie Robinette and Pastor Joe Hill officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Hermon United Methodist church cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.

Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.

To those who desire, memorial contributions may be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Hermon United Methodist Church's cemetery grounds fund, 15175 E. Carters Valley Road, Gate City, VA 24251.

Jewel V. Loggans, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Jewel V. Loggans, Kingsport, died Sunday (Nov. 28, 2004).

Born in February of 1937 in Kingsport, she was the daughter of James B. and Bertha Alice Vaughn.

Surviving are her husband, John J. Loggans; son, Geoffrey Loggans; daughter, Kimberly Grissom; two granddaughters, Angel Loggans and Amy Grissom; one grandson, Michael J. Christian, all of Kingsport; and two sisters, Maggie Richardson of Gallatin, Tenn., and Ruby Haun McAvoy of Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 9 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. J.W. Depew officiating.

Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be given to the church of donor's choice.

William M. Maynard, 64, Colonial Heights.
COLONIAL HEIGHTS - William M. "Bill" Maynard, 64, Colonial Heights, died unexpectedly at his home at 1500 hours (3 p.m.) Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004).

Born in Paterson, N.J., he received a BS degree from Philadelphia University, formerly Philadelphia Textile, and came to Kingsport in 1962 as a textile chemist with Eastman. He later worked in the WasteWater Treatment Plant and retired from the Safety Department.

Bill served as past-president of Warriors Path Volunteer Fire Department, past chairman of the HAZMAT Subcommittee and the Sullivan County Integrated Emergency Preparedness Council. Bill was administrator for Northeast Tennessee's Critical Incident Stress Management.

He refereed in all levels of local soccer including recreational, high school, college, and state. He served as an officer in soccer. Bill also served other various volunteer and civic organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Benz and Margaret Maurer Maynard.

Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Carolyn Hammond Maynard, of the home; one daughter, Lora Maynard Simpson and husband, Jerry, of Sparta, Tenn.; one son, Kent Quillen Maynard and wife, Kim Lanford Maynard, of Kingsport; three grandchildren, Shaina Lanford, Patrick Lanford, and Jaden Maynard; one sister, Andrea Cassel and husband, Wendel, of Newark, Del.; one brother, Winfield Maynard and wife, Gail, of Warwick, N.Y.; two nephews, Michael Cassel and Robert Maynard; and one niece, Rebecca Maynard Cortese and husband, Marc.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church with the Rev. J. Thomas Phillips officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be the members of Warriors Path Volunteer Fire Department and the Tri-Cities Soccer Referees Association.

Karl David Morgan, 44, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Services for Karl David Morgan, 44, of Kingsport, who passed away Friday (Nov. 26, 2004), will be at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill cemetery with the Rev. Greg Street officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Ken Bowling, Colin Green, Ron Balthis, Ken Flanary, Greg Vicars and Jeff Colley.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown, is serving the Morgan family.

Fred Morris, 85, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Fred Morris, 85, of Kingsport, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 11 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at Indian Path Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born in Big Stone Gap, Va., on June 26, 1919, a son of the late Charles H. and Nancy Hall Morris, he had resided in this area for the past 60 years.

Mr. Morris retired from Mead Corporation following 42 years of service. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Morris was a member of Cassidy United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688 F.&A.M., a York Rite Mason, a Scottish Rite Mason, a Jericho Shiner and a member of the Eastern Star.

Mr. Morris will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and brother, who loved to work outside in his garden, and for his service to the Masonic Order.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ruth Lee Morris, April 19, 1997; and two brothers, Jim Morris and Carl Morris; and one sister, Mable Morris.

Survivors include one daughter, Deloris M. Cole and husband, Don of Blountville; two grandchildren, Donna Cole and Mark Cole; two great-grandchildren, Matthew Cole and Michael Cole; one great-great-grandson, Mason Cole; three sisters, Edith Gillenwater of Derby, Va., Lois Gilley of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gladys Cox of Kingsport; one brother, Roy Morris of Columbia, S.C.; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the chapel with the Rev. Steve Averoad and the Rev. Jim Jenkins officiating.

Masonic memorial services will be conducted prior to the funeral services by Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688 F.&A.M.

Burial will follow graveside services at 1 p.m. Tuesday in East Lawn Memorial Park Garden of Love.

Pallbearers will be Mark Cole, Michael Cole, Matthew Cole, David Cole, Henry Prater and Matthew Price.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Campbell, Wayne Klepper, Clint Carroll and Bucky Cox.

Ila Otis, 90, Knoxville.
KNOXVILLE - Ila Otis, 90, of Knoxville and formerly of Bristol, Tenn., and Endeavor, Wis., died peacefully on Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at Hillcrest West Nursing Home.

She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Bristol, Tenn., and was very active in the Bristol community. She was an active piano player, Bridge player, Bingo player and sang with the "Sweet Adelines" for many years. Ila was a lover of life and she lived life to the fullest as she gave of herself often to her community and her family. Ila was a teachers' aid at Lincoln Elementary School in Bristol, Tenn., for many years.

She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Dr. Mickeal and Pam Otis of Knoxville, Dr. James and Brenda Otis of Bristol, Va., and Rev. John and Chris Otis of Cummings, Ga. Ila had 10 grandchildren and one great- grandson; a brother and sister-in-law, Eldon and Norma Audiss; and brother, Gene Audis of Endeavor, Wis.; sister and brother-in-law, Lola and Don Richardson of Marysville, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Otis will be intered beside her husband, Marshall Otis in the Moundsville Methodist Church cemetery in Endeavor, Wis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Music Fund of First Broad Street United Methodist Church.

Betty Godsey Perkins, 80, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Services for Betty Godsey Perkins, 80, Johnson City and formerly of Knoxville, who went to the waiting arms of her husband, "Perk" on Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at First Christian Church in Kingsport.

Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer Association, 207 N. Boone Street, Suite 1500, Johnson City, TN 37604.

Jonathon Clyde Simcox, 86, Blountville.
BLOUNTVILLE - Jonathon Clyde Simcox, 86, of Blountville, passed away Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center.

He was born in Bristol, Va., the son of the late Eula and Ellis Simcox. He was a resident of Blountville for the past 55 years. He attended Glad Tiding Assembly of God in Bristol, Tenn. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.

A loving father and devoted husband, Mr. Simcox is survived by his wife of 66 years, Naomi Henegar Simcox; two sons, Wayne A. Simcox and wife, Nancy of Johnson City, and Larry C. Simcox of Blountville; one daughter, Carol S. Speaks of Kingsport; five grandchildren, Shane Warren, Kristy Simcox, Amy Singleton, Gabriel Speaks, and Heather Speaks; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Akard Funeral Home, Bristol, Tenn.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Thrasher officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Mt. View Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shane Warren, Gabriel Speaks, Verlin Simcox, Ray Peters, Willis Graybeal, Hal Cole and Ron Hartsock.

Honorary pallbearers will be Marty Singleton, Phil Kendrick, Bobby Hughes, and Jay Tallman.

Robert M. Sneed, 69, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Robert M. Sneed, 69, 1817 Oakwood Drive, who went to be with the Lord Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with military rites by Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 of the VFW.

Friends are asked to meet at the graveside prior to services.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby "Peg" Suiter, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - On Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at 5:30 a.m., Ruby "Peg" White Suiter passed through the curtain and into the presence of her Lord to receive her heavenly reward.

She leaves many people to be saddened by their loss of this wonderful, godly friend, but they will rejoice that she is now free of earthly pain.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Sam Suiter in 1971; godly parents, Ezra White and Minnie Holbrook White; brother, Carl B. White; sister, Thelma Bradford.

Those family members and friends left to continue their earthly journey without Ruby "Peg" include her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bill Kilgore of Kingsport; granddaughter, Karen Kilgore of Kingsport; and grandson, Ken Kilgore, and his wife, Debra Street-Kilgore of Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Verna Greear of Kingsport; sister-in-law, Vivian White of Kingsport; several very special nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Suiter was a member of First Christian Church of Kingsport.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Private graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday at Oak Hill cemetery with the Rev. Al Johnson officiating.

Bertha Swafford, 92, Kingsport.
Services for Mrs. Bertha Mae Swafford, 92, 134 East Wanola Ave., Kingsport, who departed this life Thursday morning (Nov. 25, 2004), will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday from Central Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Anthony Daniels officiating.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church.

Interment will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.

Mrs. Bertha Mae Swafford and family are in the care of Robinson Funeral Services, Kingsport.

Virginia H. Whetsel, 80, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Virginia H. Whetsel, 80, Kingsport, died Saturday night (Nov. 27, 2004) at Preston Place Suites after an extended illness.

Born in Knoxville, she resided in Kingsport since 1950. She graduated from Knoxville High School, attended UT – Knoxville, and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Knoxville. Mrs. Whetsel was a registered nurse, educator, and homemaker.

She was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and active in volunteer work.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit B. Whetsel; parents, Shields and Ruth Hodges; and one brother, James Shields Hodges Jr.

Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, Mac and Cindy Whetsel of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Bob and Melynda Whetsel of Knoxville, Andy and Karen Whetsel of Kingsport, and Doug and Patty Whetsel of West Covina, Calif.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, William H. Hodges Sr. of Johnson City; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Broad Street United Methodist Church.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Jack Edwards officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be given to First Broad Street United Methodist Church, 100 E. Church Circle, Kingsport, TN 37760 or to Friends-In-Need, 102 E. Ravine Road, Kingsport, TN 37660.
