Sylvia Whited, 78, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Sylvia "Nanny" Whited, 78, entered her heavenly home on Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at her home with her husband, her children and grandchildren at her bedside.

She was born and lived in Russell County, Va., until she married her husband and moved to Wise County. She had many talents, but her love was being a beautician. She owned and operated Sylvia's Beauty Shop for over 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Lewis; her mother, Rosa Fields Lewis Sexton; her stepfather, Hargess Sexton; brothers, C.W. Lewis and Tom Lewis; and sister, Ruby Hamilton.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Bill Whited Jr.; daughter, Margaret Ann Hamilton and husband, Jerry; son, Butch Whited; and special daughter, Nancy Toney and husband, Joe, all of Big Stone Gap; grandchildren, Missy Thacker and husband, Ray, of Roanoke, Va., and Mandy Blanton and husband, Brandon, of Charleston, W.Va., B.J. and Alyson Whited of Big Stone Gap; great- grandchildren, Meygan and Houston Thacker and Madison and Eli Blanton; brothers, George Lewis and wife, Betty, of Norton, Va., Harry Lewis and wife, Flo, of Meadowview, Va., J.R. Sexton, Robert Sexton and wife, Bonny, all of Richmond, Va., and Pete Sexton of Peoria, Ariz.; sisters, Nancy Branch and Jody Grady, both of Richmond, Va.; and special caregivers, Glinda Garrett and Donna Dorton; Hospice nurses, Lisa Wiseman and Dorothy Qualls; Dr. Mark Taylor and Dr. Michael Ford.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap.

Services will follow at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bobby Hamilton and the Rev. Lonnie Brooks officiating.

Committal services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview cemetery in East Stone Gap, Va. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Stone Gap Baptist Church Building Fund or to the East Stone Gap Church Hamilton Mission Fund, both being addressed to P.O. Box 100, East Stone Gap, VA 24246.

Peyton L. Broome, 7-day-old, Fall Branch.
Graveside services for Peyton Lawson Broome, of Fall Branch, son of Jason and Amy Broome, who went to be with Jesus on Monday (Nov. 15, 2004), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the East Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Garry Eads officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Broome, Brady Lawson and Andrew Broome.

East Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mabel D. Carson, 91, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Mabel D. Carson, 91, of 2243 E. Main Street, Rogersville, passed away Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at Rogersville Care and Rehab Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter A. Carson; parents, Howard and Ollie Davidson.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Bert Russell of Rogersville; grandchildren, Walter Russell and wife, Julie, Bert Russell Jr. and wife, Mary, all of Rogersville; great-grandchildren, Autumn and Cheyenne Russell, Jordan, Emily and Mel Russell; brother, Jimmy Davidson of Lawrenceville, Ga.; several cousins.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Highland cemetery with the Rev. John North officiating.

Ralph L. Cutshall, 83, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Ralph L. Cutshall, 83, went to be with the Lord late Saturday night (Nov. 27, 2004) at Rogersville Health Care and Rehabilitation Center after an extended illness.

Survivors and arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill.

Pearl Forbes, 93, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Margaret Pearl Pettigrew Forbes, 93, Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Saturday (Nov. 27, 2004) at Netherland HealthCare at Baysmont.

Born in Ontario, Canada, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Lilly Hartnett. Pearl came to the United States in 1942 and was naturalized in 1962. She moved to Kingsport in 1968 from Saginaw, Mich. For most of her life she owned and operated retail grocery businesses. She retired from Sears Roebuck where she was a head cashier.

Pearl was an auxiliary volunteer at Holston Valley Medical Center for 14 years and an active member of Tri-Cities Baptist Church.

Her first husband, Edward E. Pettigrew; her second husband, Andrew W. Forbes; a stepson, Donald Forbes; one brother, Joseph Hartnett; and two sisters, Ola Pettigrew and Verna Theursam preceded her in death.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Buddy and Peggy Pettigrew, Kingsport; one stepdaughter, Joyce Hallead, Avinger, Texas; one stepson, John Forbes, Baldwin, Kans.; two grandchildren, Cyndy McGovern and Kris Pettigrew; six great-granddaughters, four step-grandchildren; two sisters, Marion Oneil, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, and Edith Shaw, Niagara Falls, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Tri-Cities Baptist Church.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday at the church with Associate Pastor Gene Mermilliod officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at East Lawn Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Verlin Overbay, Paul Borisuk, and Charles Chandler.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tri-Cities Baptist Church Building Fund, 171 Promise Land Drive, Gray, TN 37615.

Clarence Dulaney Harr, 77, Bristol.
BRISTOL - Clarence Dulaney "C.D." Harr, 77, went to be with the Lord Friday evening (Nov. 26, 2004) in NHC HealthCare of Bristol after a period of declining health.

A native and lifelong resident of Sullivan County, he was the son of the late Clarence Earl "Earl C." and Ella Clark Harr.

He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Donna Lynn Harr; and a son, Michael Edwin Harr, who died in Vietnam.

Mr. Harr served four years in the U.S. Navy. Following his return from service, he was employed at Kyle Motor Company, in Bristol, for a number of years. He then became a partner in Shankle-Harr Garage and later became owner/operator, where he worked until his retirement.

He was a member of Blountville Presbyterian Church, were he served as a Sunday School teacher, superintendent of Sunday School, choir member, treasurer, deacon and elder.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Dorothy "Dot" B. Wills Harr; three sisters and husbands, Lucille and Grover Winegar, Sue and Fred Wagner, and Ann and Charles Mays, all of Blountville; five brothers and wives, Herman and Betty Harr, Wayne and Vivian Harr, and Jerry and Rebecca Harr, all of Blountville, Willard and Jerrie Harr, Centerville, Md., Dale and Virginia Harr, Kingsport; also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Akard Funeral Home, Bristol, Tenn.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Blountville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Everett officiating.

Interment will be in Blountville Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the following nephews, Gary Winegar, Mark Winegar, Phillip Wagner, Kevin Wagner, Ken Harr, Wesley Harr, Tim Harr and Charlie Mays.

Honorary pallbearers will be men of the Blountville Presbyterian Church and his friends.

Memorials may be made to the Blountville Presbyterian Church.

William H. Harrison, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - William H. Harrison passed away at home Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2004) from Parkinson's Disease.

Born Jan. 18, 1916 in Grand Island, Neb., Bill, as he was known to all, graduated from Iowa State University and began a 45-year career with Eastman Kodak in 1936 as a chemical engineer in Rochester, N.Y.

Married Nov. 30, 1940 to Emilia Marie Winiarski, Bill and Win moved to Kingsport and Tennessee Eastman in 1942. After a long career in the purchasing department, he retired from Tennessee Eastman as Vice President of Supply and Distribution in January 1981.

Bill was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and the National Purchasing Agents Association, where he served in several capacities at the national level.

He was also an active member of St. Dominic's Parish.

He was an avid golfer and his yard and flower gardens were his favorite hobby.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Josephine Harrison; and his son, Fred Joseph Harrison.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Emilia; two daughters and son-in-laws, Christine (Harrison) and Kenneth J. Dwyer II of Orlando, Fla., and Margaret (Harrison) and Kenneth R. Wolfe of Villa Hills, Ky.; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Harrison, of Knoxville; and three grandsons, Patrick William Harrison and Andrew Brendan Harrison, both of Knoxville, and Benjamin Wyatt Harrison Wolfe of Villa Hills, Ky.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hamlett Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.

A Christian wake prayer service will follow at 8 p.m.

Friends are welcome to visit the family at home as well.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Dominic's Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be at 12 noon in the family plot at Edgewood cemetery in Knoxville on Thursday.

The family would like to thank TLC Home Care Services, especially Louise Vaughn, Jamie Gilliam, Clayton and Eulala Arnold, Phoebe Kerns, Ethel Bowlin, Joan McLain, Stacey Stokes, and Emily DeFord, Drs. Eric Schwartz, Jeff Vaughan and Rick Dickson, the fifth floor nursing and support staff and the Respiratory Therapy staff at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital as well as Wellmont Home Health Care and Quality Care Ambulance Service for all their care and support over the years of Bill's illness.

Graveside services for Ernest Marshall "Ernie" Hill, 54, formerly of Kingsport, who passed away Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Pactolus United Methodist Church.

Pallbearers will be Teddy Cavores, Bill White, Larry Franklin, Red Lawson, Mike Lawson and Ron Warrick.

Cora Knox, 80, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Graveside services for Cora Louise Knox, 80, who passed away Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at the Kincaid Cemetery.

Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville, is in charge of arrangements.

Nell Rose Long, 75, Church Hill.
Graveside services for Nell Rose Long, 75, Church Hill, who passed away Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2004), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at McPheeters Bend Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jerry Higgins, Fred Arnold Jr., Jackie Long, Jeff Gray, Kelly Nelson, Jody Stewart, Brandon Taylor and Chad Stewart.

Nelson Michael McCoy, 18, Blountville.
Funeral mass for Nelson Michael McCoy, 18, who passed away Wednesday (Nov. 24, 2004), will be conducted at St. Dominic's Catholic Church at 4 p.m. today. The celebrant will be the Rev. Charles Burton.

At the family's request, Nelson will be cremated.

Karl David Morgan, 44, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Karl David Morgan, 44, of Kingsport, passed away Friday (Nov. 26, 2004) as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Karl was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., and had been a resident of Kingsport since 1981. He was employed as a mechanic with Joy Mining and Machinery.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Morgan in 2000.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy L. Morgan; two sons, Kyle Morgan and Kory Morgan, all of the home; his mother, Marion Morgan of Lake Worth, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly Massung and husband John of Sebastian, Fla.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth Morgan and wife Peggy, and Kurt Morgan and wife Nancy, all of Trafford, Pa.; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Jean Styles of Church Hill; two nieces, Elaine Massung and Stacie Morgan; a nephew, Nathan Morgan; and several aunts and uncles.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill cemetery with the Rev. Greg Street officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Ken Bowling, Colin Green, Ron Balthis, Ken Flanary, Greg Vicars and Jeff Colley.

Willie Ethel Pendleton, 87, Ft. Blackmore, Va.
FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Graveside services for Willie Ethel "Curt" Pendleton, 87, who entered into rest Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Lawson Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore. The family will meet at 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery for graveside services.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Gate City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Godsey Perkins, 80, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Betty Godsey Perkins, 80, Johnson City and formerly of Knoxville, went to the waiting arms of her husband, "Perk" on Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004).

Betty's love and commitment to her church service included more than 20 years with Lebanon Baptist Church, Lebanon, Va., and in recent years at Bridgewater Baptist Church in Knoxville. She was an active member of W.M.V. and numerous committees in the churches she loved.

She retired in 1990 as proprietor of "Perk's Market in Maryville, Tenn.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Bedford "Perk" Perkins; and her aunt, Josephine Colman.

Surviving are her son, James Hunter Perkins and wife, Sharon, Kingsport; daughter, Melissa Perkins VanDyke and husband, Reese VanDyke; three grandchildren, Amber, Hunter, and Heather VanDyke, Knoxville; daughter, Mardell Larcen and husband, Ron, and her granddaughter, Amy Buckner, all of San Francisco, Calif.

Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
