Willie Ethel Pendleton, 87, Ft. Blackmore, Va.
FT. BLACKMORE, Va. - Willie Ethel "Curt" Pendleton, 87, entered into rest Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004) at Brookhaven Manor Nursing Home.

She was born Dec. 20, 1916 to the late Willie Pendleton and Tempa Elizabeth Pendleton Lane.

Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Gracie Sawyer.

Survivors include two brothers, B.C. Lane and H. Rhea Lawson; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel with Rev. Walker Darnell and Rev. James Mann officiating.

Music will be by the Toke Hensley Singers.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Lawson Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, Va. The family will meet at 10:45 a.m. at the cemetery for graveside services.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Danny Carrol Pennington, 53, Church Hill.
A memorial service for Danny Carrol Pennington, 53, of 505 Short St., Church Hill, who passed away Monday (Nov. 22, 2004), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Church Hill, with the Rev. Gale Flanary officiating.

Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. today at the funeral home.

Betty Godsey Perkins, 80, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Betty Godsey Perkins, 80, Johnson City and formerly of Knoxville, went to the waiting arms of her husband, "Perk" on Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004).

Betty's love and commitment to her church service included more than 20 years with Lebanon Baptist Church, Lebanon, Va. and in recent years at Bridgewater Baptist Church in Knoxville. She was an active member of W.M.V. and numerous committees in the churches she loved.

She retired in 1990 as proprietor of "Perk's Market in Maryville, Tenn.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Bedford "Perk" Perkins, and her aunt, Josephine Colman.

Surviving are her son, James Hunter Perkins and wife, Sharon, Kingsport; daughter, Melissa Perkins VanDyke and husband, Reese VanDyke; three grandchildren, Amber, Hunter, and Heather VanDyke, Knoxville; daughter, Mardell Larcen and husband, Ron and her granddaughter, Amy Buckner, all of San Francisco, Calif.

Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at First Christian Church in Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the church.

Rev. Morris L. Porter, 77, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Services for Rev. Morris L. Porter, 77, who went to be with Jesus on Tuesday (Nov. 23, 2004), will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tony Marshall officiating.

Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Holston View cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Charles Dewitt Byrd Post #3382 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Julie M. Robbins,
Julie M. Robbins was born in Whitesburg, Ky. on Saturday, March 31, 1928 and passed away early Friday morning at Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn.. at the age of 76 years.

She lived in Lee County about 17 years and was a member of the Meadowfork Baptist Church, Rt. 1 Keokee, Va.

She was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Susan White; and one son, Johnny Dale White.

Julie is survived by her husband, Carl Robbins, of the home; three daughters, Linda Rix of Astor, Fla., Marie Boham of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., Lisa Murphy of Holypond, Ala.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Bobby White of Corbin, Ky. and Bill White of Mount Clemens, Mich.; five sisters, Ardell Hicks of Marion, Ohio, Evelyn Winstead of Benton, Ky. Eilien Ringrose of Ashland, Ky., Norma Comb of Nashville, Tenn. and Sue Carroll Gray of Corbin, Ky.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Province Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fleenor Town Baptist Church, Jonesville, Va. with Rev. Aaron Stapleton officiating.

Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Va.

Frank Afton Roller, 76, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Frank Afton Roller, 76, died at 2:20 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004) surrounded by his family at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center Valley Medical Center.

He was a very devoted and loving husband of his wife Ruth for 52 years who died March 16, 2004. He was also a very loving father.

Mr. Roller was employed as a truck driver by Mason Dixon Lines Inc. for 32 years.

Frank was a member of Wheeler United Methodist Church.

He enjoyed gardening, working in his flowers and bird watching.

He is preceded in death by his wife Ruth Bolton Roller and his parents Virgil and Edith Roller.

Surviving are a son Marvin L. Roller, of the home; daughter and Special Son-in-law, Debbie and Don Carver, Church Hill; brother and wife, Jim and Aileen Roller, Kingsport; sisters: Mary Bowlin, Gray, and Zetta Barnes, Blountville; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gladys and Virgil Hedrick, Columbus, Ind.; sister-in-law, Joyce Bolton, Columbus, Ind.; several nieces and nephews and two special little buddies, Montie and Sadie.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Stuart Albee and Dr. Roy Lester officiating.

Graveside services will conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.

Ollie V. Smith, 85, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Ollie V. (Garrison) Smith, 85, passed away Thursday (Nov. 25, 2004) at her home.

She was born in Lee County, Va., resided in Appalachia, Va. for most of her life and had lived in Big Stone Gap for the past two years. She was of Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd C. Smith; two grandsons, Joseph Clay Brooks and Michael Charles Brooks; and a son-in-law, David Brooks.

Surviving are two daughters, Arlee Burton and Carolyn Brooks, both of Big Stone Gap; four grandchildren, Tammy Dillon and Jaclyn Brooks, both of Big Stone Gap, Lelia Baylor of Clinton, Tenn. and Patrick Burton of East Stone Gap, Va.; one brother, Clyde Garrison of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap. Va.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Lonnie Brooks officiating.

Committal services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Glencoe Cemetery, Big Stone Gap. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.

Robert M. Sneed, 69, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Robert M. Sneed, 69, 1817 Oakwood Drive, went to be with the Lord Thursday (Nov. 26, 2004) at his home.

He was a lifelong resident of Kingsport and a graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School. Robert served in the U. S. Air Force.

His father, T. M. Sneed, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his mother, Alice E. Sneed, Kingsport; a brother, Larry W. Sneed; and one nephew.

Arrangements will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Bertha Swafford, 92, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Mrs. Bertha Swafford, 92, departed this life Thursday (Nov. 25) at Sunbridge Care Rehab (Hillside).

Arrangements are incomplete. Mrs. Swafford and family are in the care of Robinson Funeral Services.

Margaret Trent, 69, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Margaret Ozil Trent, 69, went to be with the Lord on Nov. 25, 2004 at 10:40 p.m. at her home after a long illness.

She was a member of Friendly View Missionary Baptist Church and sang with the Right Way Quartet for several years.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Jackie and Ramond Davis; father, Henry S. Reed; mother, Ada R. Reed-Marshall; sister, Ellen Reed-Lawson; brothers, Clay H. Reed, Rev. Morrison Reed; and one grandchild, Arnold James.

Surviving are her husband, Herbert H. Trent; sons, Lloyd Davis of Whitesburg, Randy, Johnny and Terry Davis, all of Rogersville; daughters, Mary Helton, Judy Willis of Rogersville and Joyce Carpenter of Whitesburg; 13 granchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brother, John H. Reed of Whitesburg; sisters, Lucille Lawson of Columbus, Ohio and Bonnie Frost-Light of Rogersville.

Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Friendly View Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Wolfe and the Rev. R.L. Warren officiating.

Interment will be at the Friendly View Cemetery.

Buford Ball, 62, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Buford Ball, 62, Kingsport, who passed away Monday (Jan. 31, 2005), will be conducted at 12 noon today at Oak Hill Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 11:45 a.m.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is in charge.

A. Fred Blevins, 68, Bluff City.
BLUFF CITY - Fred Blevins, 68, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (Feb. 2, 2005) at the VA Hospital in Asheville, N.C.

A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Gleason and Edith Durham Blevins. He was a graduate of Bluff City High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Mapes of Elizabethton, was a member of Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed playing Bluegrass music.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis Blevins; and a daughter, Donna Blevins.

Survivors include his wife, Norma S. Blevins of Bluff City; sons, Mark Blevins and his wife Lona of Bluff City and Randy Blevins and his wife Michele of Kingsport; brother, Ted Blevins and his wife Louise of Piney Flats; granddaughter, Lauren Blevins; grandsons, Jayme Blevins, Landon Blake Blevins and Gavin Blevins; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:45 p.m. today at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.

Services will follow at 8 p.m. today in the Paul Cook Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Stephen Hensley officiating.

The committal service and interment will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Chinquapin Grove cemetery in Bluff City.

Pallbearers will be Mark Blevins, Randy Blevins, Jayme Blevins, John Blevins, Doug Lewis and Greg Glover.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Deitrick, Wade Ballard, Harmon Glover, Phil Nave, Carl Lyon, Scott Greene, Hunter Berry and fellow Bluegrass musicians.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to Chinquapin Grove Baptist Church Youth Center, 1489 Walnut Grove Road, Bluff City, Tenn. 37618.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to his Bluegrass musician friends.

Edmond Bowling, 83, Weber City, Va.
Entombment services for Edmond Bowling, 83, Weber City, Va., who passed away Tuesday (Feb. 1, 2005), will take place at 11 a.m. today at Oak Hill Mausoleum.

Pallbearers will be Mark Blanton, Corey Blanton, Jamie Blanton, Roger Howe, Lawrence Carter and Doug Humphreys.

Honorary pallbearers are Orbin Alley, George Carter and Fred Lane.

Carter-Trent/Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Bowling family.

Louise Boyer, 93, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Louise Ford Boyer, 93, 2018 Sherwood Dr., Apt. 223, died Saturday (Jan. 29, 2005) at the Johnson City Medical Center.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City.

Mrs. Boyer was the daughter of the late Walter D. and Fletchie P. Ford. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Mack P. Boyer in 1995; and two brothers, William Cecil Ford and Raymond Howard Ford; and one sister, Mildred (Kate) Harmon.

A sister-in-law, Ruth Pierce, Ivy Hall, Elizabethton; cousins, Sara Cunningham and husband David, Memphis, Josie Lee Reilly, Kingsport, and Margaret Goodhue and husband Dave, Montrose, Colo., survive her. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Jane Gray Collier and husband, Dr. Dwayne Collier, Rome, Ga., Lake K. Boyer Jr. and wife Connie, Atlanta, Ga., Dr. James Reuben Pierce, Elizabethton, Sandra Satterfield, Rockville, Md., and David Pierce, Kingsport.

Mrs. Boyer was a graduate of Science Hill High School and attended ETSU. She also completed several correspondence courses in banking. At the time of her retirement from First Peoples Bank, she was an assistant vice president. She was very active in community service during the 26 years that she worked at the bank.

Mrs. Boyer was a very giving person and during her 80-year membership at Central Baptist Church was active in the Dorcus class and in missionary work. She also taught Sunday School.

She was a 50-year member of Federation of Women's Clubs and the Monday Club.

She was a past board member of the Sister Cities, National Association of Bank Women, Tipton Haynes Historical Farm, and served on the originating board of the Carroll Reece Museum. Mrs. Boyer was also a charter member of Shady Oaks Garden Club and Garden Lovers Club.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Monte Vista Memorial Park.

The graveside service will be officiated by Rev. R. Willard Warfield and Dr. Ron Murray. Family and friends are to assemble at the funeral home at 10:40 a.m. and proceed to the cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Dr. Douglas Crockett, A.R. McCart, George Bill Smith, Ambers Wilson, Joe Wallen and John Squibb.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Horace Cupp, Dr. Stanley Vermillion, Dr. Jack Williams, Dr. R.A. Calandruccio, William Hensley, Brooks Sossomon, S. Richard Jennings, Richard Lewis, C.H. Robbins Jr., C.E. Parker, Bill Bays, Coolidge Johnson, Dr. Charles Wofford, and Frederick Brandt.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice, with the notice to be sent to Mrs. Jane Gray Collier, Six Oakmont Dr. SW, Rome, Ga. 30161-9593.
