Della Anderson, 83, Nickelsville, Va.
NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Della Mae White Anderson, 83, Route 2, went to be with the Lord late Friday afternoon (Jan. 28, 2005) at Ridgecrest Manor in Duffield.

Survivors and funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Scott-County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Willie Bailey, 101, Surgoinsville.
SURGOINSVILLE - Willie Ettna Christian Bailey, 101, went home to be with her Lord Thursday night (Jan. 27, 2005) at Bristol Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a very active member of the First Freewill Baptist Church of Surgoinsville where she was involved with the ladies auxiliary. Her pride and joy was her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Willie Bailey was preceded in death by her first husband, Samuel P. Bailey; her second husband, Homer Bailey; a daughter, Ruth Hensley; two grandchildren, Sammy Shortt and Teresa Favara; a great-grandchild, Jennifer Favara; along with five brothers.

Willie Bailey is survived by her three daughters, Margaret Artis and her husband, Nelson, Oak Ridge, Tenn., Odell Shortt and her husband, Zeb, Abingdon, Va., and Lois Britton, Cumberland City, Tenn.; three sons, Colvin Bailey, Clarksville, Tenn., Elwood Bailey and his wife Dorothy, Surgoinsville, Clinton Bailey and his wife, Emily, Abingdon, Va.; 12 granchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a great-niece, Tootie Henry, Surgoinsville; her close friends, Ada Greer and Ada Wilson, both of Surgoinsville; along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Sunday at First Freewill Baptist Church of Surgoinsville or friends may also call anytime at the residence of the son, Elwood Bailey, 405 Williams Road, Surgoinsville.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church with Pastor Jessee Hartgrove officiating.

Burial will follow the funeral at First United Methodist Church cemetery in Surgoinsville.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

Justin A. Boggs, 21, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Justin A. Boggs, 21, passed away Friday (Jan. 28, 2005) of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Gate City Funeral Home.

Blanche Boyd, 79, Mount Carmel.
MOUNT CARMEL - Anna Blanche Trent Boyd, 79, went home to be with Jesus Wednesday morning (Jan. 26, 2005) at Brookhaven Manor following an extended illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a charter member of the Church Hill Lifesaving Crewettes. Mrs. Boyd was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church in Mount Carmel where she was in the ladies auxiliary.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved to work in her flowers, loved going to church and always trusted Jesus in all things.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tom Boyd; her parents, Charlie and Bobbie Albright Trent; her daughter-in-law, Betty Cook Boyd; two sisters, Edna Jones and Effie Fields; three brothers, Paul Trent, Keith Trent and Roy Trent Sr.

Mrs. Blanche Boyd is survived by her loving husband that would have been 60 years on March 17 this year, George T. Boyd; her daughter, Sherry Allen and her husband, Steve, Kingsport; a son, Dan Boyd, North Augusta, S.C.; a daughter-in-law, Sandra Boyd, Mount Carmel; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and close friend, Jean Stapleton, North Augusta, S.C.; along with several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon today at Oak Hill Cemetery. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 11:50 a.m.

Preston A. Carter, Lawrenceville, Ga.
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Preston A. Carter, formerly of 442 Lakeside Drive in Kingsport, went to be with his Lord Thursday (Jan. 27, 2005), in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Preston was born in Columbia, S.C. on April 17, 1920 and was a son of the late Hayne Cotesworth Carter and Nancy Perstella Dennis Carter.

He graduated from Columbia High School. He was president, CEO and part owner of the Old Dominion Bandag, Inc., in Appalachia, Va.

Preston was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Ashmore Carter.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynn C. Owen and husband, Rick Owen, Del C. Harris and husband, David Harris, and Fran C. Coyle and husband, Dan Coyle; grandchildren, Meredith Firestone and husband, Kevin Firestone, Claire Harris, Daniel Harris, Carter Coyle and Daniel Coyle; great-granddaughter, Leila Firestone.

Calling hours will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be at 12 noon Monday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ron Davis and Rev. Mitch Whisnant officiating.

Graveside service will follow in the East Lawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Nannie Ethel Cole, 86, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Nannie Ethel Cole, 86, died Friday morning (Jan. 28, 2005) at her home after an extended illness.

A lifelong resident of Sullivan County, Mrs. Cole had worked in the Sullivan County School System for many years before retiring in 1982. She was a Baptist.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert S. Cole; parents, Bill and Rose Short; and brothers, Floyd Short and Robert Short.

Surviving are two sons, William "Buddy" Cole and J.D. Cole, both of Kingsport; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann Peterson, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport or at the homes of her sons at 1516 Fuller St., or 925 Fairview Avenue.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Richard K. Dice officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at East Lawn Memorial Park. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Monday to go in procession.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Don "Cookie" Cook, 64, Kingsport.
Services for Donald P. "Cookie" Cook, 64, Kingsport, who went to sleep at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005) will be held today at 7 p.m. in the chapel at East Lawn Funeral Home with Minister Edward McCamey officiating.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other hours at the residence.

Burial will follow graveside services at 1 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 VFW.

Pallbearers will be Jason Greene, Steve Maxwell, K.M. Swann, Trinity Mitchell, Phillip Tomlinson and Darryl Cook.

Birdie Delph, 87, Knoxville.
KNOXVILLE - Birdie Mae Bean Delph, 87, formerly of

Rogersville, died Friday (Jan. 28, 2005) at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center, Knoxville following an extended illness.

She was a member of Heavenly View Baptist Church.

Mrs. Delph was preceded in death by her first husband, Alvin Bean; son, Jack Bean; parents, Grover and Texas Jane Reed Helton; three brothers, Clarence Helton, Dee Helton, and Leonard Helton; three sisters, Vicky Johnson, Roxie Linkous, and Nancy Russell.

She is survived by her husband, Harvey Roscoe Delph, of the home; one son, Joe Bean and wife, Ruth of Knoxville; one grandson, Steve Bean and wife, Susan of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Hallie Gilliam; brother, East Helton both of Rogersville; several step-children, step-grandchildren; and step great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Randy Carver, Rev. Charles Parker and Rev. Bill Kirkland officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Bean Cemetery.

Earl H. Gatewood Jr., 59, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Earl H. Gatewood, Jr., 59, passed away Friday morning (Jan. 28, 2005) at his home following an extended illness.

Earl was born in Surgoinsville and had resided throughout the United States. He worked in the computer field retiring from Hewlett-Packard in 2003 after 25 years service. Earl was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force having served for more than 91/2 years.

Calling hours are from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor J.W. Depew officiating.

Robert (Bob) Gibson, 61, Norton, Va.
NORTON, Va. - Robert R. (Bob) Gibson, 61, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005) at Norton Community Hospital, Norton, Va.

He was a retired employee of the Coalfield Progress, a volunteer at the Norton Community Hospital and was of the Protestant faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Nyoka Gibson; his mother, Sadie Perry Gibson; and a brother, Hubert Gibson.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Mitchell and her husband, Mike of Columbus, Ohio and Bobbie Buck and her husband, Kevin of Rockbridge, Ohio; his father, Fred Gibson of Tacoma, Va.; three grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur Gibson and his wife Jean of Tacoma, Va., Raymond Gibson and his wife, Barbara of Coeburn, Va., and Kenneth Gibson of Norton, Va.; two sisters, Ruth Hensley of Norton, Va. and Gracie G. Hensley and her husband Maurice of Norton, Va.; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home, Coeburn, Va.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joe Dearry officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton, Va. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.

Christene Hartley, 68, Eidson, Tenn.
EIDSON - Christine Hartley, 68, passed away Friday morning (Jan. 28, 2005), at Wellmont Hawkins County Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.

She was saved at an early age and was a member of Grassy Springs Missionary Baptist Church. She was a very loving mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, G.W. Hartley; parents, Luther and Zora Hicks; two brothers, Bert Hicks and Jay Hicks; and niece, Lisa Hicks.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Bernice Hartley of Eidson; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Lowell Brewer of Sneedville and Tracie and Fred Kammer of Eidson; grandchildren, Donna Mowell, Stacy Ferrell, Sherry Webb, Christina Kammer and Freddy Kammer; great-grandchildren, Brittni and Shay Mowell and Tanner Ferrell; special boy who was like her grandson, Cody Albright; brothers, Ben Hicks of Sneedville, Fayne Hicks and Wayne Hicks both of Morristown; two sisters, Jean Manis of Morristown and Lena Drinnon of Eidson; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Colboch-Price Funeral Home in Rogersville. Friends may also call anytime at the residence of Tracie and Fred Kammer.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jack Free officiating.

Interment will follow in the Markham Cemetery.

Vesta Hall Holt, 89, Blountville.
BLOUNTVILLE - Vesta (Toots) Hall Holt, 89, went to be with the Lord on Thursday (Jan. 27, 2005) after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Holt, born Aug. 21, 1915, was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and the daughter of the late Wiley Robert and Della Beard Hall. She was happily married for 55 years to her loving late husband, John Roy Holt. She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Deborah Diane Holt; a sister, Anna Lee Hall Sanders; and two brothers, Herman and Emmett Hall.

Mrs. Holt was a homemaker, a 50-year member of the Gunnings Home Demonstration Club, a member of the Blountville OES 419 Chapter of the Eastern Star and an active member in her community in earlier years.

She was a lifelong member of the Blountville Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Women of the Church and Circle 3. Mrs. Holt was a loving mother and will be sorely missed by her family.

Surviving are a son, Harold and daughter-in-law Barbara Holt of Kingsport and two daughters, Doris and son-in-law, Bill Hicks of Blountville and Carolyn and son-in-law, Bill Solmon of LaFayette, Ga.; six grandchildren, John Solmon of Cleveland, Ga., Karen Holt of Chicago, Rick Solmon of Chickamauga, Ga., Tonya Holt Guest of Rock Hill, S.C., Cindy Solmon Roberts of Atlanta, Doug Hicks of Piney Flats; five great-grandchildren, Jack and Bo Solmon, Carson and Camryn Guest and Holt Roberts; a step-grandson, Brian Hicks; one nephew, Bob Sanders; one niece, Tike Holden and special friend, Margie Hicks.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the East Lawn Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Blountville Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Everett officiating.

Graveside services to follow at the East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bob Sanders, Mark Sanders, Carl Grubbs, Cliff McKinney, Bob O'Dell and Dick Cartwright.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Lucas, Richard Millhorn, Ralph Massey, Charles Long and Vincent Baker.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Brookhaven Manor for their loving care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blountville Presbyterian Church.

Llewellyn "Ludy" Hults, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Services for Llewellyn Marie "Ludy" Hults, who passed away Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Smith and the Rev. Crystal Salyers officiating. Eastern Star services will be conducted by the Liberty Chapter 198 of the Order of Eastern Star.

Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m. today at the church.

Interment will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Riverview Memorial Park in Ft. Pierce, Fla.

Memorial donations may be made to Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6027, Kingsport, Tenn. 37663.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Hults.
