Martha Hunt, 82, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Martha Helen Morrow Hunt, 82, Kingsport, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 12, 2005).
She was born July 15, 1922 at Ware Shoals, S.C., the daughter of the late M.B. and Elizabeth Morrow, and moved to Sumter, S.C., in 1937. She graduated from Edmunds High School in 1940 and attended Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C., graduating in 1944.
In the fall of 1944, Martha went to work for Eastman Kodak Company in Oak Ridge, where she met her husband, Raymond Hunt. They were married
May 1, 1946 and moved to Kingsport where Raymond continued to work at Eastman Kodak.
Mrs. Hunt spent many years involved in volunteer work including the Kingsport Theater Guild, Women's Symphony Committee, Holston Valley Women's Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and Exchange Place.
She was a member of Preston Hills Presbyterian Church where she served as Circle Chairman, Sunday School teacher and an elder.
Her parents, and a son, Thomas Edward Hunt, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her husband, Raymond Hunt; a daughter, Judy Ann Hunt; a grandson, Ben Hunt and wife, Alison; a granddaughter, Mary Beth Morris and husband, Duane; a brother, Ralph Morrow, Sumter, S.C.; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Dan Albergotti, Florence, S.C.; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Bobby and Beverly Morrow, Gaffney, S.C.; five nieces and three nephews.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 30, 2005) at Preston Hills Presbyterian Church with Dr. Earle Barron officiating.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service at the church.

Thelma Jean Kegley, Woodway, Va.
WOODWAY, Va. - Thelma Jean Kegley, 69, was born in St. Charles, Va. on Thursday, Jan. 31, 1935 and passed away at her home in Woodway, Va. on Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005).
She had been a resident of Baltimore, Md. for 40 years and returned to Lee County, Va. in 1993. Thelma was a homemaker and worked in a school cafeteria in Maryland. She was of the Baptist Faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Jimmy Douglas Kegley who passed away July 20, 2003; one son, Stephen Douglas Kegley; parents, Claude Ballard Carroll, Sr. and Virgie Haynes Carroll; two brothers, Claude Carroll, Jr. & Glen Carroll.
Thelma is survived by her two sons, Roger Keith Kegley and David Wayne Kegley, both of Baltimore, Md.; two grandsons, David Kegley Jr. and Josh Kegley, both of Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Frank Carroll of Jonesville, Va.; two sisters, Ada Millsap of St. Charles, Va. and Lucille Mays and husband, General of Richmond, Ind.; one sister-in-law, Phyllis Isom and husband, Al of Pennington Gap, Va.; two brothers-in-law, Gerald Kegley and wife, Rama of Baltimore, Md. and Wayne Kegley of Harriman, Tenn.; also several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lee Memorial Gardens in Woodway, Va.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. for the service.

William Ray McConnell, 81, Jonesville, Va.
JONESVILLE - William Ray McConnell, 81, passed away Thursday (Jan. 27, 2005) at Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Va.
A lifelong resident of Lee County, he was a veteran of World War II, serving the U.S. Army as a medic on a medical hospital ship. He was retired from Powell Valley Electric Co. after 37 years of service and a member of York United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fitzhugh Lee and Flossie Poteet McConnell; three brothers, Ralph, Muncy and Lee Harmon McConnell; and two sisters, Celia Byington and Hallene Ramey.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruby Etta Graham McConnell of Jonesville, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Ray and Ileane Burke McConnell of Kingsport, Thomas Michael and Sandy Foster McConnell of Jonesville, Va.; one granddaughter, April McConnell Carpenter and husband, Sean David Carpenter of Bristol, Tenn.; two grandsons, Steven Ray McConnell of Alsenborn, Germany and Austin Lee McConnell of Knoxville; great-grandchildren, Noah David, Jonah Gray, and Celesta Claire Carpenter, all of Bristol, Tenn.; one sister, Nila Osborne of Clinton, Tenn.

GRAY - Dennis Fred Oerly, 55, passed away Thursday (Jan. 27 2005) after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born July 28, 1949 in Boonville, Mo., and was the son of Oscar "Fred" Oerly and the late Zula Magenta "Jan" Oerly.
Dennis worked for more than 30 years in hospital marketing and planning. He worked for the Baptist Hospital System in Little Rock, Ark., High Point Regional Hospital in High Point, N.C., Mountain States Health Alliance in Johnson City and most recently for Blue Ridge Healthcare in Morganton, N.C.
He loved the great outdoors. He was an avid duck and turkey hunter and loved to fish Missouri farm ponds for largemouth bass. Dennis will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, quick wit, and his love of all people.
Surviving are his loving wife of 31 years, Karen Oerly, Gray; three sons, Samuel Lee Oerly, Johnson City, Matthew Bay Oerly, San Diego, Calif., Wes Fredrick Oerly, Gray; one granddaughter, Casey Marie Oerly, Gray; along with many other family members and friends to mourn his passing.

COEBURN, Va. - Lorena Owens, 93, died Thursday (Jan. 27, 2005) at her home in Dwina.
She was born in Wise County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Belle Stallard Kirk. She was a charter member of Mary Martin Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Owens; a granddaughter, Theresa O. Collins; two sisters, Cora Schell and Lena Kirsh; four brothers, Lamar Kirk, Robley Kirk, Edd Kirk, and Howard Kirk.
She is survived by two daughters, Joan Kennedy and husband, Ernest "Shy" of Castlewood, Va., and Linda Domby and husband, Roger of Asheville, N.C.; one son, James S. Owens and wife, Trula of Coeburn, Va.; one sister, Esther Pate of Abingdon, Va.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two greatgreat-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood, Va.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mary Martin Presbyterian Church, Coeburn, Va., with Pastor Bill Parish officiating.

ROGERSVILLE - Nora Marcum Parrott, 76, of 529 Maple Lane, went home to be with the Lord of Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005) at her residence.
Mrs. Parrott was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and a member of East Rogersville Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hasson Chapter No. 179. Most of her life she was a homemaker and devoted mother.
Mrs. Parrott was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Rev. John R. Parrott, Sr.; her parents, William and Maude Manis Marcum; two brothers, Delbert and George Marcum; one sister-in-law, Cora Wallen Marcum; two sisters, Mendie Marcum Mayes and Nettie Marcum Winstead; and one brother-in-law, Dan Parrott.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Larry R. Parrott and wife, Jeanie, of Talbott, Tenn., and Rev. John R. Bill F. Phillips, 70, Nickelsville, Va.
NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Bill F. Phillips, 70, went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening (Jan. 26, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle with emphysema.
A native of Scott County, Va., he had lived most of his life in Kingsport. He was born Dec. 22, 1934 and was the son of the late Evan and Lou Arnold Phillips.
He retired from Mason-Dixon Tank Lines and Massey's Cleaners. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Phillips; sister, Georgia Whitmore and an infant sister, Mae Phillips.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Clara Myrl Smith Phillips, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam Phillips and wife Delores of Kingsport and Gary Phillips and wife Diane of Church Hill; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Darter and husband Doug of Yuma, Va., Lisa Fincannon and husband David of Chicago, Ill., Angie Taylor and husband Mike, of the home and Becky Quillen and husband Craig of Fall Branch; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; six sisters and one brother-in-law, Faye Sloan, Lorene Salley, Dorothy Crockett, Wilma Phillips, Jean Sloan and Mary Price and husband Wendell, all of Kingsport; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and many friends are left to mourn his passing.

KINGSPORT - Marvin K. Rhoton, 93, went peacefully to sleep in the arms of Jesus Thursday (Jan. 27, 2005).
He was born in Scott County on May 24, 1911 to the late William (Bill) and Rebecca Bishop Rhoton.
Marvin was retired from Bays Mountain Construction Company in Kingsport in 1975. He was a farmer by heart and made his families living from the soil of the lands during his early married
life. He was a member of Clinchport Masonic Lodge No. 267 A.F and A.M. for 54 years.
He professed faith in Christ many years ago. He was a member and served as a deacon of Walnut Chapel Church for several years. He attended church as long as his health permitted.
Including his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virgie Clendenin Rhoton; daughter, Laura Kate Rhoton; son, Ulyes Rhoton; granddaughter, Connie Sue Rhoton; grandson, Tony Michael Rhoton; sisters, Emily Tomlinson and Amanda Rhoton; brothers, Mesby, Millard and Clarence Rhoton.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Charlotte Rhoton, Clinchport, Va.; daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy and Edward Qualls, Clinchport, Va., Rebecca Jones, Kingsport, Darlene and Donald Castle, Kingsport; granddaughters and husbands, Peggy and Forrest Giles, Barbara and Johnny Baker; grandsons and wives, Donnie and Susan, David and Karen, Danny and Cathy Qualls, Shannon and Lora Castle and Michael Rhoton; step-grandsons, Jessee and Dewayne Montgomery; great-granddaughters, Amy Giles, Amanda (Barry) Wolfe and Adrian Qualls; great-grandsons, Mark Giles, Joe, Adam and Wesley Qualls, Jason and Josh (Tabby) France; step-grandson, T.J.
