Carson Rollins, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Carson David Rollins infant son of Jerry and Amy Rollins passed away early Friday morning (Jan. 28, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, David Rollins.

Additional survivors include his maternal grandmother, Karen Brown; maternal grandfather, Sonny Brown; paternal grandmother, Pennie Rollins; paternal great-grandmother, Evelyn Rollins, all of Kingsport; paternal great-grandfather, Floyd Brown and wife Hilda, Jonesborough; aunt and uncle, Ginger and T.J. Fugate, Kingsport.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill cemetery with Pastor Jerry Musick and Pastor Boyd Holder officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are ask to meet at the cemetery at 1:55 p.m.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport is in charge of arrangements.

Sam Rowland, 70, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Sam Rowland, 70, 210 E. Chilhowie Ave., died Thursday (Jan. 27, 2005) at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Mr. Rowland was a native of the Cane River community of Yancey County, N.C., but lived most of his life in Johnson City. He was a son of the late George Welon Rowland and Ruby Randolph Rowland Clark.

Mr. Rowland was a retired salesman and a jack of all trades. He attended Central Baptist Church and the William Rigell Sunday School Class.

Mr. Rowland loved the outdoors.

Survivors include one son, Mike Rowland, and fiancé, Renee Reed, Kingsport; two daughters, Kathy Cox, and husband, Darrell, Gray, and Joy Rowland, Atlanta, Ga.; the love of his life, Betty Martin, of the home; three grandsons, Aaron Cox, Milligan College, Naaman Cox, Gray, and Matthew Rowland, and wife, Brandie, Jonesborough; one sister, Alma Jean Curd-Brown, and husband, Bob, Erwin; one brother, Ed Rowland, and wife, Linda, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; six nieces and one nephew; two aunts, Della Randolph, Columbia, S.C., and Jessie Lea Wine, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; one uncle, Lot Randolph, Mars Hill, N.C.; and several cousins.

The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. William Kincaid and his nursing staff, and the nursing staff of Johnson City Medical Center 5200 wing.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday in the East Parlor of Appalachian Funeral Home, Johnson City.

Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in the East Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Jerry Hall and Rev. Troy Turner officiating.

The graveside committal service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Snow Memorial Church Cemetery. Those planning to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Monday to proceed to the cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be members of the William Rigell Sunday School Class of Central Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Holly, George Boy, Euell Little, Carl Little, Mark Little, S.G. Hensley and Moulton Bailey.

Those who prefer to make memorial contributions may do so to the American Cancer Society, 508 Princeton Rd. STE 102, Johnson City, Tenn. 37601.

Leota Snapp, 89, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Leota Elizabeth Snapp, 89, Kingsport, passed away Friday (Jan. 28, 2005) at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital following a brief illness.

Arrangements will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

KINGSPORT - Family and friends of David Albert Sparks, 62, Kingsport, who passed away Monday (Jan. 24, 2005), will meet at 11 a.m. today for a graveside service in the Tri Cities Memory Gardens.

Dewey Tankersley, 82, Blackwater, Va.
BLACKWATER, Va. - Dewey Tankersley, 82, passed away Thursday (Jan. 27, 2005) at Wellmont Hawkins County Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Robinette Funeral Home, Blackwater, Va.

Charles E. Turner, 79, Blountville.
BLOUNTVILLE - Graveside services for Charles Elisha Turner, 79, who went home to be with the Lord at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Garden of David in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Burial will follow graveside services.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Price, Shannon Williams, Jason Price, Jason Turner, David Luckett, Seth Necessary, Darryl Adams, Jerry Price, Bill Clifton, Lee Cooper, Sammy Turner Jr., Brian Turner and Charlie Paul Turner.

Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Cassidy United Methodist Church, 5801 Memorial Blvd., Kingsport, Tenn. 37664.

Belva Adams, 91, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Belva Pace Adams, 91, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005) at Greystone Healthcare Center, Blountville.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was born on Jan. 29, 1913 in Wooten, (Leslie County) near Hyden, Ky., and attended Hyden Grammar School through the eighth grade and Pine Mountain Boarding School in Pine Mountain, Ky., from 1931-1934.

She moved to Kingsport and worked for Tennessee Eastman Company from 1934-1942, leaving that employment to return to Kentucky to care for her mother and help with the family store due to her brothers being called to the Army.

She returned to Kingsport in 1943, and later married Mort Lee Adams and became a homemaker.

Mrs. Adams was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Kingsport.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert (Rob) and Dora Jane Pace; and her husband, Mort Lee Adams, who died Jan. 3, 1966.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Watts Adams; her sisters, Leona Morgan, Chloe Wright, and Ethel York; her brothers, Alvin Pace, Ed Pace, Elbert Pace, Fred Pace, and Ralph Pace; her half-sister, Ollie Maggard Fields; and half-brother, John Maggard.

Survivors include a son, Roy Adams and wife, Jane of Kingsport; granddaughters, Dr. Hayley Adams, Knoxville, Tabitha Sells and husband, Sean, Kingsport; great-grandson, Henry Sells; sister, Esther Bowery of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

The family extends a special thanks to the caregivers at Greystone Healthcare Center, who will remember Belva for her singing, and especially to special friends, Pat Derrick, Sue King, Betty Crawford and others for their years of love and care.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Gunnings Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.

Blanche Boyd, 79, Mount Carmel.

MOUNT CARMEL - Anna Blanche Trent Boyd, 79, went home to be with Jesus Wednesday morning (Jan. 26, 2005) at Brookhaven Manor following an extended illness.

She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and was a charter member of the Church Hill Lifesaving Crewettes. Mrs. Boyd was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church in Mount Carmel where she was in the ladies auxiliary.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who loved to work in her flowers, loved going to church and always trusted Jesus in all things.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tom Boyd; her parents, Charlie and Bobbie Albright Trent; her daughter-in-law, Betty Cook Boyd; two sisters, Edna Jones and Effie Fields; three brothers, Paul Trent, Keith Trent and Roy Trent Sr.

Mrs. Blanche Boyd is survived by her loving husband that would have been 60 years on March 17 this year, George T. Boyd; her daughter, Sherry Allen and her husband, Steve, Kingsport; a son, Dan Boyd, North Augusta, S.C.; Sandra Boyd, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and close friend, Jean Stapleton, North Augusta, S.C.; along with several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill or friends may also call anytime at the residence, 409 Jefferson Ave., Mount Carmel.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Moody officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 11:50 a.m.

Berl Wayne Collins, 60, Rose Hill, Va.
ROSE HILL, Va. - Berl Wayne Collins, 60, passed away at Baptist Hospital in Knoxville on Tuesday (Jan. 25, 2005) after a six-month illness.

Born on Jan. 30, 1944, he was a lifelong resident of Lee County. He was a retired claims adjuster and spent much of his time after retirement working on his farm. He was in the U.S. Marine Corp. from 1962 to 1968 and served his country during the Vietnam War.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Evelyn Manning Collins and Earl Roosevelt Collins; and infant brother, Drewey Lynn Collins.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Patricia Rose Lambert Collins; daughter, Robin Collins of Rose Hill, Va.; son, Wesley Collins of Rose Hill, Va.; sister, Barbara Jean Collins of New Tazewell, Tenn.; brother, Rick Collins of Rose Hill, Va.; mother-in-law, Clara Lambert of Ewing, Va.; brother-in-law and wife Richard and Sandy Stephens of Keller, Tex.; five nieces, Gwen Moore of Sevierville, Steva Davidson of Tazewell, Tenn., Heather and Dawn Stephens and Shannon Otto, all of Seattle, Wash.; a special friend, Chris Howard of Delaware.

Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Van Huss Grove cemetery with the VFW Post 3382 of Kingsport in charge of graveside rites. Family and friends are to meet at 10 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the burial.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

He will be sadly missed by family, neighbors, and friends as well as the many young people who spent time at his home with his children as they grew up.

Don "Cookie" Cook, 64, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Donald P. "Cookie" Cook, 64, of Kingsport, went to sleep at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005) at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center following an extended illness.

Born in Greeneville on Oct. 29, 1940, a son of the late Verlin and Lucy Hickman Cook, he had resided in this area for the last 60 years.

He was a disabled over-the- road truck driver and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Cook was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Earley and Linda Cook.

Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Renae Overbay Cook of the home; four daughters, Deanna Cook of Urbana, Ill., Andrea "Nikki" Chase of Kingsport, Libby Cook of Kingsport, and Donna Jones and husband, Kenny of Irvine, Ky.; one son, Darryl Cook of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Samantha Stipp, Cody Shaw-Cook, Keanna Greene and Caileigh Brooks; one nephew, Phillip Tomlinson of Blountville.

Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at East Lawn Funeral Home and at other hours at the residence.

Services will follow in the funeral home chapel with Minister Edward McCamey officiating.

Burial will follow graveside services at 1 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Charles DeWitt Byrd Post #3382 VFW.

Pallbearers will be Jason Greene, Steve Maxwell, K.M. Swann, Trinity Mitchell, Phillip Tomlinson and Darryl Cook.

Fern Crockett, 89, Rose Hill, Va.
ROSE HILL, Va. - Fern Crockett, 89, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005) at Tri-State Manor in Harrogate, Tenn.

Fern was a lifelong resident of Lee County and a retired school teacher. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rose Hill, Va.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Crockett; one son, Bill Crockett; one daughter, Louise Crockett; parents, James and Louise Cawood; and one brother, Carter Cawood.

Surviving are one grandson, Eric Hoskins Crockett of Middlesboro, Ky.; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Carter Cawood; one niece, Ann Cawood.

Calling hours are from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home in Rose Hill, Va.

Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Zion and the Rev. Dale Carey officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Crockett cemetery in Rose Hill, Va.

AJ Eldridge, 42, Rose Hill, Va.
ROSE HILL, Va. - AJ Eldridge, 42, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 26. 2005) at Rose Hill, Va.

A lifelong resident of Lee County, Mr. Eldridge was a Mason and worked for Walker Masonary.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Tip and Lucy Eldridge and Elizabeth and Matthew Bledsoe.

Surviving are his father and mother, Douglas and Betty Eldridge of Ewing, Va.; two sons, Darrin and Justin Eldridge of Rose Hill, Va.; four brothers, Ronnie and wife Linda Eldridge, Jeff and Sandy Eldridge and Craig and Shondia Eldridge, all of Rose Hill, Va., and Douglas and Karen Eldridge Jr. of Ewing, Va., ; two half-brothers, Ronald Eldridge of Elydale, Va., and Randy Eldridge of Rose Hill, Va.; three sisters, Betina and Greg Ball and Sheila and Jamie Twigg, all of Ewing, Va., and Barbara and Anthony Baker of Pineville, Ky.; special friend, Stefanie Long of Rose Hill, Va.
