Clarence L. "Pete" Peters, 89, Bristol.
BRISTOL - Clarence L. "Pete" Peters, 89, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005) at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Roanoke, Va., the son of the late Ira Buford and Etta Hylton Peters. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, having served in World War II.

He retired from Greyhound Bus Lines after more than 35 years of service and was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Peters; and his sister, Estelle Layman.

Survivors include his sons, Gary Peters and his wife Debbie of Blountville and Bruce Peters and his wife Marsha of Knoxville; brother, Ira Peters and his wife Doris of Roanoke; a brother-in-law, Robert Layman of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Charles Stanley, Michael Peters and Tammy Baker; several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend whom he loved dearly, Irma Bryant of Roanoke.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home, Bristol, Tenn.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Heritage Chapel of Memories of Glenwood cemetery with the Rev. Scott Ketron officiating. Military rites will be presented by Highland Fellowship Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013.

Bill F. Phillips, 70, Nickelsville, Va.
NICKELSVILLE, Va. - Bill F. Phillips, 70, went to be with the Lord Wednesday evening (Jan. 26, 2005) at Holston Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle with emphysema.

A native of Scott County, Va., he had lived most of his life in Kingsport. He was born Dec. 22, 1934 and was the son of the late Evan and Lou Arnold Phillips.

He retired from Mason-Dixon Tank Lines and Massey's Cleaners.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Phillips; sister, Georgia Whitmore, and an infant sister, Mae Phillips.

Surviving are her loving wife of 48 years, Clara Myrl Smith Phillips, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Sam Phillips and Delores of Kingsport and Gary Phillips and wife Diane of Church Hill; four daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy Darter and husband Doug of Yuma, Va., Lisa Fincannon and husband David of Chicago, Ill., Angie Taylor and husband Mike, of the home, and Becky Quillen and husband Craig of Fall Branch; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; six sisters and one brother-in-law, Faye Sloan, Lorene Salley, Dorothy Crockett, Wilma Phillips, Jean Sloan and Mary Price and husband Wendell, all of Kingsport; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and many friends are left to mourn his passing.

Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, Va.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Robert Coffey and the Rev. Danny Sykes officiating.

Music will be provided by the Oak Glen Singers.

Burial will be in the Holston View cemetery in Weber City, Va. The American Legion Post #3/Gate City #265 will provide full military rites at the cemetery.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

John R. Ramey, 58, Castlewood, Va.
CASTLEWOOD, Va. - John R. Ramey, 58, entered into rest Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005) at his residence.

He was born in Scott County June 1, 1946 to the late Luther Ramey and Laura Edna Dockery Ramey.

Including his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Conard Ramey (infant brother).

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Angela Ramey, Hiltons; stepson, Rodney Ramey, Gate City; one special grandson, Dylan Ramey, Hiltons; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gracie and James Lane, Ft. Blackmore, Va., Katie and Denver Ingle, Castlewood, Va., and Janice and Roy Sutherland, Kingsport; brothers and sisters-in-law, Hubert Ramey, Clinchport, Va., Lonnie "Did" and Myrtle Ramey, Ft. Blackmore, Va., William "Bim" and Roma Ramey, Gate City; former wife and lifelong friend, Geneva Ramey, Gate City; several nieces, nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.

Services will be at 8 p.m. today in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Wrightly Salling officiating.

Music will be provided by Toke Hensley, Buford Salling, James "Babe" Lawson, Phillip Elliott and Michael Hensley, Danny and Debbie Owens.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lawson Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, Va. Family and friends will meet at 1:15 p.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Marvin K. Rhoton, 93, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Marvin K. Rhoton, 93, New Beason Well Road, entered into rest Thursday (Jan. 27, 2005) at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Gate City Funeral Home.

David A. Sparks, 62, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Services for David Albert Sparks, 62, of Kingsport, who passed away Monday (Jan. 24, 2005), will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Amos officiating.

Calling hours are from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Family and friends will meet at 11 a.m. Saturday for a graveside service in the Tri Cities Memory Gardens.

East Lawn Funeral Home is serving the Sparks family.

Dewey Tankersley, 82, Blackwater, Va.
BLACKWATER, Va. - Dewey Tankersley, 82, passed away Thursday (Jan. 27, 2005) at Wellmont Hawkins County Hospital.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Robinette Funeral Home, Blackwater, Va.

Charles E. Turner, 79, Blountville.
BLOUNTVILLE - Services for Charles Elisha Turner, 79, who went home to be with the Lord at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005), will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at Cassidy United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jim Jenkins and the Rev. Larry DeVault will officiate.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

Burial will follow graveside services at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Garden of David in East Lawn Memorial Park.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Price, Shannon Williams, Jason Price, Jason Turner, David Luckett, Seth Necessary, Darryl Adams, Jerry Price, Bill Clifton, Lee Cooper, Sammy Turner Jr., Brian Turner and Charlie Paul Turner.

Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Cassidy United Methodist Church, 5801 Memorial Blvd., Kingsport, Tenn. 37664.

East Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donna L. Whitehead, 55, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Graveside services for Donna Lynn Austin Whitehead, 55, of Johnson City, who passed away Wednesday (Jan. 26, 2005), will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Tri-Cities Memory Gardens, Blountville, with Minister Clinton Andrews officiating.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The staff of Oak Hill Funeral Home is serving the family of Mrs. Whitehead.

Bruce P. Bloomer Sr., 84, Church Hill.
Services for Bruce P. Bloomer Sr., 84, of Ripley Lane, Church Hill, who went home to be with the Lord late Friday afternoon (March 4, 2005), will be conducted today at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill, with the Rev. Calvin Tabor and Pastor Andy Sensabaugh officiating.

Music will be provided by the Good Neighbors Quartet.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home or friends may also call anytime at the residence, 124 Ripley Lane, Church Hill.

A military graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and the Gate City Post #265 at Ross Campground United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Darin Sensabaugh, Michael Sword, Bruce Bloomer III, Edward Lane, Daniel Bloomer and Nathaniel Bloomer.

Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. Clark, Johnny Hammonds, Jim Kelly, Bill Eachen, Jim Mullins, Guy Alley and Ray Mullins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ross Campground United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Janie Kincheloe, 930 Jackson St., Mount Carmel, TN 37645.

Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill is serving the family of Bruce P. Bloomer Sr.

Roxie Hensley Brooks, 96, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Mrs. Roxie Adeline Hensley Brooks, 96, died Friday (March 4, 2005) at the Wexford House.

Mrs. Brooks made her home with her daughter in Kingsport. She was a native of Middlesboro, Ky., and made her home in Mulberry, Ind., from the early 1940s until the late 1990s.

She was a member of Mulberry Baptist Church and had been a Sunday School teacher for several years.

She was the daughter of the late Herman and Rinda Noe Hensley and was also preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Brooks in 1972.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Owings, Kingsport; a son, David Harold Brooks, West Lafayette, Ind.; six grandchildren, Charles Brooks, Maryville, Tenn., Martha Lawson and Mary Beth Strickler, both of Kingsport, David H. Brooks II, Lafayette, Ind., Evelyn (Sissy) Brooks, Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Amanda Brooks, West Lafayette, Ind.; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday (March 13, 2005) at Kendricks Creek United Methodist Church in Kingsport with the Rev. John Hackney officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Gardens in West Lafayette, Ind., at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Kendricks Creek United Methodist Church, 1000 Kendrick Creek Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37663.

Gladys Campbell, 91, Harrogate, Tenn.
HARROGATE, Tenn. - Gladys Campbell, 91, passed away Saturday (March 5, 2005) at Tri State Health and Rehabilitation Center in Harrogate.

She taught music in the Lee County School System for 34 years. She was a member of Morgan Memorial United Methodist Church where she was organist and was also a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, James Henry Campbell; her parents, John W. and Sallie Smith Ely; three sisters and three brothers.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Lou Campbell, Rose Hill, Va.; three grandchildren, George (Scotty) and wife Fay Scott, Brandon and Alicia Dean, James Ryan Dean; three great-grandchildren, Michael, Domonique and Paige; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Bud and Lavada Fugate.

Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Memorial United Methodist Church.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the church with the Rev. Norman Clark and the Rev. Robert Charles Long officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Ely cemetery in the Sugar Run community of Jonesville, Va. Those attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the church at 10 a.m. to go to the cemetery in procession.

Arney-Mullins Funeral Home, Rose Hill, Va., is in charge of arrangements for Gladys Campbell.

Jerline Carmack, 66, Rogersville.
ROGERSVILLE - Jerline Arrington Carmack, 66, went to be with Jesus on Sunday (March 6, 2005).

She was a member of Spires Chapel Church, where she was saved at the age of 15.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hugh, Clarence and Don Arrington; one sister, Edith Davidson; and one niece, Liesa Arrington.

Surviving are her husband of 44 years, Ennis Carmack of the home; sons, Ennis James Carmack and wife, Freda of Rogersville, Larry Dewayne Carmack and wife, Becky of Bulls Gap; daughter, Sherry Delia Morelock and husband, Gilbert of Rogersville; two granddaughters, Rachel Carmack of Bulls Gap and Shonta Cobb of Rogersville; grandson, Samuel Cobb of Rogersville; brothers, Luther Arrington of Rogersville, Doug Arrington of Ducktown, Tenn.; sisters, Lucille Manis and Myrtle Albright, both of Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Colboch-Price Funeral Home, Rogersville. Friends may call at the residence anytime.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jeff Smith officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Charles Clonce Sr., 82, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Charles Clonce Sr., 82, West Walnut Ave., Johnson City, went to be with the Lord Sunday afternoon (March 6, 2005) at J.H. Quillen Medical Center and VA Hospital after an extended illness.

Survivors and arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
