Nancy A. Myers, age 61, of Eastman, Georgia, died Friday, May 31, 2002, in Eastman, after a lengthy illness. An alumnus of GPS, she was a graduate of the University of Chattanooga and held a masters degree from the University of Tennessee School of Social Work. Ms. Myers was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She worked at Travelers Aid and Chattanooga Psychiatric Clinic in Chattanooga before assuming a position with the Wilmington Child Guidance Center in Wilmington, Delaware. Ms. Myers was the daughter of the late Mose C. Alverson.
Survivors are her mother, Margaret C. Alverson; aunts, Gay Ruhlman and Adelene Cotter; close friend, Paul A. Lane Jr., Eastman, Ga.; and several cousins.
Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2, 2002 at Chattanooga Memorial Park with Rev. David Harr officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Humane Society. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
James E. "Buddy" Hall, 38, died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, at his father's residence. He was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area. Buddy managed Rock Creek Sausage Co. and was a great athlete at Northwest Georgia High School in Trenton, Ga., and competed in athletic events in Chattanooga and North Georgia. He was a member of Crawfish Spring Masonic Lodge #300 F&AM and was an avid softball player, playing in both Chattanooga and North Georgia. Buddy also was an avid golfer, marksman and hunter. He shot competition bow in Chattanooga and was a member of the Georgia Cattlemen's Association. Buddy was preceded in death by his mother, Burlene Hall.
Survivors are fiancee, Susan E. Barnett, Chattanooga; father, James W. Hall, and his girlfriend, Lois A. Gladden, both of Lookout Mountain, Ga.; brother, Ted A. Hall, Louisiana; sister, Rebecca J. Moore, Lookout Mountain, Ga.; and niece, Megan A. Hall.

Charles Arthur Holt Jr., age 79, of Athens, TN.; died of Alzheimers on Wednesday, May 29, 2002 in Athens, TN. Mr. Holt was a resident of the Chattanooga area for over 30 years. He served many years as a minister of the Gospel in MS, GA, TN, AL, and TX. He was retired from T.V.A. as a personnel director and was a graduate of U.T.C. of Chattanooga, where he received his Master's and Bachelor's degrees. He was the son of the late Charles A. and Laura Gladys Holt. Charles touched many lives and leaves behind a legacy of love.
He is survived by his wife, Jewel Sanders Holt of Athens, TN., and children, Richard and Diane Holt of Tampa, Fl., Tena and Carrol Deaton of Lufkin, TX., Tony and Julie Holt of Chattanooga, Julie Holt and William Bowers of Athens, TN.; brother, Jack Holt of Tyler, TX.; sister, Frances Holt Farmin of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; cousin, Charlene Shoop of Lufkin, TX.; 11 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren also survive.

William “Bill” C. Davis; age 75, of Chattanooga, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at a local hospital. Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and was of the Methodist faith. He was a graduate of Tyner High School and was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He was retired from the Dupont Corp. with 42 years of service. He played softball for Dupont and Wesley Memorial for many years, and was a member of the Dupont Bowling League and the REA Bowling League for many years. He was an avid fisherman and was the son of the late James W. Davis Sr. and Babe Clark Davis. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, James W. Davis Jr. and Robert I. Davis and Virginia Lee Davis Morgan.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Smith Davis; daughters and son-in-laws, Tressa and Donald Bain and Karen and Ron Newman; brothers, Charles E. and Jack C. Davis; sisters, Mabel Davis Ryon and Mary Kate Davis Singleton, grandchildren, Stacey Jackson, Adrian Martin, Kris Bain, and Chasta Newman Burke, all of Chattanooga; 5 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services will be held on Sunday at 3 PM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Ted Painter officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or the Cancer Foundation in Mr. Davis’s honor. James A. "Jim" Jernigan, 66, of Chattanooga died Tuesday, May 28, 2002, in a local hospital. He worked for Partners for Economic Progress and the Private Industry Council. He served on the board of the Southeast Local Development Corp. A member of the Chattanooga Jaycees, he is credited with starting a "roadblock" fund-raiser for a woman who had to travel to Nashville for kidney dialysis treatment. His dedication to that effort ultimately planted the seed for the formation of the Kidney Foundation of Greater Chattanooga.
He was an active communicant of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served on the Vestry. He also was a member of the Saturday Lunch Club at Wally's Restaurant. Born in Chattahoochee, Fla., Jim made Chattanooga his home many years ago and attended the University of Chattanooga. Family members who preceded him in death were his parents, Emory Mercer Jernigan and Mattie Ferrell Jernigan; and sister, Naomi Jernigan Crowell.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite "Maggie"; daughter and son in-law, Mardi and Ron Boone; brothers, Emory Joseph Jernigan of Virginia and Thomas Gerald Jernigan of Homosassa, Fla.; and sister, Mattie Lee Pittman of Marianna, Fla.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, June 4, at noon at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 305 W. Seventh St. downtown, with the Rev. H. Hunter Huckabay Jr. officiating. Committal of ashes will immediately follow in the memorial garden at the church. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 11 a.m. prior to the service. Mary Louise Chapman Brown, 90, Tullahoma, Tenn., died Thursday, December 5, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a native of Chattanooga and had lived in Tullahoma since 1952. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Tullahoma First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, William Looker Brown. Survivors include her son, Edward Chapman Brown, Chattanooga; two grandchildren, Edward Chapman Brown Jr., Wheaton, Ill., and Lisa Brown Hayes, Nashville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Cooper Hayes and William Brown Hayes, both of\ Nashville, Tenn. Brenda Sue Mulkey, 61,of East Brainerd died Sunday, December 1, 2002 as a result of an accident, along with her husband, David. Roy Lee Sizemore, Jr. 72, Chickamauga, died Wednesday, December 4, 2002, at his home. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force after 23 years of service and from T.V.A. after several years of service. Mr. Sizemore was a member of the Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Sizemore. Elvin Vandergriff, 89, Rossville, formerly of Signal Mountain, died Sunday, February 9, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a retired coal miner and a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in World War II. Mr. Vandergriff was preceded in death by a son, Herman Vandergriff and a brother Jack Henry. Survivors are son, James Vandergriff, Rossville; daughters, Evelyn Hood and Vicky Young, both of Rossville, Louise Coppinger, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren. Vernold S. Barker, 89, of Chattanooga died June 2, 2003 in a local health care center. A longtime resident of Chattanooga, he was a master watchmaker and was former owner of Brainerd Hills Jewelers and also Kirby’s Drive-in- Cleaners. A veteran of the U. S. Navy, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Barker. Survivors are his wife, Flora Barker; daughter, Julie Barker both of Chattanooga; brothers, James Barker, McDonald, Tenn., and Arnold Barker, Harrison; sister, Winnie Parker Babus, Chattanooga. Hubert Eason, 91, of Ringgold, died Sunday, June 1, 2003 in a local hospital. Mr. Eason served his country during World War II as a U. S. Marine. Injured during the retaking of Saipan, he was awarded the Silver Star for bravery above and beyond. Mr. Eason worked at Peerless Woolen Mills before and after the war and was a member of their baseball team. When Peerless closed, he went into the landscaping business and continued this work until he retired. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert Augustus Eason and Naomi Jane Martin Eason. Survivors include his wife of 64 ½ years, Mary Sue Spears Eason; one son, John David Eason, Pikeville, Tenn.; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth White, Hixson, Tenn., two granddaughters, Lisa S. Bales, Sara K.
